R.I.P.: Linda Hopkins, Mother Of Racer John Hopkins
Linda Christine May Hopkins, the mother of racer John Hopkins, died Friday, August 20th following a battle with cancer. She was 71 years old.

Linda Hopkins was a widow struggling to support her 15-year-old son John’s racing when she made a fateful phone call asking for advice and help. That call led to John Hopkins being signed by Team Hammer, Inc. in 1999 and launched on a career trajectory that led to an Aprilia Cup title in 1999 and two AMA Pro Championships (750cc Supersport in 2000 and Formula Xtreme in 2001) immediately followed by contracts with 500cc Grand Prix and MotoGP teams. Following stints racing in British Superbike and a brief return in AMA Superbike, Hopkins is now Managing Director of American Racing, which runs a Moto2 World Championship team. He also recently published a tell-all autobiography, “Leathered.”

Born May 10, 1950, Linda Hopkins died peacefully in the comfort of her home in Ramona, in San Diego County, California. She was preceded in death by her parents Audrey and Alfred, her husband Roy, and her daughter Marie.
She is survived by:
Children Sharon and son-in-law Frank; Susanne and daughter-in-law Inger; John and daughter-in-law Ashleigh; and son-in-law Laurence.
Grand Children: Desiree and grandson-in-law Mario; James, Domonique and grandson-in-law Kevin; Frankie, Leif, Michael, Michaela, Everleigh, and Ariel.
Great-Grand Children: Lauralei, Adaline, and Maverick.
Services are pending.

More, from a press release issued by American Flat Track:
Beach Reigns, Wiles Streaks at 74th Peoria TT
Dan Bromley marks first victory in AFT Production Twins.

