MotoGP: Quartararo Says His Mindset Has Changed

MONSTER ENERGY YAMAHA MOTOGP RETURN TO MISANO FOR FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH POINT

Misano Adriatico (Italy), 20th October 2021

The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team are ready to commence the final European leg of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship, starting with this weekend‘s Gran Premio del Made in Italy e dell’Emilia-Romagna.

After a two-week break, the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team is going into this weekend‘s Gran Premio del Made in Italy e dell’Emilia-Romagna with renewed energy.

The Factory Yamaha team is particularly fond of racing at the Misano track, which they view as a home GP. Fabio Quartararo enjoys riding his YZR-M1 at this venue, evident from the two second places he scored here in 2019 and 2021.

However, this upcoming round will be slightly more intense than usual for El Diablo, because he has his first opportunity to seal the deal on his 2021 MotoGP Title quest this weekend. Thanks to the Frenchman‘s brilliant second place in Austin three weeks ago, he is currently leading the championship with a 52-point advantage over his closest rival with three races remaining.

The Misano track plays a significant role in Franco Morbidelli‘s career. Not only did he ride his very first Grand Prix there in the Moto2 class in 2013, he also secured his first MotoGP victory at this circuit in 2020 and made his Factory Yamaha debut there this year during the San Marino GP.

The Italian is hoping to make the upcoming Emilia-Romagna GP another memorable occasion. Following the Misano Test and further rehabilitation for his knee injury since then, he is keen to have another go with improved feeling at this track. He is currently in 17th position in the overall rankings, with a total of 40 points.

The Misano circuit, constructed in 1972, was a regular scene for Italian Grands Prix throughout the 80s and early 90s. The 4.2 km track is ridden clockwise since a radical renovation was done to meet MotoGP’s safety regulations in 2007 that put the circuit back on the MotoGP calendar. The upgrade also included a new chicane, resulting in the current lay-out of six left and ten right corners, and giving the track increased racing excitement.

Those who wish to be reminded of the Misano track‘s lay-out can refresh their memory by watching the Emilia–Romagna GP eSport video and Franco Morbidelli’s ‘Map The Track – San Marino GP’ video.

MASSIMO MEREGALLI

TEAM DIRECTOR

We are back in Misano again, ready to begin the closing chapters of the 2021 MotoGP World Championship. This is a crucial point in the season, for Fabio as well as the team and Yamaha, but we will be treating it as a ’normal GP weekend‘. By this I mean: we‘ll give it our all in every session and work together as a team. We completed the San Marino GP and the immediately following Misano Test with very positive results. We have used that data to prepare for this weekend, so we are expecting to be able to give another competitive performance.

FABIO QUARTARARO

Austin was really tough but rewarding. That second place was great for the championship, especially because we only have three GPs left. For this final part of the competition my mindset has changed a little. The last time we were in Misano, I was racing for the win and not thinking about the championship at all. Of course I will still do my best as always to get the best result possible this weekend, because that‘s what I enjoy most, but I will try to be smart about it.

FRANCO MORBIDELLI

The race in Austin was really tough, mostly because the circuit was very demanding on my injured knee. The two weeks of no racing allowed me to give the leg a bit of rest, so we now start the next Grand Prix in a better shape than we finished the previous one. We made some good progress during the Misano Test in September. We made a big step and improved my feeling with the bike considerably at this track, so I am looking forward to continue working in that direction this weekend.

MotoGP: Marc Marquez Looking To Continue Trend Of Improvement

Marquez and Espargaro return to Misano

The Repsol Honda Team will return to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli for the second time in 2021, looking to build on their first race and a fruitful test at the track.

Of all the circuits on the 2021 MotoGP World Championship calendar, only the Losail International Circuit in Qatar will have had more on-track action than Misano when the season draws to a close. With a full race weekend and two intense days of testing already done, this next Grand Prix is set to be quick from the start. Although, early forecasts are predicting decidedly cooler conditions than the previous edition.

