British Superbike: FHO Racing Re-Signs Hickman For 2022

FHO RACING BMW SIGNAL TITLE INTENTIONS FOR 2022 BENNETTS BSB BY RE-SIGNING HICKMAN

FHO Racing BMW are striving for further success in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship next season and are delighted to announce the return of Peter Hickman to the team for their 2022 campaign.

As the newest team on the grid in Britain’s most prestigious motorsport championship, the pairing of FHO Racing BMW and Hickman have been a formidable combination during their debut season with the all-new BMW M 1000 RR.

In their first season together, FHO Racing BMW and Hickman claimed a place in the all-important Showdown and still remain in mathematical contention ahead of this afternoon’s opening race of the title-deciding weekend at Brands Hatch.

The highlight of the season so far came with a double victory at the team’s home round of Cadwell Park, plus together scoring a further three podium finishes, including the first for BMW’s newest Superbike model at the season opening round at Oulton Park.

Peter Hickman

“I am obviously really excited about next year and it is great to know I am staying with the FHO Racing BMW team. It is a fantastic team to work with, the crew all work really well together, which is awesome and so to have continuity with another year is great news.

“We will only get stronger and we are always learning, especially with the new BMW M 1000 RR. It has been working well this season and so to have the momentum to continue developing and moving forward is fantastic. We can really hit the ground running next year and have a proper crack at the championship.

“This is the first time I have come into the final round with a mathematical chance of even winning the title, so this has been my strongest year in BSB. Although I finished fourth overall in 2017, I feel that this has been my strongest year as the championship gets harder and harder because of the competition, but for sure, this has been my strongest. We have had a bit of bad luck this year at times but we have lots to look forward to next year and we can’t wait.”

Faye Ho: Team Principal

“I am happy to announce that Peter is the first rider to be confirmed in the FHO Racing BMW line up for next season. We have achieved a lot together in our first year, and I am proud of what we have accomplished with a new team and new bike in what was a completely new challenge.

“I feel that now that we have the experience of this year, we can spend the winter building to make a stronger championship in 2022, and together we will be aiming for even more success. I am really motivated to keep this momentum going as a team as we strive for even more in our second year.”

“It has been a really positive day for us and I feel that is probably our best day in two rounds so I am happy with that. I got that good feeling back that I had with the bike in the middle of the year, so I am really chuffed with that.

“It was a really solid run at the end of the day and I was looking like I would improve on the last lap but I got caught up in a bit of traffic, but I feel comfortable and confident. We will make a few little changes in the morning and then we will be ready for race one.”

Brandon Paasch was sixth quickest for Dynavolt Triumph as the final round of the 2021 Quattro Group British Supersport Championship got underway today at Brands Hatch in Kent.

Early morning cloud and drizzle meant that few riders ventured out for Free Practice One as there was really nothing to be gained, and with no improvement to the weather throughout the session both Paasch and teammate Danny Webb completed only four laps between them.

Brandon Paasch: “It’s not too bad, 1.3 seconds off.  We missed the first practice; well everybody basically did because it started misting right before we went out so it was good to get one practice in today.  Tomorrow qualifying in the morning, I’m feeling good, feeling confident so let’s go.”

The weather broke in time for a completely dry afternoon session which was good news for Webb at his first visit to the 2.4-mile GP circuit in six years as he ended the day just behind his teammate in seventh position on the combined timesheets.

Danny Webb: “We’ve had a good day today, unfortunately in the first session there was really light drizzle so we didn’t get out because it just wasn’t worth it.  Second session went well.  It was a good start, I’ve not been here for six years so it was nice to get my eye in.  A few alterations to make to the bike to make it a bit more comfortable and we’ll be ready to go tomorrow.”

Dynavolt Triumph Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “This afternoon was the first dry session. Obviously we need to find some time to be where we want and need to be but we are confident that Danny, Brandon and the boys working with Devis from Bitubo can make the difference and put us in good shape in qualifying.”

World Supersport: Cluzel Under Lap Record In FP2 In Argentina

SSP FP2

More, from a press release issued by Dorna:

Cluzel responds from FP1 crash to top Friday, smashes WorldSSP lap record at San Juan

The French rider had a high-speed accident at Turn 6 in the morning but bounced back in style in the afternoon with a new all-time lap record

As the FIM Supersport World Championship paddock descended on Argentina and the Circuito San Juan Villicum for the first time since 2019, Jules Cluzel (GMT94 Yamaha) smashed the all-time lap record at the circuit as he looks to maintain his 100 per cent winning record at the Argentinean venue during the Motul Argentinean Round.

