Canadian Superbike: Dumas Fastest In Practice At Calabogie

CSBK - PRO 6 GP - Pro Superbike - Pro Sport Bike - Practice 1

More, from a press release issued by CSBK:

Dumas tops FP2, is fastest overall heading into qualifying at Calabogie

Calabogie, ON – Alex Dumas announced his arrival at the Canadian Superbike Championship finale in stellar fashion on Friday, leading the second practice session and setting the overall fastest time of the morning to pace the Pro Superbike field at Calabogie Motorsports Park.

The championship leader settled for second-fastest in FP1 as title rival Ben Young topped the charts with a time of 2:02.484, but Dumas obliterated those times in FP2, nearly setting a new lap record with a time of 2:00.640.

The Liqui Moly MPG/FAST School Suzuki teenager can capture his first ever YUASA Battery Pole Position award this afternoon, an honour Young has snatched from him both times already this season.

Conditions in the qualifying session will be important to watch, as track temperatures are expected to be much warmer than in the morning practices. This could give Dumas a realistic shot at breaking Jodi Christie’s lap record from 2015, though it could also play into the hands of one of his rivals.

The times were already noticeably quicker in the second session across the board, with the top-five in FP2 representing the top-five overall heading into qualifying. Young managed to keep himself within striking distance of Dumas, finishing 0.615 seconds shy of the top spot aboard his Van Dolder’s Home Team BMW.

After struggling somewhat in FP1, reigning champion Jordan Szoke posted a much better time in FP2, wrapping up the morning third-fastest for the Canada General Warranty Kawasaki team but still a distant 1.557 seconds off Dumas.

Szoke dealt with a number of mechanical issues in the first round at Calabogie but got back on track in a big way in round two at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, winning two of the three races to carry much-needed momentum into the doubleheader finale.

The biggest surprise of FP2 was veteran Michael Leon, who made up over three seconds on his FP1 time to post a 2:02.474 in the second session. The Royal Distributing BMW rider had his second round derailed by an unfortunate crash in race one but mostly impressed last time out in Calabogie, as he hopes to regain that form to end the year.

Completing the top five times overall was double-duty Turcotte Performance Kawasaki rider Sebastian Tremblay, who will bring his ZX-10R superbike to Calabogie for the first time while also balancing a hopeful championship in the Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike class aboard a ZX-6R.

Tremblay made up a full second in FP2 as he comes to grips with the bigger machine around this circuit, though he remains still 2.113 seconds away from his first career pole position this afternoon.

Notably missing from the overall timesheets is Trevor Daley, who looked poised for a strong start after ending FP1 in third but was unable to carry that momentum into FP2 aboard his OneSpeed Suzuki.

A welcome sight in the overall top-eight was rookie Samuel Guerin, who has had a disastrous 2021 campaign after generating plenty of interest prior to the season for the EFC Group BMW team. Three DNF’s in four races have ruined the Quebec City native’s season, but his pace remains competitive as he looks to end his season on a high note.

Qualifying for the Pro Superbike feature class is scheduled to get underway at roughly 1:45 pm ET, with Dumas looking to rob Young of a third-consecutive pole position prior to their season-ending doubleheader battle tomorrow.

The full schedule of events can be found on the series’ official website at www.csbk.ca.

MotoE: Enel Continuing As Title Sponsor Through 2024

Enel to partner with the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup for another three seasons

Enel continues as sponsor of the Cup and Sustainable Power Partner of MotoGP™, while Enel X is Official Smart Charging Partner of the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup until 2024

Friday, 17 September 2021

Enel and MotoE™ have renewed their synergy for another three seasons, consolidating a successful partnership which began with the inception of the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup in 2019. Dorna Sports is delighted to confirm the Enel Group will continue in its role as title sponsor of the Cup, as well as Sustainable Power Partner of the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship.

Enel X, the Enel Group’s global business line, offering services that accelerate innovation, will be the Official Smart Charging Partner of the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup until 2024 by providing smart, tailored electric bike charging solutions. The agreement also envisages that the partnership may extend through the 2025-2026 seasons.

Francesco Venturini, Enel X CEO: “We are very pleased to announce the extension of the partnership with the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup, a further step that underlines how important it is for Enel X to continue to develop innovative technologies for eMotorsports. The challenge is to combine the adrenaline of the track with the sustainability concept behind the event and right from the beginning of the collaboration with MotoE we have understood that the championship represents the perfect environment in which to implement cutting-edge charging solutions that can be brought into everyday mobility, concretely contributing to the electrification of transport. Continuing along this path in the coming years is, therefore, the natural consequence of the good things we have done so far.”

