Moto2: SDK Will Miss Silverstone To Continue Recovery

Rory Skinner returns for British Grand Prix whilst Sean Dylan Kelly sits out Silverstone as his recovery continues.

After missing the last three races with a fractured talus bone, Rory makes a welcome return to the team in time for his home round at Silverstone where he made his Moto2 debut in 2022 with the team as a wildcard entry.

Unfortunately, SDK will miss the British Grand Prix as he continues his recovery from forearm surgery.

The American underwent a procedure during the summer break for arm pump issues which plagued him for the first half of the season. However, due to fluid build-up in the area, he will sit out the round at Silverstone as he targets Austria for his return.

Rory Skinner #33

It’s been a long 8/9 weeks since my accident at Mugello and it’s been a pretty boring road to recovery as there wasn’t a lot I could do with the complications of the injury.  For the last two weeks, I’ve been back to training: cycling, in the gym, and riding bikes. It’s been really enjoyable being able to go back to doing all the things that I normally do.

I’m feeling good for Silverstone, I’m really looking forward to the weekend and being back with the team. It should be pretty enjoyable, my first home Grand Prix as a full-time Moto2 rider. Last year was amazing but I’m hoping this year will be even better.

Sean Dylan Kelly #4

This week I came over to Madrid to visit my doctors for a three-week check on my forearm surgery. Unfortunately, there was some liquid build-up in the same area where the scar tissue was last time which means they had to do a small procedure to remove the fluid and do some infiltration to prevent that from coming back and leading to actual scar tissue.

The hope of getting my arm back to 100% is still looking good, it just means that the recovery is pushed back a little bit as I have to keep my arm immobilised for another 7-10 days which means I have to miss out on racing at Silverstone. It’s not the news that I wanted to give but that’s the situation and obviously, I need to think about what’s most important right now and that’s my body.

I’m hoping to be back training right after Silverstone and to be back on my Moto2 bike in Austria. I want to thank everyone, especially my team, my management, and everyone around me for looking out for me and being with me during this tough time, and I hope to see you all in Austria!

MotoAmerica: JD Beach Riding Yamaha Superbike At PittRace

Beach Joins Fresh N Lean Progressive Yamaha Racing at PIRC

JD Beach will fill in for Fresh N Lean Progressive Yamaha Racing’s Cameron Petersen at the MotoAmerica Superbike triple-header at Pittsburgh International Race Complex

MARIETTA, Ga. – August 2, 2023 – Fresh N Lean Progressive Yamaha Racing brings aboard JD Beach to race the MotoAmerica Superbike triple-header at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex on August 18-20. The flat track racer returns to the paddock to fill in for Cameron Petersen, who is focusing on returning to full fitness from a wrist injury that has sidelined him from the remaining rounds of the season.

Over the past five seasons, Beach has been battling for top honors in the American Flat Track Mission SuperTwins Championship with the Estenson Racing team aboard their Yamaha MT-07s. The multi-time road race champion with dirt track roots has enjoyed success with Yamaha in both disciplines and also has a history with Attack Performance. Beach raced for the team during his debut Superbike season in 2011 and also during the 2019 MotoAmerica Superbike season when he raced both MotoAmerica and AFT premier classes, scoring his first SuperTwins and Superbike victory on back-to-back weekends.

In addition to the PIRC round, Beach will head straight from the American Flat Track Sturgis Half-Mile to ride the Fresh N Lean Progressive Yamaha Racing R1 at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) test on August 7-8. Josh Hayes, who rode Petersen’s bike this past weekend at Round 6 of the championship in Brainerd, Minnesota, will also ride the team’s R1 during the morning sessions on the first day of the COTA test. The fill-in rider for the final two rounds will be announced at a later date.

Richard Stanboli – Fresh N Lean Progressive Yamaha Racing Team Manager

“It will be a pleasure to work with JD again. He is always motivated and positive. We have some history together and good communication, so it will be very easy for him to jump right in and get to work. He last rode our R1 in 2021 at BIR as a last-minute fill-in rider. It will be interesting to get his reaction to our 2023 R1 and how it may compare to Josh Hayes’ comments, who will also be at our test next week. It should be good fun and a learning experience for everyone.”