CLUZEL SETS THE BENCHMARK

French rider Cluzel has won both WorldSSP races held at the San Juan Villicum venue and set the pace on Friday with a 1’41.926s, some seventh tenths under the previous lap record held by compatriot Lucas Mahias. Cluzel missed out on a lot of running in Free Practice 1 but responded in the perfect fashion during the second 45-minute practice session with a new all-time lap record, finishing eight tenths clear of Manuel Gonzalez (Yamaha ParkinGo Team) and nine tenths clear of Championship leader Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha); both riders making their debuts at the Argentinean venue.

A CLOSE BATTLE FOR THE PODIUM BREWING?

Between Gonzalez in second and Philipp Oettl (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) in 15th, 14 different riders were separated by around one second a close battle for the podium appears to be brewing throughout the WorldSSP field. Hungary’s Peter Sebestyen (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team) was fourth fastest after a strong day, finishing as the lead Evan Bros. Yamaha outfit with teammate Steven Odendaal in eighth place.

Niki Tuuli (MV Agusta Corse Clienti) was fifth as the sole MV Agusta rider in the field, and the first non-Yamaha rider. The Finnish rider had suffered from technical issues in Free Practice 1, late on in the session, but was able to get back out on track for Free Practice 2 to post a 1’42.996s for the fifth-best time, with Dutch rider Glenn van Straalen (EAB Racing Team) completing the top six after a late lap.

ROUNDING OUT THE TOP TEN

Italian rider Raffaele De Rosa (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) claimed seventh spot with De Rosa having a strong Friday session, missing out on a spot in the top six by just 0.012s to van Straalen. De Rosa was the highest-place Kawasaki rider in the combined classification with seventh place, finishing clear of Odendaal in eighth.

Can Öncü (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) was ninth on Friday after consistently setting good sector times in Sector 1, with Estonian Hannes Soomer (Kallio Racing) rounding out the top ten after posting a time good enough for the top six in FP1; although all riders were able to improve in the second session.

COMPLETING THE FIELD

Valentin Debise (GMT94 Yamaha) was 11th on his return from injuries sustained from a crash on home soil at Magny-Cours, with Marcel Brenner (VFT Racing) claiming a top-12 spot as he continues to show good pace in WorldSSP. Finnish rider Vertti Takala (Kallio Racing) was 13th ahead of Unai Orradre (Yamaha MS Racing) in 14th and Oettl who rounded out the top 15.

Argentinean hero Andres Gonzales (Yamaha MS Racing) marked his WorldSSP debut with 16th place, just two tenths away from Oettl, while Portuguese rider Sheridan Morais (Wojcik Racing Team), deputising for Christoffer Bergman, was 17th. Leonardo Taccini (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha), who is standing in for Galang Hendra Pratama and making his first appearance on Yamaha machinery in WorldSSP, was 18th. 2020 WorldSSP300 Champion Jeffrey Buis (G.A.P. MOTOZOO Racing by Puccetti) was 19th on his WorldSSP debut with Matias Petratti (Yamaha MS Racing) rounding out the 20-strong field after Friday’s action.

World Superbike: Razgatlioglu Leads, Rea Crashes In FP2 In Argentina

SBK FP2

More, from a press release issued by Dorna:

Razgatlioglu on fire to dominate WorldSBK FP2, Rea crashes

The 2021 WorldSBK title race could be over this weekend and Toprak Razgatlioglu certainly got off to a flyer whilst his main title rival faltered

The 2021 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship’s penultimate round saw an action-packed first day of the Motul Argentinean Round from the Circuito San Juan Villicum. The venue, which returns to the calendar after a year out in 2020, saw Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) dominate day one ahead of Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), whilst title rival Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) crashed hard at Turn 6 with around 30 minutes to go, missing the remainder of the session.

RAZGATLIOGLU DOMINATES: the Turk comes out fighting

It was a good afternoon for Toprak Razgatlioglu, who picked up where he left off in FP1 with the Turkish rider coming out on top once again. Razgatlioglu was almost immediately quicker than he’d gone in the morning and was right on the pace. The Turkish rider set an electric pace throughout his final race run, improving on almost every lap before dipped into the 1’37s bracket in the closing five minutes. A 1’37.872 saw Razgatlioglu maintain his advantage and is definitely the rider to beat ahead of the rest of the weekend. Teammate Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) continued to adapt to San Juan and the Yamaha YZF-R1. On the fringes of the top ten for the majority of the afternoon, Locatelli eventually finished in eighth as he improved in the closing stages, having been tenth in the morning session.

DUCATI AND KAWASAKI: packing out the top five

As the temperature came up, it was a strong showing from Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) who was inside the top four for most of FP2 whilst teammate Scott Redding was also in the mix in fifth. Both Ducatis were right in pursuit as they took to the track and continued to improve their lap times, heading out in the final ten minutes of the session where Redding improved, as did Rinaldi. Redding went second with less than a minute to go whilst Rinaldi maintain his fourth position. Top Independent honours also went to Ducati with Chaz Davies (Team GoEleven) was up in sixth, ahead of Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing), who was mightily impressive in seventh on his first visit to San Juan.