PEORIA, Ill. (August 21, 2021) – JD Beach (No. 95 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT) added a highlight achievement to his lengthy list of racing accomplishments, winning the 74th Law Tigers Peoria TT presented by Country Saloon at PMC Race Park in Peoria, Illinois, on Saturday afternoon.
Beach came into the weekend with the reputation as one of the very best TT riders in the Progressive American Flat Track paddock. That reputation was well-earned; he boasted three victories in the most recent four Mission SuperTwins presented by S&S Cycle TT Main Events, with a third-place finish in the 2019 Peoria TT standing the only blemish on that record. The ultra-versatile Beach got his revenge today, brushing off the race-long pressure applied by the ‘19 winner, reigning Grand National Champion Briar Bauman (No. 1 Indian Motorcycle/Progressive Insurance FTR750), to earn one of the most coveted checkered flags in the sport.
Beach made quick work of holeshot winner Jared Mees (No. 9 Indian Motorcycle/Progressive Insurance FTR750) and then fully exploited the temporary head start he held over Bauman, who made an identical move up the inside of Mees in Turn 2 just over a minute later. That short minute, however, provided Beach with the time to accumulate an early 1.123-second advantage.
Bauman stalked his way up toward Beach as the race developed. He cut the advantage to 0.837 as they took the halfway flags and then further decreased the difference to 0.509 with two minute to go. And that gap promised to evaporate to nothing when the leaders ran up the backside of a big pack of lappers just when the clock dipped under the one-minute-to-go mark.
However, a couple minor miscues on the part of Bauman allowed Beach to knife through unchallenged, spoiling any last-lap plans the champ may have formulated during his pursuit.
After securing his fourth career premier-class victory, Beach said, “I just trusted the bike and the team, and it was a lot of fun. For me and the team, it’s nice because we’ve one ‘Super TTs’ and these one-off races, but to win a real flat track race feels great. We had an awesome day and to end it like this is great.”
Mees appeared to be on the wane after being passed by Beach and Bauman, also surrendering third place to Jarod Vanderkooi (No. 20 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750) a few minutes later. However, the factory Indian ace regrouped and took the position back to end the race on the podium. That determined effort may prove important; Bauman now leads Mees by 25 points (217-192) with a critically important stretch of four consecutive Miles looming on the horizon.
Vanderkooi, meanwhile, upped his top-five streak to nine in fourth, while Robert Pearson (No. 27 Rackley Racing/John Franklin Indian FTR750) came out on top of a huge multi-rider slugfest for fifth.
AFT Singles
The AFT Singles Main Event was arguably the most anticipated of the weekend, with “King” Henry Wiles (No. 17 American Honda/Progressive Insurance CRF450R) and his 14-race Peoria win streak set to square off with reigning champion and fellow Peoria genius Dallas Daniels (No. 1 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F). In fact, a rain delay and subsequent schedule reshuffle even moved the class Main Event to the end-of-the-program slot customarily reserved for Mission SuperTwins.
The hype only intensified after Wiles and Daniels won their Semis, while Brandon Kitchen (No. 105 Husqvarna Motorcycles/Vance & Hines Husqvarna FC450) added the spice of a potential spoiler, flashing Wiles-bettering speed in the lead-up to the Main.
However, the Main Event provided even more drama than anyone expected (or wanted). Daniels took the holeshot and immediately built up a small gap from Wiles. However, the race had barely gotten underway when the Estenson Racing prodigy nearly lost the jump landing from the front, veering into the wet grass and crashing to the ground.
Kitchen was the next to go down; he fell hard from second-place in the same area with his bike tumbling over the fence and into the creek, bringing out the red flag.
A lap down and starting from the back of the field, Daniels ripped past half the field following the restart. Unfortunately, his day soon took an even worse turn. A massive headshake suffered while pulling away a tear-off sent him over the bars at speed on the front straight, forcing yet another stoppage.
Wiles continued to control the race up front all the while, assembling his third big gap of the race before a last-lap red flag following a Trevor Brunner (No. 21 American Honda/Progressive Insurance CRF450R) crash brought the Main to a conclusion.
Now with a 15-race Peoria TT win streak to his name, the triumphant Wiles said, “We gutted it out today. It was a bummer to see Dallas go down… He had a little gap on me. I came in here just praying today and thanking God for all my blessings because I’ve had so many of them just at this track alone. I was getting a little emotional coming in here, and it almost seemed like fate that I made that little mistake before Daniels went off the track over there. It was definitely interesting on how things worked out. I really hope everybody who fell is okay.”
Perhaps the biggest winner on the day was Max Whale (No. 18 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 450 SX-FFE). What originally looked to be a task of damage minimization ended with a runner-up result after Whale outdueled Wiles’ teammates, Cole Zabala (No. 51 American Honda/Progressive Insurance CRF450R) and Brunner.
As a result, Whale leapt from two points back to 16 up on Daniels (196-180) with just five races remaining.
Zabala rounded out the podium with Brunner being credited in fourth despite his late crash.
Behind, Ferran Cardús (No. 377 Roof Systems of Dallas/Bullet Strong Racing Honda CRF450R) came out on top of a scrap with fellow high-profile wild card Ryan Sipes (No. 264 Red Bull/Troy Lee Designs GASGAS MC450F) to complete the top five.
AFT Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines
2018 AFT Singles champion Dan Bromley (No. 62 Memphis Shades/Vinson Construction Yamaha MT-07) scored his maiden AFT Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines victory in a charging performance at Peoria.
The Pennsylvanian worked his way up from an early fourth to chase down race-long leader Ben Lowe (No. 25 Mission Roof Systems Yamaha MT-07), finally executing the race’s decisive maneuver entering Turn 1 with just five seconds (plus two laps) remaining on the clock.
Much of the pre-race talk revolved around the fact that Vance & Hines drafted in a pair of TT titans in Hayden Gillim (No. 59 D&D Cycles/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson XG750R) and Jesse Janisch (No. 96 Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson XG750R) to fill-in for the injured Dalton Gauthier (No. 79 D&D Cycles/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson XG750R). A 1-2 for the super subs seemed like not only a possibility but a probability after they powered to victories in their respective Semifinals.
However, their threatening presence actually turned out to be a boon for Bromley. In the end, the duo finished third (Janisch) and fourth (Gillim), providing an additional points buffer between third-ranked Bromley and championship leader Cory Texter (No. 65 G&G Racing/Yamaha Racing MT-07).
Texter, meanwhile, had his work cut out for him from the jump. While clutch issues in his Semi forced him to start from the back, he still managed to battle his way up to sixth at the checkered flag. Ultimately, that allowed him to extend his points advantage to nearly two full races (49 points) over Gauthier.
Bromley, who is just five points further adrift, said, “I knew coming in here this was going to be one of the most physically demanding tracks. I tried training as hard as I could and my mechanic, Nick Henderson, was sending me motivational speeches, books, everything, just to try to get me in the right mindset.
The coolest thing was, for me, the rougher the track and the harder I rode, the easier it was. Toward the end of the race, every lap I caught Ben by about five feet. A lapper held him up a little bit and I was able to capitalize on that. I came through on the next lap and was able to get the win. To be up here is amazing.”
Lima winner Johnny Lewis (No. 10 Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield Twins FT) came home between Gillim and Texter to round out the top five.
The Law Tigers Peoria TT presented by Country Saloon will premiere on NBCSN on Sunday, August 29, at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT, featuring exclusive features and cutting-edge aerial drone and onboard footage.

