FHO RACING REVEAL EXTENDED ASSOCIATION WITH FEMALE CONTENDERS IN BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION
FHO Racing owner Faye Ho will continue to champion three young female competitors in the British Championship classes in 2022, announcing an extended association with three of the upcoming riders within the British Championship support series.
Faye launched the new initiative earlier this year, as her FHO Racing team worked closely with 16-year-old Charlotte Marcuzzo and 17-year-old Scarlett Robinson in the Hel Performance Junior Supersport class, in addition to 16-year-old Holly Harris in the Honda British Talent Cup.
The collaboration offered the young contenders mentoring and support during their campaigns throughout this season and that will be extended into 2022, as Faye strives to showcase female representation within the sport to a wider audience.
In the Hel Performance Junior Supersport Championship, Marcuzzo scored four finishes inside the top 20, with her best finish of the season coming at the season finale at Brands Hatch with 18th place. Robinson also finished within the top 20; with a 19th place at Donington Park the highlight of her year.
In the Honda British Talent Cup, part of the Road to MotoGP programme, Harris scored a best result of 16th place at Knockhill, narrowly missing a points scoring finish in her debut season in the class.
FHO Racing’s Faye Ho commented: “I was immensely proud of what all three of the girls achieved last season, especially when they had so much to learn in a short space of time. I feel that the support and guidance that we offered from the FHO Racing team will have played a pivotal role in helping them to develop their careers within the sport.
“Any form of competition always has a steep learning curve, and I am really happy that we can help in some way to nurture these riders at this early stage of their racing career, whilst also helping to raise their profile through their association with the FHO Racing BMW Superbike team.
“We are now looking forward to working together again in 2022 as we continue to strive to highlight their progression within the sport.”

CUSTOM LIVEWIRE ONE™ MOTORCYCLES DEBUT AT AUTOPIA 2099 IN LOS ANGELES
Reimagined Electric Motorcycles Launch the Future of Customization
LOS ANGELES, CA (December 9, 2021) – The customization potential of the LiveWire One™ electric motorcycle was on full display on Saturday, Dec. 4 at Autopia 2099, a new and dedicated EV event held at Optimist Studios in Los Angeles designed to showcase electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, and other mobility solutions. The event featured more than 80 vehicles, from home-built and conversion EVs to brand new cars and trucks, plus a display of what the event organizers called retrofuturism. Two custom motorcycle builders, SMCO and Earle Motors, presented the first fully customized LiveWire One motorcycles, both of which originated in Los Angeles, a city rapidly becoming LiveWire’s most successful market.
“The custom bikes showcased at Autopia make a big statement on behalf of LiveWire,” said Ryan Morrissey, Chief Electric Vehicle Officer. “Personalization has always been an element of motorcycle culture, and this weekend SMCO and Earle Motors demonstrated the customization potential of LiveWire One. These custom bikes and components are early indicators of our intent to incorporate limited edition builds and accessories into the digital bike builder on LiveWire.com.”
SMCO: LiveWire One Hooligan Racer
Brothers Aaron and Shaun Guardado started racing as young teenagers, first in shifter karts and then in high performance import cars before they turned their attention to motorcycles. They founded SMCO in 2010 to sell branded T-shirts and started building custom competition motorcycles in their Long Beach, Calif., shop to back up the brand and feed their appetite for racing and performance. Now in their mid-30s, the brothers have built serious Harley-Davidson flat trackers and performance bikes for hooligan racing, and even converted a pair of Harley-Davidson® Street Rod® motorcycles into snow bikes for a winter hill climb at the ESPN X Games.
“When we got our hands on the LiveWire One, we immediately wanted to race it,” said Aaron Guardado.
This past July, Shaun and Aaron entered a pair of LiveWire One bikes in the Roland Sands Super Hooligan Championship at the Laguna Seca race course in California. The series is open to almost any motorcycle, and for the event the bikes were stripped of lighting but were otherwise stock.