JD Beach – Estenson Racing

“First off, I want to thank the Estenson Racing team for allowing me to do this. I’d also like to thank Yamaha and Attack for thinking of me to fill this role. I know I’ve got some big shoes to fill because Cam has been fast the last year and a half, as well as Hayes last weekend at Brainerd. I know this is going to be tough coming in as a fill-in rider, but I’m up for the challenge. I’m excited to get some seat time on a factory Superbike. I’m not sure that I will get the opportunity again, so I want to give it all I got. I want to do the best I can for the team and help them with the points, but I am also still focused on the final AFT rounds too.”

MotoGP: Oliveira Reports He Is Nearly 100% Recovered From Shoulder Injury

CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team full throttle into the second half of 2023

Fresh from five weeks off, Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez arrive in Silverstone this weekend for the ninth round of 2023, which initiates the second half of an intense season. Following a long recovery period after a challenging start of the season, both CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP riders are eager and fully fit to kick off this next phase with enthusiasm.

Miguel Oliveira had a difficult time coming back from a shoulder injury sustained at the Spanish GP, which was just the fourth round of the season. He fought his way back and worked on improving his condition in subsequent races at Mugello, Sachsenring, and Assen. However, he was relieved to have a well-deserved five-week break, allowing him ample time to fully recover ahead of this weekend’s British GP.

On the other side, Raul Fernandez faces his set of challenges at the beginning of the season fighting with an arm pump issue that eventually led him to getting surgery after the Spanish GP, resulting in his withdrawal at the French round but made a steady comeback during the three back to back rounds ahead of the summer break. The Spanish youngster is motivated to prove his worth now during the second half of the season.

For the remaining 12 rounds of 2023, the format has changed slightly. The British Grand Prix starts with Free Practice one at 10:45 local time (11:45 CET) on Friday, which means the session is not counted for Qualifying, while the 60 minutes Practice session on Friday afternoon at 15:00 local time (16:00 CET) will determine the entries for Qualifying one and two which takes place on Saturday.

This season, the MotoGP paddock will return to the impressive wing building that Formula one is already consistently using, which also changes the start-finish straight at the Silverstone Circuit.

MIGUEL OLIVEIRA

“I think it’s a great time to come back after such a long break, that was really helpful for me to recover my shoulder 100%. I came to a fitness level close to where I was at the start of the season. I obviously feel very confident and happy to get on working and really be competitive again back on my Aprilia RS-GP. It wasn’t the start of the season that we had hoped for, but we take on the second half and aim to bring back good results for all of us.”

RAUL FERNANDEZ

“I just had five weeks to prepare very well. After the surgery in May I think it will be interesting to try to do the second part of the season very well. Anyway, I am ready to go. I’m really happy to start again. I can’t stay at home anymore, because I just want to race. I can’t wait to arrive in Silverstone!”

Razlan Razali, Founder and Team Principal CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team

“That seemed to be a very long five weeks break, while we are not even in the middle of the season yet. We’re just going to the ninth round, which is Silverstone this weekend. We had a long break, but a good one at the same time, especially for our riders, Miguel and Raul. From my communication with them, they have recovered well, they are back to training. Miguel seems to have full strength on his shoulder and Raul probably had a good reset on his peace of mind, so we expect both riders to be 100% fit now. As I said, there are still 12 rounds to go, 24 races. It’s still a long season ahead of us, which is going to be tough, but at the same time, a great opportunity for the CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team to turn around our season. We had some bad luck in terms of riders’ fitness, so we hope we can turn our fortunes around and do well in this second half. We look forward to Silverstone with great anticipation, rejuvenated, very much motivated for the riders and the whole team, we can’t wait to get back to the track this week!”

Wilco Zeelenberg, Team Manager CryptoDATA RNF MotoGP Team

“We are very happy to start again, but also we needed the time off, basically to get the riders fitter than before the break. Raul was having surgery, feeling well but obviously an operation takes away a lot of power from the body to recover. So, for sure, in those five weeks you can get back into shape like before the surgery. Plus, the arm pump is gone, which was also important. For Miguel, it was a similar situation except the operation. He was recovering from a shoulder injury and we all know that this is very critical and specific. You never know how much damage the soft tissue has and it takes time. Therefore, we definitely needed the break to get stronger and more competitive. Although I have to say, they already did well before the break, even if we couldn’t perform the way we wished. I think we missed the timing in Qualifying a bit, which stopped us from progressing further. Now, after this long break, we have many races in a row. But first, let’s see what we can do in Paradise Island!”

