WSBK: Fuel Flow Adjustment for BMW and Ducati

After the latest Concession Checkpoint (Checkpoint 3), the FIM has determined that both BMW and Ducati have exceeded the performance threshold defined in Article 2.4.3.2 of the regulations. As a result, both manufacturers will now face a revised Fuel Flow penalty.

In accordance with the newly introduced linear penalty algorithm (in place since Checkpoint 2), BMW’s and Ducati’s Performance Threshold values have surpassed the limit, triggering an increased fuel flow restriction. Specifically, both manufacturers will now receive a Fuel Flow Limit penalty of 1.5 kg/h, raised from the previous 1.0 kg/h, reflecting a stronger overperformance relative to the balanced field.

Fuel Flow Meter Pump. Photo courtesy WorldSBK.

The updated system replaces the former step-based model with a proportional, continuous scale of penalisation, with penalties applied linearly between -0.250 and -1.000:

  • Minimum penalty (-0.250): 0.5 kg/h
  • Maximum penalty (-1.000): 1.5 kg/h
  • Formula: Fuel Flow Penalty = Performance Threshold × 1.5

These penalties are cumulative and remain in place unless recovered through improved relative performance, as defined in the same article.

BoP Update for Yamaha in Supersport Next Generation

In the Supersport World Championship, Yamaha’s performance over the last six rounds has been consistently above the competitive average. Following the mid-season review as per Article 2.5.3.1 – Balancing Calculation, and in light of the manufacturer’s recent swingarm update request, the FIM has taken further balancing measures.

Effective from the Donington Park round this coming weekend, the Yamaha YZF-R9’s hard minimum weight will be increased by 5 kg, moving from 161 kg to 166 kg. The updated BoP parameters are as follows:

Brand Hard Minimum Weight Soft Maximum Combined Bike & Rider Minimum*
Yamaha YZF-R9 166 kg 175 kg 244 kg

This adjustment is made in accordance with Article 2.5.3 – Balancing Various Motorcycle Concepts and is aligned with Yamaha’s agreement to accept future technical modifications if any performance gain was observed post swingarm change. Despite the unchanged engine performance figures, overall competitiveness improvement necessitated this revision.

WorldSBK : Bulega Heads Friday Practice In England

Nicolò Bulega led FIM Superbike World Championship Free Practice Two (FP2) Friday afternoon at Donington Park, in England. Riding his Aruba. It Racing – Ducati Panigale V4R on spec Pirelli tires, the Italian rider covered the 2.50-mile (4.02 km) track in 1:26.342 to lead the field of 24 riders.

His countryman, Danilo Petrucci was second-best with a 1:26.523 on his Barni Spark Racing Ducati Panigale V4R.

American Garrett Gerloff was 5th with a time of 1:26.624 on his Kawasaki ZX-10RR.

Results WSBK FP2

More from a press release issued by Dorna:

Up and Down day: Bulega tops Friday WorldSBK running despite FP2 crash, Razgatlioglu fifth. Points leader Bulega crashed at the Foggy Esses which disrupted his running, but he was still able to claim P1 in both FP2 and overall.

Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) topped the timesheets on Friday in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship despite a crash in the afternoon session at the Foggy Esses. The Championship leader set a 1’26.342s to claim P1 ahead of Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) as the opening day of the Prosecco DOC UK Round concluded with a dramatic Free Practice 2 session at Donington Park.

Bulega Top Despite Crash: ‘Bulegas’ leads the way

Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) finished second in FP1 and was fastest in the early stages of FP2 with a 1’26.342s, but he crashed at the Foggy Esses right after he set that lap time which disrupted his session although his bike did make it back to pitlane after ‘Bulegas’ was able to restart it. Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) has always gelled with Donington and was third overall on Friday, only 0.181s off Bulega’s pace. Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) claimed fourth overall with a 1’26.591s with Scott Redding (MGM BONOVO Action) enjoying his best Friday since Australia with seventh, and rookie Ryan Vickers (Motocorsa Racing) claiming eighth. Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) was 11th as he struggled on Friday, although he did find time compared to FP1, while Andrea Iannone (Team Pata GoEleven) and Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) were 12th and 13th respectively.

Lowes Fastest In FP1: quick from the off, Bassani crashes in FP2

Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) topped FP1 in the morning as he got his home round off to a flying start, while he was also quick in FP2. The #22 was the highest-placed rider to not improve his time in FP2 but he was able to finish third in the combined times. Teammate Axel Bassani had a tricky morning, finishing in 17th place, and his FP2 got off to a bad start when he crashed at Turn 7 with his KB998 Rimini tumbling through the gravel. Despite only completing one flying lap in FP2, Bassani was 16th in the combined times.