“The bikes are so fast and so much fun to ride, but we wanted to find ways to improve on that performance,” said Aaron. “We started by reducing rotating mass with a set of carbon fiber wheels from BST. Then we removed all the stock bodywork and used it to make molds for our own lightweight carbon fiber body pieces. We also designed our own rear-set foot controls to put us in a more-aggressive posture for road racing the bike.”
The SMCO race-prepped LiveWire One bikes were displayed this past weekend at Autopia in the unpainted carbon bodywork.
“This project really pushed us into some new technology,” said Aaron. “We learned to use CAD and a 3D printer to create the rear sets, for example.”
All of the carbon bodywork created by the Guardado brothers uses the stock mounting points on a LiveWire One, and if there’s interest from other owners, the parts may show up for sale in the future.

Earle Motors: E/MULHOLLAND CUSTOM
When designer Alex Earle needs to unwind, he often does it on his LiveWire One electric motorcycle.
“I’ve spent a lot of time riding off road, but I discovered the LiveWire One was the perfect stress-relief street ride,” said Earle, who teaches powersports design at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, Calif. “I live near the base of Mulholland Drive, a famous and very curvy road winding from Los Angeles up into the mountains. On weekends it’s nuts with cars and bikes, but on an evening during the week nobody is there. It’s like my private road. Unlike an internal combustion bike, the LiveWire One is quiet, and smooth, and cool. I can make a run up Mulholland, or Decker Canyon Road, stop at Old Place or the Rock Store. It’s a great escape.”
Earle Motors is more of an outlet for Earle’s creativity than it is a business, and he turned that creative design bent on his LiveWire One, in a very dramatic way.
“Initially this bike was intimidating, because it’s electric,” said Earle. “There’s no exhaust, for example, which is always an easy starting point for customization. And no fuel tank. I had two goals in mind – to consolidate the design and adjust the ergonomics for my own comfort. I want it to fit like a tailored suit.”
Earle replaced most of the bodywork with pieces of his own design, created in composite on a 3D printer, except for the “fuel tank” in front of the seat, which covers tightly packed electronics that can’t be reshaped. He removed the rear fender and lighting, and replaced the tail section with one he formed of welded steel.
“I painted the electronics cover, which looks like a fuel tank, in Synthetic Haze, a gray-to-blue fade developed during World War II to help airplanes appear less visible in the sky, which lowers the profile of the entire bike,” said Earle. “I filled in the space below that cover with a new finned piece that wraps around in front of the seat. The fins are the same shape as those on the battery case in the center of the bike.”
The part Earle removed incorporates air scoops to cool electronic components, and to replace that cooling capacity he created hollow galleries within the fins in which coolant might circulate. Two small hoses on the show bike would carry that coolant to a finned heat exchanger located between the forks. To create this part, Earle made detailed drawings, and had the entire motorcycle digitally scanned by Mimic 3D. His drawing and the scan was handed off to PROTOTYP3, a firm founded by two of his former students, who recreated it in CAD and then made the part in one piece with a 3D printer.
“It was amazing that when I got the part the holes lined up perfectly with the mounting points on the bike.” said Earle. “Right now, this is an idea, not a functional feature. I have no way of testing it, but I designed it so that I think it could be functional. The next step would be to 3D print it in aluminum.”
The lower bodywork behind the front wheel is shaped to be an air curtain to smooth flow around the battery case. Its bright orange color is meant to draw the eye down and lower the perceived profile of the bike. Earle removed the stock headlamp and its nacelle to fit three LED lights.
“The new tail section and a custom motard-style seat I designed raise the seat height several inches, which is perfect for my six-foot three-inch frame,” said Earle. “Saddlemen covered the seat in black leather, and it looks great. I also installed a chrome handlebar that’s lower than stock, chrome because it doesn’t get scuffed up when I transport the bike.”
A final custom detail can be found on a logo Earle created for a new charging port cover, which combines the number 23 – which he has always used on his competition-style customs – with an elk antler design that’s also used by the Old Place on Mulholland.