Austin race winner, Marc Marquez arrives back in Italy after not just his second victory of his comeback season, but also in the best form of the year. Three straight top-five finishes, including a podium in Aragon and a win in Austin, demonstrate the improvements Marquez and the Honda RC213V have made since being reunited in Portimao earlier in the year. A positive result earlier in Misano, taking a late fourth place in the race, and a busy but productive test have the eight-time World Champion set up well for round 16.

Like his Repsol Honda Team teammate, Pol Espargaro is eager to return to the circuit after two weeks away and put what he learned during the post-race test to use. Espargaro earned a solid seventh place finish on his previous visit to Misano and is aiming for more after a productive two days testing at the Italian circuit. With tenth place in Austin, Espargaro has so far taken eight top-ten finishes in his debut season for the Repsol Honda Team.

As always, the weekend will begin at 09:55 Local Time on Friday, October 22 with Free Practice 1, with the Gran Premio dell’Emilia-Romagna getting underway at 14:00 on Sunday, October 24 and running over 27 laps.

Marc Marquez

“We come back to Misano in a better situation, each weekend we have been able to improve a little bit more. Now we start the last three races of the year so hopefully we can continue the trend of recent rounds and end the season well. Last race here I had a very funny battle with Miller and Mir so hopefully we can be fighting once again. Let’s see what will happen, conditions could be quite different even if it’s just a few weeks later.”

Pol Espargaro

“It’s time to focus and end the season with a strong last three races. There’s some good potential going into Misano, especially after the test where we were able to try more things. Everyone else has also had a lot of time in Misano so it’s going to be a fast weekend from the start but I think going there a few weeks later could change the situation with the temperature and the weather. Like always, we need to work from Friday and have a good Saturday to be in a position to fight on Sunday.”

ASRA/CCS Race Of Champions: Even More From Daytona

MotoGirlGT Wraps Up National Roadracing Championship Series At The 38th Annual CCS Race Of Champions.

The CCS/ASRA MotoGirlGT National Roadracing Championship Series culminated at Race Of Champions at Daytona International Speedway October 16th & 17th securing National MotoGirlGT Championship wins in MotoGirlGT Superbike, MotoGirlGT 600 Superbike and MotoGirlGT 500 Superbike.

Seventeen-year-old newcomer Elisa Gendron Belen secured her CCS race license in April this year and never looked back winning multiple races in multiple classes. Elisa, who has been doing track days since the age of 12, won National Championships in CCS Atlantic Division Superbike 500 Amateur and MotoGirlGT National Champion in 500 Superbike. Elisa is a freshman at St. John Fisher College, in Rochester, NY, majoring in Sports Management

“I plan to combine my passion for motorcycle racing with a career in Motorcycle Racing management. I believe that organizations such as MotoAmerica and MotoGP are a fantastic place to stake a career, and I hope to work with organizations like MotoGirlGT to bring more women into our amazing sport, both as competitors and an extended fan base.”

She continues, “In the meantime, I look forward to progressing with my racing career, continuing to pick up speed and work on my racecraft. I recently participated in the International Woman’s Cup in Quere’taro, Mexico. I plan to participate in that series again next year and hopefully at some point qualify for a MotoAmerica round.”

Third year racing veteran Michele Beneducci secured not one but two championship wins in MotoGirlGT Superbike and MotoGirlGT 600 Superbike advancing her to expert plates for the 2022 season. This is Beneducci’s (a.k.a. Benny And Her Jet) third season racing with CCS/ASRA, she is also a coach giving back every weekend at EvolveGT Track Days and a Rider Coach/Site Coordinator at Rider Education of New Jersey Inc. (RENJ).

Congratulation’s to Expert racer Brittanie LaPrade who finished first place in both MotoGirlGT Superbike and MotoGirlGT 500 Superbike at The 38th Annual Race of Champions at Daytona International Speedway October 16th & 17th. LaPrade’s wins at Daytona advanced her positions in both MotoGirlGT classes all the while finishing 3rd in AMA 500 SS and 4th ASRA Moto 3.

