Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to host MotoGP until 2021

Carmelo Ezpeleta, Dorna Sports CEO with Jordi Baiget, Minister of Business and Knowledge of the Generalitat de Catalunya

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya remains on the FIM MotoGP World Championship calendar for a further five years

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and Dorna Sports have renewed the MotoGP™ contract to ensure that the Catalan Grand Prix is hosted at the Catalan track until 2021. Jordi Baiget, Minister of Business and Knowledge of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna, have signed the new agreement for a further five years.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has hosted a race of the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship since 1992; first known as the European Grand Prix (1992-1995) and later as the Catalan Grand Prix (from 1996). With the renewal of the contract, the Circuit strengthens its position as a global leader and as a hub of economic growth. The agreement also gives continuity to the tradition of motorcycling and passion for motor sport in the region.

Jordi Baiget, Minister of Business and Knowledge of the Generalitat de Catalunya: “To have renewed this contract is very significant for us, due to the economic movement and the jobs it will help to generate. The investment in the Grand Prix at the Circuit reinforces Montmeló as a hub of economic growth. It also establishes the area as a powerhouse for the automotive industry, something that has always been very important in the region”.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports: “Without a doubt, the renewal of the contract with the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya until 2021 is fantastic news for MotoGP and all the fans. It is an institution that has been tied to us since the beginning, in 1992, and its commitment to our sport and its dedication could not be clearer. The team that manages and drives the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and its modern facilities has long since consolidated it as one of the permanent fixtures in the MotoGP calendar which it now cannot do without. The fact that Catalonia has secured MotoGP until 2021 shows that the trust and alliance between both parties is extremely strong”.
