2023 AMA Racing, Organizer and Volunteer Awards Announced

AMA recognizes Athletes, Organizers and Volunteers of the Year

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — After another successful year of racing and recreational riding pursuits, the American Motorcyclist Association congratulates the winners of its 2023 AMA Racing, Organizer and Volunteer Awards.

Awarded to the standout individuals and organizations that helped cultivate another thriving year of AMA-sanctioned events, the 2023 awards serve as a recognition of those who went above and beyond in the goal to help promote and preserve the motorcycling lifestyle.

“We are grateful to everyone who helped make 2023 another outstanding year of AMA-sanctioned racing and riding,” AMA Director of Racing Mike Pelletier said. “Congratulations to all of the winners, who worked tirelessly throughout 2023 to further the AMA’s reach across the nation.”

AMA members participated in the selection process of certain racing categories — including the Athlete of the Year awards — while AMA staff selected the recipients of the organizational and volunteer awards.

Shifting gears to the organizational awards, Lake Sugar Tree Motorsports Park (Motocross Organizer of the Year), National Enduro Promotions Group (Off-Road Racing Organizer of the Year), Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (Track Racing Organizer of the Year) and Braircliff Motocross LLC (ATV Organizer of the Year) were all recognized for their prowess in operating AMA-sanctioned races.

Manchester Motorcycle Club Inc. was named the Recreational Road Riding Organizer of the Year and Durty Dabbers Motorcycle Club claimed the Recreational Off-Road Organizer of the Year honor.

Middle Atlantic Motocross Association Inc. earned AMA Club of the Year honors, while Vital MX secured the AMA Media Award.

The AMA also recognized Rory S. Reiley, John Bauman and Charity Gochenour as the AMA Volunteers of the Year.

Repsol Honda Team reveal brand-new livery for 2024 campaign

Celebrating 30 years of collaboration and partnership between Honda HRC and Repsol, Joan Mir and Luca Marini unveiled their striking 2024 Repsol Honda Team RC213V machines at the Warner Music Station in Madrid on Tuesday, February 13.

Arriving fresh from the first test of the year in Sepang, Joan Mir and Luca Marini joined friends, family, journalists and more than 600 guests to present the 2024 Honda RC213V for the 2024 MotoGP World Championship. A striking new livery complements the young and talented pairing of Joan Mir and Luca Marini as the Repsol Honda Team head into a new year of MotoGP action, determined to continue the strong progress made already.

2024 marks the 30th season of collaboration between Repsol and Honda HRC, the longest standing partnership of its kind in two-wheeled motorsports. The relationship has produced 15 World Championships, six different World Champions, 183 premier class victories, 455 podiums and nine Triple Crowns. Alongside the new livery, 2024 also sees the partnership enter a new era as renewable fuels are introduced into the MotoGP World Championship. The continued collaboration between Honda HRC and Repsol has ensured that the maximum level of performance has been maintained.

Joan Mir enters his second season with the Repsol Honda Team, now working alongside Santi Hernandez. A year of learning in 2023 has set the 2020 MotoGP World Champion up for significant improvements in 2024, his ambition for stronger results boosted by an impressive level of work and development from HRC’s engineers. To date, the 26-year-old has 13 premier class podiums and one victory, alongside his dominant campaign to win the 2017 Moto3 World Championship. Mir’s performance in Sepang demonstrated the improvements that both he and the Honda RC213V have made during the off-season.

On the other side of the garage will be Luca Marini, the 26-year-old becoming the 20th full-time rider to wear the colours of the Repsol Honda Team. Joining the premier class in 2021 after earning six wins and 15 podiums in the Moto2 World Championship, Marini has demonstrated clear progress in his development as a Grand Prix rider. In his three previous seasons in MotoGP, Marini has taken two Grand Prix podiums, two pole positions and four Sprint podiums. 2024 will be the first season of a two-year contract for the Italian.

The 2024 Honda RC213V not only features a new livery, but also a number of upgrades across the machine. From revised aerodynamics to improvements to the engine and chassis. An off-season of intense research and development has birthed a motorcycle which is the first step in closing the gap and battling for positions at the front. Both Tetsuhiro Kuwata, HRC General Manager, and Alberto Puig, Repsol Honda Team Manager, highlighted the importance that this season will play for the team and the championship.

The Repsol Honda Team will now head to the Lusail International Circuit for the final MotoGP pre-season test on February 19 to 20 before the season begins in earnest at the same track just two weeks later on March 08 to 10. It will be the first stop on a 21-race calendar which will span the reach of the globe before concluding in Valencia on November 17.

“It’s amazing to be part of a team with such history and success in MotoGP, I am as excited to start this season with the Repsol Honda Team as I was the last one. These team launches are always really nice, especially to see what everyone thinks of the new design. I think the colours for this year are really different and very bold, certainly something unique from the team. We have had a positive first taste of the bike and five productive days in Sepang, now we have to look ahead to the Qatar Test and the race. Last year taught me a lot and I am looking to put everything into practice for this year to help the Repsol Honda Team return to where I know they can be. Let’s enjoy this moment and quickly prepare for the season that is to come.”

