PJ Jacobsen’s F150 Endurance Series to Honor Rob Gette PJ grew up with the racing community being a great extended family to him. From the time that he was 4 years old, he knew of the strength and loyalty in that family, and learned a lot by watching his father and his other mentors. In 2010, PJ saw a way to start giving back to the racing family. Rich Hanson, friend, tuner, and fellow cycling enthusiast, was injured in a car accident. PJ realized that the growing popularity of his F150 Endurance series was a great tool which he could use to benefit the family that had already given him so much. And so one race that year was used to help raise money for Rich’s medical expenses. The race was such a success that the next idea was born – to set aside one race each season as a memorial to remember the passing of a fellow racer by celebrating that person’s life, achievements, and memory at a gathering of racers. The first official F150 4Hour Endurance Series Memorial Race was at the end of 2010. This race honored the memories of Alex Lyskawa and Conner LaFrance, two young riders PJ’s own age who lost their lives while participating in the sport they loved so well. The next year was marred by the tragic passing of MotoGP’s Marco Simoncelli, and so the 2011 race was dedicated to him. The 2012 Memorial Race was dedicated to racer, promoter, and teacher Pete Giammalvo. The fledgling tradition continues this year, as the Series is proud to announce that the 2013 honoree will be Rob Gette. Rob was killed on the track at Virginia International Raceway in 2010, days before his baby son turned four. He was known as an all-around great guy and devoted father who dedicated himself to racing both on and off the track. His personal style and enthusiasm for the sport made him a rising star within American Honda, where he was a District Sales Manager. Rob’s family will be there, and his dad may even race. After the race will be a barbecue. This is a great way to end the season, and to celebrate the life of our good friend. This F150 4-Hour Endurance Series Memorial Race is being promoted by PJ’s MotoPromotions, in conjunction with Bob Weiss of WeissRacing.com and Tim Hannen of OVRP. Sponsors of the series include REV’IT!, DesignStars3, SIDI, SHOEI, MotionPro, Saddlemen, and Orient Express. The race will be at OVRP in Cuddebackville, NY on Sunday, October 27. Gates open at 8am, and the race starts at 11am. More information is available at www.PatrickJacobsen.com/MemorialRace.
