BUTTONWILLOW, Calif. — The American Federation of Motorcyclists (AFM) returned to Buttonwillow Raceway Park for Round 2 of its 2026 championship series May 30th and 31st, and racers were greeted with what many described as near perfect conditions throughout the weekend.

Temperatures remained comfortable from morning practice sessions through the final checkered flag, providing ideal conditions for racers, crews, campers, and spectators alike. The favorable weather also created the perfect backdrop for the Saturday afternoon endurance race, where teams battled through extended track time without the extreme heat that often accompanies summer racing in California’s Central Valley.

One of the biggest stories of the weekend was the strong turnout in the American Twins Unlimited class, which featured an impressive contingent of V-twin bagger motorcycles. With a large turnout of Harley-Davidson riders, joined by competitors aboard Buell motorcycles, racers traveled from across the country to compete in one of the weekend’s most entertaining races.

The event also continued AFM’s new race weekend format introduced earlier this season, with most classes racing on both Saturday and Sunday. An additional practice group was added to spread riders out during qualifying and provide competitors more open track time to set their fast laps. The revised schedule has been well received by racers and helps maximize track time throughout the weekend.

Another popular tradition of the AFM schedule is the lunchtime podium ceremony, which gives riders and spectators an opportunity to recognize standout performances during the race weekend. At Round 2, the spotlight belonged to Dave Moss, who turned in one of the weekend’s most impressive performances.

Moss enjoyed a dominant weekend at Buttonwillow, collecting six victories across multiple classes. His performance made him one of the most successful riders of the event and earned him well deserved recognition during the lunchtime podium celebration.

Other standout performers included Brian Wammack, who took victory in the American Twins Unlimited class aboard his Buell, and Sahar Zvik, who had strong Formula Pacific form by winning both the Saturday sprint race and Sunday’s feature race. Stephen Rue also enjoyed a successful weekend, taking victories in Formula 1 Open, Open Superbike, and Formula 40 Middleweight competition.

Round 2 showcased the continued growth and evolution of the AFM, with strong grids, competitive racing, and a race format designed to maximize track time and improve the experience for riders. Combined with ideal weather conditions and a packed paddock atmosphere, the weekend delivered everything competitors hope for when arriving at one of California’s premier racing venues.

The AFM championship now moves forward with momentum as riders prepare for the next round in less than two weeks at Thunderhill Raceway Park in what is shaping up to be an exciting 2026 season.
