MotoAmerica: Elias Filling In On KWR Ducati At Laguna Seca

Toni Elias to replace Kyle Wyman at Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca round

TUCSON, Ariz. (July 1) — Kyle Wyman Racing has announced that the team will field 2017 MotoAmerica Superbike Champion and 2010 Moto2 World Champion Toni Elias on its Panera Bread Ducati Panigale V4 R at next weekend’s MotoAmerica GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Speedfest at Monterey as a replacement rider for the injured Kyle Wyman.

Elias will replace injured team owner/racer Kyle Wyman, who will be focusing his efforts on winning the Mission King Of The Baggers Championship on his factory Harley-Davidson Road Glide at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Wyman suffered multiple fractures of the Olecranon bone, a significant structural component of the elbow joint, when he crashed his Panera Bread Ducati in the second of two HONOS Superbike races at Road America on June 13. Wyman underwent surgery on June 17 in Northern California, where Dr. Maury K. Harwood used a plate and seven screws to repair the elbow. Since then, Wyman had been rehabilitating the injury at home in an effort to be as fit as possible for the King Of The Baggers Series finale at Laguna on July 11.

Wyman leads the title chase in the Mission King Of The Baggers Series with a victory and a second-place finish in the two races. Wyman gave Harley-Davidson its first-ever Baggers win on Sunday, June 13 at Road America, just hours before suffering his injury in the second Superbike race.

“I’m very happy to welcome Toni Elias to KWR as a replacement rider for the Laguna Seca round on the KWR Ducati Superbike,” Wyman said. “Toni brings a wealth of experience both in MotoAmerica and abroad, and it is an honor to be in a position to field a rider and world champion of his caliber. Toni is a great guy who we’ve missed this year in the paddock, so I’m really happy that I can welcome him back to MotoAmerica. There were a lot of factors we sifted through to arrive at our decision and it wasn’t one I’ve taken lightly. I want him to have fun and enjoy the bike and the experience, and I’m sure we will learn something along the way while I focus on the third and final round of the King of the Baggers championship.”

Elias has an outstanding record at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca with the Spaniard winning three Superbike races at the 2.23-mile racetrack nestled into a hillside on the Monterey Peninsula. In addition to those three wins, Elias has seven podiums at Laguna – including two second place finishes and a third in last year’s tripleheader, which was the last time Elias raced a motorcycle after sitting out the 2021 season thus far.

“I’m really happy and really excited because Kyle has given me this opportunity to comeback to a racetrack with a good bike,” Elias said. “I’ve been coaching since the last race in Laguna (Seca), but when you coach you are riding at 10, 20 percent of what you can go in a race. It’s been low speed and calm, so I need this energy. I need to take a good bike and keep my 100 percent on the racetrack and that is why I am super grateful to Kyle for thinking about me. It’s not about the result, it’s about having fun and if I can be some help and give some good information to Kyle, it’s perfect. I know he will come back soon so I wish him a fast recovery because this is his bike and his team. It will be very nice to go back to the paddock as a racer and this time I will come with Kristy, with the kids. This is something that makes me really happy. To share the race weekend with my family. I think will be very special and, of course, Laguna is always amazing to race this iconic track and I’m looking forward to seeing me on a Ducati.”

Although this will mark Elias’ MotoAmerica Superbike debut on a Ducati, it won’t be the first race for the Spaniard on the Italian marque as he competed for the Pramac Ducati team in the 2008 MotoGP World Championship, earning two podium finishes.

“I don’t think it will be very different than the MotoGP Ducati,” Elias said. “The blood is the blood and that doesn’t change. I believe problems we solved that year will help me during this weekend and I think it will help the team for the future.”

2022 R 18 and R 18 Classic Options and Accessories

Model year 2022 R 18 and R 18 Classic motorcycles see the addition of the stylish new Option 719 design parts and accessories.

Option 719 Design Package AERO

The Option 719 Design Package AERO includes cylinder head covers, front engine cover and left and right intake snorkel covers in aluminum with a brushed, anodized finish. The cylinder head covers feature finely wrought air vents reminiscent of the “streamliners” of the 1920s and 1930s. The highlight is a badge on the front and side covers: This is made of solid copper which is chrome-plated and partially finished in white. The white paint enclosing the number sequence “719” is reminiscent of historical emblems that were typically lined with enamel during that era.