AHRMA: Turpin Wins Again In Vintage Cup, At Gingerman

Turpin wins AHRMA Vintage Cup again at Gingerman Raceway

(August 1, 2023, Knoxville, TN)  Shane Turpin’s double victory has added a twist to the 2023 American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) 2023 Vintage Cup.

Sponsored by Hagerty Insurance, Roadracingworld.com, and NYC Norton (nycnorton.com), AHRMA’s 2023 Vintage Cup features the Formula 750 (F750) class which includes 750cc two and four-stroke powered machines built up to 1972.

Turpin, sponsored by Larrabure Framing and Vee Two, was competing in the 13th and 14th rounds of the Vintage Cup held on July 29 and 30, 2023 in conjunction with the Bridgestone Tires AHRMA National Roadracing series at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, MI.

Turpin dominated both rounds aboard a 1972 750cc Ducati Imola winning decisively Saturday and Sunday and adding another potential contender to the overall championship race.

“Shane put in another stellar performance on the Ducati, but it’s clear that Tim Joyce and Colton Roberts have no intention of giving in,” said Carl Anderson, AHRMA’s 2023 Chairman of the Board.  “And, with Chris Spargo rejoining the fray at Blackhawk, we can look forward to another great race in a few days.”

Turpin’s competition included almost a dozen motorcycles from different manufacturers and designs.  His air-cooled, four-stroke, “L” twin was joined on the grid by Joyce on a NYC Norton 1968 Seeley NRE 750, Roberts on a 1976 Yamaha RD400, Tony Read riding his 1973 Triumph Bonneville, Dan May on his 1972 BMW R75/5, and Walt Fulton on a “V” twin-powered Harley-Davidson, among others.

“With Turpin entering the fold at Laguna at a double points weekend and now winning both rounds at Gingerman, the potential for a championship is on the horizon.  This strong push by Turpin in the second half of the season makes it exciting for all the players in this premier class as everyone steps up their game.”  said Kenny Cummings of NYC Norton. “The profile of this featured class is as high as it gets in classic racing and I couldn’t be happier as a sponsor”

On Saturday, Joyce took the holeshot with Turpin hot on his tail.  Turpin took the lead several turns later, increasing it throughout the race to take the checkered flag with Joyce taking second, and Roberts rounding out the podium.

The remaining field finished as follows:  Read took fourth, May, placed fifth, Michael Dixon, riding his Michael Dixon, 1970 Yamaha XS finished sixth, Kevin Dinsmoor, on a 1967 CMR Seeley CB550, took seventh, Matt Esterline, on his 1977 Honda CB, eighth, Fulton nineth and Jeff Hargis finishing tenth on his 1972 Yamaha XS650.

Sunday was a repeat of Saturday as they crossed the checkered flag, but lap times showed that both parties stepped it up.  Joyce again got the hole shot with Turpin on his tail.  Turpin took the lead by turn 7 and again held it to the checkered flag with Joyce in hot pursuit.  Roberts again rounded out the podium in third.

The balance of the field included Hargis in fourth, Reed fifth, Dixon sixth, Fulton seventh, Esterline eighth, and Dave Spanjar riding a 1968 Triumph Bonneville, coming in ninth.

Of special interest was the battle between Dan May, Michael Dixon and Kevin Dinsmoor:  a fantastic 3-way battle between three racers who have joined the Vintage Cup competition. These racers bumped up from other classes, proving the Vintage Cup concept draws riders in and adds to the competition.

The annual Vintage Cup spotlights one of AHRMA’s road racing classes with extra attention on competitors in the selected class during each race event. Enhanced awards for the Vintage Cup competitors are presented separately from other class trophies during the Saturday awards ceremony at each AHRMA National Road Race event. Rounds fifteen and sixteen will be run at Blackhawk Farms in South Beloit, IL, August 5-6, 2023.

Highlights from each Formula 750 race will be reported in RoadracingWorld.com’s online edition. At the conclusion of each season, the perpetual Vintage Cup trophy will be engraved with the national champion winner’s name and presented to the winner at the National Awards Banquet to keep for one year.

Willow Springs International Raceway: Big Willow Track Being Repaved

Willow Springs Schedules Major Repaving Project

by Michael Gougis

The 2.5-mile circuit at Willow Springs International Raceway, informally known as “Big Willow” or “The Fastest Road In The West,” is scheduled for a major repaving project, a spokesperson for the track says.