“Some of the inspiration for this project comes from my students, who show up in class with these computers they have built themselves, and they are liquid cooled,” said Earle. “People have been hot rodding motorcycles the same way for 70 years, but how will that happen in the future, when bikes are electric? How will this generation customize a bike? They can 3D print their own parts. They could liquid cool the electronics. I’m hoping this project gets on Instagram and some 17-year-old in Portugal sees it and gets a spark of inspiration. That will be the future of customization.”
Scott Russell to be Grand Marshal at 2022 Concours de Competition
World Champion Scott Russell will be returning to the WERA paddock as Grand Marshal of the 4th Annual Concours de Competition July 2 at Barber Motorsports Park. The Concours is for road race machinery of 1955- 1997 and is the only event of its kind where the machines must make a minimum number of laps at speed to qualify for the final judged round. Invitations and judging are headed up by Brian Slark of the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum. Scott will ride a 1982 KZ1000 which was raced and preserved by Sam Williams and his family and friends.
Scott Russell said of the plans, “I’m really excited to be named the Grand Marshal for the 2022 Concourse de Competition at Barber Motorsports Park! It’s also special for me to come back to my roots where it all started with WERA in the mid 80’s. The racing was so competitive in the WERA series that it really catapulted me to the big time. I’m also super happy about the opportunity to ride a Kawasaki ‘Lawson Era’ Superbike at this event. I have a special place for Kawasaki and Rob Muzzy and all the success we had together in the 90’s. Eddie was a real inspiration for me throughout my career.”
Evelyne Clark, CEO of WERA: “We are excited to welcome Scott back to the WERA paddock. We hope he will provide that same spark to our young racers that propelled him to the world championship. We are especially pleased that he will ride one of Sam Williams’ vintage race bikes. Sam had the same special love of Kawasaki that Scott has and to see the combination on track again will be wonderful.”
Jeff Ray, Executive Director of Barber Museum, “We at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum are pleased to offer our continued support for the Concours de Competition. This program encourages collectors to bring out historic racing motorcycles to not only exhibit but to put them back on the track to relive the sights and sounds of racing from another era. As part of the Concours de Competition the owners or “custodians” of these historic motorcycles will be sharing the story of these machines in the WERA paddock where exhibited. To have Scott Russell as Grand Marshal for 2022 is as exciting as the lineup of bikes that are scheduled to participate.”
Steve Delaney, owner of the ex-Sam Williams 1982 KZ1000, grew up next door to Sam and his wife Jan and their sons Eric and Andy. They all enjoyed the mutual road racing camaraderie. Delaney said, “My brother Ray was a life-long road racer and frequent endurance partner with Sam. I am delighted to keep Sam’s spirit alive and share with fellow enthusiasts a wonderful example of early-80s road racing equipment.”
Ron Raven, Concours Organizer, said, “The galleries of the Barber Museum overlook their world class track. The race bikes need to be seen at speed and heard on the track to complement those on display. This is the show where the old bikes really go.”
The event is by invitation only. If you have a race bike with history that you would display in the paddock and on the track, then contact Brian or Ron. Details are available on the Concours de Competition Facebook page and the WERA website. If you are invited there is no fee for the entrant and crew to participate.

New Start/Finish bridge, track repaving among renovations
MONTEREY, Calif., Dec. 9, 2021 – It’s already one of the premier race circuits in the world, but WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is about to get even better.
In a 4-1 super majority vote, the Monterey County Board of Supervisors yesterday adopted a resolution that green lights funding for significant renovations to take place in the next 18 months as part of the five-year Capital Improvement Program. The track surface itself will be repaved for the first time since 2007, a new Start/Finish bridge will be constructed that will provide greater pedestrian flow and allow golf cart crossings, and the Turn 3 Paddock Pavilion will see considerable enhancements.
The timeline for the projects will be confirmed in the coming weeks, but the goal remains November 2022 through April 2023. The Laguna Seca Recreation Area, which is home to the race circuit and scenic campground, is owned by the County of Monterey.
“I want to thank the supervisors and county staff who paved the way for us to begin the much-needed improvements to this world-renowned race track and recreation area for current and future generations,” said John Narigi, president and general manager of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. “The investment is a significant step toward keeping this valuable economic engine running smoothly for the benefit of residents and businesses throughout Monterey County.”