“I’m excited about the continued future of the MotoGirlGT Roadracing Series,” said Angela Izzo-Sink, the Operating Director of MotoGirlGT Roadracing Championship Series. “I’m proud of all the women who raced and grateful to CCS/ASRA for giving us this opportunity.

“The only changes I would make for next year is take away the MotoGirlGT 600 class which we added this year and keep only the MotoGirlGT Superbike and MotoGirlGT 500 Superbike.

“The MotoGirlGT Series is a great stepping stone for women who want to dip their toes into racing. Once women feel comfortable doing this and get well-situated racing they expand their horizons and race other classes and eventually move up to the ranks of MotoAmerica. This was always my plan!” said Angela Izzo-Sink.

MotoGP: Rossi Looks Ahead To His Final Home Grand Prix

Rossi and Dovizioso set for second GP at Misano

This weekend will be the final home GP for Valentino Rossi and the second for Andrea Dovizioso in PETRONAS Yamaha SRT colours

PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team will be back in action this weekend at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli for the Gran Premio Made in Italy e dell’Emilia Romagna, which will be the final home GP for Valentino Rossi – after a racing career that spans 26 years – and the second for Andrea Dovizioso – since he made his MotoGP return.

After ending the AmericasGP inside the points last time out, Rossi will be aiming to end the last home race of his career on a high and continue to make improvements for the final Grands Prix of 2021. As the scene of three wins, six podium finishes and one pole position in the premier class, home-hero ‘Vale’ will be hoping to give his yellow-clad home crowd something extra to cheer about this weekend.

Team-mate Dovizioso, who is also enjoying his second home race this weekend, will be returning to the scene of his PETRONAS Yamaha SRT debut and hoping to continue his points scoring ways, after ending the race at COTA 13th. Although conditions might be different to what the Italian faced at the SanMarinoGP and two-day Misano test a month ago, ‘Dovi’ is looking forward to getting back on his bike and seeing what improvements he has made since then.

Free Practice 1 will get underway at 9.55am local time (3.55pm MYT) on Friday for Rossi and Dovizioso, with Sunday’s 27-lap MotoGP race bringing the EmiliaRomagnaGP to a close at 2pm local time (8pm MYT).

Valentino Rossi

It’s been good to have these two weeks without races, as we had some busy times – including travelling to the USA, which was a really demanding race. During this time I’ve been training hard at home to make sure we can face the final three races of this season in the best physical condition. This second race in Misano will be tougher than the first one because it is likely to be cooler than one month ago. We need to work to give our best, try to be a bit faster than in the last races and fine-tune the settings to be more competitive. The previous race in Misano was already a really emotional moment for me and, of course, this one will be a special race at home and I really hope the Italian fans can enjoy it.

Andrea Dovizioso

I think it will be very hard to be competitive enough to make it into the top-ten, but the improvements we have made since the first Misano race are huge. I’m really happy about that. After a good experience at that race and also in America, I’m looking forward to going back to Misano. This weekend will be a good opportunity to compare the bike and where we are now to where we were one month ago at the same circuit, although the conditions might be different. I think this will help me to be faster and I’m aiming to stay within the group. I’m really looking forward to being more competitive and fighting with the other riders.

World Endurance: 24-Hour Race At Spa Added To 2022 Schedule

24H SPA EWC MOTOS

MOTORCYCLE ENDURANCE TO RETURN TO SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS ON 4 AND 5 JUNE 2022

It’s official: the 24H SPA EWC Motos will take place on 4 and 5 June 2022. A new chapter in the history of a hundred-year-old circuit will soon be written with the return of the Spa-Francorchamps track to the calendar of the FIM Endurance World Championship.

The Spa-Francorchamps circuit – which from 1973 to 2003 hosted a famous race on the Endurance calendar, the 24 Hours of Liège – now provides motorcycle endurance racing with a very fast, undulating track. Not to mention legendary corners including Raidillon, Double Gauche, Bruxelles and Chicane, which will thrill two-wheeler enthusiasts and offer spectators a fantastic show.

