MotoAmerica Superbike: Scheibe Racing Adds Jake Lewis For Road America

Scheibe Racing announced earlier this year plans to field previous AMA Superbike Champion Josh Herrin on its BMW S1000RR in the 2020 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship, and now Roadracingworld.com has learned that Schiebe Racing will have Jake Lewis on a second BMW for the races at Road America.

“We just pieced everything together in the last couple of days, so everything’s still new and fresh, but I’m really excited,” 24-year-old Lewis told Roadracingworld.com Tuesday, adding that the right wrist he fractured prior to the Daytona 200 has now fully healed.

Scheibe Racing is owned by Steve Scheibe, the former head of Harley-Davidson’s VR1000 Superbike development and racing program and more recently the engineer behind the Hayes brake calipers found fitted as original equipment on some new BMW models, including the 2020 S1000RR.

Based in Wisconsin, Scheibe considers Road America his home track. And with many of Scheibe’s sponsors, engineering colleagues, and racing friends based locally, he’s always enjoyed extra resources and incentives when racing at Road America.

So, when it began to look like MotoAmerica would be able to start its 2020 season with not one but two rounds at Road America, Scheibe said he decided to put his spare BMW S1000RR Superbike into action.

“Road America fits our bike well,” Scheibe told Roadracingworld.com. “And there’s so many people who have been involved with the team in the area who want to be involved.

“So, when I saw it was the first two events of the year and realized all of that, I thought if there’s ever a chance to swing for the fences it’s now and here. So that’s what I’m doing.

“Plus, I saw Jake was available, and he belongs on our grid as a Superbike rider.

“It felt like the right thing to do. If it works out and turns into something bigger, great.”

The chance of Scheibe Racing doing something significant is better than ever considering it has never fielded two riders, who can share information and push each other and their BMWs to higher levels.

“That’s another thing I’m really excited about,” said Lewis. “I feel like having a teammate is always beneficial. We’re going to be on the same stuff, and we can push each other and help each other and the team.”