“We are repaving the first half of Big Willow (2.5 mile course) from Turn One up through the Omega and down to Turn Six,” says Christine Banghart. “The repave will be well before Turn One so that even the faster cars will be on the new pavement before they need to start braking so there is no transition they have to worry about. We are planning to complete the other half this same time next year, if all goes to plan.”

Repaving the first half of the track is scheduled to start on or about August 7 and the track is scheduled to be closed until August 24.

The nine-turn circuit was built in 1953 and hosted its first race on November 23 of that year. It is noteworthy for the fact that it hosted the first FIM 500cc Grand Prix motorcycle race in North America, according to the track’s website, and the State of California declared Willow Springs International Raceway as a California Point of Historical Interest in 1996.

MotoGP: Marquez And Mir Eager To Get Back On Hondas At Silverstone

Repsol Honda Team back to full strength for MotoGP season restart in Silverstone

After five weeks away, the MotoGP World Championship resumes and begins an intense second half of the year at the historic Silverstone Circuit, Joan Mir back alongside Marc Marquez in the Repsol Honda Team.

At 5.9 kilometers long, Silverstone is not only one of the oldest circuits on the MotoGP calendar but also the longest. First used in 1947, the British track has undergone a number of changes before arriving at its current 18-corner layout. A mix of long straights, fast corners and tight and technical sections routinely produces close racing but 2023 sees a new challenge added as the MotoGP paddock returns to using ‘The Wing’ and changes the start – finish line to the Hamilton Straight as opposed to the National Pit Straight from the previous few visits.

The second half of the season is set to be an intense affair as the races come thick and fast, Marc Marquez taking full advantage of the break to prepare himself. Silverstone is what awaits this weekend, a circuit that has seen the #93 take three podiums – including a win in 2014. This year’s British Grand Prix will be about building and establishing growth for the second half of the year and beyond.

It will be a welcome return to action for Joan Mir as he is reunited with the Repsol Honda Team after an injury in Mugello. Now fully recovered, the #36 is fully motivated to continue working and improving with the team. Mir’s best finish at Silverstone is a ninth place in the premier class, achieved in 2021 on his way to third in the World Championship.

The entirety of the Repsol Honda Team is eager to return to the track and resume the hard work they have planned. Sunday’s race will take place at 13:00 Local Time, ahead of the Moto2 race as is usual for the British GP.

Marc Marquez

“We have enjoyed an important Summer Break, a chance to reset and recover after a demanding start to the year. From the physical and mental side, I come back to the track refreshed and ready to work. I am looking forward to seeing everyone in the Repsol Honda Team again and understanding the work that has been done over the break. Silverstone is a circuit where I have had a lot of good battles in the past. The most important is to get back on the bike, get back to working and try to improve on how the first half of the year has been.”

Joan Mir

“Our break was a bit longer than everyone else’s, but I am now fully recovered from the injury I suffered in Mugello. I’ve been back training and riding different kinds of bikes like normal for a few weeks now so I am feeling good physically. The goal for the weekend is to make the most of every session and get back into the mindset of MotoGP and racing after so many weeks away. It will be great to see everyone again and get back on the Honda RC213V.”

MotoAmerica: Even More From Brainerd International Raceway (Updated)

TYLER SCOTT AND VISION WHEEL M4 ECSTAR SUZUKI WIN AT BRAINERD

Suzuki GSX-R750 Earns Dramatic Supersport Victory

BREA, CA – Suzuki Motor USA and Team Hammer reigned supreme on Sunday at Brainerd International Raceway as Supersport phenom Tyler Scott scored his first victory of the 2023 MotoAmerica season in dramatic fashion.

Race Highlights:

  •  Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki
    • Supersport
      • Tyler Scott came out on top of a last-lap thriller to earn his first MotoAmerica win of the season.
      • Teagg Hobbs fought his way back to 16th from last after running off track late in the race.
    • Superbike
      • Brandon Paasch broke into the top five for the first time in his short stint with the team.
      • Richie Escalante collected seventh, ending his run of six straight top fives.

Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Tyler Scott racked up his first victory of the season via a thrilling last-lap Supersport showdown. After settling into a blazing fast pace in second, Scott rallied after a red flag set the stage for a five-lap shootout to clinch the win. Scott leapt into the lead aboard his next-generation Suzuki GSX-R750 on the restart and controlled the race’s decisive stage. The 17-year-old Scott countered his opponent’s last-lap pass attempt and took the checkered flag in first to earn a hard-fought victory.