Option 719 seat.

The Option 719 seat is an exclusive alternative to the standard seat found on the R 18 and R 18 Classic. In addition to the standard seat height, it offers diamond-shaped quilted embossing and an embroidered BMW logo and the 719 emblem on the side.

Option 719 Paint finish Galaxy Dust metallic/ Titanium Silver 2 metallic

Galaxy Dust metallic is a finish that changes in color spectrum from violet to turquoise blue, depending on the light. In addition, the color pigment creates a unique visual effect when exposed to sunlight. This special finish is combined with a Titanium Silver 2 metallic mirror on the fuel tank. The transition between the two-color surfaces consists of a hand-applied smoke effect familiar from the legendary R 90 S. In addition, the mirror surface is surrounded by a classic white double pin stripe.

*Option 719 Wheels AERO and ICON

The two Option 719 wheels – AERO and ICON in matt silver and matt black, respectively, provide a refined and sophisticated look to the R 18 and R 18 Classic. The cast alloy wheels feature a six-spoke design. The milled ribs of the spokes are a real eye-catcher. The milled areas give the aluminum a contrast to the painted surfaces – hence the name Contrast Cut.

MotoAmerica: The Final Releases From Ridge Motorsports Park

Gloddy wraps up The Ridge with two second place finishes

As this season has shown us so far, the MotoAmerica Sportbike Track Gear Junior Cup is stacked with talent and it can be anyone’s race!

With temperatures at “The Ridge” soaring above 100 degrees all weekend, the heat was brutal, not only for the riders but for the teams and fans as well. Staying hydrated and cool was an uphill battle for everyone.

In race one, Landers Racing’s Ben Gloddy had a good start and was immediately on the tail of the leader. As the race progressed, it was obvious Gloddy was formulating a plan to get past the leader. With four laps to go, Gloddy was finally able to make a clean pass into turn one and take the lead. With less than three laps to go as his team and fans watched on, it appeared Gloddy may have had a mechanical and lost the lead and fell back into third.

Due to a penalty issued to another rider, Gloddy was ultimately credited with a second place finish in race one.

Gloddy had this to say: “Race one at The Ridge was a lot of fun and extremely hot! I knew going into the race that I was on a race winning bike and I really like technical tracks. Unfortunately, with three laps to go, I was suddenly unable to move my left ankle and it hurt a lot. I looked down a couple times to see what was going on, but it wasn’t anything with the bike. I did my best to push through and hang onto at least third place, which I did and I was even able to gain a little bit of time from what I had lost when I fell back a bit. I was pretty bummed about how the race ended. I know my Landers Racing bike was capable of winning, but I did give it my all. I saw medical after the race and everything with my ankle and leg seemed to ok, other than my calf was hard, but everything was where it was supposed to be, so the only thing we can come up with was that with the heat, I just had a horrible cramp that just wouldn’t let up.”

In race two, Gloddy was able to get another decent start and pull away from the pack with the leader, but wasn’t ever able to capture the lead. With the track conditions seemingly deteriorating with the extreme heat, Gloddy was able to settle into second place without any incidents.

Gloddy stated: “Race two was a pretty lonely race, I was not able to catch the leader and I had a thirteen second lead on the pack that was battling for third place. My Landers Racing Team and sponsors worked so hard in the crazy heat all weekend and I appreciate them all so much, couldn’t do this without them. Thank you to my team; Stoney, Tarl, Will, Jamie, Lees Cycle Service, Ohlins USA, KFG Motorsports, CJR Performance and Evol Technology, The Big S, Freedom Cycle, American Supercamp, Penguin Racing, REB Graphics/Innovative Motorsports, Atlantic Cruising Yachts, Arai Helmets, Dunlop, Scott Stump, Roche Realty Group, Sportbike Track Gear, Fast by Ferracci, Barnett Clutches and Cables, Beringer Brakes, SBS, Vortex, EK Chains, Tyrant Designs CNC and all of my team and personal sponsors for all of the support, as well as my parents, family, friends, and fans!”

Heading into Round 5 at Laguna Seca, Gloddy has only a two point deficit off the championship leader.