Melchior Wathelet, Chairman of the board of the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps

“We have great pride in once again hosting a motorcycle endurance race: the much-anticipated return of a 24-hour motorcycle race on the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps as part of a calendar featuring equally legendary circuits. A more than symbolic date since the very first race held on our Circuit was a motorcycle race and we are celebrating our centenary year since August 2021.”

Jos Driessen, President of the FMB (Belgian Motorcycle Federation)

“Organised since 1971 by the A.M.C. RAC JUNIOR LIEGE, and from 1973 taking place on the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, the 24 Hours of Liège was one of the major international motorcycling events until 2003 in our country. It was the annual event for many Belgian and foreign motorcycle sport enthusiasts and was a classic in the FMB and FIM sporting calendar. In addition, our country carried off several world titles (Richard Hubin, Stéphane Mertens, Team Wim Motors) and this year our compatriot Xavier Siméon, with the Yoshimura Sert Motul team, became world champion. I am therefore truly happy to be able to welcome once again such a prestigious motorcycle endurance event and would like to thank the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps for all the efforts made to enable the return of this event to Belgium.”

François Ribeiro, Head of Discovery Sports Events

“The return of the 24H Spa EWC Motos is a significant step in the growth of the endurance world championship. Riders, teams and fans around the world are familiar with the famed Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Since our earliest discussions with Nathalie Maillet in May 2016, circuit management, the FIM and the FIA have worked together on a plan to adapt the circuit to the return of motorcycling without altering its DNA. The plan will become a reality in 2022. The event is programmed to take place over the next 10 years in early June. We want it to be not only one of the most challenging endurance races on the EWC calendar but also a big get-together for motorcycle fans, who will be welcomed in the best possible conditions on the world’s most beautiful circuit.”

Jorge Viegas, FIM President

“It is with great pride that we can announce the return of the 24H Spa EWC Motos! After two difficult years during which our promoter Discovery Sports Events, the organisers, the national federations and the FIM had to redouble their efforts to maintain the FIM World Endurance Championship, the flagship events are finally back on the calendar for 2022. We look forward to seeing you for an extremely competitive season where the protagonists will be able to do battle on the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.”

MotoGP: Team Member Caught Submitting Fake COVID Test Results

NO TOLERANCE

Misano (Italy), 19th October 2021

From Avintia Esponsorama Racing we show our total conformity with all the measures taken by Dorna and Irta that, as well as our team policy and code of conduct to which all its members adhere, including mechanics, technicians, family members, sponsors, or any other person close to the team, we are obliged to take specific disciplinary measures and close all relations with our team member, who yesterday, thanks to the great work being done by Dorna and IRTA, unsuccessfully falsified a PCR test to get the access to the paddock of the Misano circuit for the next Grand Prix.

Being the team indirectly responsible for assuming all the costs derived from the exceptional measures by the COVID-19 protocols to all its workers, with this type of actions we are aware that they have wanted to obtain their own benefit putting at risk the rest of the people who make up the team and the championship. These behaviours not only damage the image of the team, but also the rest of the paddock and the championship as a whole.

We would like to clarify that it is the responsibility of each team member to enter their access and PCR test for the organisation, on an online platform for each circuit according to the guidelines that, for COVID-19 reasons, are currently in force for access to the paddock.

Avintia Esponsorama Racing would like to apologise and thank DORNA and IRTA for all the efforts made to keep everyone in the MotoGP paddock safe, allowing the championship to run properly.

ASRA/CCS Race Of Champions: More From The Races At Daytona

Rodio Wraps Up 4 National Titles at Daytona

Gus Rodio added four National Championships to his already impressive racer resume at Daytona International Speedway.

