Chris Ulrich introduced journalists to motorcycle road racing with 140-mph rides on his GEICO Honda CBR1000RR two-seat Superbike Thursday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. “Unbelievable! I’ve never experienced anything like that before,” said Katie Wilkins, a news anchor WFMD-TV Mansfield and an on-air radio personality at Mix 106.1 FM. “Chris is a true professional. He handles that bike like a ballerina. The speed that he was going and how graceful he took the curves…it was exhilarating! I’m a fan now. “There’s so many things to this that I didn’t realize. I’m so excited to bring my boys down here now and give them the experience of seeing this and let them know there are different sports out there than your regular sports. This is definitely in the top class of sports. I mean I’m out of breath after riding two laps. So these guys are athletes. People need to come down and see this.” The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), which is based near Columbus, Ohio, sent James Holter, the Managing Editor of American Motorcyclist magazine, and Kaitlyn Sesco, a Marketing and Communication Specialist with AMA, to Mid-Ohio to participate in the two-seat Superbike program. Holter focused on gathering information, photos and videos of the ride, while Sesco got the ride experience. And that was just fine with her, because Sesco said that while she worked as an intern at Mid-Ohio and Daytona International Speedway her request to do a two-seat Superbike ridealong was denied. But Thursday she finally got her chance, and Ulrich did not disappoint her. “I thought it was amazing, better than I expected,” said Sesco. “I felt like I was in a video game. I think I went faster than I expected. We did a little wheelie coming onto the back straight. I’m thrilled. I’d do it again. I’d do it all day.” Several representatives from Broaster Chicken headquarters and distributor Broaster Sales—which sponsors Ulrich–also took two-up rides for a video promoting the sport and a related blog following AMA Pro Road Racing. For over a decade, Ulrich and his team have offered rides on two-seat racebikes to reporters to help promote AMA Pro Superbike events and motorcycle road racing in general. Ulrich himself has given over 600 two-seat racebike rides since 2003.