A number of business leaders, community groups and service organizations voiced their support of the improvements, which will provide the foundation for future events, and benefit tourism in Monterey County. They echoed the common sentiment that when WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is busy, all businesses – from locally owned to international chains – benefit from the increased visitation. Moreover, major sponsors added that it is important to the overall brand that there be continued upgrades and modernization to the iconic race track and facilities.
WeatherTech Raceway has a rich heritage, and hosts many of the biggest racing organizations in the United States each year. Ranging from the motorcycle racing events of MotoAmerica and AHRMA, to the technologically advanced IMSA classes to the open wheel roar of INDYCAR, the track sees plenty of topnotch action each year. The track is also home to the prestigious Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, where hundreds of historic race cars celebrate history annually.
These improvements will ensure every event at WeatherTech Raceway will remain at the highest competitive level for drivers, while also adding features that enhance the fan experience.
NEW SET-UP IN 2022 FOR WEBIKE SRC KAWASAKI FRANCE TRICKSTAR
The factory Kawaski team are going into 2022 with fresh assets: a ZX-10RR 2022 with electronics developed for endurance racing and a new rider line-up comprising Randy de Puniet, Florian Marino and Etienne Masson.
The 2018-2019 FIM EWC champions Webike SRC Kawasaki France Trickstar are revving up to go after the 2022 title. The Kawasaki #11 will have the means to fight on an equal footing with the other factory teams. Their machine will be equipped in 2022 with the same Magneti Marelli electronics as some of the top teams.
Gilles Stafler has rejigged the riders in the saddle of the 2022 factory ZX-10RR.
Randy de Puniet is making a comeback. The former MotoGP rider has already previously taken Kawasaki to the podium of the 2016 Bol d’Or and the 2017 24 Heures Motos. He was also on the second step of the 2021 Bol d’Or podium with Moto Ain.
Florian Marino has contributed over the past three seasons to the progress of the privateer team VRD Igol Experiences. Formerly a rider in the FIM Supersport championship, he will be riding with Webike SRC Kawasaki France Trickstar for the first time.
Etienne Masson is the most seasoned endurance racer of the three. He has ridden for Suzuki since 2013 and has already won three FIM world championship titles in 2015, 2016 and 2019-2020 with Suzuki Endurance Racing Team.
Randy de Puniet
“I choose to join the SRC Team because I know the team very well since Gilles recruited me in 2016 and then made two seasons in 2017 and 2018 with excellent results but unfortunately without victory. The team is very competitive, the bike is performing well and should be even better this season. My teammates are fast with a lot of experience in endurance racing. The objective is of course to fight for the victory and the championship. In a way, I’m going back home to finish writing this story!”
Etienne Masson
“This is one of the most successful teams in the paddock, not so long ago we were fighting for the world crown and it was Gilles’ team that had the last word. With a good bike and such an experienced team, I think we can start with a lot of peace of mind.”
Florian Marino
“First of all, Kawasaki reminds me of great memories. I already have a history with this brand with which I participated in the World Supersport Championship in 2013, to finish 3rd the following season. I also think there is a link because of my role (test rider) with Alex Lowes in the KRT (Kawasaki Racing Team) in World Superbike, but also because my manager, Fabien Foret, has ridden for this team in the past, with whom he has maintained a close relationship. So, I would say that this choice was rather coherent and matches a period of my career where I feel ready to join a team of this level.”
Gilles Stafler, team manager
“We will have to work fast and well. It’s a new bike with new electronics but I’ve been asking for this equipment for years, so it’s up to me to make sure it works. I’m really satisfied that Kawasaki are giving us a helping hand this year. It’s a very interesting new challenge with new riders. We should start riding after mid-January and I’m quite optimistic. The competition is making progress too and anything can happen in an endurance race, but we’ll do our best to get concrete results in 2022.”