Over at Kawasaki, it was a Friday afternoon disaster for Jonathan Rea as he crashed hard at Turn 6. He and the bike tumbled through the gravel, with the ZX-10RR badly damaged, whilst thankfully the defending six-time World Champion was able to walk away and get a ride back to the paddock on a scooter. Teammate Alex Lowes was having a strong return to action and was second for the majority of the session having been fourth in FP1. Come the end of the session, with Rea unable to improve due the damaged bike, he finished in fifth whilst Lowes was third. Both will look to take the challenge to Razgatlioglu and Redding across the weekend.

HONDA AND BMW: fighting for the top ten on Friday

Top Honda went to Leon Haslam (Team HRC). The ‘Pocket Rocket’ finished tenth on his return to San Juan, making for a solid start for Haslam, as he adapts to the Honda in Argentina. He was of Alvaro Bautista (Team HRC), who was showing top ten pace on a Friday, something he’s not always been able to do throughout 2021, before he eventually finished eleventh, being pushed out in the closing stages of the session. Setting 72 laps between the two riders across the course of the opening day, Team HRC gathered valuable data on their San Juan debut.

It wasn’t the easiest day at the San Juan office for BMW, as Michael van der Mark could only manage 14th and was only a place higher than Eugene Laverty. Both made big gains in terms of lap time but were over 1.4s off Razgatlioglu’s top time. Both BMW riders will look to find a way forward throughout Saturday and Sunday, although van der Mark is always an improver come the races. Van der Mark and Laverty are the only BMWs on the grid this weekend, as the Bonovo MGM Racing outfit decided to finish their season after the last European round of the season at Portimao.

THE REST: Kawasaki surprises and home-heroes

Leading the best of the rest and actually ahead of the factory BMWs, Isaac Viñales (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) was 12th having been a remarkable fifth in FP1. He was just ahead of Tito Rabat (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) who was 13th, as he begins to figure out the Kawasaki ZX-10RR. Samuele Cavalieri (Barni Racing Team) was 16th as he headed of Kohta Nozane (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team), both making their San Juan debut. Home-hero Leandro ‘Tati’ Mercado (MIE Racing Honda Team) was 18th, ahead of Christophe Ponsson (Gil Motor Sport Yamaha). Completing the field, Argentinean pairing Marco Solorza (OUTDO TPR Team Pedercini Racing) and teammate Luciano Ribodino.

M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Lochoff Wins ASRA Team Challenge At Daytona (Updated Again)

In his first visit to the historic racetrack, Sam Lochoff rode a Dunlop-shod M4 ECSTAR Suzuki GSX-R600 to overall and GTU class victories in the ASRA Team Challenge endurance race Friday during the 38th Annual Race of Champions at Daytona International Speedway, in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Lochoff, riding the same Suzuki GSX-R600 he used to take third in the 2021 MotoAmerica Supersport Championship, started the race on row eight of the grid, in the second wave, and took the overall race lead on lap 15 of a scheduled 55 laps.

Lochoff led the race into the first of two anticipated pit stop windows, and after all of the leading teams had pitted, Lochoff emerged with a 23-second advantage thanks to the quick work of his experienced M4 ECSTAR Suzuki pit crew.

Moving up to second place during the pit stops was four-time Daytona 200 Champion Danny Eslick, who had started the race late due some fuel spilling out of the fuel tank on his TOBC Racing Triumph Daytona 675R on the grid and that spilled fuel needing to be cleaned off the motorcycle.

Some very fast laps and a quick pit stop allowed Eslick to work his way up to second overall.

Shortly after the pit stops, the race was stopped when Slopoke Racing crashed into the Airfence barriers outside of Turn Six, causing a lengthy red flag stoppage.

On the restart, Lochoff got the holeshot from pole position, started ripping off some of his fastest laps of the race, and pulled away to win the race by 14.576 seconds.

Finishing second overall and in the GTU category was Birch Racing/B&D House’s Jody Barry and Dorsey “DJ” Birch on a Pirelli-equipped Yamaha YZF-R6. Taking third overall and in GTU was 16-year-old Joseph LiMandri, Jr., who rode his Pirelli-fitted Bauce Racing Yamaha YZF-R6 solo.

TOBC Racing’s Eslick retired with a clutch failure shortly after the restart.

Because of the red flag, the race reached its two-hour time limit before 55 laps could be completed. M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Lochoff completed 43 laps.

We will update this post after the official results are released.

Fastest in SUPERPICKS Free Practice
