TEAM JAMOKE LEGIT DRONE STRIKE WINS CRA 3 HOUR TEAM CHALLENGE, SCHMIDT WINS 8 SPRINTS

The Central Roadracing Association’s 2014 season reached its halfway point over July 18-20, when the club ran its 3 hour team challenge on Brainerd International Raceway’s 2.5 mile Competition Course. The team challenge featured 21 teams in GP2, GP3, and GP4 categories, allowing team members to run different bikes in the three hour relay-style endurance.

GP4 team Jamoke Legit Drone Strike led most the event, but GP3 teams Last Minute Racing and Team Worldwide took turns leading the field. In the race’s last twenty minutes, an unforeseen downpour caused shuffling throughout the running order. Considering the clear forecast, most teams did not have rain tires mounted, forcing many to finish the event on slicks or DOT’s. Making the most of the multiple-bike event, Team Worldwide was one of the few teams that finished the race on rain tires. Team Worldwide rider Kris Skellenger moved up 3 positions in the last 10 laps, turning lap times almost 30 seconds faster than the leader. Despite finishing on the same lap as Team Jamoke Drone Strike, Worldwide’s last minute charge was only good enough for second place. GP2 team Hold My Baby ran extended stints to compete with front runners and finish third overall, while GP3 team Schmotterado overcame a pit lane speed infraction to come in fourth overall.

With club front runners Kaleb DeKeyrel and Scott Stall missing from CRA action, Pat Stewart and John Staska stepped up to challenge Bell Helmet racer Shane Keaveny throughout the weekend’s Unlimited sprints. Keaveny took the Supersport and Superbike wins, but Stewart capitalized on a late race mistake in the Grand Prix sprint to take the last win of the weekend.

Saturday’s Michelin Supersport Sprint races saw expert Brian Hebeisen take the weekend’s first win over Christian Schmidt and Kurt Schuschke in the Middleweight class. The 600 class saw plenty wheel to wheel battling all weekend throughout the grid, with Justin Ebnet taking the Middleweight Superbike win, and Schmidt taking the top step in the Grand Prix event. Aaron Anderson swept the Heavyweight expert class wins on his Suzuki GSX-R 750.

Harry Jensen continued his impressive novice class campaign, riding his Ducati 848 Superbike to take wins in the novice Middleweight Superbike and Grand Prix sprints, as well as the Heavyweight Superbike sprint. Jake Hawthorne, Jonathon Schwartz, Aaron Duchon, and Josh Auel also made strides to the front of the novice field and battled all weekend, with Auel taking the Michelin Supersport Heavyweight win, and Hawthorne and Schwartz taking their first wins in the Grand Prix Heavyweight and Michelin Supersport Middleweight sprints.

After Jon Champ had an uncharacteristic crash in turn 8 during the Michelin Supersport sprint, Christian Schmidt took all three expert Lightweight wins on his Supersport Suzuki SV650 and destroked 580cc Yamaha YZF-R6 Superbike, locally referred to as an “R5”. Finally back from injury, Luke Trombley made his 2014 race debut and returned to the front of the Novice Lightweight pack, where he split class wins with Dave Pederson.

While Trevor Treviranus and Christian Schmidt swept the Novice and Expert Ultralight sprints, the two ran wheel to wheel all weekend, with Treviranus taking the overall win in the Superbike sprint. Expert Mark Dargis and Novice Bryan Lachmiller swept the Ninja 250 class wins. Max Furman led the weekend’s rookies in the New Rider race.

The CRA will hold its next event from August 22-24, when a dual sprint format will be run on Brainerd International Raceway’s 2.5 mile Competition Course. The club will host its final New Rider School on August 22. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to direct questions to [email protected]

More, from a press release issued by Team Jamoke Legit Drone Strike:

Team Jamoke Legit Drone Strike wins CRA 3hr endurance race at Brained Int’l Raceway!

Not even the Mosquitos were biting as hard as the Dunlop tires provided by Jim Wiles and Dunlop during the CRA 3hr endurance race Saturday afternoon at BIR. The 3 rider team of Shane Keveney, Aaron Anderson, and Tony Mahto set a feverish pace all afternoon to take the win. With 25 mins to go, and a 3 lap lead, the skies opened up for one last challenge of the day. Lead rider Anderson rode through a monsoon on a Dunlop front slick to take the victory.

The team would like to thank Dunlop and Bell helmets for their support.

The team would also like to thank our family and friends for all the help in pits, as we could not have done it without you.
