AHRMA: Mauk Wins Vintage Cup Races At Talladega

Mauk retains Vintage Cup Championship lead after Talladega Gran Prix Wins

(Elora, Tennessee) – Andrew Mauk won two key races but Tim Joyce still has a chance to win the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) 2021 Vintage Cup championship.

The Vintage Cup, showcasing the 500 Premier class for 2021, sponsored by Roadracing World (roadracingworld.com) and NYC Norton (nycnorton.com) was featured during rounds 19 and 20 of the 2021 Bridgestone Tires AHRMA National Historic Cup Roadrace Series, at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway, Munford, Al, on September 4 and 5.

On September 4, Mauk, riding Keith Leighty’s Honda CB450, led from the green flag to the checkered flag.  Joyce had a complicated weekend as the 500cc Candy Manx he typically races experienced mechanical problems.  Joyce ultimately raced John Turner’s BMW to a second-place finish.

Tony Read took third aboard Andy Findlings’ BSA Goldstar and Jerry Duke was fourth on his Ducati 350.

Sunday’s race was a replay of Saturday, with Mauk taking first, Joyce second, Read third and Duke fourth.

“Andrew Mauk is the dark horse, but he’s been here all along, showing he’s a serious force to be reckoned with,” said said Kenny Cummings of NYC Norton. “Leading Tim Joyce in any championship is a big feat and Andrew is getting it done.

Mauk now leads the 2021 championship by 171 points.  However, Joyce can still take the title depending on how the pair finish during the final two rounds at the Barber Vintage Festival in Birmingham, AL October 9 and 10.

“Statistically, Andrew needs to win both days.  If Tim wins on one of those days, he will prevail and take home the Vintage Cup.  We are gonna have a slamma in Alabama,” said Cummings.

A special 2021 Vintage Cup Trophy will be awarded to the 500 Premier class winner at select events including Roebling Road, Heartland Motorsports Park, New Jersey Motorsports Park, Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca and Barber Motorsports Park.  Race dates and event registration links are available at: ahrma.org/schedules-results.

MotoAmerica: Gagne Can Clinch Superbike Crown At NJMP (Updated)

MotoAmerica Invades NJMP With Gagne On The Verge Of Title

Jake Gagne Can Clinch MotoAmerica Title In New Jersey This Weekend, September 10-12

IRVINE, CA (September 8, 2021) – If things play out like they have all season long, Jake Gagne will be crowned the 2021 MotoAmerica Superbike Champion after the second of three HONOS Superbike races at New Jersey Motorsports Park on Sunday morning.

With three HONOS Superbike races scheduled for the penultimate round at NJMP (one on Saturday, two on Sunday), there are 75 points up for grabs in New Jersey. Ditto for the season finale at Barber Motorsports Park, September 17-19, where another three Superbike races will be held and thus another 75 points available. That’s 150 points. After race one on Saturday at NJMP, that number drops to 125, and on Sunday it becomes 100 and then 75 when the series heads south.

The bottom line is this: Gagne is currently 93 points ahead of Scholtz in the title chase, 325-232. If Gagne wins race one on Saturday and Scholtz finishes second, Gagne leads by 98 and he would need to have 100 points in hand to clinch. If he wins race two on Sunday morning and Scholtz is second, the lead is 103 points and Gagne can celebrate. Obviously, if Gagne wins and Scholtz finishes worse than second, all of this changes in favor of the Fresh N’ Lean Attack Performance Yamaha rider.

But first things first, we race. After 14 of 20 races, the HONOS Superbike Series arrives in the Garden State with Gagne in complete command and on the verge of making history. Three more victories out of the six remaining races and Gagne will tie Cameron Beaubier and Josh Hayes for the record of 16 AMA Superbike wins in a season. Based on the season thus far, it would be tough to bet against Gagne ending the season with 19 victories out of 20 starts. Amazing.