Team owner, Stoney Landers, had this to say: “Ben did a great job all weekend, he soldiered through a crazy situation with his ankle seizing up in Race 1 to end up being credited with 2nd place. In race 2, we made a small change to the bike. Ben showed a lot of patience as he kept the pressure on Tyler, at times pulling him back a bit, but ended up with a solid P2 in Race 2. The points are tight and we look forward to Laguna where we will be ready to do it all again!”

Double DNF at The Ridge but Ethan Cook shows front running Twins Cup pace

Ethan Cook may have left The Ridge Motorsports Park in Washington State with a double DNF but the Wrench Motorsport rider once again showed his riding talents in both thirteen lap encounters.

A new venue for the youngster in his debut season of MotoAmerica competition, Cook quickly learned the 2.47 mile undulating circuit, qualifying ninth, before running inside the top six on Saturday. He was well inside the top ten on Sunday too but unfortunately suffered a second spill in as many days.

Crashes aside, Cook now heads to the iconic Laguna Seca circuit in California, eager to tackle the ‘corkscrew, and add to his impressive points tally so far this season.

Ethan Cook: “I qualified well and was really confident for the races. Riding on Thursday made a big difference and really helped me to be closer to the front when it counted. I made a terrible start in Race one and got swamped. I was able to recover and was running inside the top six when I went down. I was understandably frustrated and annoyed but I knew that we had another bit of the cherry on Sunday. Race two was going pretty good until I crashed again. I made a good start and was running inside the top eight and enjoying the battle. It’s certainly more fun racing in a group than on your own. I was able to post my best lap of the weekend but then sadly I lost the front. It’s a bummer but we are making improvements and the team have given me a great bike. I’m sorry to them for going down again but that’s racing and we move to Laguna ready to fight again.”

More, from a press release issued by HONOS HVMC Racing:

ALEXANDER DOES THE DOUBLE DESPITE RECORD HEAT AT THE RIDGE

Shelton, Washington – This past weekend marked the fourth round of the 2021 MotoAmerica championship and it proved to be the hottest yet. With record  breaking temperatures in the 110+ degree range HONOS HVMC Racing still racked up four more podiums to their seasons tally.

MotoAmerica kicked off the weekend with an official test Thursday due to a newly paved track surface. This allowed the HONOS HVMC team an opportunity to work on set up for both riders that would pay dividends.

Corey Alexander began Stock 1000cc race one from 7th on the grid due to a small mechanical issue in qualifying. Lap one saw the #23 Graves Spec Kawasaki ZX-10RR begin working it’s way through the field making a series of bold passes. With three laps to spare Corey made his way to the lead to secure his second victory of the year by just over 1sec.

Race two saw Corey’s closest championship competitor suffer a mechanical failure in the opening lap. Maintaining a fast pace he was able to gap the field with the exception of one rider whom made a late race charge. Alexander was able to fend off any pass attempts earning victory #2 for the weekend yielding him  the championship points lead by eight points.

Aboard his same Stock 1000cc race bike Corey also scored his best HONOS Superbike finish of the season thus far with a 6th place during race one. He backed it up with a 9th during race two moving him into second place in the Superbike Cup championship.

“The Ridge was one of my toughest race tracks last season and so I was not super confident coming into the weekend though I knew we had made a lot of progress with the 2021 Graves Spec ZX-10RR. Testing Thursday allowed us the freedom to try some new things and find a set up that really worked well over race distance. All in all I don’t think the weekend could’ve gone any better and now I’m really eager to get to some of my favorite tracks remaining on the calendar. Thanks to my crew for working so hard in the blistering temperatures.”

Corey’s personal sponsors include: Corey’s personal sponsors include Arai Helmets, Alpinestars, Sals Pizza & Pasta, Ikoniqa, Four3 Performance Lab, Gemini, and Prestige Services Group.

Richie Escalante maintained form with incredible speed throughout the weekend exchanging lap records with his championship competitor as he battled his Graves Spec Kawasaki ZX-6R to second place finishes in both Supersport races of the weekend.

Saturday’s race saw Richie struggle with grip in the heat, lacking the confidence needed to make an attempt at the lead despite early passing efforts. He would go on to secure a solid second place finish 16 seconds ahead of third place.

After an early battle at the start of Supersport race 2 Richie trailed the leader just over 1.5sec. With three to go Escalante made a surprise late race attempt for the win coming up just short as he and his Graves-Spec Kawasaki ZX-6R finished 0.107 behind his championship rival.