“For me it is an honour to join the Repsol Honda Team, when I was a young child I already had some leathers in their colours for racing minibikes. Now to be here, at the launch, in the leathers and with the bike – it is a dream come true, something from destiny. This bike looks really beautiful, the colours are something very new and I am proud to represent them. We are just at the start of our journey together, but I already feel a part of the team and well supported by the engineers. I’ve ridden just six days on the bike so we are looking to make the most of the last test and begin the year in the best way possible.”

Tetsuhiro Kuwata

HRC General Manager

“2024 is a special year as we celebrate 30 years collaborating with Repsol and enter a new era with renewable fuels. Inside Honda HRC we have been working very hard in order to deliver a package to both Joan Mir and Luca Marini that they can be competitive on. Both riders are young, hungry and are already providing clear feedback for further improvements. It will be another season of developments, of working together with our riders, partners, sponsors, engineers and team members as we strive to improve.”

Marcos Fraga

Director of Communications and Corporate Marketing at Repsol

“This is not just any season. It marks the entry of renewable fuels into the MotoGP World Championship. In this way, top competition continues to be the best test bed to improve our fuels, which then reach our service stations and our customers. In MotoGP, we have the challenge of creating, together with our partner Honda, the best renewable engine-fuel combination with the aim of achieving sporting excellence and also the highest quality in our products.”

The race will be fun, but more importantly, we’re going there to win.”

Xavi Fores – Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing Team Manager

“I’m very excited to race the Daytona 200 for a second time and this time with the iconic Attack Yamaha Team. I’ve seen the Attack team fighting for victory with the Yamaha R6 several times in Daytona, and I can’t wait to get on the bike. It is going to be challenging with a new bike and team, but I know how well the team works, and I’m going to put my World Endurance experience into it as well to bring a strong result back home. Yamaha R3 bLU cRU Series Elevated To FIM World Cup Status

Yamaha R3 bLU cRU Series Upgraded to FIM World Cup Status

The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and Yamaha Motor Europe are pleased to announce a change of status and a new name for the FIM Superbike World Championship’s feeder class, the FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup. The series, previously known as the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU European Championship, has been upgraded to World Cup status thanks to its increasing success and large numbers of international participants.

After many years of support from FIM Europe, the FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup will now come under the global FIM umbrella. The R3 bLU cRU initiative was launched in 2021 by Yamaha Racing and is designed to provide a structured and direct path into world championship racing for riders aged between 14 and 20 years old.

Managed by Japan Italy Racing (JiR) and supported by the FIM and Dorna WSBK Organization (DWO), the series forms an integral part of DWO’s SBK Roadway program. This partnership between all parties has proven to be an effective and successful one, with a large percentage of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship grid now made up of former bLU cRU riders.

The FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup will be contested across 12 races at six European rounds of the 2024 FIM Superbike World Championship, and the overall champion will earn a supported ride in the 2025 FIM Supersport 300 World Championship provided by Yamaha Motor Europe.

The series gives young riders the perfect platform to benefit from professional coaching, technical support, and mentoring designed to encourage, develop, and nurture the next generation of superbike riders.

The change of status also reflects the fact that the entry list has become increasingly international in recent years, with almost half the riders registered so far in 2024 hailing from outside Europe.

The season gets underway with the opening round on the 22nd-24th of March at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and updates can be found across the FIM, WorldSBK and Yamaha Racing websites.

Gianluca Montiron: Japan Italy Racing
Work has begun on the new season, and it has given everybody a real boost to have the new name and status change. It reflects the importance of this championship as it continues to provide a platform for riders as young as 14. These future champions gain a wealth of experience during the six world championship events, and thanks to our continued collaboration with the FIM, Yamaha Motor Europe and DWO we are seeing the popularity of the championship increase.

Paolo Pavesio: Marketing & Motorsport Director, Yamaha Motor Europe
The upgrade to World Cup status for 2024 represents for the R3 bLU cRU Cup more than a symbolic milestone. In 2021, the inaugural season of the R3 series, the grid was predominantly European. However, over the past two seasons we’ve seen more overseas riders joining the R3 series, with the result that the grid is now split evenly between European riders and those from other continents, primarily Asia, South America, and Australaia. With a fixed participation fee and a turnkey package, the series is both cost effective and the ideal stepping-stone onto the world stage for young riders. It has also proved an effective feeder class for the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship, in which nine former bLU cRU riders will race this season. The 2024 season will also be the first in which the FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup races will be streamed live, increasing both the reach and visibility of the series worldwide, and promises to be an exciting one on numerous levels for our bLU cRU youngsters, starting with the opening round in Barcelona. With all this in mind, I’d like to conclude by thanking Jorge Viegas and the FIM, firstly for their support since we started this project but also for recognising the increasingly global reach of the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU series with the upgrade to World Cup status.”

Gregorio Lavilla: Executive Director, Dorna WSBK Organization
We at DWO are thrilled to witness the evolution of the FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup. The transition to World Cup status is a testament to the series’ remarkable growth and the international appeal it has garnered. The collaboration between DWO, Japan Italy Racing, FIM, and Yamaha Motor Europe has proven to be a winning formula, providing a crucial platform for young riders to make their mark on the global stage. We look forward to witnessing the continued success of the FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup and the promising talents it nurtures.