Fifth For Razgatlioglu: not improving his time in FP2

Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) is aiming to make it 10 wins at Donington this weekend and started off with P5 in the combined classification, leading BMW’s charge as he finished only behind Bulega. ‘El Turco’ set a 1’26.592s in FP1, Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) finished the day in 14th after posting a 1’27.045s, but his time was only seven tenths away from Bulega in what was a closely-contested Friday at Donington.

Gerloff Rapid At Donington: a top six for the Texan

Garrett Gerloff (Kawasaki WorldSBK Team) has made steps on his ZX-10RR machine in recent rounds and that seemed to continue at Donington, with the #31 inside the top ten in Free Practice 1 and kept that pace going in FP2. He set a 1’26.624s to finish sixth in the combined standings, less than three tenths off Bulega’s pace.

Two Bikes In The Top10: Locatelli leads Yamaha charge

Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha) was ninth as he claimed lead Yamaha honours on Friday, finishing with a 1’26.903s. He was directly ahead of Dominique Aegerter (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) in tenth with the Swiss rider putting in an impressive time to lap within a couple of hundredths of ‘Loka’. Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) finished the day in 15th place with Jonathan Rea (Pata Maxus Yamaha) in 17th; the #65 was less than eight tenths away from Bulega’s time and two tenths away from his teammate. Bahattin Sofuoglu (Yamaha Motoxracing WorldSBK Team) was 21st with teammate Michael Rinaldi a tenth behind in 22nd.

Honda Stuggle On Friday: a lot of work to do

All five Hondas on the grid at Donington could be found 18th or lower. Iker Lecuona (Honda HRC) was the fastest of the group after setting a 1’27.189s for P18, with wildcard Tommy Bridewell (Honda Racing UK) a tenth away from the Spaniard in 19th. Lecuona’s teammate, Xavi Vierge, was 20th. Tito Rabat (PETRONAS MIE Honda Racing Team), on his first appearance for the MIE Honda squad, was 23rd with Ivo Lopes (PETRONAS MIE Honda Racing Team) rounding out the WorldSBK field.

MotoGP : Di Giannantonio Cracks lap record In Germany

Fabio Di Giannantonio led MotoGP World Championship practice Friday afternoon at Sachsenring, in Germany. Riding his Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team Ducati Desmosedici GP25 on spec Michelin tires, the Italian turned a lap time of 1:19.071. Not only was that good enough to lead the 20-rider field, it was also good enough to eclipse Jorge Martin’s 2024 All-Time Lap Record of 1:19.423.

Alex Marquez was the best of the rest with a 1:19.408 on his BK8 Gresini Ducati Desmosedici GP24.

Marc Marquez, the current World Championship point leader, was third at 1:19.461 on his Lenovo Ducati Desmosedici GP25.

Fabio Quartararo finished the session fourth with a 1:19.524 on his Monster Energy Yamaha YZR-M1.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pedro Acosta got fifth with a lap time of 1:19.560.

More from a press release issued by Dorna:

Di Giannantonio and Alex Marquez dethrone Marc Marquez on Friday. The VR46 Italian sets a new Sachsenring lap record to lead the championship top two on Day 1, as Yamaha and KTM pocket top five Practice results.

Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) fastest at the Sachsenring? Not today. That accolade went the way of Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) after the Italian clocked an outstanding new all-time lap record to lead the MotoGP field by a whopping three tenths. That 1:19.071 was a belter and the closest challenger to it was Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) despite the #73 nursing his left hand fracture, a phenomenal effort from the Spaniard, as Marc Marquez is forced to settle for P3 in Practice.

A SLICE OF EARLY DRAMA FOR BEZ

Less than 10 minutes into Practice, Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) suffered a tip off at the final corner to get his session off to a far from ideal start. Meanwhile, it was Marc Marquez sitting at the summit after the first 20 minutes, the #93 was 0.191s clear of second place Di Giannantonio.

THE FIGHT FOR Q2

The top two stayed the same as we approached the final 20 minutes, with Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) provisional P3 ahead of Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) and and Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol). However, we were yet to see a flurry of soft tyre time attacks come in, so we strapped ourselves in for a busy end to Friday. The usual state of play for a MotoGP Friday afternoon.

There was a small crash for Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) at Turn 1 and shortly after, Marc Marquez ran on at the same part of the circuit briefly after enduring a big moment coming up the hill at Turn 10. An eventful end to a seamless middle stint in Practice for the championship leader.

With 13 minutes to go, Acosta set a 1:19.843 to go 0.031s behind Marc Marquez, as Miguel Oliveira (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) climbed to P5. A lap later, Acosta improved again and this time, it was good enough to knock Marc Marquez off top spot – a 1:19.772 was now the benchmark.