Westby Racing’s Scholtz and M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Cameron Petersen are the only riders in the HONOS Superbike class who haven’t been mathematically eliminated going into the NJMP round. Scholtz has put together a nice consistent little season for himself and the team and he is still the only rider other than Gagne to win a round. That came in the very first race of the year at Road Atlanta when Gagne’s YZF-R1 failed him on the opening lap. Scholtz has nine podiums in addition to that lone victory and remains the only, albeit slight, threat to Gagne’s title hopes.

Petersen has had a breakout year on the M4 ECSTAR Suzuki in his first year in the HONOS Superbike class on a real Superbike and the non-defending Stock 1000 Champion sits in a fairly solid third place in the series standings. Petersen has four podiums in total but has gone five races without a top-three finish.

Petersen’s teammate Bobby Fong went through a rough patch midseason, but he’s turned that around with two trips to the podium in the past four races. Fong is 19 points adrift of Petersen in fourth and 16 clear of fifth-placed Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati New York’s Loris Baz.

Baz’s rookie MotoAmerica season has been marred by five non-finishes and highlighted by six podiums – four of which were runner-up finishes to Gagne, a number that matches Scholtz’s second-place tally.

With four non-starts in a row, Josh Herrin arrives in New Jersey sixth in the title chase and a whopping 180 points behind his Fresh N’ Lean Attack Performance Yamaha teammate Gagne. With COVID-19 behind him, Herrin is hoping for a late season run of success, beginning at NJMP. Herrin is just four points behind Baz.

Twenty-one points behind Herrin is Scheibe Racing BMW’s Hector Barbera, the Spaniard seventh in his debut MotoAmerica season. Barbera has been consistent with finishes in the fifth to eighth-place range at every round he’s finished, and he only has one DNF on his record.

Altus Motorsports’ Jake Lewis, the first of those fighting for the MotoAmerica Superbike Cup that goes to the top-finishing Stock 1000-spec racer, is eighth overall and that puts him 14 points ahead of Travis Wyman Racing’s Travis Wyman in the chase for the $25,000 bonus that the Superbike Cup pays.

Panera Bread Ducati’s Kyle Wyman rounds out the top 10 in the HONOS Superbike point standings with the New Yorker missing six races due to a broken elbow suffered at the Road America round in June.

HONOS HVMC Racing’s Corey Alexander is 11th overall and 19 points behind Lewis in the Superbike Cup standings.

The first of three HONOS Superbike races will take place on Saturday at 3 p.m. On Sunday, the two races will take place at 11:10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

NJMP Superbike Notes…

Seven different riders have won AMA Superbike races at New Jersey Motorsports Park in the 12-year history of the series in the Garden State and only two of them will be racing this weekend. Ironically, those two will be teammates for the weekend – Fresh N’ Lean Attack Performance Yamaha’s Josh Herrin (two wins) and Toni Elias (three wins).

The most successful AMA Superbike racer at NJMP is far and away Josh Hayes. Hayes, who is currently a rider coach in the MotoAmerica paddock, has won 11 of the 26 Superbike races held at NJMP. Fittingly, Hayes won the first two Superbike races held at NJMP in 2009 and followed that up with two more wins in 2010. In fact, the four-time AMA Superbike Champion won seven of the first eight races held in New Jersey. Hayes also won the first two Superbike races of the MotoAmerica era at NJMP in 2015.

Five-time AMA Superbike Champion Cameron Beaubier won both HONOS Superbike races last year at NJMP for his fifth and sixth career Superbike wins in New Jersey. Beaubier, who is now racing in the Moto2 World Championship, topped Mathew Scholtz in race one last year and his then-teammate Jake Gagne in race two. Toni Elias finished third in race one with Scholtz taking the final podium spot in race two.

With his 13 successive AMA Superbike wins coming into the NJMP round, championship points leader Jake Gagne is now tied for 14th on the all-time win list with Blake Young and Doug Polen. A win in New Jersey this weekend would move Gagne up to a tie for 12th with Scott Russell and Eddie Lawson. If Gagne were to win all three races this weekend, he will vault to ninth all-time and that will tie him with MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey on the win list. Rainey will be in attendance this weekend at NJMP. The all-time AMA Superbike win leader is Mat Mladin with 82 career victories.

