Yamaha Champions Riding School Announces 2022 Schedule

Yamaha Champions Riding School Announces 2022 Schedule

Millville, NJ – Yamaha Champions Riding School, the premier riding school in North America, is proud to announce the partial 2022 schedule featuring events in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington state. This is a partial schedule release with several more dates to be added in the next few weeks. In all, the 2022 ChampSchool schedule consists of more than 21 events including 2-Day ChampSchool, ChampStreet, and ChampGrad curriculums. Significant “early bird” discounts are available for all schools up to 60 days before the events as most schools will sell out months in advance.

“We pushed hard to get this 2022 partial schedule out early because we’ve had a terrific 2021 but had to turn away a lot of students due to full schools,” CEO Nick Ienatsch explains. “We keep our classes small because we feel that riding must be taught specifically and individually, but we sold out of 2021 2-Day School seats by August! We have added several new events, changed up some programs, and we include our new Champ U online curriculum with every in-person school purchase. Thanks to all riders for their interest; see what events fit your schedule and let’s ride together in 2022.”

Homestead in January

The first event of the year is going to be epic! Yamaha Champions Riding School is going to Homestead-Miami Speedway for what has turned into our annual four-day moto-vacation extravaganza! ChampSchool has partnered with N2 Track Days for four days of fun in the sun. Thursday and Friday January 20 – 21 will feature our 2-Day ChampSchool, and ChampStreet Programs. N2 Track Days will be holding a track day event on Saturday and Sunday, January 22 -23. Rental bikes will be available from Bike Pass Motorsports, Track Bike Rentals, and BobbleHeadMoto. 2-Day ChampSchool students will also have the opportunity to get “third-day” private coaching from Kyle Wyman, Ben Walters, Chris Peris, Eziah Davis and others at the N2 Event. Call the boss and take vacation time now. This event will sell out.

Vegas Baby

Speaking of vacations, the second event of the year will be at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Super Bowl Weekend. The 2-Day ChampSchool and 1-Day ChampStreet programs will be held on Friday and Saturday February 11/12, just in time for students to enjoy the Super Bowl in Vegas. We will be back in sin city at the end of the year with a 2-Day ChampSchool and 1-Day ChampStreet program on December 10th and December 11th. Rental bikes will be available for the 2-Day ChampSchool so you can fly in instead of hauling your bike, while ChampStreet is taught on your own street bike.

Winter Motorsports

ChampSchool’s traditional winter home is Inde Motorsports Ranch in Willcox, AZ. Inde is a gearhead’s dream with 75,000 sq-ft of beautiful facilities, a five-acre skid pad, and an amazing, freshly repaved, 21-turn road course. We will be holding traditional 2-Day ChampSchool events at Inde in February as well as adding ChampStreet to the program. On March 3rd and 4th we will hold our first ever “Racer Only” school.  This event will NOT include our normal 2-Day curriculum, but will focus specifically on racing, race craft, training, nutrition, sponsorship, and racing as a business. Additional Inde events will be added later that will include retail schools and grad-only schools. Inde is the perfect destination to improve your skills while your friends are shoveling snow. Private “third-day” coaching is available from Kyle Wyman and Chris Peris at most Inde Motorsports Ranch events. Yamaha motorcycles are available to rent at all Inde events for a true “arrive and ride” experience.

Texas: Pre-MotoGP

We have had years of requests to come to Texas and its finally happening. We will visit Texas for the first time, rolling into MotorSports Ranch just outside of Dallas/Ft. Worth for a 2-Day ChampSchool program on April 4-5. This is the Monday/Tuesday prior to MotoGP at COTA. Come ride with us at this very fun track and then take the 3.5hr trip to COTA to watch the best in the world.

Illinois: First Mid-West Visit

We have a massive mid-west following who have traveled all over the country to ride with us, and now we are finally coming to them. On August 10/11, we will be holding a 2-Day ChampSchool program at beautiful Autobahn Country Club just outside of Chicago. This is an amazing facility at the perfect time of year.

California Screamin’

ChampSchool loves California and California loves ChampSchool because every California event in 2021 was sold out! YCRS is returning to California for up to six events in 2022. The first California event will be on March 21 – 22 at Buttonwillow Raceway Park for ChampSchool and ChampStreet programs. We will be back at Buttonwillow again for a 2-Day program on October 3 – 4. We can also confirm events at the newly repaved Streets of Willow on April 15 – 16, as well as November 10 – 11. New for 2022 will be our first visit to Thunderhill Raceway Park in Northern California on May 24 – 25 for a 2-Day ChampSchool.