“We made a few changes and were able to push the pace,” Scott said after winning Team Hammer’s 130th AMA Pro/MotoAmerica race. “We were P1 in this morning’s warm-up session and going into the race I had a good feeling. It was a great race. I felt amazing on the bike for the entirety of the race. I can’t thank the whole Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki team enough for all the hard work they’ve put in. Our last MotoAmerica win was Road America last year, so it’s been a while since we’ve been on the top step of the podium. I’m happy to be here, and we’re going to keep pushing to be better and better.”

The race wasn’t as kind to teammate Teagg Hobbs. Hobbs ran inside the top five during the race’s first stint, but his ultimate finishing position was largely determined by an off-track excursion caused by a collision with another rider following the red flag. The up-and-comer dropped to last place but managed to pick up a handful of positions before taking the checkered flag in 16th position.

Hobbs said, “I ran off the track and was in last and only had a few laps to climb back up the order. Luck wasn’t going our way. We had a strong weekend and were fourth in the warm-up this morning and fifth in the race before the red flag. After the restart, it just didn’t go my way this time.”

Brandon Paasch continued his remarkably rapid acclimatization to Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki and the team’s Suzuki GSX-R1000R in the premier class. Despite his lack of seat time on the bike and riding at less than full fitness after breaking his back in March, Paasch battled up front, running as high as fourth. In the end, he collected a highly promising top-five finish in fifth.

“Today was better than Saturday,” Paasch said. “We’re getting closer with the setup, and we had more grip today. I was also riding better, for sure. I was able to see how the leaders were riding in the early laps, and I could see the little things they did better, like going through the corner a little faster but still getting the bike turned. As my back continues to heal, I’ll get stronger. Things are going well.”

Richie Escalante’s Sunday result only served to underline his continued progress by representing a minor disappointment compared to his recent string of strong results. Escalante had established himself as a regular up front, notching nine top-five finishes on the season aboard his Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki GSX-R1000R – including the last six in succession – before today’s seventh-place result.

“It was a difficult race for us,” Escalante admitted. “The team and I tried to improve the bike even more, this morning, to improve the grip. It felt good this morning and for the first five laps of the race. After that, I did not have a good feeling from the front, so I did my best to collect as many points as I could for the championship. Overall, it was a good weekend for us, and I want to thank the team and my sponsors for everything. I will train hard, and we will concentrate on the next one since there will be three Superbike races again.”

The 2023 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship will continue on August 18-20 at Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, Pennsylvania.

More, from a press release issued by Chris Clark Racing:

Points on BIR racing debut for Chris Clark

Chris Clark (27). Photo courtesy Chris Clark Racing.

It was an eventful MotoAmerica Junior Cup weekend at Brainerd International Raceway for Chris Clark who was riding at the historic circuit for the first time.

Topping first qualifying in wet conditions, enabled him to further familiarise himself with the track layout and after a dry second qualifying session the #27 put his Kawasaki on the fifth row of the gird ahead of the two races.

He was running well on Saturday until a clutch issue put him out of the race. Sunday saw him perform well in morning warm-up before a spirited ride on Sunday afternoon once again saw him battling just outside of the top six until his chain jumped the sprocket. Lucky to stay on two wheels he crossed the line fourteenth at the flag.

The next round of the championship is in Pittsburgh in mid-August.

Chris Clark: “In qualifying one it was raining a ton so not many people went out – only me and five others. I figured I would go out to go and learn the track a bit more as I had never been to Brainerd. I ended up fastest but with a crash which was unfortunate. For qualifying two it went a little bit better for me. It was dry and I ended up in thirteenth place. I dropped two seconds off my dry time, and I thankfully didn’t crash. Qualifying two was important for us because we were testing out a new data logger and a whole new data system which went well. After starting in P13 I was in a battle for seventh but with about three laps left my clutch burnt up which was unfortunate but looking forward to a good race for tomorrow. I would say it was a pretty good second race up until the end. Starting again from thirteenth I got a decent start and after a few laps I was still hanging with the front group, until I lost touch and fell back a little bit. I was trying to get some good lap times down and stay in my current position but eventually the group behind me caught me. They all drafted by me and on the last lap when I was preparing to make my move one of the other riders the chain popped off and nearly took me out of the race. I lost touch with the group and ended up P14 at the flag.”

More, from a press release issued by Levi Badie Racing:

Levi Badie is unstoppable at Brainerd

Levi Badie produced arguably the greatest comeback in MotoAmerica Junior Cup history at Brainerd International Raceway, the Belgian running off track through the dirt before regrouping to claw back a plus four second deficit on the leading group to take his second win of the year.

