American Flat Track: Bryan Smith Appointed Series Director

AMA Pro Racing Names Bryan Smith as the Series Director of Progressive American Flat Track

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 7, 2023) – AMA Pro Racing is pleased to announce the appointment of Bryan Smith as the Series Director of Progressive American Flat Track. Smith will transition immediately from his current role as the Director of Industry Relations to the expanded role of AFT Series Director.

“Over the last year, Bryan has consistently demonstrated the leadership capabilities that are necessary to take on even greater responsibilities with the series,” said Gene Crouch, CEO of AMA Pro Racing. “Bryan’s ability to leverage the knowledge he’s gained over the course of his motorcycle racing career as both a factory rider and championship-winning privateer will also be critically important as we form future strategies for the sport.”

Smith first joined AMA Pro Racing in 2022 following a decades-long career as one of the sport’s leading competitors. His accolades include winning the Grand National Championship as a Kawasaki-mounted privateer in 2016 before becoming a Factory rider, racing on the Indian Motorcycle and Harley-Davidson squads in subsequent seasons. His understanding of the sport as a competitor, tactician, historian, mechanically minded rider, and now series’ staffer make him uniquely well suited to tackle his new role as Series Director.

“When I joined the Progressive AFT management team a year ago, I said my goals were to give back to the sport and see it grow,” said Smith. “That’s even more true today. I’m encouraged by what we’ve accomplished already, and I’m excited to embrace this new opportunity to create an even greater impact. I feel certain we’re on the right path to take the sport to the next level.”

In his new role, Smith will be responsible for managing all competition aspects of Progressive AFT, including season calendar and event planning, event operations, safety and track prep and series rules development. Smith will also continue to manage rider & team relationships and new rider evaluation.

“We are very excited to move Bryan into this new role,” said Kevin Crowther, Chief Competition Officer of AMA Pro Racing. “Bryan has a wealth of knowledge from all levels of competition, and the experience he gained last year working with the paddock and the Progressive AFT staff has given him the tools that he needs to make a positive impact on the sport.”

Daytona 200: HSBK Racing Ducati New York Fielding Fores & Herrin

Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati New York To Return To Daytona With a Two-Rider Line-Up

Xavi Forés and reigning MotoAmerica Supersport Champion, Josh Herrin, head an all-star line-up for the 2023 Daytona 200

Sunnyvale, Calif., March 7, 2022 — The Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati New York team will bring the heat to Daytona International Speedway’s high banks in Daytona Beach, Florida, with both Josh Herrin and Xavi Forés set to compete on Ducati Panigale V2 machinery.

Herrin’s 2023 Daytona 200 will be one in which he hopes to add to his 2010 race victory. Should he do so, he would join a select group of established stars to have taken a victory in the great race on two different brands and capacities.

For journeyman Forés, the Daytona 200 will signal yet another new race in his arsenal ahead of his MotoAmerica Supersport Championship debut at Road Atlanta on April 21-23. The Spaniard spent 2022 competing in select rounds of the WorldSBK Championship for Barni Ducati, alongside a full season of the FIM Enel MotoE World Championship for Pramac Racing, and the Endurance World Championship (EWC) for Team ERC Endurance Ducati. Xavi will be aboard his Warhorse HSBK V2, displaying the World Endurance Team ERC livery.  He will also have his team ERC crew members who will be assisting Xavi’s fight for the 200 win.

Xavi Forés  (Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati New York – Ducati #12)

“It’s going to be my first time at Daytona and I’m really excited,” Forés said. “I really hope to do well because I was racing in the Endurance World Championship the past few years so I’m used to long races with pitstops. My endurance team will come to Daytona to help, which will be a bonus for everyone on the HSBK team,” said Forés. “I’ve been riding the Ducati Panigale V2 in Spain this last month and I feel really strong on this bike. I’ve been able to do some fast lap times but I know racing in America will be a new challenge. I will return to Spain after Daytona as my partner and I are expecting a new baby soon, and then all three of us will move to America for the season, so this year will be very exciting.”