The Carolinas

The ChampSchool team will travel to Garysburg, NC, to the North Carolina Center for Automotive Research (NCCAR, a.k.a. NCBike) and partnering with N2 on April 28th and 29th. We return to the Carolinas again in on September 30 – Oct 1 for another N2 partner event at the freshly repaved Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina. The NCBike and CMP events will be held on Thursday/Friday before N2 Track Days on Saturday and Sunday. This means additional practice for students and private coaching opportunities for Grads.

Mile High in Colorado

ChampSchool is coming back to Colorado on Memorial Day weekend at High Plains Raceway! Saturday May 28 – Sunday May 29. This event will feature our 1-day ChampStreet program and our full 2-Day ChampSchool. This event will sell out and will have limited rental availability, so prep your bike and come ride with our team that includes six-time MRA #1 plate holder Ryan Burke and class champions like Michael Applehans and Joe Clark.

Washington’s Ridge

ChampSchool is back with a full program at “The Ridge” in June. Ridge Motorsports Park is the premier road course facility in Washington state and ChampSchool is excited about returning for our fifth straight year. The event will be held on the Tuesday/Wednesday after the MotoAmerica weekend. Watch the pros race on the weekend and then learn from them during the week.

Northeast: Pitt and NJMP

The Northeast will have four events in 2022. Pittsburgh International Race Complex is one of the most beautiful facilities in the country and YCRS is proud to host an event on August 15 – 17, the week of MotoAmerica, when the weather will be perfect. New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) is the traditional summer home for Yamaha Champions Riding School and they will host three events on May 16 – 18, June 20 – 22, and September 5 – 7. With more than 45 million people within a couple hour’s drive of the famous south Jersey track, NJMP is an extremely popular facility and a ton of fun. The spring NJMP events on the Thunderbolt course will feature a 3-Day program with our ChampStreet/ChampGrad program on day 1 and the 2-Day ChampSchool program on day two and three. The September event will feature the same 3-Day program on the Lightning course, the week of MotoAmerica.

California Superbike School Releases 2022 Schedule

Our 2022 schedule is now live! The dates and locations are similar to last year. One big difference is we are going to Circuit of The Americas in Austin for a 2-Day camp in August, with the option to ride your own bike there. We are returning to Pittsburgh, using the full 2.7-mile configuration. Other news is the Streets of Willow Springs was repaved and quite smooth now. The recent schools there have been a joy with that upgrade. The Ridge in Washington State and Barber in Alabama were also recently repaved and riding them is pure exhilaration.

This is the first announcement so you are pretty much guaranteed to get the dates and locations you want right now. Of course we will have a brand new fleet of 2022 BMW S1000RR’s ready for you as well.

In 2021 it was great to see all the students coming out and getting on with enjoying their lives and improving their riding skills at the school. It’s fulfilling to be able to provide a service that for so many can be transformative. We will see you at the track!

MotoGP: Tech3 KTM Factory Racing Previews Algarve GP

Tech3 KTM Factory Racing pair enters start-finish-straight of 2021

With just two rounds to go this 2021 season, the Grande Prémio do Algarve marks the penultimate event and leads the MotoGP World Championship back to the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve this weekend, a venue that holds fond memories for the Tech3 KTM Factory Racing crew, as it’s the place they celebrated their second premier class victory with local hero Miguel Oliveira in 2020.

After both, Iker Lecuona and Danilo Petrucci delivered some strong performances last time out in rainy Misano, clinching their respective best grid positions aboard the KTM RC16 with their participation in Q2 and eventually an eighth and a ninth place, hopes are high to take along the good spirits, although the last race ended in a disappointing way for both, the Spaniard and the Italian. Yet, Lecuona and Petrucci are eager to terminate this year on a high, starting this weekend at 9.55 local time (10.55 CET).

Iker Lecuona

Championship: 18th

Points: 38

“I want to enjoy that race! I struggled quite a lot when we have been here at the beginning of this season, but I changed a lot, I improved a lot and can keep the pace. So, I think, I can do very well this weekend. I expect to enjoy it, to stay in a good position and to fight for a decent result one more time.”

Danilo Petrucci

Championship: 19th

Points: 37

“I’m really happy to jump back on the bike. Misano was really, really unlucky, but in Portimao we have another chance. It’s going to be the penultimate round for us. We have some data there from April, I’m feeling well and prepared, so I will definitely try to be as competitive as possible this weekend.”

Hervé Poncharal

Team Manager

“We, the Tech3 KTM Factory Racing team start our last trip with two back to back races, the first one being held in Portugal. Of course, arriving in Portimao at this time of the year will make us think a lot of what happened just one year ago, where Miguel and his crew won that race and dominated the whole weekend. For sure it will be emotional for all of us, but I believe the target is going to be a bit different this year. The Algarve circuit itself has a fantastic and very unique layout. Let’s hope we will have the same kind of weather like last year, which brought us perfect track conditions.”