The wildest travel dreams come true with the Ducati DesertX: a motorcycle born to enhance the adventure thrill without setting any limits
21” front wheel and 18” rear, long travel suspension and generous ground clearance: the DesertX is designed to perfectly tackle the most demanding off-road
Powered by Testastretta 11° engine, the new DesertX guarantees a comfortable, easy and safe ride in a variety of travel situations thanks to the obsessive attention to ergonomics, in-depth aerodynamic studies as well as latest-generation technological features
The new Ducati DesertX was unveiled to the public in the sixth episode of the Ducati World Première 2022
Borgo Panigale (Bologna, Italy), 9 December 2021 – In the sixth episode of the Ducati World Première 2022, the new DesertX was unveiled to all motorcycle enthusiasts.
The new DesertX is a bike with an intense off-road attitude, that effectively enlarges the boundaries of what can be done with a Ducati. Desert dunes, narrow off-road paths, gravel roads and mountainous twisties: with DesertX travellers dreams know no more limits.
Fitted with 21” front wheel and 18” rear, the new DesertX has been designed to tackle even the most demanding off-road. The specifically off-road-focused development matched with Ducati valuable road expertise give life to a responsive, easy-to-approach bike, at ease on any route and asphalt.

The DesertX project was born in 2019 when Ducati presented the eponymous concept to the public, generating a strong and positive reaction from motorcyclists around the world. This important feedback gave the Bologna-based manufacturer the decisive push to transform that concept into this functional, competent and effective motorcycle.
The design of the DesertX represents a contemporary interpretation of the lines of the Enduro motorcycles of the ‘80s, created by the Ducati Centro Stile in keeping with essentiality and robustness criteria.
The bike is visually composed of 3 macro elements: a unique volume that includes the tank and the side shields, the saddle and the windshield that embodies the distinctive double headlight and further reinforces the uniqueness of this bike. Additionally, stylistic emphasis is given by the use of black and white areas. The surfaces in contact with the rider are properly large and harmoniously connected to better support every off-road riding phase.

The chassis layout of the new Ducati DesertX includes a new steel trellis frame, which works in combination with long travel suspension with dedicated settings , to ensure effective operation even in the most demanding off-road conditions. The optimisation of all components led to an efficient bike, all packed in 202 kg (dry weight). The choices in terms of chassis make DesertX an easy bike to ride and able to give the right dose of feeling and safety on any surface. Furthermore, the new DesertX offers a great capacity to absorb road imperfections.
On suspension front, the DesertX stands out for its premium fitting. It is offered with 46 mm diameter upside-down Kayaba fork with 230 mm travel and Kayaba monoshock. Both elements are adjustable in compression, rebound and preload. The Kayaba monoshock is perfectly married to the aluminium swingarm and allows a rear wheel travel of 220 mm. In addition, the new DesertX has a generous 250 mm ground clearance, which results particularly suitable for more extreme off-road adventures.
A 2022-model Ducati DesertX adventure motorcycle at rest. Photo courtesy Ducati.
It is noteworthy that the new DesertX features unprecedented tyres size for a Ducati: 21” at the front and 18” at the rear. The original equipment tyres are the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR, 90/90-21 and 150/70 R18: the perfect choice for a brilliant all-round use of the bike. DesertX will also be homologated to fit both off and on-road-oriented tyres.
Like all Ducati motorcycles the braking system of this new bike benefits from ABS Cornering function. The front features Brembo M50 monobloc radial calipers with four 30 mm diameter pistons, axial pump with adjustable levers and double 320 mm discs with aluminium flanges. At the rear there is a single 265 mm diameter disc on which works a twin-piston floating caliper, always by Brembo. The braking power setting has been conceived to offer great modulability in off-road driving as well as on slippery surfaces, not to mention the fact that it grants the right dose of power in road use.
The ergonomics of the new DesertX have been developed over long and demanding off-road and on-asphalt test sessions. The saddle-footrest-handlebar triangulation gives its best in stand-up riding and offers a good level of comfort even on on-road riding. The result is a bike with an extremely slim fitting area and perfectly linked surfaces that guarantee the rider maximum control and handling. Saddle is 875 mm high. The combination of a particularly narrow inner leg curve and initial suspension compliance ensures good contact with the ground. The saddle height can still be reduced by means of a lowered saddle (available as an accessory) and can be further lowered thanks to an ad hoc kit.
