The Acceleration Race Team was finally home to compete in the Regional Championship races hosted at Race City Speedway in Calgary, Alberta this past weekend. The young Cochrane teenager Cody Matechuk was excited to race at his home track at the Pro level and had a tremendous weekend hitting podium every race. Sunday’s races were a follow up to the Endurance race on Saturday that saw the team of Matechuk and McBain ride to a convincing win. Matechuk was entered in four separate races in the newly upgraded Pro ranks but the 16 year old was still optimistic about adjustments made on the race tech suspension with the help of tuner, Willie Vass and the excellent wear he was getting out of his Pirelli rubber. “The bike feels great” assured Matechuk pre-race. “I just have to be able to go the distance”. The young teen ran his first class on his Acceleration Suzuki GSX-R1000. Starting in the front row, the 16 year old lead the 10 lap race from start to finish to win his first Pro race of the day. The second event was the Pro 600 sportbike race. Being new to the 600 class, Matechuk was gridded back in 11th position and would have to be focused to overcome the deficit. A brilliant launch from drop of the starter’s flag put the Acceleration pilot way out front and in the lead by the first turn. Unable to gap the competition he battled closely with McLean in 2nd through piles of lapped traffic until any gap he had was eliminated. By the final lap, Matechuk was challenged for the lead and lost the inside line through the flip-flop on the back straightaway. Through the last couple corners, Matechuk made up the difference and shot back onto the front side by side with his challenger. At the waiving checkered, the red and black Suzuki Acceleration GSX-R600 fell just inches short of taking back in a photo finish and with fans on their feet and Matechuk would take 2nd in his first Regional Pro 600 race. The next Pro Superbike race had the Joe Rocket clad racer back on the Suzuki GSX-R1000. Shuffled back to the 4th row this time, Matechuk would have to overcome his biggest start deficit of the weekend. He did so by the time the pack hit turn 1 in the 15-lap feature. Railing through the course at a new personal best of 1:17:1, the young teen opened a gap of 5 seconds on the field by lap 10. From there, Matechuk’s steady pace earned him his second win of the day. The final race of the day put Matechuk back in the saddle for another 10 laps. Taking a calculated risk with a last minute gearing change, Vass and McBain hoped to have an even better set-up for the final race of the day. Once again Matechuk ripped from the line and once again he captured the lead into the first turn. This time the quickened pace would go unchallenged. Matechuk set yet another personal best on board the Hindle ripping Suzuki GSX-R600 putting in a time of 1:18:9 and crossing the line at the checkered to capture his third Pro win of the weekend. “We really needed this”, shared Matechuk following the race. “The time on the bike and working with set-up has given us a great handling bike. The Performance friction brakes give me all the feel and control I needed for the high speed corners and the Race Tech suspension kept the Pirelli’s glued to the track. My tires look amazing”. McBain and Vass were equally impressed with the movement of the bike. “Cody (Matechuk) is a very smooth rider” explained McBain. “It really helps us figure out what adjustments to make when your rider doesn’t upset the bike with his input (rider movement).” Willie Vass, performance tuner added, “he really wanted it this weekend, he was determined and I think he’s going to sleep real well tonight”. Join the team for Rounds 2 & 3 of the Canadian NATIONAL Superbike Championships in Calgary June 24-27 as Matechuk, featured on the Jumbo-tron, will make his first appearance at home as a Professional racer on the National Circuit. See you there! More, from a press release issued by M3 Racing: M3 Racing Sweeps Podium Twice @ Summit Point The M3 Racing team based out of Rochester NY, made a huge impact in the WERA North East Regional series this past weekend at Summit Point Raceway. The 3 rider team consisting of team owner Mike Cerone, Sam Gaige and Justin Holderman, dominated Sundays races by sweeping the podium in the B Superstock and C Superbike expert classes. The team had a total of 14 podium positions for 7 races throughout the weekend, with Sam Gaige claiming the fasted 600cc laptime of the weekend at 1:14.980. #456 Mike Cerone – “This weekend was a huge success, not only personally, but we took a large step as a team. The weather forecast wasn’t looking the greatest and we did end up getting some rain on Saturday afternoon. Sundays track was a little green but very hot, and I still managed to set a personal best laptime and finish off the “All M3 Racing Podium” with Sam and Justin in 2 races. This past weekend was the most successful race that the team has had this season and we couldn’t have done it without the crew, as well as the support from our sponsors, family and friends.” #20 Sam Gaige – “Coming into this weekend I had put a little pressure on the team by saying I think it’s possible to sweep the podium. Myself, Justin, and Mike have all been quick at Summit in the past, and when Sunday came around I was even more confident we could make it happen. All of our Markbilt Yamaha R6’s performed flawlessly and we were able get the podium sweep in B Superstock and C Superbike. I finished up the weekend with 3 race wins, and a total of 7 podium finishes. We rode well as a team and we couldn’t have had such great success without our pit crew and sponsor support.” #14 Justin Holderman – “I’ve been riding well at Summit this season and picked up my first expert win there in round 2. This past weekend I was able to add 2 more wins and 3 2nd place finishes to that total. Myself and Sam had a few heated battles throughout the weekend and we passed each other back and forth probably a dozen times on Sunday. It’s been great racing so far this season and with the 3 of us finishing on the podium, it gives us more confidence as a team. It was 90 degrees all weekend and we couldn’t have dominated the way we did without the help of everyone in the pit, so thanks goes out to them.” M3 Racing would like to thanks all of the team sponsors for their support: MOMS, Markbilt Racebikes, Pirelli, Moto-Liberty, RS-Taichi, SIDI, Graves Motorsports, Chickenhawk Racing, Sharkskinz, Vortex, Pit-Bull, EBC Brakes, Silkolene, Spiegler, Zero Gravity, Shahin Enterprises, and Drippinwet.com For more information about M3 Racing, please log onto ~http://www.M3RoadRacing.com~