Richie added.. “It was another good weekend. We finished with two podiums and good points for the championship but we have work ahead of us. We have learned a lot and I am already excited to be in Laguna, which is a track that adapts to our bike.” Richies personal sponsors include Fresh & Lean, HJC Helmets, Vircos Leathers, Alpinestars, and Hidalgo.

The HONOS HVMC Racing team heads to Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca for round 5 of the MotoAmerica Championship July 9-11th. You can purchase tickets to the event via MotoAmerica.com or in person at the race track.

MRA: Burke Returns To Win Race Of The Rockies GTO

MRA Round 3 sees the return of Burke in GTO and victory for Dear in GTU

Byers, CO – The Motorcycle Roadracing Association held round
3 of the 2021 championship series at High Plains Raceway (West Course) over
the weekend of June 26-27.   The MRA was able to get a full schedule of
racing done over Saturday and Sunday, but the rain prohibited the running of
SuperStreet on Saturday afternoon.

Ryan Burke made a return to HPR after missing the first two MRA rounds and
put himself on the Race of the Rockies pole with a qualifying time of
1:24.681.  Mike Applegate took the middle row position with a 1:25.163 and
RoR points leader Ray Thornton filled out the front row with a 1:25.263.
The RoR GTU grid was set with Jared Dear taking the qualifying lead with a
1:27.877 followed by Brian Dobrowolski at a 1:28.319 and Scott Morrison at
1:28.551.

Applegate got a fantastic start and lead Burke and Thornton with Dave
Lambert, Phil Hergenrader and Nyles Gourlie in tow.  On lap 2, Burke got
around Applegate to take the lead and went about setting the race pace.
Lambert, Hergenrader, and Gourlie were not to be shaken off easily this
time, however.  While chasing the front three, Lambert set the fastest time
of the weekend with a 1:23.876.  Unfortunately, Lambert had to retire on lap
7 with some mechanical issues.

Meanwhile, the front three of Burke, Applegate and Thornton were able to gap
the field but not each other.  For the remainder of the race, these three
were inseparable until traffic became an issue on lap 15.  Both Applegate
and Thornton lost a little touch with Burke, but Applegate ticked off his
best lap of the race to return to Burke’s tail section.  Catching Burke is
one thing, passing him is another and so at the finish it was Burke,
Applegate, and Thornton.

In Race of the Rockies GTU, Jared Dear took the lead and was never
challenged.  While Dear worked his way through the open class bikes, he ran
low 1:28’s to high 1:27’s consistently through the finish of the race.
Dennis Stowers and Cameron Lee got fantastic starts and chased Dear for a
handful of laps until Stowers was able to get past Lee and start after Dear
for the lead.  Lee wasn’t able to hold the pace as much this weekend likely
due to a huge crash he suffered on Saturday.  In the meantime, Morrison was
working his way around the open bikes and snuck up behind Stowers on lap 13.
It was clear that Morrison was on a mission and was able to get around
Stowers just before the white flag to claim the second podium spot.  So it
was Dear, Morrison, and Stowers on the Race of the Rockies GTU podium.

Coming up on July 17-18, the MRA goes back to High Plains Raceway for Round
4 on the full course configuration.  This round will include the annual MRA
4-hour endurance on Saturday.   Endurance classes will be for Solo (Titanium
Butt), Pony Express, and True Endurance with trophies and prize money
awarded Saturday night after the races.   There will not be the SuperStreet
event this weekend, but SuperStreeters are invited to come watch the 4-hour
endurance.

World Superbike: Redding Says He Has Only One Goal At Donington

Scott Redding, Michael Rinaldi and the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Team ready for the Prosecco DOC UK round at Donington Park

After a two-week break, the WorldSBK paddock moves to England, on the historic Donington Park circuit, for the Prosecco DOC UK, fourth round of the 2021 Superbike World Championship 2021 season.

It will be a very special “Home GP” for Scott Redding, who returns to the circuit that in 2008 saw him achieving his first success in 125cc and becoming the youngest rider ever – 15 years and 170 days – to climb the top step of the podium in a World Championship race (until 2018 when Oncu, 54 days younger, got success in Moto3). Donington Park has also given Redding other great satisfactions, such as the one-two in 2019 that launched him definitively towards winning the British Superbike title. The English rider is back from a not-exciting weekend in Misano and will take to the track determined to reduce the disadvantage (45 points) from the top of the World standings.