Marc Saurina, Senior Director of Global Commercial Partnerships at Dorna Sports: “We’re delighted to continue our partnership with Enel as both title sponsor for MotoE and Sustainable Power Partner of MotoGP. Since MotoE began in 2019, we’ve gone from strength to strength creating a competitive, exciting and important series that is true to its values and those of close, competitive racing – making a perfect match with Dorna’s ESG strategy. We’re looking forward to continuing our partnership to take MotoE to even greater heights, and working together on sustainability as Enel continues to play a vital role in the whole paddock as our Sustainable Power Partner.”

In the Misano Adriatico leg, as in all the other rounds of the Cup, Enel X is providing the JuiceRoll Race Edition, the new charging infrastructure specifically designed and developed for MotoE, which has been used right from the first race of the current season, on May 2nd, 2021 in Jerez de la Frontera (Spain). The JuiceRoll Race Edition is an innovative charger with internal storage and two interconnected units, namely a semi-mobile unit (SMU) and a mobile unit (MU), which can charge an electric motorcycle in about 40 minutes. The SMU supplies energy to recharge the electric motorcycles with the support of a system of solar panels, working directly in the area of the ePaddock; the MU on the other hand allows the motorcycles to be recharged while in the pit lane and on the starting grid. Specifically, the MU allows for a final seven-minute charge on the starting grid, allowing the bikes to cover more distance than in previous seasons. During the charging session in the ePaddock, the JuiceRoll Race Edition can supply bikes with up to 1 MW spread over 20 chargers, requiring only 100 kW from solar panels and the grid under normal operating conditions, thanks to the integrated storage unit.

MotoE: Miguel Pons Fastest In FP2 At Misano

MotoE FP2

More, from a press release issued by Dorna:

Game on: Granado and Torres top, Zaccone close on Day 1

The top three in the standings are the top three overall, with rain ahead of FP2 bringing the intrigue on Friday

Friday, 17 September 2021

A mixed day at Misano saw Eric Granado (One Energy Racing) top the timesheets after the Brazilian was fastest out the blocks at the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup season finale, setting a 1:43.883 to head the pile by the end of play. Fellow contender and reigning Cup winner Jordi Torres (HP Pons 40) was second, around a tenth in arrears, with 2021 points leader Alessandro Zaccone completing the top three. As rain came down ahead of FP2, no one could improve so it’s the top three overall in the top three, although shuffled, on the Friday timesheets. Game on!

FP1

Two riders broke the 1:43 barrier in FP1, and the two riders on the chase behind points leader Zaccone: Granado did a 1:43.883 and Torres a 1.43.973. The Spaniard was also first out. Zaccone was third though, the Italian showing more good speed at the final round of the season.

Miquel Pons (LCR E-Team) was back on song in fourth, with Dominique Aegerter (Dynavolt Intact GP), fourth in the standings, close behind to complete the top five.

There was one crash in the session as Andre Pires (Avintia Esponsorama Racing) went down at Turn 14, rider ok.

FP2

After rain before the session, the track was wet and conditions didn’t improve enough to allow anyone to improve on the timesheets either. Pons was fastest with a 1:53.003, with Torres 0.386 back and Fermin Aldeguer (Openbank Aspar Team) another half second in arrears. Lukas Tulovic (Tech3 E-Racing) was fourth, just over a second off Pons’ stunner at the top, with Granado completing the top five. Zaccone was 8th in the wet and Aegerter 11th. So if it rains in the races or in E-Pole…

There were no incidents in the afternoon.

Granado, Zaccone and Torres head the timesheets from Pons and Aegerter, with Hikari Okubo (Avant Ajo MotoE) in sixth. No gap from P3 to P6 was bigger than a tenth.

‘King of Misano’ Matteo Ferrari (Indonesian E-Racing Gresini MotoE) started well but was pushed down to seventh by the end of FP1, ahead of Aldeguer and Tulovic. The returning Mattia Casadei (Ongetta SIC58 Squadracorse) completed the top ten.

An intriguing Day 1 leaves a good few questions still to be answered in E-Pole and when the lights go out to race. Rain or dry, you don’t want to miss it! MotoE™ head out for E-Pole at the earlier time of 11:45 (GMT +2) at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli to decide the final grids of the season, and then hold onto your hats as Race 1 powers up at 16:20 for the first of two pivotal showdowns on the Riviera di Rimini.