Stat of the week: Believe it or not, Jake Gagne has led every single lap of the HONOS Superbike class since lap nine of race two in the opening round at Road Atlanta. All told, Gagne has now led 213 consecutive laps.

Cameron Beaubier holds the Superbike lap record at the 2.25-mile NJMP with the Californian setting a best of 1:19.806 to earn pole position in the Superpole session. The fastest lap set in a race last year was Beaubier’s 1:20.310 from race one.

Much to his chagrin, we bring this up every year: Roger Hayden, who won twice at NJMP during his Superbike career, finished second five times. Included in those five second-places were a .044 of a second loss to Josh Hayes in 2015, .156 of a second loss to Toni Elias in 2016 and a .039 of a second loss to Elias in 2017. Hayden currently excels in his color commentary of MotoAmerica’s races on MotoAmerica Live+, the series live streaming and on-demand platform.

Westby Racing Is Ready For A Superbike Trifecta In New Jersey This Weekend

Tulsa, OK – September 8, 2021 – Round eight of the 2021 MotoAmerica AMA/FIM North American Road Racing Championship starts this Friday at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) in Millville, New Jersey, and it’s the first of two consecutive race weekends that will see the season wrap up at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.

For Westby Racing’s Superbike team, featuring rider Mathew Scholtz, three races at NJMP will be a thorough test of skill, conditioning, and determination as they fight to maintain their second-place position in the Championship, as well as add to their 10 podium finishes so far this season.

“It’ll be nice to be back on the bike after this long break that we had since Pittsburgh,” Mathew said. “We’ve made a lot of progress during these last few rounds, so it’ll be great to get back to business, put our heads down, and challenge up front. Last year at New Jersey, Jake (Gagne) and I had a really close race, and he just barely managed to pass me on the final run to the finish line. New Jersey is one of the better circuits for me, so I expect to be challenging him in all three races this weekend. As a side note, I’m also excited that my parents will be at NJMP to watch me race. It’s been a long time since they’ve been able to do that, so it will make this weekend extra-special.”

Crew chief Ed Sullivan commented, “We’re all really excited to get the weekend started. After a couple of strong rounds, we have a really good direction with the bike, and I’m confident that we can be right in the mix for wins over the next two weeks. With the three-race format, there are a lot of points up for grabs, and I know Mathew is feeling good and is keen to finish the season on a high note.”

Team manager Chuck Giacchetto added, “Jersey is a place we love to come to. The fans are always awesome, and we have a large contingent of “tri-stater” fans from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. When you get them all together and give them a show to cheer about, you can never predict what might happen during the podium celebrations, and that’s where we plan to be.

“Mathew and the team have continued to adjust and move forward together. The past weeks off have given the technical crew some time to get bodies and minds rested for the final run to the championship. We will absolutely hit the ground running and look to close out 2021 in grand fashion.

“Mathew has a very clear head about him, and I feel he will attack the three-race format at these final two rounds like a championship fighter. Remember, it ain’t over till it’s over.”

Superbike final qualifying is on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. ET, and Superbike race one will go green on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET. Superbike race two is on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. ET and Superbike race three starts at 3 p.m. ET. Saturday’s race one and Sunday’s race three will both be broadcast LIVE on FOX Sports 2 (FS2), while Sunday morning’s race two will be broadcast LIVE on FOX Sports 1 (FS1). All three races will be streamed on MotoAmerica Live+.

For Westby Racing’s Junior Cup rider Jack Roach, the young Brit has had a season in which he has learned a lot about racing among close-knit packs of riders, using the draft to his advantage whenever possible, and maintaining corner speed. His learning will continue this weekend at NJMP’s 12-turn, 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway.

“I’m excited to get back to racing again this weekend,” said Jack. “I want to thank Chuck (Giacchetto) and the whole Westby Racing/N2 Racing team for putting my bike back together. I love racing at NJMP, and I can’t wait to see all the fans out there, too.”

