Team Sheriff Racing Program Expands To Include ‘Posse’ Of Reformed Street Racers

In response to our street racing intervention efforts, Team Sheriff Racing has received an overwhelming number of inquiries from teens and young adults expressing their desire to become more involved in the program. Most of these individuals are former street racers who have changed their ways and made a commitment to race in a safe and legal manner, by taking their machines to the track. These reformed street racers have expressed a deep desire to share with others their experiences and help educate them about the dangers of illegal street racing. As a result, Team Sheriff Racing is very pleased to announce the creation of the Team Sheriff Racing Posse. Until now, Team Sheriff Racing members have all been Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs. But now, following the time honored traditions of the “Sheriff and his posse”, the Team Sheriff Racing Posse will be comprised of volunteers; those reformed street racers who have changed their ways, made the commitment to race the safe and legal way, and have the desire to assist us in our mission of street racing intervention by helping to educate others. “Over the years, we’ve had many inquiries by racers and individuals who have wanted to help. With the creation of the Motorcycle Division and our increased street racing intervention efforts, we’ve had the number of these inquiries increase. Until now, Team Sheriff Racing has been solely comprised of Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs.”, said Team Captain Deputy Bill Chaffin. “But after we did a lot of brainstorming, Mike came up with the idea of the Posse.” “Throughout history, the Sheriff has always had a Posse that was made up of civilian members of the community that assisted the Sheriff at his will, so it naturally seemed like a good fit to follow suit.” Said Deputy Mike Churney, Director of the team’s Motorcycle Division, “This will allow those individuals that want to get involved to help us, give them a positive direction in which to focus their energies, while also giving them the recognition they deserve for doing the right thing.” Because Team Sheriff Racing (TSR) Posse members will serve as ambassadors of the team, as well as role models for others, Posse members will be required to commit themselves to obeying all laws, team regulations and rules of conduct, and conduct themselves in a manner which upholds the finest traditions of the team in order to maintain their membership in good standing. All posse members will be required to hold and maintain a valid racing license with a sanctioned racing body. Additionally, those members 18 years old and younger will be required to have parental consent and maintain a minimum scholastic GPA of 3.0. The TSR Posse is open to anyone, with a minimum age of 16. Applicants will undergo an application and screening process. For more information on becoming a member of the TSR Posse, or to become a sponsor of the Posse, log on to www.sheriffsracing.com or email Deputy Mike Churney at [email protected].