Josh Herrin (Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati New York – Ducati #2)

“I’m super pumped about returning to Daytona,” Herrin said.  “It’s going to be a really exciting race. “The 200 is one of my favorite events. I feel we’ve always done well there, but it’s a big effort and not just a short 20-lap race. There are a lot of pieces to the puzzle to win there—lots of drafting and pit stops, and it’s such a hard place on the bike with forces you don’t get anywhere else,” Herrin said. “I’m excited to get a second chance on the V2 before I ride in MotoAmerica Superbike, and having Xavi Forés in the team will be really cool. After seeing how the V2 performed last year, I know we’ll be in the mix. I’ve been putting in a lot of work on the bicycle over the past three months and have dropped 15 pounds from where I was last year, so I’m feeling great, I know the bike will be fast, and I can’t wait to get going.”

The 81st running of the Daytona 200 is scheduled for March 9-11, 2023.

MotoAmerica: Travis Wyman Doing Double Duty In Stock 1000

Travis Wyman Racing BMW returns to MotoAmerica Stock 1000 grid for 2023

Two-time Stock 1000 runner-up to compete in two MotoAmerica classes this season

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Travis Wyman will be pulling double duty again in 2023, as the MotoAmerica veteran has revived his Travis Wyman Racing BMW team for another shot at clinching his first MotoAmerica Stock 1000 crown. The two-time MotoAmerica Stock 1000 runner-up will race a BMW in Stock 1000 for the sixth-consecutive season while also competing as a factory rider for Harley-Davidson in the King Of The Baggers class.

The Austin, Texas-based team plans to contest all five Stock 1000 rounds – which take place at Road Atlanta, Barber Motorsports Park, Road America, Brainerd International Raceway and the Circuit of The Americas – aboard a BMW M 1000 RR. Wyman also will continue his partnership with Alex Torres of Fast Line Motorcycle Performance, who serves as Wyman’s chief mechanic.

Wyman proved last year that he can successfully compete full-time in multiple MotoAmerica classes. He finished runner-up in King Of The Baggers, third in Stock 1000 and 12th in Superbike.

Wyman also is no stranger to success in Stock 1000 competition. After finishing third in MotoAmerica’s Superstock 600 Class in 2015 and 2016, Wyman found immediate success in Stock 1000 during the class’ inaugural season. He won the first two Stock 1000 races in 2018 and finished second in the points standings in 2018 and 2021. He’s also finished third in the class standings in 2020 and 2022 and has claimed five victories and 14 additional podium finishes in Stock 1000 competition.

“I’m really looking forward to my sixth year racing a BMW,” Wyman said. “I am grateful for BMW’s renewed support of my racing team, and I can’t thank Alex Torres enough for his increased support for 2023. Alex has allowed me to base my team’s operations out of his Austin, Texas shop, which – along with the condensed 10-race, five-round schedule – has made my return to Stock 1000 racing financially and logistically viable. I’m also thankful for the sponsors who have come back on board with me for 2023.”

Travis Wyman Racing’s marketing partners for the 2023 season include BMW, Harv’s Harley-Davidson, Fast Line Motorcycle Performance, Motul, Bilmola, Alpinestars, Alpha Racing, Frank Madden Painting, SBS, Zero Gravity, GB Racing, Stompgrip, ODI, Full Spectrum, Medage, IRV Seaver BMW, Vortex, Precision Hydration, Suter, Ohlins, Evol Technology, Capit and Lieto Factory.

Business owners and brand managers who wish to share in Travis Wyman Racing’s success in 2023 can contact Wyman about sponsorship opportunities at [email protected].

American Flat Track: Halbert Racing Martin Trucking Yamaha At Daytona

Sammy Halbert Set to Race Daytona Short Track with Martin Trucking

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 6, 2023) – Sammy Halbert will race a Martin Trucking Yamaha MT-07 for the Daytona Short Track I & II season opener and other select rounds of the 2023 Progressive American Flat Track championship, including the Sturgis and Castle Rock TTs.

The union pairs Martin Trucking owner CD Martin, a genuine flat track enthusiast and former racer, with the highly decorated Halbert, who boasts an overall AMA Pro Flat Track Championship, a Grand National Singles Championship, and an X Games gold medal among his many racing accomplishments.

Sam McDonald is building the racebikes out of his shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma. McDonald came up as a dirt tracker himself before embarking upon a highly successful road racing career, where he claimed the 1982 AMA 250 Grand Prix title before taking runner-up honors in the 1984 AMA Superbike Championship.