Junior Cup race one starts on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET, and Junior Cup race two is on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET. Both races will be streamed on MotoAmerica Live+ and also broadcast via tape-delay on FS2 this Tuesday, September 14, beginning at 12:30 a.m. ET.

Meet Mathew and Jack, Get Some Autographed Posters, And More

Mathew and Jack will both be available at the Westby Racing transporter in the paddock at NJMP with free, autographed posters and other team items to hand out, so be sure to check the schedule and stop by during those autograph sessions.

Loris Baz and Kyle Wyman Set to Bring the Thunder to the North East for Round Eight

Sunnyvale, Calif., September 8, 2021 – MotoAmerica gets set for a double header to finish off the 2021 season, with the first half being round eight this weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park, followed one week later by the grand finale at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama.

The intensity of the final two rounds has also been increased by there being three Superbike races on the cards at each event compared to the usual two, giving Kyle Wyman (Panera Bread Ducati) and Loris Baz a golden opportunity to seal top 10 finishes in the championship, with Baz in particular in with a shot of third place overall in 2021.

After some time at home in France over the past three weeks since round seven at Pittsburgh, Baz is ready to attack in what will be the home race for his Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati New York team. The Frenchman needs two good rounds to seal a championship top three, with a 35 point deficit to make up to current third place rider, Suzuki’s Cameron Petersen.

For Wyman, this weekend marks the first time that he can count himself as almost fully fit since his Road America race two crash that broke his elbow. The gritty Arizona resident also has close ties to the North East, originally hailing from New York himself, and will no doubt be on for a good showing on his beautiful green and black Panera Bread Ducati in front of his home fans.

“I’m ready to run in this double header, which should be fun,” Baz said. “This is the home round for the team. We’ve run some laps during a track day at New Jersey so we have an idea about gearing and general bike set up, which should mean we won’t struggle as much early in the weekend like last round. It’ll be nice to ride close to New York. We’ll have a lot of people on the team coming and we’ll be trying our best to finish the season with a strong performance.”

Kyle Wyman (Panera Bread Ducati – Ducati #33)

“I’m really looking forward to getting back to New Jersey,” said Wyman. “It’s a track I have had a lot of success at in the past, and with a few extra weeks under my belt for my injured arm to heal, I’m physically in a better place than I’ve been for a long time. The recovery process has been a bit of a saga but I’ve finally got some good strength back and I’m looking forward to closing out the season on a strong note with two good tracks and six more races on the schedule.”

ON TRACK THIS FALL: THE 2022 KTM 450 SMR IS THE ULTIMATE SUPERMOTO RACER

MURRIETA, Calif. – KTM North America, Inc. is pleased to announce details for the 2022 KTM 450 SMR. Razor sharp on the asphalt and with newly-enhanced aesthetics to match, the KTM 450 SMR is the definitive Supermoto machine for hunting the checkered flag or shaving seconds off of your lap time… if you can catch it.

The 2022 KTM 450 SMR delivers KTM’s swift and powerful punch in the Supermoto world. A segment-benchmark for handling and power, this new machine gets even closer to the KTM racing family thanks to its special orange frame, blue seat and racing graphics.

The championship-winning engine from KTM’s motocross and supercross machines has been adjusted and modified for optimum Supermoto use. The motor weighs just 59.5 lbs (27 kg) but growls with torque and bites hard with on-demand horsepower. The power curve is fully exploited by the Pankl Racing System’s 5-speed gearbox that benefits from a sensor that permits specific engine maps for each gear. A 44 mm Keihin throttle body is key to the instantaneous, yet confidence-inspiring, throttle response coaxed from the KTM 450 SMR’s powerplant.

Unrivalled handling is delivered by the chromium molybdenum steel frame—fabricated by robotic laser-wielding for the utmost precision and quality—and the meld of perfect torsion and flex characteristics. The 16 mm offset geometry brings a natural and attack-ready character through the CNC-machined triple clamps with a three-way adjustable handlebar.