Acosta and KTM’s time at the top didn’t last very long though. Marc Marquez, with fresh rear Michelin soft rubber, sailed back to P1 to lead Di Giannantonio and Jack Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP). Marc Marquez and Di Giannantonio went quicker again on their second efforts, the gap between the leading duo was 0.128s with nine minutes left.

When he needed it, walking wounded Alex Marquez fired in a 1:19.649 to slot himself into the top three. That was a cracking effort, and surely that was enough to book his place into the top 10?

P3 was then Bezzecchi’s as the Italian responded to his early crash in fine style, but then another Italian was third quickest as Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) rose up the order. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) was on a flyer though and soon enough, the Dutch GP polesitter was P2, 0.063s away from Marc Marquez, as Acosta then rejoined the top three party with three minutes to go.

Before the close of play, we had two more changes. First, Alex Marquez beat his brother and title rival, but then Di Giannantonio cooked up that phenomenal, table-topping time to head into Saturday as the rider to beat – and by some distance too. What a session for the Italian, and it’s was equally impressive stuff by Alex Marquez to earn P2 following his injury woes in Assen.

THE AUTOMATIC Q2 CONTENDERS

Quartararo ended Friday in P4 ahead of Acosta and Yamaha and KTM stick their noses inside the top five in Germany. Morbidelli was sixth quickest ahead of Bezzecchi and Miller, the Aussie making sure two YZR-M1s are into Q2, as Bagnaia holds onto a top 10 place in P9 ahead of Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing).

COMING UP: QUALI AND THE TISSOT SPRINT

So it’s Di Giannantonio who acts as the rider to be so far in Germany, but we’re expecting the weather to now play a leading role in proceedings. You don’t want to miss any of Saturday’s action at the Sachsenring.

MotoGP Practice results from the Sachsenring!

Moto2 : Vietti Breaks Record At Sachsenring

Celestino Vietti led Moto2 World Championship practice Friday afternoon at Sachsenring, in Germany. Riding his Folladore SpeedRS Team Boscoscuro on Pirelli control tires, the Italian lapped the 2.28-mile (3.67 km) road course in 1:22.329, topping the field of 28 riders and breaking Somkiat Chantra’s All-Time Lap Record of 1:22.698 from 2024.

Senna Agius was second-best with a time of 1:22.459 on his LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP Kalex. His teammate, Manuel Gonzalez did a third-fastest 1:22.606.

American Joe Roberts finished Friday afternoon’s practice session 8th with a best time of 1:22.838 on his OnlyFans American Racing Team Kalex.

More, from a press release issued by Dorna:

Vietti ends Friday on top in Moto2™ as Championship contenders head for Q1. Relentless and intense, the Sachsenring doesn’t give an inch – neither at the top or bottom of the standings.

The sun continued to beat down for Moto2™ at the Sachsenring and leaving it late, Celestino Vietti (Folladore SpeedRS Team) put Boscoscuro on top on Friday in Germany. The Italian set the lap time in the closing minutes, rocketing up the order and disrupting the Kalex party at the front. Elsewhere and there were headlining names who found themselves mired down the field and will have the added pressure of graduating from Q1 on Saturday.

A strong session for Vietti, who fired himself into P1 with around five minutes left on the clock. His 1’22.329 was enough to beat Senna Agius (LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP) by 0.130s; improving in the final seven minutes and with a new contract in his back pocket for 2026, Agius was in good form and went top provisionally, in the end finishing in P2 ahead of his Championship-leading teammate Manuel Gonzalez, who was 0.147s further adrift and not fully at one with his Kalex.

Marcos Ramirez (OnlyFans American Racing Team) had a solid session to finish up in P4, guaranteeing his slot in Q2. Aron Canet (Fantic Racing Lino Sonego) clinched fifth at the flag, just 0.049s ahead of a very impressive Ayumu Sasaki (RW – Idrofoglia Racing GP), the best we’ve seen of the Japanese rider in 2025, finishing in P6.

Filip Salac (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) had a small tip off at Turn 1 whilst he was ay the top of the timesheets; he was able to walk away and get back to his box, ending his day in 7th. Further down and there was drama for three of the top five riders in the Championship standings. Assen winner Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team), Jake Dixon (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) and Barry Baltus (Fantic Racing Lino Sonego) all find themselves in Q1 having finished 16th, 17th and 18th respectively. In P15, Yuki Kunii (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) missed out by just 0.050s and will be looking to get into Q1 with the big names too.

The top six from Friday at Donington, full results here:
