Project 1 Atlanta (P1A) is excited to confirm that Jake Zemke, 2010’s Daytona Superbike Doubleheader winner and winner of the 2006 Daytona 200, will be bringing his expertise on board to pilot the P1A #98 motorcycle in the upcoming 70th running of the Daytona 200 on March 12, 2011. P1A’s Team Manager, Perry Melneciuc, has made the difficult decision that Project 1 Atlanta will be competing as an independant entrant, no longer under the Graves Yamaha umbrella. “I really appreciate what Graves Motorsports, as well as the entire Yamaha family have done in supporting P1A in its debut season. I also understand that times are tough economically and that the Yamaha umbrella is only so big. With that said, we at P1A are never saying die and are actively soliciting sponsorship and support to carry this team through 2011 and beyond. Given the many achievements this team has already seen this past season, and now having Jake on board bringing with him his wealth of talent and experience, I am confident that new doors can, and will, open for P1A.” Zemke, Melneciuc and P1A’s Chief Mechanic, Rick Boyles, have worked together in years past and have had a lot of success together. “The band is back together,” said Melneciuc. “It’s a great chemistry we have, and together with Ed Sullivan (P1A’s current Chassis Specialist) joining the band, it’s going to be good!” Currently Project 1 Atlanta has their focus set solely on a successful running of the Daytona 200 with the expectation of carrying that momentum forward through the entire 2011 AMA racing schedule.