ETC: Martinez On Pole, Collins 24th, Daniel 32nd At Jerez
Editorial Note: Canadian Torin Collins qualified 24th and American Kristian Daniel Jr. qualified 32nd for the Hawkers European Talent Cup race at Jerez.
More, from a press release issued by Repsol FIM CEV Press Office:
Jerez qualifying complete! We’re all set for race day!
In baking conditions, the riders set about the task of getting the best out of the scorched Jerez tarmac. In the FIM Moto3™ Junior World Championship, it was Ivan Ortola (Team MTA) who got the job done to take pole position. Stepping up the horsepower and it was a third pole position of the season for Alonso Lopez (Boscoscuro Talent Team-Ciatti) in the Moto2™ European Championship as Max Martinez (Team Honda Laglisse) took top qualifying spot in the Hawkers European Talent Cup.
The FIM Moto3™ JWCh qualifying practices were dominated by the track conditions. With conditions much cooler in the morning, almost all riders were unable to improve on their times from QP1 in QP2. And so, it was a Team MTA double at the top with Ivan Ortola taking pole position by just under a tenth from team-mate Elia Bartolini, a fine performance on his 2021 debut in the FIM Moto3™ JWCh. Completing the front row of the grid is Joel Kelso (AGR Team), who picks up his 2nd front row start of the season.
Despite being just 0.128s off pole position, Takuma Matsuyama (Asia Talent Team) heads up the second row of the grid, with David Muñoz (Avatel Cardoso Racing) and Scott Ogden (Aspar Team) both picking up their best qualifying results of 2021 so far with 5th and 6th respectively.
Mario Aji (Astra Honda Racing Team) lines up 7th, his best qualifying performance since he was on pole back in Barcelona at Round 3. Alongside Aji will be Marco Tapia (Leopard Impala Team), coincidentally the number 13 was only 13 thousandths behind Aji in 7th! And completing the third row of the grid is Jose Julian Garcia (SIC58 Squadra Corse), who managed to pip Championship Leader Daniel Holgado (Aspar Team) meaning Holgado lines up at the head of the fourth row of the grid in 10th.
The Moto2™ ECh saw Lopez fight back against team-mate and Championship Leader Fermin Aldeguer (Boscoscuro Talent Team-Ciatti) to take pole position by over a tenth of a second. Neither could improve their time in the afternoon as track temperatures soared into the high 40s and even the 50s. It was a similar situation for Lukas Tulovic (Liqui Moly Intact SIC Racing Team) whose morning time was enough for him to claim 3rd on the grid. Behind the front three, Adam Norrodin (Liqui Moly Intact SIC Racing Team) slotted into fourth, with Xavier Cardelus (Promoracing) and Taiga Hada (AGR Team) completing the second row of the grid.
In HETC, it’s a first pole position of the season for Max Martinez. The 13-year-old has found himself on the front row of the grid three times before in 2021 but never the top position. Lining up alongside pole-sitter Martinez is Brian Uriarte (Team Estrella Galicia 0,0), who set the fastest time in Group B. Completing the front row is Alvaro Carpe (MT-Foundation 77) and in a similar fashion to the other classes, all three set their fastest times in their morning session.

Home heroics: Hickman claims FHO Racing BMW their debut win at Cadwell Park

Peter Hickman became the sixth different race winner of the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship season, claiming FHO Racing BMW an emphatic first race win in the series in front of a rapturous home crowd at Cadwell Park.
At the start, Jason O’Halloran hit the front of the pack, narrowly moving down the inside of Glenn Irwin with Hickman holding third. However, by the time the pack had reached Chris Curve, Glenn Irwin had taken the lead for Honda Racing.
Irwin was trying to break the field; edging out an initial gap of 0.8s over the opening laps, but behind Hickman had made a decisive move on O’Halloran to move into second.
By the seventh lap Hickman had reeled Irwin back in and the advantage had vanished. Irwin made a small mistake to run slightly wide and Hickman didn’t need an invitation as he dived through to take the lead.
Hickman then unleashed a series of fast laps, breaking the lap record with a time of 1m:26.350s, to gap O’Halloran and Irwin, before taking the chequered flag in front of an ecstatic crowd.
However, the podium fight wasn’t over and whilst O’Halloran had moved into second, Irwin was soon under pressure from Tommy Bridewell.
The Oxford Products Racing Ducati rider had left it to the final laps to carve his way through, taking no prisoners to grab the final podium place on the penultimate lap to push Irwin into fourth.
Christian Iddon was able to get to the front of the next pack, moving ahead of Lee Jackson and Andrew Irwin in the closing five laps.
Ryan Vickers, who set the fastest ever lap of Cadwell Park yesterday, was eighth as he bounced back from a high-speed crash in qualifying.
Rory Skinner and Josh Brookes completed the top ten ahead of tomorrow’s two races.

