FIRST PERSON/OPINION: Via e-mail: Hello, My name is John Palmer. I race WERA/CCS in the NE region. This past weekend at Summit Point, West Virginia I witnessed first hand the importance of airfence and what it does to protect us. I was asked earlier in the day on Friday to help set up the airfence in various corners. I was there earlier than normal and was actually able to help this time. On first arrival in turn 10, I was amazed at the quantity, and of that, how much was associated with RRW and the dedication to Chad Sisler(I am sure others provide it too but RRW was on almost everyone!). In the Heavyweight SOLO dropping down the hill for Turn 4, I was getting ready to make a pass around the outside, as I did the lap before on Tim Wilson. In the corner of my eye I saw a deer as I was just about to shift into 5th gear. A deer ran across the track and Tim hit it as there was absolutely no time to avoid the incident. I ran over the deer just after that and was able to stay up! I saw Tim heading towards the wall at an extremely high rate of speed as I was also. As soon as I was able to recover I noticed the MARRC corner workers already in full force looking to get the situation under control. Although Tim did not actually impact the airfence too fast, I know the airfence would have prevented much more from happening. He dislocated his shoulder and dislocated his pinky. I was there the weekend when Chad passed away also, and briefly helped load his trailer as I was pitted next to him. Setting up the airfence on Friday I kept thinking, “Watch this be the weekend I need this stuff”. Tim was there driving the truck and helping as well. You folks at RRW have done such an amazing job at keeping us racers safe, I thank you and hope RRW can keep it up. ~http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW7ktbJzpPs~ Suscriber and donater John Palmer WERA # 130 Hatfield, Pennsylvania Be sure to check out other Roadracing World feature videos.
