The motorcycle road racing community has lost a cherished and valuable member.

After a long hospitalization, we are saddened to announce the passing of Bill Brown. Bill succumbed to complications of Type 2 diabetes from which he suffered, over many of his last years. Bill died peacefully surrounded by friends.

Bill was a shining light and focal point of motorcycle road racing in the Southeast Region, across four decades. In the 1970’s Bill was the consummate amateur flat tracker – turned road racer. After an accomplished career of amateur & pro road racing, he stayed embedded in the sport as Director of Motorcycle Racing at Road Atlanta and Jennings GP. In his final years he formulated, promoted and ran his own race series, as President of the Historic MotoGP (HMGP). Bill’s HMGP Events, ran vintage and historic motorcycles at venues that included: Road Atlanta, Barber Motorsports Park, Hutchinson Island, Emelia Island, COTA and Indianapolis.

He continued to his last days, to be a road racing ambassador and avid collector of rare Yamaha road racing bikes and kit parts. One of Bill’s famous sayings was, “Boy howdy, it’s been a wild ride!” Yes, it has friend! God Speed!

Services and a Celebration of Life are being planned and will be announced in the coming weeks.