“Yet, Misano was quite good on Saturday, because that was the best Qualifying of the team so far this season. Although the race was a big disappointment with two DNFs, we want to keep the positives and I believe both, Danilo and Iker like Portimao very much. The KTM is going quite well there, so clearly, we arrive there with confidence. We really hope that we will have at least one of our riders fighting in the top 10.”

“I know for both, Danilo and Iker the fact that they couldn’t finish the race last time out in Misano was hard to digest and I think they will be even more eager this time not only to qualify as well as last time, but also see the chequered flag in a decent position. I think they both know about their future now, which will help them to start the weekend with a positive spirit and clearly, they will be able to push with a free mind and no distractions, aiming just to have fun and enjoy the moment on a MotoGP bike.”

Spoiler Alert: Not everything you see in some museums is real. That lunar orbiter you last saw? It may have been a trainer. Those relics from an Egyptian tomb? They might have been replicas. That tyrannosaurus rex skeleton? It’s likely only a small fraction of the bones on display were dug out of the ground.

The motorcycles on display at the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum in Pickerington, Ohio, however, are real. They are the motorcycles that were used to set the records, to win the races, to capture the titles, to do the stunts. And they all are accompanied by the documents, the photographs, and the memorabilia that tell the story. That story is the heritage of motorcycling in America…

In 1990, the Motorcycle Heritage Museum opened near the AMA headquarters, which at that time were in Westerville, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. In 1999, AMA moved to a new, 60,000-square-foot headquarters building alongside I-70 on the east side of Columbus. The museum moved with it, taking up residence in an adjacent 26,000-square-foot building and taking on a new name, the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum. The Husqvarna Motorcycles Norden 901 finally hits dealer floors. First shown to great acclaim as a concept model at the EICMA Show in 2019, Husqvarna Motorcycles has built true off-road ability into an exceptional adventure travel motorcycle that keeps going when the tarmac roads end.

Inspired by Husqvarna Motorcycles multi-terrain Rally machines, the Norden 901 is built to cover long distances across challenging, diverse landscapes. Fast, fun, nimble and above all capable, this is a motorcycle to make even the longest riding days rewarding, no matter how far the rider chooses to go, on road or off.

The Norden 901 brings a tough yet lightweight approach to the midclass adventure sector. A smooth and torquey 899 cc, 105 hp parallel twin engine powers the Norden 901 while balancer shafts minimize vibration. Large diameter 21’’ front and 18’’ rear wheels roll easily over obstacles on the trail. For all its exemplary off-road ability, the Norden 901 also offers unrivalled comfort and agility on tarmac.

A rider headed deep into unknown territory needs to know they can rely on their machine in extreme situations. Therefore, the Norden 901 braking system is backed up by switchable Bosch Cornering ABS with Street and Off-road modes. Husqvarna Motorcycles’ lean-angle sensitive Cornering Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC) is also there to assist, with particular attention having been paid to its levels of off-road assistance.

Intro: Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 Special, In The October Issue

Featured In the October 2021 issue of Roadracing World:

“In addition to being a motorcycle enthusiast, I’m a baseball fan. Over the 100+ years of professional baseball, the game has evolved at a glacial pace until recently. When I was a kid in the 1980s, some teams enjoyed years of success by stealing bases, executing the hit and run, laying down sacrifice bunts, scoring runs with the squeeze play, and winning games by the score of 3-2.

“That was a different time, and over the years professional baseball team owners realized that fans were no longer buying as many tickets to watch players bunt the ball—even if that did lead to wins and World Series Championships. The new generation of fans wanted a spectacle. They wanted to see home runs, so team owners created teams and built stadiums to cater to the new fans.

“Harley-Davidson, like professional baseball team owners from the past, found a successful formula of creating a certain style of product for a certain segment of the market, and they did it for a long time. But those customers are aging out, and in order to attract new customers and survive into the future, Harley-Davidson needed to come up with something new, something bigger and better—a motorcycling home run…”

—Intro: Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 Special, by David Swarts

With its new 2021 Pan America 1250, not only has Harley-Davidson tapped into a new-for-the-company and very popular segment of motorcycling—namely adventure touring—the company has technologically leapfrogged competitors that have long been in the segment. With the Pan America’s very modern powerplant and chassis, relatively low base price, and long list of features and options, Harley-Davidson might have found a new recipe for success in the present and the future. Australian Superbike: 2021 Finale Moved To The Bend Motorsport Park

ASBK To Crown Champions At Epic Grand Finale

A Grand Finale of ASBK is on. Same date, but different track!

The mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship, presented by Motul, will crown five 2021 ASBK Champions at South Australia’s The Bend Motorsport Park in what will be an epic Grand Finale, December 3-5.

The ASBK Grand Finale was made possible after the South Australian Government confirmed earlier this week it would open its state borders as of November 23, following the COVID-19 lockout, ensuring the 2021 ASBK Grand Finale can proceed and with fans trackside at The Bend Motorsport Park.