Jorge Viegas: President, Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme
The FIM remains committed to promoting inclusivity within motorcycling and the FIM Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup is the perfect example of providing opportunities for young riders to join our sport. Over the last three seasons, the popularity of this championship has grown year on year, and due to its ongoing success and the increase in international competitors it has shown that it now deserves to be elevated to FIM World Cup status. I am sure that 2024 will be another great edition of this series.”

Mallory Dobbs Signs With Sekhmet International Motorcycle Racing Team

NEW TEAM JOINS INAUGURAL FIM WOMEN’S MOTORCYCLING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

SEKHMET INTERNATIONAL MOTORCYCLE RACING TEAM JOINS CHAMPIONSHIP WITH MALLORY DOBBS & LISSY WHITMORE

Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland, 12 February 2024

You can only have your first time once and having the opportunity to make history has proved irresistible for Australian born Maddi Patterson; one of very few female team owners in the world of motorcycle racing.

Maddi Patterson, SEKHMET RACING Team Owner: “When I first heard that this was going to happen I knew it was where I needed to be. At the official announcement by DORNA, the officiating organisation, no one was surprised when I said ‘F*ck it, I’ll do it!’

Forming a team and signing riders for this has been a real time crunch and, having achieved this in eight months, I appreciate all those who have helped along the way (you know who you are) – if it was easy everybody would do it. I am so proud to announce our riders; Mallory Dobbs #14 (USA) and Lissy Whitmore #34 (UK) who will be riding Yamaha YZF-R7 motorcycles at circuits including Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”, Donington Park Circuit and Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto from May to October 2024 alongside the World Superbike Championship which is televised Globally. What a trip!”

The FIM Women’s Motorcycling World Championship is the first dedicated motorcycle world championship for female circuit racers. This initiative by DORNA has been welcomed by the motorsport community worldwide and responds to the growth in female participation in motorcycling, motorcycle racing and an increase in female motorcycle racing fans attending events in recent years.

Maddi added: “Sekhmet, an Egyptian Deity, was born from fire – a symbol of strength and resilience. And therein lies the reason for the team naming; I endured and recovered from sixty percent burns to my body only three years ago. Sekhmet is known as the protector of friends and the leader in battle – something I embrace in my own life. I am incredibly honoured, excited and aware that my role is to lead my team and more than that, support, inspire and create the chance to do something different. To be the difference. And when the visor goes down, nothing else matters. This is racing.”

The team will attend the media launch and testing in May immediately ahead of the first race and is accepting sponsorship proposals from brands that share the team’s values and ambitions. This is a game changer and this team isn’t just ticking the equality box – these riders are world class athletes at the top of their game and our mission is to bring a fresh dynamic, challenge perceptions, change minds, win respect and acknowledge talent while creating memories, making history and having fun.

Let’s race!

Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing to Field Daytona 200 Effort with Fores

MARIETTA, Ga. – February 13, 2024 – Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing is excited to announce that Xavi Fores will head their campaign for top honors aboard the Yamaha R6 at this year’s 82nd running of the Daytona 200. The 2023 MotoAmerica Supersport Champion will fill in for Cameron Petersen, who is focusing his efforts on returning to 100% [fitness] for the 2024 MotoAmerica Superbike season.

Fores brings with him a wealth of experience from both World and National Superbike Championships, as well as the Endurance World Championship. Last year, the Spaniard enjoyed a successful debut season in the MotoAmerica Supersport Championship, earning nine wins en route to securing the crown at the penultimate round at the Circuit of The Americas.

Since MotoAmerica took stewardship of the legendary endurance race in 2022, the team has entered their potent Yamaha R6 and enjoyed podium success as a one-off effort during the pre-season before shifting back to the main objective of defending their MotoAmerica Superbike Championship.

Tom Halverson – Yamaha Racing Assistant Department Manager for YMUS

“Yamaha is very proud of its record as the winningest manufacturer at the iconic Daytona 200. Since Don Emde’s first win for Yamaha in 1972, we’ve won 27 times, and every one of them has been special to our brand. We are very excited to have Xavi join our team for this effort. He is a very talented and fierce competitor with a winning mindset. Attack Performance has a proven track record at the 200 where every team member makes a difference in the run to the checkered flag.”

Richard Stanboli – Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing Team Manager

“We welcome Xavi to our pre-season Daytona 200 race team. The race is always fun and a nice warmup for the Superbike season. We are fortunate to have Xavi step in for Cam and race our Yamaha R6. He showed us all last year that he is very capable, easily winning the Supersport Championship. We are excited to see what he can do with the Yamaha R6. The race will be fun, but more importantly, we’re going there to win.”

Xavi Fores – Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha Racing Team Manager

“I’m very excited to race the Daytona 200 for a second time and this time with the iconic Attack Yamaha Team. I’m very happy to join them and really highly motivated to achieve a strong result together. I want to thank Yamaha U.S. for the opportunity to ride for them and Richard for trusting me with the ride.”

Let’s race!