A 2022-model Ducati DesertX adventure motorcycle at rest. Photo courtesy Ducati.
Ducati technicians have also worked hard on a full suite of contents, that make DesertX a true enjoyable tool on every road. The riding position, for example, results even more comfortable for rider and passenger alike, thanks to the definition of shape and padding targeted for each of the two seats. Heat management is studied in detail with openings and flows of fresh air whilst aerodynamic protection is ensured by the great care taken in defining the shape and size of the original windshield and the even more protective accessory one.
Proper range to face longer journeys is guaranteed by the fuel tank with over 21 l of capacity and thus offering the opportunity of mounting a second tank (available as accessory) in the rear area, adding further 8 l of fuel. Fuel transfer from the rear to the front tank is enabled when the fuel level in the main tank falls below a certain level and can be activated from the dashboard.
DesertX also has an excellent load capacity, almost 120 l of volume available including bags and aluminium top case. The specific choice of tubeless tyres is functional to the journey and to safety. It allows a combination of greater reliability, greater safety in the event of a puncture and easier repair.
The admired 937 cc liquid-cooled Testastretta 11° Desmodromic valvetrain engine is the heart of the new DesertX. Characterized by an excellent reliability, this engine delivers 110 hp at 9,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 92 Nm at 6,500 rpm* in Euro5 configuration.
Solid Ducati performance is combined with regular and always manageable delivery, providing the rider with a bike capable of tackling any route with great confidence. The engine can count on all the improvements already seen on the Monster and Multistrada V2, including the extremely light and compact 8-disc clutch and the gearbox equipped with a geardrum mounted on bearings to reduce friction and improve precision and smoothness while shifting. This contributes also to a reduction of the total weight of the engine of 1.7 kg compared to the previous version.
To offer the best performance in off-road riding and in various uses, the Testastretta 11° has been specifically optimised. In fact, the gearbox has different dedicated ratios with respect to those of the Multistrada V2. As a matter of fact the ratios have been shortened overall on all gears up to fifth, to ensure the best off-road behaviour. First and second gears, in particular, are much shorter, in order to facilitate the low-speed driving phases of certain difficult passages typical of off-road use. Sixth gear is properly long to facilitate highway handling while maintaining low engine speeds; this means a contained fuel consumption and an increased level of comfort.
A special mention is deserved by state-of-the-art electronic systems, which offer first-rate performance and safety also in terms of rider aids. New DesertX in fact comes with 6 Riding Modes working in combination with 4 Power Modes – Full, High, Medium, Low – that modify the power and responsiveness of the Testastretta engine. The main new features are specific settings for the Enduro Riding Mode and the introduction of the new Rally Riding Mode, in addition to Sport, Touring, Urban and Wet.
To be precise, the Enduro Riding Mode, thanks to the reduced power and the specially designed control settings, allows the rider to tackle the most demanding dirt roads with greater safety and makes it easier for less experienced users to ride off-road. The Rally Riding Mode, on the other hand, with full engine power and reduced electronic controls, is designed for more experienced riders who want to make the most of DesertX’s off-road performance.
Each Riding Mode, also thanks to the presence of the Bosch IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), can change the character of the bike according to the rider’s input, by acting on the intervention levels of the various electronic controls: Engine Brake Control (EBC), Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) Up & Down and ABS Cornering.
ABS Cornering, in particular, can be set on 3 levels to be able to adapt to whatever situation and rider skill. In the Riding Modes dedicated to off-road (Enduro and Rally), ABS Cornering can also be completely deactivated via the switch cube with a specific button.
The dashboard of the DesertX, vertically oriented and positioned to offer clear information also in stand-up riding, features a high resolution 5” full-TFT colour display. The instrumentation is predispose to integrate the Ducati Multimedia System which allows the rider to connect the phone, thus activating new functions such as music and incoming/outgoing calls or Turn-by-Turn navigation** (optional), which displays directions directly on the dashboard.
