The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) held its second round of Lightweight Sprint grids, and the first round of the CMRA Championship Endurance and US National Endurance Series this past Saturday, March 19, bringing over 10 hours of racing action to Texas World Speedway, in College Station, Texas. High winds overnight brought the temperature down to a chilly 50 degrees, making the track slippery and green.

The Mini Sprint grids ran on the 1.8-mile short course, while the Lightweight Sprints ran on the 2.9 mile long course to kick off Saturday’s racing action. The 500 Superstock combined grid and 500 Superbike combined grid each had 30 plus entries, and the Honda/Four81 Motos Grom Challenge combined grid had 19.

The 8-Hour Championship Endurance/US National Endurance Series finished out the day with a combined grid of 24 teams, including the Remember Brooks Gremmels – A Superbike/ Heavyweight, Promomin/eni C- Superbike/Middleweight, Formula 2/Lightweight, Modern Classic/Super Dinosaur, and C Superstock Endurance classes. The 24 mph winds with strong gusts and chilly conditions made some parts treacherous on the 2.9-mile course.

As the start lights went out, heavy traffic came together for an exciting out lap. As the pack shook itself out, Just Can’t Quit Racing, Team HPC and the Village Idiots were all in battle for the lead. The Village Idiots team of Cory Burleson, Chris Headley, John Orchard, and Garet Tomlinson got the upper hand aboard their Yamaha YZF-R6, with the Just Can’t Quit Racing team of Pete Martins, Ron Mears, Craig Montgomery, and Jeff Wrobel in second on their Suzuki GSX-R1000, and Team HPC riders Bobby Davies, Doug Frenchak, Nathaniel Orona, and Will Zamora in third on their Yamaha YZF-R6.

The Village Idiots were a well oiled machine, and held their lead, stretching it to 3 laps by the end of hour 4, while the Yamaha YZF-R6 LocoMotion team of Brandon Altmeyer, Alonzo Contreras, Ryan Max Johnson, and Mark Windham got around Team HPC and Just Can’t quit for second. The Davis Rod & Cycle/LSTD team of Jesse Davis, Andy Galindo, Will Gruy, Alan Phillips, David Tiede aboard a Yamaha YZF-R1 also sliced through traffic and held onto third.

Going into the last hours of the race, Davis Rod & Cycle continued to hold off Team HPC, while Just Can’t Quit had their hands full with the Yamaha YZF-R6 mounted teams of Privateer Tools and The Skidmarks. The Village Idiots continued to stretch their lead to four laps heading into the final hour of the race.

When the clock zeroed out, the Village Idiots took the overall and C Superbike/ Middleweight win. LocoMotion took second overall and second in C Superbike/ Middleweight. Davis Rod & Cycle/LSTD took third overall and first in A Superbike / Heavyweight. Team HPC finished four laps behind them with fourth overall and second in A Superbike / Heavyweight. Privateer Tools riders Ulug Bayramoglu, Steve Ebeling, Ben Gooding, Kory Pappas, and Mark Sneed pulled into fifth overall and third in C Superbike/ Middleweight, with The Skidmarks team of Chase Eason, Brady Ipock, Steve Nedd, Jay Newton, and Brian Prescott rounding out the top six overall and fourth in C Superbike/ Middleweight.

The Red Bull Mini Moto races ran after the conclusion of the endurance race, and had a turnout of 15-two person teams. Racing was competitive and the team of Doug Frenchak and Dolph McVicker came out on top, taking the overall win and the coveted Austin Moto GP tickets.
