        When Italian veteran Andrea Dovizioso retires following the San Marino Grand Prix, the MotoGP World Championship loses its final link to GP racing’s two-stroke era. Dovizioso made his Grand Prix debut at Mugello in June 2001, walking into a paddock to the tune of the ring-a-ding-ding of two-strokes being warmed up for action: 500cc Fours, 250cc Twins and 125cc Singles.

        When he walks out of the paddock at Misano his ears will have been battered all weekend by the roar of open-piped four-strokes: 1000cc Fours, 765cc Triples and 250cc Singles…
