Induction Ceremony to Headline AMA Hall of Fame Days on Campus of American Motorcyclist Association Sept. 14-17

Packed schedule of activities will round out multi-day event in Pickerington, Ohio

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association will open the doors of its Pickerington, Ohio, headquarters to the motorcycle community Sept. 14-17 for AMA Hall of Fame Days, a four-day event headlined by the 2023 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

“Whether you are a recreational rider, racer or fan of motorcycling history, we’ll have something for you at AMA Hall of Fame Days this September,” said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. “This event is our opportunity to welcome all AMA members to our campus, invite them to celebrate the Hall of Fame Class of 2023 and experience fun on two wheels.”

Activities will include meetings, a bike night, Hall of Famer meet-and-greet opportunities and more.

“While we already have a packed schedule, we anticipate adding more as the event approaches,” Dingman said. “Our goal is to include something for every AMA member, and we’ll announce more as it’s confirmed.”

AMA Hall of Fame Days will kick off with an AMA-sanctioned adventure ride Thursday, Sept. 14. Participants will follow a full day’s route that leads from AMA headquarters through Southeastern Ohio and back.

On Friday, Sept. 15, the annual AMA member meeting will be held at the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, followed by the 2023 induction ceremony at the neighboring Violet Township Event Center and an evening reception back at the museum.

Saturday, Sept. 16, will begin with the Hall of Fame Supporter Brunch and the public reveal of the Class of 2023 display in the museum. WorldSBK: Pirelli Introducing Soft SC0 Front Tire At Catalunya

A FRONT PIRELLI SC0 MAKES ITS RACE DEBUT

In Barcelona, the WorldSBK riders will have a soft SC0 solution available for the front for the first time in history

The Circuit of Barcelona-Catalunya will host the fourth round of the FIM Superbike World Championship over the weekend and will be the stage for an important debut for Pirelli: for the first time ever, the Italian tyre company has developed a solution in soft compound SC0 for the front wheel that can be used during the race weekend.

Up to now, the DIABLO Superbike had never had a SC0 compound in the range of front tyres but now Pirelli has decided to introduce and develop it during the season, to then make it a standard solution next year. The comparisons, started in Assen, between the standard SCX rear and the B0800 development SCX rear, and, in the WorldSSP class, between the current 120/70 size front and the larger 125/70 already used in WorldSBK will continue in Barcelona.

WorldSBK

Front: in addition to the solutions already used since the beginning of the year, i.e. the medium SC1 and the hard SC2, in the quantity of 8 tyres per rider for each compound, for the first time the riders will also have a front SC0 available, a soft compound solution which should offer a high level of grip at the front- to balance the grip given by the softer solutions at the rear. The Barcelona circuit can be particularly demanding for the front because it is very technical, with wide and fast corners, straights, undulations and very sharp braking zones, such as first braking point after the long straight to the finish line.

Rear: the solutions seen in action at Assen were confirmed, with the standard super soft SCX and the development SCX-A (specification B0800) to continue the direct comparison between the two options. To these two more are added- the soft SC0 and, only for the Superpole and Superpole Race, the extra soft SCQ.

WorldSSP

At the front, the riders will continue to have two SC1 options available in different sizes: the standard one for the WorldSSP class in 120/70 and the one used by WorldSBK in 125/70, to evaluate a possible switch also for this class to the larger size after a first test carried out in Assen. The third and last solution is represented by the standard SC2. For the rear, the riders will be able to choose between the standard SCX and SC0, the latter being more protected in the event of low temperatures and high wear.