Peter Hickman – FHO Racing BMW
BikeSocial Race 1 winner
“It is mega to win here! We have had a bad run of luck and that race was perfect. I knew I had the pace for the race, as the FHO Racing BMW has been fantastic.
“It was pretty much a perfect race in the end. I saw Jason and Glenn making some moves to start with but I felt I had more pace than they did, so I just settled in at the start.
“I managed to pull a clean move on Jason at Mansfield, which is always tricky there! I then needed to get Glenn and fortunately, he made a mistake, so I was able to take advantage at Barn and that gave me what I needed.
“This is such a tough track, so it feels even better to win! I had to keep my concentration and not make any mistakes, so to be leading until the chequered flag felt like an eternity.
“I am so happy for Faye, and to get our first win here for the team at their home round, was great. It is only our first season, and with all these fans all the way around the circuit, it made it even more special. It has been an awesome day.”
British Supersport: Truelove Wins, Paasch P4 In Race One At Cadwell
Editorial Note: The British Supersport and GP2 classes compete on track at the same time. Brandon Paasch finished fifth overall and fourth in the British Supersport class.

More, from a press release issued by Dynavolt Triumph:
Fourth for Paasch in Cadwell Park Sprint Race
Dynavolt Triumph’s Brandon Paasch crossed the line in fourth position in today’s re-scheduled Quattro Group British Supersport sprint race at Cadwell Park.
With the ever-present threat of rain at the picturesque Lincolnshire circuit, the decision was made to revise the schedule, giving the team just forty minutes between the qualifying session and the start of Race One.
Paasch completed the second row of the grid in P6 for the start of the race and comfortably found his rhythm for another strong finish in the opening race of the weekend.
Brandon Paasch: “Pretty solid start I was up there battling with the front guys. Just a tick off though every lap and I couldn’t stay with them but a solid 4th place, happy enough with that. Try to make another step for tomorrow and hopefully be closer to the front.”
With things not coming together as quickly as he would like for his first visit to the notoriously tricky track, Kyle Smith’s qualifying time for the 12-lap race placed him on the fifth row in fourteenth. Despite not really finding the pace, the 29-year-old was still able to bring it home in eighth to bag another eight valuable championship points.

Kyle Smith: “Difficult day today. Not happy with the result, I didn’t feel comfortable on the bike. We made some changes throughout the weekend and we’ve just not found the groove. To be honest in the race it felt, if anything, worse. I think we are going in the wrong direction. So we are just learning and let’s see if we can feel a bit more comfortable tomorrow.”
Dynavolt Triumph Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “Another good ride by Brandon, he is improving every time he rides the bike. One of the big things I have noticed is that his feedback to the team is getting better, he’s more analytical so he’s learning all the time. We know we need to find a bit tomorrow to really compete for the win but we’ll be working on that and we’ll see what we can do.”
“Eighth place for Kyle, but a long way behind. It’s difficult to understand what the issue is, clearly it’s not all the bike because it’s impossible to be that far off the pace. His confidence is not there, we need to do what we can for our rider, who we think a lot of and who we know is capable of winning, to help get his confidence back. Try to find some sort of setting so that he can ride the bike and flow like the true Kyle Smith we know.”

PBIR and Homestead Update
Sadly we have to announce our planned return to Palm Beach International Raceway on September 24-26 has been cancelled due to lack of rider support. First Navarra victory: Redding claims Race 1 honours at Navarra