Eighth on the grid, Levi showed his ability and race craft on Saturday to quickly move into contention at the front of the pack. A yellow flag overtake resulted in a penalty of ‘drop two positions’ but not even that could stop him from securing a superb second place at the flag.

Sunday’s second race was also looking good until a mistake saw Levi off the track and lucky to stay aboard. What looked like an impossible gap back to the leaders was whittled away lap by lap until with two to go Levi was back in contention. Up to third on the penultimate lap he executed his move for the win perfectly, holding on to take flag in first and with it move into P5 in the overall championship standings.

The next round of the series takes place at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex, with Badie looking to be back on the box!

Levi Badie: “We started off on Friday with a good practice. I went to qualifying confident, but it didn’t work out the way I had expected. I was eighth. The race one strategy was to stay calm and come from the back. I passed on the yellow flag which wasn’t intentional, and then I had the sign to give two positions back which I did but race control didn’t see it and when came in the pitlane they didn’t let me do the podium, I was angry and had to go to protest again after Road America! The podium was already done and then I had to pick up the trophy from Hayden Bicknese and he had to pick up the trophy from Max Van so there was a whole big mess but, in the end, everything worked out. So, race two was going well until I missed my third braking marker. I went too wide and went into the dirt in turn twelve and I had to go through of the dirt. There was about a four second gap between me and the leading group and I was like ok just put your head down. In three laps I had closed the gap and there were still two laps left. I was thinking ok like I’m here now so I’m gonna finish this. I passed the two of the guys and was up to second and I knew Rossi (Moor) didn’t know I was strong in the ‘carousel,’ and I could pass him in that corner. He went defensive but I did a little short run, and I was able to hold him off until the finish line to get the victory. I had a lot of fun and I am looking forward to Pittsburgh.”

More, from a press release issued by Altus Motorsports:

MotoAmerica: Cody Wyman joins Altus Motorsports to compete in Stock1000 for the remainder of the season

(Brainerd, MN) Cody Wyman had an impressive inaugural outing on the Altus Motorsports GSX-R1000 at Road America earlier this season. With Brandon Paasch moving up to Superbike with the M4 team, Altus was extremely excited to have Cody take the reins for the remainder of the 2023 MotoAmerica season.

In addition to adding Wyman, the Altus team brought Boyd Bruner on board as crew chief.

Stock1000:

The last time Cody Wyman rode the Alus Motorsports GSX-R1000 he was near the top of the charts straight away. But with the challenges with the conditions atBrainerd, the pace did not come easily. Cody qualified 9th. In the Stock1000 race 1, he finished in 9th. In the Sunday race, he took the checkered flag in 10th.

Cody Wyman: “It was a tough weekend at Brainerd. Between some bike issues and a crash, we didn’t have time to find a good setup. As a result, I was never really able to get comfortable on the bike. ”

Supersport:

It has been a difficult 2023 season for Jaret Nassaney. After a great 2022 season, he just had not found his groove in ‘23. The results from the MotoAmerica event at Brainerd may not show it but, by Sunday, Jaret was his most comfortable on the bike for the first time this year. He qualified 13th and finished 14th in race 1. On Sunday he felt even better on the bike and managed an 11th-place finish.

Jaret Nassaney: “We are finally moving in the right direction! Brainerd was not the results we want — or know I can get — but we are finally getting the bike figured out! Excited to continue the progress in Pittsburgh”

Junior Cup:

Alessandro Di Mario struggled to find a good setup at Brainerd. His pace was good enough to qualify 6th and was able to go with the lead group at the beginning of both Junior Cup races. He finished the weekend with a pair of 6th-place finishes and was lapping faster than the rest of the field but not quite quick enough to dice it up at the front. Di Mario heads to the next round looking for that last piece to the puzzle to allow him to battle for the podium.

Alessandro Di Mario: “We worked really hard to get the bike set up right but sadly didn’t get the results we were hoping for. I would like to thank the team for all their hard work and for making changes to make me feel more comfortable on the bike.”

George Nassaney: “The results may not show it but the Altus team had a good weekend in Minnesota. I am looking forward to Pitt Race and the rest of the season.”

Even though he had a tough weekend, Teagg Hobbs (79) had a lot of positive takeaways for the next race. Photo courtesy Suzuki Motor USA, LLC.