An SC0 to complete the new front range

“In Barcelona we will witness what, in its way, can be considered a historic debut in these 20 years of Pirelli in Superbike: for the first time ever, the WorldSBK riders will have a DIABLO Superbike in the soft SC0 compound available at the front. After expanding the range in the past seasons with the introduction of rear solutions in soft compounds, such as the SCX in 2020 and the SCQ in 2022, and having worked on the new front SC1 and SC2, we now decided it was time to complete the range also working on a front in soft SC0 compound with the aim to balance the high level of grip offered by the new soft solutions introduced for the rear wheel. The riders have already had the opportunity to test this new front solution, in specification B1148, in the winter tests and in those held in Barcelona at the end of March but this will be the first time ever that they will have it available in a race weekend. The goal, in line with our philosophy of making the tyres used in the World Superbike available to all motorcyclists, is to develop this SC0 during the season and then make it a standard solution, therefore purchasable on the market, in 2024”.

Harley-Davidson Introduces “Fast Johnnie” Collection

HARLEY-DAVIDSON ENTHUSIAST COLLECTION INTRODUCES FAST JOHNNIE

High-Performance 1960s and ‘70s Muscle Cars Inspire Limited-Edition Trio of Motorcycles

MILWAUKEE (May 2, 2023) – Harley-Davidson celebrates muscle car culture and its racing heritage with the introduction of Fast Johnnie, the 2023 addition to the Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection of limited run bikes featuring factory-direct custom paint and graphic treatments. Executed in Celestial Blue with white racing stripes, this special Enthusiast Collection paint scheme is offered factory-installed for three 2023 Harley-Davidson models: the Low Rider® ST, the Street Glide® ST and the Road Glide® ST motorcycles, with production limited to no more than 2,000 of each model globally.

Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection models celebrate Harley-Davidson riders and are inspired by their stories and legacies. The Fast Johnnie paint scheme taps into iconic design themes featured on high-performance muscle cars and pony cars of the 1960s and 1970s – contrasting “racing” or “rally” striping over a bold base color, and a clever or symbolic character or logo incorporated into the graphics package. Both elements served to create an obvious visual difference between the high-performance version of a car and the standard version of the same model. The Fast Johnnie character applied to the left side of the fuel tank also appears on the Harley-Davidson® Screamin’ Eagle® factory team motorcycles raced in the MotoAmerica King of the Baggers series. It was inspired by the story of a piglet named Johnnie adopted in 1920 by Harley-Davidson racer and member of the infamous “Wrecking Crew,” Ray Weishaar, which became a team mascot. The piglet often perched on a motorcycle fuel tank for a post-race victory lap and is usually cited as the source of the “Hog” moniker that to this day is often applied to anything Harley-Davidson.

“The striping graphic effect is a powerful signal to the generation that came of age during this era, and is still impactful today,” said Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson Vice President of Design and Creative Director. “The Celestial Blue base color selected for Fast Johnnie recalls a popular tone from the muscle car era. For the graphic striping, we created a custom white color formulated to authentically reflect the era, executed in a classic thin-wide-thin pattern on the sides and top of the motorcycle bodywork. The look is a nod to pure Americana.”

On the tank and front fender “Harley-Davidson” script replaces one of the thin stripe elements. Depending on the motorcycle model, the striping is applied to the front and rear fenders, the fuel tank top and sides, the front of the fairing and the side covers and saddlebags. The Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection logo is on the rear fender.

Low Rider® ST Fast Johnnie Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection

Strap down your bedroll and make a run for the border. The Harley-Davidson® Low Rider® ST model is an American V-Twin sport-touring bike for the rider who digs clean-and-lean West Coast style and craves the outrageous performance of the Milwaukee-Eight® 117 V-Twin powertrain. The Low Rider® ST model connects these riders with pure Harley-Davidson attitude. Mechanical features are identical to the 2023 Low Rider® ST model.

Special Styling Features

  • Celestial Blue with custom white detailing
  • Enthusiast Collection logo on rear fender
  • Graphic on both sides of the fuel tank – Fast Johnnie on left, Bar & Shield on right

Street Glide® ST Fast Johnnie Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection

Elevated pro-touring bagger performance and style for the rider who just can’t get enough of either. The Street Glide® ST model pairs the muscular Milwaukee-Eight® 117 powertrain with tough West Coast styling influences and new dark-and-bronze finishes. Undiminished comfort and the iconic batwing fairing appeal to the traditionalist mindset. Meet the new breed of speed and style from Harley-Davidson. Mechanical features are identical to the 2023 Street Glide® ST model.