Saturday, 21 August 2021 12:55 GMT
Scott Redding got the jump on Jonathan Rea in the early stages of the race and didn’t look back as he closed the gap in the Championship
The Circuito de Navarra hosted its first MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship for the Pirelli Navarra Round with Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) claiming his second consecutive WorldSBK win in a row and the ninth of his career after a commanding victory as he closed the gap to title rival Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) to 45 points in the Championship standings.
FIGHTING AT THE START
As the lights went out, Redding got the jump over polesitter Rea into Turn 1 but Redding’s advantage did not last long as Rea fought back at the Turn 6-7 section of the circuit to re-take the lead of the race, also withstanding an early challenge from rookie Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) on the opening lap.
At the start of Lap 6, Redding got a better run out of the Turn 15 right-hand hairpin to make a move on Rea into the incredibly fast right-hander of Turn 1, getting the move completed just before they turned in for the opening turn of the lap, before pulling out a gap of over a second on Rea over the next handful of laps.
Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) was a rider making moves from the start as he battled from eighth place to fourth on the opening lap and found himself behind teammate Locatelli, but spent numerous lap behind him before he was able to pass his rookie teammate on Lap 7 after he ran wide.
BATTLES UP AND DOWN THE GRID
Rea was running in second place but survived two errors into Turn 9 into just a handful of laps as he first had a big moment before running wide a on Lap 15, losing a total of around two seconds to Redding but did not lose out to Razgatlioglu in either the race or the Championship battle; Rea extending his lead over Razgatlioglu to seven points.
There were plenty of battles up and down the field as riders searched for the best possible position, with Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) coming home in fifth place behind Redding, Rea, Razgatlioglu and Locatelli, with Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) leading teammate Michael van der Mark in sixth and the Dutchman in seventh.
Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) and Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) had a battle in the latter stages of the race over eighth place, with American star Gerloff unable to make a pass on the youngest rider on the WorldSBK grid, Bassani holding on to take eighth place with Gerloff in ninth. Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) completed the top ten after a challenging Race 1, the Italian involved in battles in the midfield throughout the race.
Rookie Kohta Nozane (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) claimed 11th place after a strong race battling throughout the field ahead of Tito Rabat (Barni Racing Team) in 12th; Rabat involved in a long battle with Leon Haslam (Team HRC) with the British rider coming home in 13th place. Jonas Folger (Bonovo MGM Action) scored his first points since Race 2 at MotorLand Aragon with 14th place, with Christophe Ponsson (Gil Motor Sport – Yamaha) completing the points. Ponsson found himself on the ground at Turn 3 after an incident involving Leandro Mercado (MIE Racing Honda Team) on Lap 3 at Turn 3 but was able to re-mount his Yamaha machine to secure one point in Race 1; Mercado retired from the race.
COMPLETING THE CLASSIFIED RUNNERS…
Three riders finished the race but were unable to claim a points finish in Race 1 at Navarra with Suzuki wildcard Naomichi Uramoto (JEG Racing) finishing in 16th place, just two tenths behind Ponsson and narrowly missing out on points. Loris Cresson (OUTDO TPR Team Pedercini Racing) had been running in the points-paying positions during the 23-lap race but fell down the order to finish 17th, with teammate Jayson Uribe in 18th; the American having a crash on Lap 13 at Turn 13 but able to recover to finish the race.
TO NOTE…
Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) had an incident on his own at Turn 11. Chaz Davies (Team GoEleven) retired from the race after he crashed on his own at Turn 9 while, at the same time, Alvaro Bautista (Team HRC) had a crash at Turn 12 but was able to re-join before bringing his machine back to the pits.

P1 Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati)
“I feel good. I’ve been feeling good all weekend. My weak point was the start. I got an amazing start and it made my life so much easier. Then it was just ticking laps off, so that’s what I did, and I felt good, I felt comfortable, I didn’t have to override which is a big thing for me in these conditions. I just managed it, felt good. Can’t knock anything, the bike was working well. Maybe there are a few things we could improve but it could also make it worse in other areas. I just did my best to manage the situation and I think I did a good job.”
P2 Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK)
“I felt really good in the first two sectors of the lap, I felt stronger than Scott. Just as soon as we got into that little stop before the back straight, all the stops and turning of the bike, I was just pushing the front too much. We just need to take a little bit of load out of the front. Just the combination of engine brake open and close is pushing the limits. I felt like I had it under control but that one big slide at Turn 9 was enough to put me off a couple of tenths! I was braking really early after that, but I could control the gap to Toprak quite easily. Hopefully we can make a step tomorrow. Thanks to my guys, we battled for the podium today and hope to go one better tomorrow.”
P3 Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK)
“Today was not an easy race for anybody because it was very hot and the tyres had a big drop for everybody. Not bad. I am here and we’ve taken good points for the Championship but I need more tomorrow. We work with my team tonight and tomorrow maybe to improve. I am here, I am happy because we take good points for the Championship.”

Race schedule:
11:00 Moto3™ Race 1 – 16 laps
12:00 HETC Race 1 – 15 laps
13:00 Moto2™ Race 1 – 17 laps
14:00 Moto3™ Race 2 – 16 laps
15:00 HETC Race 2 – 15 laps

British Superbike: Race One Results From Cadwell Park

More, from a press release issued by MotorSport Vision Racing:

SS Race One