Supermoto is all about living on the limits of traction. To make the most of this thrilling ride, KTM has equipped the bike with a long list of premium parts. To that end, WP XACT suspension front and rear helps the 2022 KTM 450 SMR both stick and slide as the forces of physics drive through the Supermoto 16.5/17 ALPINA light, spoked tubeless wheels and Bridgestone racing slick tires. Ultimate braking performance is achieved with a premium Brembo 4-piston radial caliper and master cylinder setup with 310 mm disc on the front and a 220 mm disc on the rear.

MotoAmerica: BARTCON Racing Donates To Answer The Call

Originally, BARTCON Racing was scheduled to visit the New York Fire Department (NYFD) Ladder 10 firehouse at the World Trade Center, but due to heightened security with the present overseas climate our visit was canceled.

BARTCON Racing did, however, have the great pleasure of visiting NYFD Engine 7 Ladder 1 Battalion 1 firehouse just a few short blocks away from Ground Zero at Duane St.

Unfortunately due to the change of time and venue, Lauren [Profeta, Executive Director] from Answer The Call Foundation was unable to join us. Tosha Lackey, however, was kind enough to fill in for her in accepting a check for $2,000.00 for this most worthy foundation that looks after the widows and orphans of both the FDNY & NYPD [New York Police Department].

Big Thanks to Fire Fighter Frank Genco and Chief Michael Ajello for taking the time to show us around the house and making us feel very welcome. BARTCON Racing did not get a chance to visit any Police precincts but may still get a chance before we get down to the next round of MotoAmerica at New Jersey Motorsport Park.

Also big thanks to Robert Lackey for photos and video.

CCS Atlantic Region Featuring AMA Sanctioned ASRA Team Challenge Presented by Michelin Tire

New Jersey Motorsports Park – Thunderbolt Course, Millville, New Jersey

September 4-5, 2021

By Lisa Theobald

Young Gun Gus Rodio dominated the podium during the Championship Cup Series Twin Sprints weekend, featuring the AMA Sanctioned ASRA Team Challenge presented by Michelin Tire endurance race, at New Jersey Motorsports Park with a grand total of seven wins over the two-day event.  Rodio was the winningest expert of the weekend on board his Kawasaki Ninja 400, taking victories in both runnings of the Superbike 500 and Ultralight Superbike races, as well as winning the GT 500, Moto3, and Supersport 500 races on Saturday.

The weekend kicked off with Frankie Babuska, Jr. winning the expert GTO race after a solid start, battling with Corey Alexander and Stefano Mesa.  Alexander had gained the lead when a red flag incident sent the riders back to re-grid for a five-lap sprint to the checkered.  Babuska was back out front when the race restarted, and was able to maintain his advantage to take the first victory of the day on his Babuska Racing Kawasaki ZX-10R.  Mesa finished second with Alexander close behind in third.  Babuska also won the expert Unlimited Superbike and Unlimited Supersport races during the first round of Twin Sprints.

Alexander won the expert Unlimited Grand Prix race on Saturday with Babuska in second, and Michael Selpe third.  Mesa won the expert GTU race Saturday, and the Unlimited Supersport and Unlimited Superbike races on Sunday.

Antal Halasz won the second running of the expert Unlimited Grand Prix race on  Sunday, bringing his grand total of victories for the weekend to five.  He also won Saturday’s expert Formula 40 race, the Heavyweight Supersport and Middleweight Superbike races on Sunday as well as finishing first both in the GTO and Overall classes of the ASRA Team Challenge.

Team Spring Scaffolding riders Halasz and George Demetropolis were the first of only two teams to complete all 69 laps of the two-hour-long Team Challenge endurance race, pushing the finish time to one hour and forty-five minutes, after taking over the lead from early front runners Full Send Moto, and Jones Evolve GT, then picking up the pace.  Team Martinez Racing finished second and Team Full Send Moto third for both the Overall and GTO classes.  Team Martinez Racing, II finished first in the GTU class, and Team Landers Racing won the GTL class.

The overall winningest racer of the weekend was Amateur Jose Luna with eight victories across the two-day event.  On day one, Luna won the amateur GT 500, Moto 3, Ultralight Superbike, Lightweight Superbike, Supersport 500, and Lightweight Supersport races.  On day two, he won the second running of the Ultralight Superbike race, as well as the Superbike 500.