Ginger Molloy: The Life Of A Grand Prix Racer 50 Years Ago, In The October Issue

Featured In the October 2021 issue of Roadracing World:

When Ginger Molloy decided to become a Grand Prix racer he gave his Matchless G50 a polish, packed a suitcase, filled a toolbox and got a lift to the local train station. It was January, 1963, and Molloy was a tough youngster from Huntly, New Zealand, where he worked down in the coal mines to make money to go motorcycle road racing.

After a 10-hour train ride he arrived at Wellington station, from where he pushed the G50, with toolbox and suitcase perched on the seat, the mile and a bit to the Wellington docks, where he boarded a boat to Southampton, England, a six-week voyage away. When Molloy finally returned home almost a decade later, he was a 500cc World Championship runner-up, a Grand Prix race winner, and he was married, with three kids.

The adventures he had along the way—living on the road like a gypsy, cheating death and ducking and diving to put enough gas in his bikes and food in his mouth—would sound as likely to a modern-day MotoGP rider as would tales of racing on Mars. It is said that history is another country. In this case it’s another planet…

—MotoGP Analysis: The Life Of A Grand Prix Racer 50 Years Ago, by Mat Oxley

When Ginger Molloy finished second in the 1970 500cc World Championship, he lived a very, very different life than today’s MotoGP stars. MotoGP Editor Mat Oxley looks at the difference between top-level racing today and the way it was a half-century ago in the latest issue of Roadracing World!

HUSQVARNA MOTORCYCLES LIFTS THE COVERS OFF THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NORDEN 901

DYNAMIC AND VERSATILE TRAVEL MACHINE TO OFFER OUTSTANDING STREET AND OFFROAD CAPABILITY FOR UNCOMPROMISED EXPLORATION

The engine is housed in a light steel trellis frame, prepared to carry rider, luggage, and passenger to the furthest points of the compass across any terrain, assisted by WP APEX suspension with long travel.

Making every journey an adventure beyond the horizon, the Norden 901 offers three selectable ride modes as standard (Street, Rain, Off-road) and an optional Explorer mode to deal with every circumstance the rider might meet. An Easy Shift function allows for clutchless changes up and down the six-speed gearbox while a Power Assist Slipper Clutch (PASC) maintains rear wheel composure.

Technical highlights:

Chromium-molybdenum steel trellis frame with engine as stressed member
889 cc parallel-twin engine with 105 hp peak power and 100 Nm of torque

Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit was planned to hold the final round but is unable to due to current Victorian border restrictions. The ASBK Management Team would like to thank Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit for their understanding and significant support of ASBK and we look forward to returning to one of the World’s best racetracks in 2022.

After a two-year hiatus caused by the global pandemic, the ASBK Management Team are excited to return to The Bend and thank The Bend management for offering to make the 2021 ASBK Grand Finale possible on short notice.

The Bend is an international award winning circuit and in its short history, has quickly become a rider favourite which tests each and every riders skill and fitness across the 4.95km layout, which will determine who will be crowned the 2021 ASBK Champions.

With the Championship title up for grabs in all five classes of the mi-bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship, presented by Motul, race fans are set for a spectacular Grand Finale over three glorious days of scintillating bar to bar action.

’It’s been a difficult second half of the year with COVID-19 restrictions, but we are ecstatic the ASBK Grand Finale can proceed at the spectacular The Bend Motorsport Park,” said Motorcycling Australia CEO, Peter Doyle.

“The 2021 ASBK Champions will be crowned in all five classes and fans are in for a real treat as the five classes will produce some not to be missed action, so we strongly encourage race fans to get trackside at The Bend.

“Our sincere thanks go to The Bend Motorsport Park management and South Australian Government who have worked hard to ensure the 2021 ASBK Grand Finale can be held.”

The Bend Motorsport Park Managing Director, Sam Shahin said: “2021 has been an intensely challenging year for the motorsport community and we are really pleased we’ve been able to work through the challenges with Motorcycling Australia and the ASBK Management to host the final round of the 2021 ASBK Championship at The Bend Motorsport Park”.

“We would like to thank and acknowledge the great work of the South Australian Government and the support of the South Australian Tourism Commission to make this event possible. Bring on the Rumble.”

The ASBK Grand Finale will operate under a COVIDSafe Plan in accordance with SA Government regulations, and all interstate travellers, volunteers and race fans will be required to be double vaccinated for entry into South Australia.

Ginger Molloy: The Life Of A Grand Prix Racer 50 Years Ago, In The October Issue

The modern day MotoGP paddock—a world apart from the Ginger Molloy Grand Prix racing experience of past times.
The modern day MotoGP paddock—a world apart from the Ginger Molloy Grand Prix racing experience of past times.