Michael Ruben Rinaldi comes from the extraordinary exploit of Misano where he conquered two victories (Race-1 and SuperPole Race) and a second-place (Race-2). The Italian rider’s goal is to prove himself at the highest level even on a track that in the past has been less favorable.

Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati #45)

“We’re going back to racing in England after a year’s absence and for me, it’s a very pleasant feeling, also because of the great memories I have of the 2019 season in which I won the BSB title. We come from a not easy weekend like the one in Misano and in Donington my goal is to come back to win. It will be my home GP and I’m very happy that I will find so many fans to support me.”

Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati #21)

“Donington is a circuit where I have not been particularly comfortable in the past. But now the situation is very different. Certainly, we will need to find the speed to be competitive. We will work hard both on Thursday and in Friday’s free practice to get to Race-1 in the best conditions. Of course, it’s not like racing in Misano but I’m confident that we can have a positive weekend”.

World Superbike: Haslam Heading Home To Donington

Leon Haslam prepares for Donington home round, also a favourite of Alvaro Bautista

Team HRC riders Leon Haslam and Alvaro Bautista are set to race at Donington Park (UK) this weekend, one of their favourite venues and one that also has a special place in the hearts of the WorldSBK fans.

Last time out, the team worked hard at the Misano World Circuit, completing the third championship round with a best result of sixth for Alvaro Bautista in race 1. Leon Haslam’s weekend was hindered by a few small issues that he is confident he can iron out in time for his home round.

There was no UK SBK event last year owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, but both Bautista and Haslam reached the podium during the 2019 event at Donington Park. The British event is often characterised by mixed or wet weather, conditions in which both the riders are comfortable, Leon having in fact scored one of his 2019 podium-finishes in the rain (Superpole Race).

The Donington Park circuit, located in the county of Leicestershire in England, measures 4.023 km in length and is one of the historic WorldSBK tracks, having hosted the championship’s very first race in fact, back in 1988. It is the oldest British track still in operation today.

2019 RESULTS:

Race 1 – 1. Rea (Kawasaki); 2. Sykes (BMW); 3. Haslam (Kawasaki).

Superpole race – 1. Rea (Kawasaki); Razgatlioglu (Kawasaki); 3. Haslam (Kawasaki).

Race 2 – 1. Rea (Kawasaki); 2. Razgatlioglu (Kawasaki); 3. Bautista (Ducati)

Weekend schedule (CET -1):

Friday

10.30 – 11.15 – SBK Free Practice 1

15.00 – 15.45 – SBK Free Practice 2

Saturday

9.00 – 9.30 – SBK Free Practice 3

11.10 – 11.25 – Superpole

14.00 – SBK Race 1

Sunday

9.00 – 9-15 – SBK Warm-up

11.00 – Superpole race

14.00 – SBK Race 2

Alvaro Bautista  19

“Donington is a very nice track, one of my favourites when we went there with the 125cc and 250cc championships in fact. When I returned two years ago with the Superbike I found it more challenging due to the type of bike, but still very enjoyable. I especially like the mixed section of the track. I am also very happy to be back knowing that there will be fans in the grandstands because there is so much love and support for the sport and for Superbike here in the UK. As far as the set-up is concerned, we don’t have any reference points for this track, so we’ll start from a basic set-up and try to improve from there. In testing at Navarra we tried some electronic things that will probably help us in this race and let’s hope the weather is good and we can work well all weekend, never a given in England. As a team, we are really keen to take steps forward and move closer to the front, so we look forward to Donington with optimism and a determination to do well.”

Leon Haslam  91

“We didn’t race at Donington last year so it’s especially nice to be heading there again now. It’s my home circuit and so I’m really looking forward to it of course, particularly as we’ll have the support of some local fans. We completed a test after the Misano race weekend and they never stop working back in Japan, so we hope we can hit the ground running at Donington and fight for the kind of results we know we can achieve.”

There will not be the SuperStreet
event this weekend, but SuperStreeters are invited to come watch the 4-hour
endurance.

The Motorcycle Roadracing Association is dedicated to promoting safe and
competitive motorcycle road racing events for enthusiasts in Colorado and
the surrounding area. For more information go to http://www.mra-racing.org/.