Road Glide® ST Fast Johnnie Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection

The sleek Road Glide® ST model projects more menace than ever and backs it up with the street-scorching power of the Milwaukee-Eight® 117 powertrain. West Coast styling elements and black-and-bronze finishes set this bike apart from the performance bagger crowd. Legendary comfort and the “sharknose” fixed fairing appeal to a rider who wants to make quick work of the open road. Mechanical features are identical to 2023 Road Glide® ST model.

Road Glide ST and Street Glide ST Special Styling Features

  • Celestial Blue with custom white detailing
  • Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection logo on rear fender
  • Graphic on both sides of the fuel tank – Fast Johnnie on left, Bar & Shield on right

Moto2: Canet Quickest In Testing Tuesday At Jerez

Moto2 Test Times
Moto3 Test Times

More, from a press release issued by Dorna:

Canet & Öncü set the pace in Moto2™ and Moto3™ Jerez Test

Tuesday, 02 May 2023

A day after the MotoGP™ teams and riders were busy running through their testing agendas at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto, it was the turn of some Moto2™ and Moto3™ outfits to do the same. Aron Canet (Pons Wegow Los40) and Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) set the quickest times in their respective classes, with each category enjoying three sessions on Tuesday.

Moto2™

It was a great day for the Pons Wegow Los40 team as they locked out the top two positions, with impressive rookie Sergio Garcia joining Canet at the summit. And it was close between their pair as just 0.018s split the two Spaniards in Andalucia.

Saying it was close inside the top 10 doesn’t really cut the mustard thereafter, either. The top five of Canet, Garcia, Jake Dixon (Autosolar GASGAS Aspar M2), Sunday’s race winner Sam Lowes (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) and Albert Arenas (Red Bull KTM Ajo) were covered by less than a tenth. Sixth place Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) was only 0.102s off, while Ai Ogura (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) – who was unhurt in a crash – and Manuel Gonzalez (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team) were two tenths adrift in P7 and P8.

World Championship leader Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) didn’t take part in the Jerez Test, with 20 of the full-time Moto2™ field lapping on Tuesday.

Moto3™

In the Moto3™ class, Spanish GP polesitter Öncü set the pace by well over half a second on Tuesday. The top five fastest riders completed their best laps in the opening session of the Test, with Jerez podium finisher David Alonso (Gaviota GASGAS Aspar M3) sitting as Öncü’s closest challenger – 0.642s adrift.

Xavier Artigas (CFMOTO Racing PrüstelGP) rounded out the top three and was the only other rider in the 1:45 bracket, as reigning JuniorGP™ and Red Bull MotoGP™ Rookies Cup Champion Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) pipped Diogo Moreira (MT Helmets – MSI) to round out the top five. Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) was the other rider within a second of Öncü’s time in P6. World Championship leader Dani Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3) was in P11 just behind Sunday’s back-to-back winner Ivan Ortola (MTA Angeluss).

All in all, a busy day all in all for the intermediate and lightweight classes! Next up: the 1000th Grand Prix at the world-famous Le Mans.

Following brunch, the museum will hold an open house for all guests that will transition into a bike night with a DJ and food trucks. Representatives from the State Motorcycle Safety Association also will attend as part of their annual meeting in nearby Columbus.

In addition, AMA Congress, which includes AMA Racing and Recreational Riding Commissions, will meet Sept. 14-15 to discuss rules and guidelines for AMA-sanctioned racing and riding activity. Commission members should save the dates and look for official invitations soon.

Finally, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme Mobility Commission will meet at AMA headquarters on Sept. 17. The FIM Mobility Commission deals with the safety of riders on the road, and the quality and safety of products used in motorcycling. It advises FIM management on ways international law increasingly affects motorcycling.

Registration for events open to the public, including the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, will be available soon at AmericanMotorcyclist.com.

Klesel Sweeps Round Three at MSR Houston