The feat is more impressive given it was the premiere weekend on his 2021 Aprilia RS 660. After picking the bike up two weeks ago, it hadn’t even been dyno-tuned or broken-in before hitting the high banks. In fact, the KTech fork cartridges were actually delivered and installed at the track and the HSBK Race ECU was dropped in and away we went!

“Our Rodio Racing Aprilia was awesome, and I’m absolutely loving learning this new bike,” Gus said during the weekend’s interviews.

With wins in Lightweight Supersport, Lightweight Superbike, Lightweight Grand Prix and Thunderbike, a fresh set of slicks were fitted thanks to Cori Maynard and the crew at Dunlop, and Gus pulled off another win in the ASRA Thunderbike race by just over 29 seconds.

“For some reason all weekend I was really focused on the ASRA race. I wanted that one badly and ran my fastest lap of the weekend during that race,” Gus added. “Having raced Dunlops exclusively in MotoAmerica and CCS for the past few seasons made me instantly comfortable on the new bike.”

Adding the new platform, obtaining parts, assembly, paint, tuning and tweaking the setup kept team owner Kevin Rodio busy all weekend.

“We haven’t really run two bikes (referring to the new Aprilia and the trusty Ninja 400 Gus piloted all season long) since the MiniGP days, so it’s been a bit busier than usual, but the rider kept everything upright which makes it all a bit easier. Not to mention, Muscle Mike came along for the ride and the extra set of hands (and mind) was a welcome safety net,” Kevin said, reflecting on the weekend.

“Gus took to the Aprilia quite quickly, but surprised isn’t the word I would use for the results. We know how strong of a rider he is, and we have a great group of partners making sure he’s on the best equipment possible.”

Rodio Racing will spend the winter training as usual in preparation for the 2022 season. As always, thanks go out to: Dunlop Motorcycle Tires, HJC Helmets, Orient Express/K-Tech Suspension USA, Spears Racing, HSBK Racing.com, Evolve GT Track Days, Liqui Moly, N2 Track Days, Red Mist Racing, Moto-Liberty, REB Graphics, MAR Contractors, VNM Sport.

MotoE: Energica Will No Longer Be Official Motorcycle After 2022

Energica to conclude era as single MotoE™ manufacturer after 2022

Tuesday, 19 October 2021

Dorna Sports can now announce the departure of Energica Motor Company as the single manufacturer for the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup, with 2022 confirmed as the marque’s final season.

Energica has been the sole supplier to MotoE™ since the Cup’s inception in 2019, with 2022 now set to mark the last chapter of a four-year journey full of evolution, excitement and adrenaline. Energica has been a key part of making MotoE™ a must-watch showcase for both electric mobility and close competition, with the Cup racing at some of the world’s most iconic circuits.

The Energica Ego Corsa has proved to be fast, extremely reliable and well-appreciated by the riders who have taken part in the Cup, and will doubtless continue to impress next season before the collaboration between Energica and MotoE™ then concludes. The work done both at the track and at company headquarters has seen constant innovation and new solutions drive MotoE™ to the incredible level it is at now, with Energica showing an ability to react quickly to challenges and different technical requests in record time. The joint effort between all parties has been key developing a competition that will now move into a new era built on a foundation all involved can take immense pride in having constructed together.

Dorna Sports would like to thank Energica for their immeasurable contribution to the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup and wishes the company the best of success in their future endeavours after 2022.

Livia Cevolini, CEO of Energica Motor Company: “We are extremely happy at Energica to have provided our invaluable contribution to make MotoE the success it is today. We’re confident that our initiative and efforts have generated plenty of interest from the big OEMs to follow the path we started a decade ago. Being pioneers of electric mobility on two wheels, we have opened up the way to a whole new strata of sustainable and exciting motorcycle racing and – as we have always done – we now aim at testing ourselves with new challenges. This is why we are looking forward to the next big thing to come! We would like to thank Dorna Sports for the great opportunity to showcase our technology and we are looking forward to wrapping up our journey together in style.”