Sammy’s little brother, Andy, will also be at the track to help the team. Together, they’ll look to rekindle the magic they had working together in 2011 when they dominated the Daytona Short Track doubleheader, winning both Main Events and Dash-for-Cash races.

“I was so excited to see the Daytona Short Track back on the schedule this year,” said Halbert. “I always feel right at home on this track. I knew that I wanted to be on a Yamaha in this chassis this year. After riding the Harley and Indian the last four years, getting on this bike feels like a minibike – it’s so much smaller and I can actually touch the ground. I like the rules package for this bike and being able to run a heavy wheel again.”

“I’m thrilled to partner with Sammy Halbert and Sam McDonald,” said CD Martin. “We’re ready to shake things up and have fun doing it.”

Halbert’s racing efforts are supported by the following partners: Castrol, WPS, Fly Racing, Fredericktown Yamaha, Cardo, Kibblewhite, 6D Helmets, NJK, Penske, @TheHannaRay, Shimano, Pro Plates, Mika, Regina Chain, Oakley, CTI, MS, Miles Edward Ledvinka, Lightshoe, Fenn Chiropractic, Dick Tibbits, Motion Pro, Access Media Lab, Hathaway Racing, and TDFJ.

MotoGP: Mooney VR46 Team Officially Presented In Milan

MOONEY VR46 RACING TEAM: THE TENTH SEASON

Tenth year on track for the Team from Tavullia, the second in the Top class, with Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi ready on the starting grid – the next March 26th in Portugal – on the Ducati Desmosedici GP.

Milan (Italy), March 6th 2023 – Zero hour has arrived: the Mooney VR46 Racing Team presents its tenth season in the Championship, the second in MotoGP with Ducati and alongside Mooney, the Italian proximity fintech active in the payment, banking and mobility field, after a of growth that has seen the Team from Tavullia among the protagonists in the lower classes, from 2014, up to the Top class. A first season to pick up the rhythms and a winning recipe: two young riders, Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi, among the most talented in the Italian nursery, an enthusiastic working group and the ability to involve fans from all over the world, as told in the short film published on the social media channels of the Team.

231 points achieved in its debut season in MotoGP, a podium, a pole position, the title of Rookie of the Year, many placements in the Top10 and a solid and growing finish to aim high in 2023. A close-knit team, at work under the watchful eyes of its Team Owner, Valentino Rossi, led once again by Alessio Salucci, Team Director and Pablo Nieto, Team Manager. A technical package of the highest level, which bears the Made in Italy signature of Ducati, the World Champion motorcycle in 2022. Luca Marini, in his third year in MotoGP, is ready to achieve ambitious goals after an impressive preseason together with Marco Bezzecchi who does not hide and is aiming for the best result right from the first race in Portugal on March 26th.

All valid premises, together with the new sprint race and weekend formula, for a truly stunning 2023 that also find expression in the new graphic layout created and designed by the VR46 graphics department. A look of continuity with the past and then the total black for special occasions. The Team’s fluorescent yellow mixes perfectly with Mooney’s ocher yellow for an aesthetically captivating balance with a rock soul. The Mooney VR46 Racing Team is ready on the starting grid to bring values such as excellence, innovation, talent and Italian spirit to the tracks all over the world. The collaboration between Mooney and VR46 Racing Team has already given birth to huge activations dedicated to a consumer and business audience, with the aim of offering an increasingly large costumers – in an omnichannel logic – advanced banking, payment and mobility services.

Informal atmosphere which also characterises this morning’s appointment in the racing and elegant setting of the CUPRA Garage in Milan, Corso Como 1. Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi, together with Alessio Salucci and Pablo Nieto, greeted partners and journalists before leaving for the last test of the MotoGP preseason in Portimao. Off track opportunity to meet all those who work and support this project, first of all, Mooney, present in the person of its Chief Executive Officer, Emilio Petrone together with the General Manager Salvatore Borgese.

LUCA MARINI – 10

“I am very satisfied with the off season, the bike is really fast and competitive and I also like the new graphics, all black. I’d say we’re close to the perfection. In Malaysia, the race pace was good, the flying lap simulation was fantastic and we are satisfied. We can fight for the Top5 every weekend, we just have to try to make the most of our potential in the first GPs. With our “spec” we are further ahead on the setting than perhaps the factory team riders who have to develop the new bikes. We have prepared at 100% this Championship even if, with the sprint race on Saturday and then the race on Sunday, we don’t know what to expect. Strategy and qualifying will be crucial: over such a short distance, many riders will be still able to fight with the soft tire”.