The CCS Atlantic region will meet again to compete with all regions for the 38th Annual Race of Champions Daytona International Speedway October 15-17th along with the ASRA Sprint and Team Challenge finals.

All race results, lap times, points standings, as well as information regarding the remaining 2021 schedule, licensing information, rules, and general information for all regions are available online at:   www.ccsracing.us.

More, from a press release issued by Rodio Racing:

Gus Rodio takes 7 wins at NJMP with CCS Twin Sprints Weekend

After winning 7 races with CCS this past weekend, Gus Rodio exclaimed, “It’s great to be back here on my home track and feeling stronger and more comfortable on the bike than ever before.”

Saturday brought 5 wins in the Expert GT500, Superbike 500, Supersport 500, Moto3 and Ultralight Superbike classes.

Rodio continued “We had some battles getting through the first wave of racers in some of our classes,  but I was able to lay down some really good laps after that. I was super stoked to get into the 1:30’s on my Kawasaki Ninja 400.”

Sunday started off with the Team of Gus Rodio and good friend Anthony Mazziotto racking up some laps in the ASRA Team Challenge (69 Lap Endurance Race). The duo got off to a rough start with a low side in T5 during the early stages but the crew got the bike back together and headed back out about 5 laps down. However, misfortune would strike again while running out of fuel on the last lap, literally 4 corners short of the finish.

“I had a-lot of fun on the 400, maybe too much fun…even though I had to push this thing back,” said a laughing Mazziotto.

Sunday continued for Rodio with 2 more wins in the Ultralight Superbike and 500 Superbike classes but rain showers moved in and the team decided to sit out the last 2 races.

“Sure, we got the bike really dialed, and we’d love to see a 1:29, but we just can’t take any chances going into MotoAmerica here at NJMP next weekend,” said Team owner, Kevin Rodio.

The Rodio Racing Team heads back to NJMP with MotoAmerica this weekend for Round 8 of the Series where Rodio is currently in 4th place in the Championship Points.

Throughout his career with Aprilia, Aleix Espargaró has always looked forward anxiously to the Aragón round. His particular feeling with the MotorLand circuit, which is apparently also very well suited to the characteristics of the RS-GP, has often allowed the Spaniard to achieve some of his best performances of the season on this asphalt. In the current season, expectations are even higher because of the outstanding form Aleix and his Aprilia have demonstrated, culminating in the first historic MotoGP podium for the Italian manufacturer. However, the celebrations from Silverstone have not distracted from the primary objective, still focused on consistent performance.

It will also be an important weekend for the début of Maverick Viñales astride the RS-GP on a race weekend. An opportunity for Aprilia and for Maverick to prepare for the 2022 season, accumulating experience in a race environment, so under the most demanding conditions. The first approach in Misano during two days of testing was positive for both the rider and the Italian team, but everyone is well aware that the long road to achieving ideal chemistry has just begun.

ALEIX ESPARGARO’

“Aragón is a track that I like a lot. I always feel good here, no matter what the conditions are. This year, we are arriving with a particular spirit – that much is clear – after an important result and with high expectations, but our goal remains the same. We must stay focused and keep working race after race. We know we can battle for the top positions and the podium in Silverstone simply confirmed that.”

MAVERICK VIÑALES

“I can’t wait to get back on the track. The chance to do that straight away is definitely important, especially in view of preparing for the 2022 season. I might not be 100% ready after only two days of testing, but being on track with the others and being able to compare notes with Aleix, who is doing great things, will help me improve my feeling with the RS-GP. The Aprilia staff is highly motivated. I sensed a lot of enthusiasm and a desire to grow which is just more motivation for me to jump into the mix straight away.”