The rider is offered the opportunity to choose between two as-standard Info Modes: Standard and Rally. The Standard option provides for all the road information: tachometer and speedometer are clearly visible, as well as the engaged gear, fuel level and other useful journey information. The trip master function is part of the Rally Info Mode. This simulates the operation of the trip master used in rally motorcycles and allows to manually adjust the odometer indication, using the buttons on the left switch cube.
Premium technological features are also represented by the lighting system, which is full LED . The double front headlight has two twin-function poly-ellipsoidal modules with Daytime Running Light (DRL) and has been designed to ensure excellent visibility, particularly important for a motorcycle capable of travelling in all conditions. The rear light is equipped with the Ducati Brake Light, a particular system that, in the event of sudden braking, automatically activates the flashing of the rear light to alert the following vehicles, a solution that further improves rider’s safety.
Such multi-faceted motorcycle can be further customised by the riders according to their own spirit and mood by drawing on the broad range of Ducati Performance accessories . Among the most appealing items: the rally saddle, which marries the rider and passenger seats for greater effectiveness in off-road activities, and the additional 8-l tank. Touring experience can be further improved with the aluminum side panniers which, combined with the top case, give the bike a total load capacity amount of 117 l, additional LED spotlights, central stand and heated grips. Termignoni exhausts are also available, both homologated and racing. The latter increases the values of power and torque of +7% thanks to the dedicated mapping.
Ducati DesertX intense character deserved a special homage. That’s why the Ducati Centro Stile designed, for the first time, a dedicated capsule collection that takes up the livery of the bike. An outstanding line inspired by the iconic “Dakarian style” and named 21/18, a celebrative tribute to this bike’s tyres size. The technical suit includes jacket, trousers and helmet and will be available in a limited edition. Part of this exclusive collection is a range of lifestyle apparel, specifically designed for this model, consisting of a sweatshirt, two T-shirts and a cap.
The DesertX will be available at dealerships in the Ducati network starting from May 2022. The motorcycles will also be available in a depowered version for A2 license holders. The Bologna-based motorcycle company offers the exclusive “4Ever Ducati” warranty, valid for 4 years with unlimited mileage that relies on the service offered by the entire network of dealers***.
The video-presentation of the new DesertX can be viewed on the Ducati YouTube channel. Star of this exciting video is five-time Enduro world champion Antoine Meo, who had the pleasure of appreciating the excellent potential of this bike at the Fossil Rock in the Sharjah Desert of the United Arab Emirates.

Editorial Note: To learn more about all of the activities being planned in Italy to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Moto Guzzi co-founder, aviation pioneer, and entrepreneur Giorgio Parodi, go HERE. Scroll to the bottom to see the music video referenced in the press release. This event was originally scheduled for 2021 to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Moto Guzzi’s founding, but was delayed by restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The GP Days organization has restarted, the days dedicated to Giorgio Parodi are scheduled for the 13/14/15th May 2022. The program has been constantly enriched, and it promises to be full of events not to be missed.
A Genoese Street food and stalls day will open this extraordinary event near Parodi’s statue, in the historic district of Carignano, where the (Moto Guzzi) foundation act was signed on the 15th of March 1921. Organized by CIV (Centro Integrato di Via) [an organization of business owners] and Moto Guzzi Association Genova, all ‘Guzzisti’ will appreciate delicious typical delicacies, enjoying the enchanting city view from Via Mura delle Cappuccine, heritage of the city, dating back to the sixteenth century.
“Great enthusiasm and satisfaction for Carignano CIV that will open this pleasant and tasteful event for Genoa and most of all for Carignano, where Moto Guzzi was born,” said Marco Iacono, local CIV President who with Andrea Pesce, President of AMGGe will welcome at their best all the participating “eagles.”
The same satisfaction was expressed by Dr. Mauro Ferrando, president of the ‘Porto Antico S.p.A.’ The company has hosted, in its own areas, the singer and song writer Danilo Luce for the shooting of the music video “Crazy for Guzzi.”
