By David Swarts AMA Pro Superbike racer Chris Ulrich, working with significant support from track day provider Fastrack Riders, Lucas Oil Products and Dunlop, set a new record on the first day of the ninth-annual Roadracing World Action Fund fund-raising event being held this weekend at Auto Club Speedway, in Fontana, California. Ulrich gave rides on his two-seat GEICO Honda CBR1000RR Superbike to a record 42 donors Saturday, covering approximately 223 miles with a passenger around the 2.3-mile infield road course. That beats the previous one-day record of 38 rides in a single day set by Ulrich during the fundraiser held in 2012. Ulrich did all of the laps using a single Dunlop KR448 front slick tire and two Dunlop KR449 rear slicks. Dunlop trackside sales and service vendor FRP (FrictionRacingProducts.com) provided mounting and balancing services for the effort. The fund-raiser was bolstered by terrific weather conditions and by the generosity of Lucas Oil Products, which once again made a donation so that selected employees and dealers could enjoy rides on the racetrack with Ulrich. The effort was aided by psr-usa.com’s VP of Marketing Charlie Hon, who at the request of Fastrack Riders’ David Shaverdi personally delivered one of his company’s 2-UP passenger grab handles for use on Ulrich’s CBR1000RR when it turned out that mechanics preparing the bike for 2-up duty had forgotten the original grab handle in Alabama. This year’s fundraiser continues Sunday with rides available to donors of $50 or more beginning at approximately 9:00 a.m. local time. Over the last eight years Ulrich has raised a total of $27,069 giving two-up rides on his AMA Pro Superbike. That’s in addition to raising awareness of motorcycle road racing by giving rides to broadcast and print journalists prior to AMA Pro Road Races, the two-seat Superbike’s original mission. Fastrack Riders has partnered with Ulrich and the Roadracing World Action Fund to hold the Thanksgiving weekend fundraiser each year for the last eight years, providing track time, riding gear and staff support. For more information, go to fastrackriders.com . The Roadracing World Action Fund (RWAF) has raised over $1,000,000 and has funded soft barriers deployed throughout the United States, including about 130 30-foot Airfence-brand soft barriers (with a current replacement value of over $585,000) deployed at AMA Pro Racing road race and dirt track events for 12 seasons. Hundreds of crashed riders have benefited from the placement of energy-absorbing RWAF-funded soft barriers in front of hard walls and barriers lining racetracks. For more information on the Roadracing World Action Fund, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization which promotes the deployment of soft barriers to help prevent rider injuries at racetracks, go to www.roadracingworld.com/actionfund/ .