Moto2: Acosta, Augusto Fernandez Riding For KTM In 2022

RENEWED MOTO2 ROSTER FOR KTM GP ACADEMY AND RED BULL KTM AJO IN 2022

2021 KTM GP Academy news

Moto2 world championship-leaders, Red Bull KTM Ajo, will field two new riders for 2022 with Moto3 starlet Pedro Acosta set to make the move into the intermediate class while fellow Spaniard Augusto Fernandez joins the KTM GP Academy.

– All-new Moto2 line-up for the KTM GP Academy in 2022 with Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernandez

– Acosta charged for rookie Moto2 campaign while Fernandez will enter sixth Moto2 season

– Red Bull KTM Ajo still pushing for 2021 Moto2 title with Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez

Red Bull KTM Ajo’s fantastic work with the development of Remy Gardner (four Grand Prix wins in 2021 in his first season with the crew and currently leading the championship) and Raul Fernandez (the rookie has four victories and seven podium finishes) has been a crucial part of the KTM GP Academy process. Both riders will take their places in 2022 MotoGP with the Tech3 KTM Factory Racing team.

The Moto2 set-up now looks towards their next project and have two equally promising racers in the forms of Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernandez. Acosta, 17-years-old and the 2020 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup Champion, has been the revelation of the Moto3 division in his maiden term. The teenager has shaken the contest with five wins and six trophies in total as the series prepares to visit MotorLand Aragon this weekend.

Fernandez, soon-to-be 24 years old, brings Moto2 experience and podium pedigree (eight trophies, including three wins) to the race team. The Spaniard is hoping to make the last step to full championship candidate with the Ajo structure and seize the opportunity to further stamp his name in Moto2 results, much in the same way Gardner has done in 2021.

Pedro Acosta: “Jumping to Moto2 was my goal because I believe it’s the step I need to make. Of course, there is always more to learn – and I could do that in Moto3 – but when it comes to details and my development as a rider then it feels like the right move. It’s a big advantage to stay in the Red Bull KTM Ajo team as we now have a year of working together and it’s always important to keep a good and positive feeling with the people around you. The team have really helped me in my first world championship year. It’s been a big step into the world championship but I worked for it and I’m happy with how things have been going.”

Augusto Fernandez: “I’m really happy and satisfied to be joining Red Bull KTM Ajo. The team has been a reference in the category now for many years by winning races and fighting for championships. I think that experience of going for titles will really help me next year and I’m already looking forward to working with them.”

Aki Ajo, Team Principal: “We’ve had a very strong season in Moto2 with Remy and Raul and there are still a few races to go but looking to 2022 we are very happy to have another couple of great riders with Pedro and Augusto and a promising combination of experience and youth. We have known Augusto for some time and have seen his career and results. He has shown big potential and I think we can achieve great things together. Pedro’s rookie year in Moto3 has been something special and even more is coming. The step to Moto2 after just one season in Moto3 is a big one but if there is one racer that can make this step then it’s Pedro. We have a lot of trust in him and will, of course, fully support him. Together with Red Bull and KTM I am confident we have selected the right riders for our KTM GP Academy for the future.”

Pit Beirer, KTM Motorsport Director: “We are very pleased to announce the Moto2 rider line-up with Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernandez for our KTM GP Academy. Together with Red Bull KTM Ajo we have the best possible structure to support both riders in their next challenge. Aki Ajo and his team have played a fundamental role in the careers of many riders and we can be proud to have him by our side for the next project in rider development. It is a great pleasure to support Pedro’s desire to move up from Moto3 to the next category. What he has shown in his first World Championship season is outstanding and we believe he can keep the momentum going. He will continue to focus on his goal for 2021, but we will then tackle the next challenge together. With Augusto we welcome another promising talent to our Red Bull KTM family. He has shown great signs and we are happy to have an experienced Moto2 rider in our line-up. I am sure that under Aki’s guidance he can make the next level in performance and we will celebrate some exciting results in the near future.”

ET.

More, from a press release issued by Ducati North America:

ALEIX SEEKING CONFIRMATION AFTER THE HISTORIC PODIUM IN SILVERSTONE

MAVERICK VIÑALES TO MAKE HIS EAGERLY ANTICIPATED DÉBUT ON THE OFFICIAL RS-GP