“Contributing to the success of the GP Days, so awaited by fans from all over the world, is something we are very proud of,” said Dr. Ferrando. “The video-clip is a further opportunity to spread a positive image of the city, with our Aquarium and the Great Bigo, framing the motorbikes with the golden eagle, queens of the international motorcycle meeting with numerous enthusiasts from all over the world.”
Restart for the 100 motorcycles selected by ASI as well, which thanks to Veteran Car Club Ligure, will be exhibited in the central Piazza De Ferrari. On Saturday morning, May 14, they will leave Istituto Giannina Gaslini [the largest pediatric hospital in northern Italy], after meeting and greeting many little patients, to reach Recco City and Santa Margherita Ligure City, and finally the famous Piazzetta in Portofino, the most desired destination for every tourist.
“The world of enthusiasts appreciates the commitment and sensitivity of the Genoese and Ligurian Institutions towards an extraordinary figure as Giorgio Parodi was. ASI is proud to collaborate again with (the) Giorgio Parodi Association to keep alive the memory of such a prominent person for Italian motorsport. In 2021, we were penalized by the pandemic related emergency, but this year, we really hope to celebrate on our beloved Guzzi,” declared Alberto Scuro, ASI President.
“It’s a great satisfaction for all (members of the) Ligurian Veteran Car Club, to represent a region that has given so much through its fellow citizen, Giorgio Parodi, founder of Moto Guzzi,” said Mauro Milano, President of Ligurian Veteran Car Club.

Approaching to the most awaited appointments in 2022, (the) Giorgio Parodi Association has launched a new initiative which will lead golden eagle lovers to visit the most significant places of the Genoese founder’s passionate life through the Italian territory. A first stop will visit Roncole Verdi, the author of “Peppone and Don Camillo” and Giorgio’s great friend, in Giovannino Guareschi’s museum. All Guzzisti will then continue towards the famous “Officina Guareschi,” the dream of every biker and true expression of the Italian excellence of this sector.
Each participant will get a “GP Passport” which will be “enriched” on every occasion foreseen by the GP Tour, a very special memory for all who will follow Giorgio’s tracks in unique locations across Italy. Also thanks to the collaboration with Travel Desk, the agency which will logistically support with dedicated offers, they we will be certainly joined by other associations, such as Genoa Italian Air Force Veteran Association and Guzzi clubs.
Waiting for the next tour that will be around mid-March 2022, we suggest keeping informed on the website www.giorgioparodi.it, where the whole calendar will be published.

A 2022-model Ducati DesertX adventure motorcycle in action. Photo courtesy Ducati.
A 2022-model Ducati DesertX adventure motorcycle at rest. Photo courtesy Ducati.

Compliance status
We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience,
regardless of circumstance and ability.
To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level.
These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible
to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.
This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific
disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.
Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML,
adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.
If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email
Screen-reader and keyboard navigation
Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with
screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive
a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements,
alongside console screenshots of code examples:
Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website.
In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels;
descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups),
and others. Additionally, the background process scans all the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag
for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology.
To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on
as soon as they enter the website.
These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside it.
Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.
Disability profiles supported in our website
Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.
Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments
Font adjustments – users, can increase and decrease its size, change its family (type), adjust the spacing, alignment, line height, and more.
Color adjustments – users can select various color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted, and monochrome. Additionally, users can swap color schemes of titles, texts, and backgrounds, with over seven different coloring options.
Animations – person with epilepsy can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.
Browser and assistive technology compatibility
We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers).
Notes, comments, and feedback
Despite our very best efforts to allow anybody to adjust the website to their needs. There may still be pages or sections that are not fully accessible, are in the process of becoming accessible, or are lacking an adequate technological solution to make them accessible. Still, we are continually improving our accessibility, adding, updating and improving its options and features, and developing and adopting new technologies. All this is meant to reach the optimal level of accessibility, following technological advancements. For any assistance, please reach out to