MotoAmerica: Ward Broke Femur Again In Crash At NJMP

Down but not out! Bradley Ward vows to race on after New Jersey setback

Following his crash at NJMP, Bradley Ward wishes to update you all on his current situation.

Bradley Ward: “Round eight of MotoAmerica at New Jersey Motorsports Park was an unlucky weekend for us and such a shame after having a good pace over the last three rounds in my return to racing after last year’s accident. I had a little uncomfortable feeling all weekend coming back to this race and that was always in the back of my head, but I guess that was to be expected. I was feeling more and more comfortable mixing it with the guys out on track and really working hard on my racing program and technique. Unfortunately, I had an accident mid race in Race Two battling with two riders. We came together causing me to lose the front entering turn six as I was possibly a little tighter than I had been previously. I felt like I had the pace and was comfortable lapping as we were for the laps prior with the riders in front. Racing is racing and no one is to blame, it’s just one of those things. I’m currently In Cooper medical Center recovering from a shattered femur and hip as the rod bent from the previous accident-causing further fractures around the area. I would like to take this time to apologize to everyone that have bent over backwards to get me back on track, ADR Motorsports, FLY Racing USA, FLY Street Racing for giving me the opportunity to get back on the Superbike, my loyal sponsors and supporters for standing by my side and most of all my amazing girlfriend Staci and family for going through all of this again, you guys are amazing and I don’t tell you this enough. I’m getting good care and making progress in the hospital. Surgery was a success, and it looks like I will be able to make a strong recovery. Huge thanks to the whole Cooper University Healthcare staff for fixing me up. I’m in a positive place and look forward to making a strong recovery to get back to racing as soon as I am ready! Good luck to my teammates and all the MotoAmerica riders this weekend at the final round of the season, I will be watching! Thanks again, see you guys soon”

YOSHIMURA SERT MOTUL CLAIM POLE AT THE BOL D’OR

The factory Suzuki team dominated the second qualifying session and set a new record on the Paul Ricard circuit. Yoshimura SERT Motul were ahead of YART–Yamaha Official EWC Team and BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team. In Superstock, Team 18 Sapeurs-Pompiers CMS Motostore took the lead.

A record was broken during the second qualifying session, which was held on a dry track this morning. Xavier Simeon posted a new fastest lap, a 1:52.374. The Yoshimura SERT Motul rider wiped out the record set during the test in early September (1:52.484) and smashed the best time posted in qualifying during the 2019 edition (1:53.408).

In the saddle of the factory Suzuki, Sylvain Guintoli also came in under the 1:53 mark, and Gregg Black was not far behind. The riders’ consistency enabled them to take pole position with a 1:52.772 lap and pocket the 5 points awarded to the pole sitter.

The Suzuki – the reigning champion – will take first place on the grid ahead of YART–Yamaha Official EWC Team.

In the saddle of the Austrian Yamaha, Niccolò Canepa, Marvin Fritz and Karel Hanika were also very consistent. All three were practically within the same tenth of a second.

BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team, who are third on the starting grid, did not field Javier Forés, who was injured yesterday. But the Belgian factory team can count on their back-up rider Kenny Foray to shore up Markus Reiterberger and Ilya Mikhalchik.

F.C.C. TSR Honda France will start from 4th ahead of VRD Igol Experiences. The Yamaha-mounted independent team were discreet but efficient, confirming their high level of performance and their ambition to be on the Bol d’Or podium.
VRD Igol Experiences are ahead of two factory teams on the starting grid: Webike SRC Kawasaki France Trickstar and ERC Endurance-Ducati.

A crash involving Sébastien Suchet this morning slowed the progress of Tati Team Beringer Racing (Kawasaki) who are 8th ahead of two Polish teams, Team LRP Poland and Wójcik Racing Team.

Moto Ain are 11th on the grid and will have to take Randy de Puniet’s injury during free practice into account. He is still expected to race however with Robin Mulhauser and Roberto Rolfo.

Superstocks in the Top15

In Superstock, Team 18 Sapeurs-Pompiers CMS Motostore (Yamaha) will start from 12th on the grid but have had to rejig their line-up with Hugo Clère as the main rider. Axel Maurin, was injured during the night test and will be replaced by Johan Nigon. Bastien Mackels was injured in qualifying this morning and will not be racing.

Superstock teams occupy the 12th to 15th place. Behind Team 18 Sapeurs-Pompiers CMS Motostore are BMRT 3D Maxxess Nevers (Kawasaki), National Motos (Honda) and RAC41 ChromeBurner (Honda), in that order.