MARCO BEZZECCHI – 72

“I liked last season’s bike a lot, but with the all-black version we’ve put one gear more! I’m happy with the testing sessions, I feel good on the new bike and I immediately felt the difference. The connection with the gas is the clearest thing, compared to the previous bike, and then also the aerodynamic package. It will be tough with two races in the same weekend, at least at the beginning, even just understanding how to manage the body. I want to win my first race, that’s the goal. We start with a technical package that is already set up, competitive and fast. We are ready, perhaps more than the official riders, at the beginning I mean. Then they will definitely arrive, we have to take the most of it now”.

VALENTINO ROSSI, TEAM OWNER

“I expect a great 2023 from the Mooney VR46 Racing Team. Last year we made our debut in MotoGP after so many years in Moto3 and Moto2 and it was a fantastic season. We were fast, even though the Team was a new one. The guys did a great job, fighting for the podium and the front positions on several occasions. This continues to be our goal also for 2023. We have two very fast and more experienced riders, I hope they can make another step forward to get their first victory and conquer as many podiums as possible. Luca is in his third season in MotoGP and I expect a lot from him. He has made great steps forward in 2022, he has grown a lot and has come close to the podium several times: he deserved it. In the testing sessions he was very fast and he is competitive. Marco can do well too, in his rookie year in MotoGP, which is difficult for everyone, he was very good. He hit the podium in Assen and did many races with the fastest guys till the end. He has to continue like this and can improve to be even faster in his second year in the top class”.

ALESSIO SALUCCI, TEAM DIRECTOR

“We are leaving behind a demanding year, but one that has given us great satisfaction and we are ready to face another season, the tenth for the Team in the Championship, the second in the MotoGP. It is a source of great pride for all of us because we have seen Luca and Marco grow over the years and today they bring our colors up, together with those of Mooney, in the Top class. The level is very high, the new racing formula it will be challenging for everyone, but I’m sure the Team will leave nothing to chance, as will do our partners, first of all Mooney and Ducati, who continue to support us to the maximum of their possibilities for achieving important goals”.

PABLO NIETO, TEAM MANAGER

“It will be perhaps the most spectacular and hard-fought MotoGP season ever: fast riders, bikes of the highest technological level and the sprint race. It will be crucial to have a close-knit Team behind you and capable of teaming up to better face all the unknowns. We have only one year of experience, but we look forward to 2023 confident that we have a solid and competitive technical package, thanks to the support of Ducati, two riders, Luca and Marco, who impressed in the season finale together with a working group, which I am very proud of”.

EMILIO PETRONE, CEO DI MOONEY

“We are excited to be also in 2023 alongside the fantastic Team founded by Valentino Rossi to reach great sporting and business goals together. This year MooneyGo also joins the partnership, our 360-degree mobility app, opening the way to even more ambitious future projects. The Mooney VR46 Racing Team is fast, innovative, full of talent and has great ambitions”.

SALVATORE BORGESE, GENERAL MANAGER DI MOONEY

“The VR46 card is the entrance door to a world made of exclusive advantages and personalized services that cannot be missing in the portfolios of any motorcycling fans and of all those who wish to use a technologically advanced payment tool. A unique product that combines versatility, comfort and safety and exclusive advantages, participation in exclusive events or competitions, travel assistance, help in the event of an accident, purchasing protection, as well as the Special Edition Cap branded VR46 given as a gift with the activation of the card”.

“From the beginning of our existence, we felt learning to ride a bike should be an instrumental foundation that all kids deserve,” said Lisa Weyer, Executive Director of All Kids Bike. “It is our hope that by teaching kids how to ride a bike in Kindergarten PE class, we are leaving a legacy for the next generation of riders on two wheels. We’re excited to partner with Progressive American Flat Track and make an impact far beyond race weekend.”

All 10 MotoAmerica Stock 1000 races will be live streamed on MotoAmerica’s proprietary streaming service, MotoAmerica Live+. To learn more about MotoAmerica Live+, visit http://motoamericaliveplus.com.