Nicolas Goubert, Executive Director of the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup: “The first three seasons of the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup have delivered an incredible show despite all the unforeseen external challenges that have been thrown at us. It wasn’t an easy task to undertake and one very new in many aspects, but we did it and this was thanks to a joint effort between all parties involved. From the very beginning, Energica has brought its know-how to the track in a way we couldn’t be happier with,  delivering a package that has proved to be extremely competitive, showing impressive maximum speed (exceeding 260km/h in Barcelona in 2021), and lap-times that on some occasion were in line with other classes – despite the much shorter history of electric motorcycles.

“Maybe even more impressive than the on-track performance was the bike reliability, as none of the 18 riders ever encountered any mechanical failure during any of the races we enjoyed in the three seasons. Their ability to respond quickly and effectively to our requests and the ones coming from the riders and teams are proof of all the expertise and passion they brought to the series. All sides are committed to continuing giving their maximum effort into 2022, for what will be another spectacular year of racing. I would really like to thank Energica for the quality of their innovative products and their engagement in the MotoE series.”

More, from a press release issued by Energica Motor Company, S.p.A.:

ENERGICA PREPARES FOR FINAL MotoE™ SEASON AS SINGLE MANUFACTURER

Modena, 19 October 2021 – Energica Motor Company, the worldwide leader in high-performing, all-electric motorcycles, is working hard to prepare for the brand’s last season as the single manufacturer of the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup.

2022 will mark the last chapter of a four-year journey that has been full of excitement and adrenaline around some of the most iconic circuits in the world. But it has also been one of unexpected challenges and adversities, which the Modena-based company was able to overcome in style and against all odds, as the series quickly became a must-watch in the global spectacle of the MotoGP World Championship.

Energica’s contribution to the all-electric class of MotoGP was undoubtedly an invaluable one, with their Energica Ego Corsa machines that have proved to be fast, extremely reliable, and very much appreciated by the many riders who have taken part in the series and those who will continue to do so next season. The work done both at the track and at the company headquarters – which is unprecedented especially considering the timeframe available prior to the inception of the series – has brought constant innovation and new solutions that have benefitted the World Cup and helped it get to the elevated level where it is now.

The joint effort between all parties involved has been key in developing a series that has now a very solid basis heading into the future – something Energica is incredibly proud of and which will serve the company incredibly well heading into possible future scenarios related to two-wheeled racing.

While thanking all the parties involved in this amazing journey – first and foremost the series promoter Dorna Sports, but also the MotoE official Sponsors Enel X, Michelin, DHL and Allianz – Energica will continue giving the maximum effort and support heading into 2022 to wrap up this incredible journey in fine fashion.

Livia Cevolini – CEO, Energica Motor Company: “We are extremely happy at Energica to have provided our invaluable contribution to make MotoE the success it is today” says. “We’re confident that our initiative and efforts have generated plenty of interest from the big OEMs to follow the path we started a decade ago.

Being pioneers of electric mobility on two wheels, we have opened up the way to a whole new strata of sustainable and exciting motorcycle racing and – as we have always done – we now aim at testing ourselves with new challenges. This is why we are looking forward to the next big thing to come!” We would like to thank Dorna Sports for the great opportunity to showcase our technology and we are looking forward to wrapping up our journey together in style.”

Nicolás Goubert – Executive Director, FIM Enel MotoE World Cup: “The first three seasons of the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup have delivered an incredible show despite all the unforeseen external challenges that have been thrown at us. It wasn’t an easy task to undertake and one very new in many aspects, but we did it and this was thanks to a joint effort between all parties involved. From the very beginning, Energica has brought its know-how to the track in a way we couldn’t be happier with, delivering a package that has proved to be extremely competitive, showing impressive maximum speed (exceeding 260km/h in Barcelona in 2021), and lap-times that on some occasions were in line with other classes – despite the much shorter history of electric motorcycles.

“Maybe even more impressive than the on-track performance, was the bike reliability, as none of the 18 riders ever encountered any mechanical failure during any of the races we enjoyed in the three seasons.
