Mazda Raceway’s Turkey Trot Raises $3,505 for Food Bank for Monterey County

MONTEREY, Calif. – More than 300 Good Samaritans braved cold temperatures and gave up their Thanksgiving morning to help raise $3,505 and grocery bags full of canned and dry goods for the Food Bank for Monterey County.

The fourth annual Turkey Trot raised more than $400 above last year’s record total. Each participant donated $10 to make as many laps as they desired, by foot power only, on the 11-turn 2.238-mile road course. Participants included individuals, couples, groups of friends and entire families from Monterey County, throughout the state and country, and even a few from other countries on vacation in the area.

“The Food Bank for Monterey County provides a vital service year round, and especially during the holiday season, so we are honored and proud to make the Turkey Trot a tradition for such a worthy cause,” said Gill Campbell, CEO and general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “This year seemed to be even colder than last year but everyone was smiling when they completed their laps so I thank everyone who participated for doing a very kind thing for people in need in Monterey County.”

The Food Bank for Monterey County is the area’s largest provider of emergency supplemental food. The food bank collects, stores and redistributes food to individuals, as well as non-profit agencies that serve the aged, ill and needy. Every $1 donated to the Food Bank for Monterey County provides $5 worth of food to be distributed.
