Yamaha GMT94 Tops Qualifying For The Le Mans 24-hour World Endurance Event

After dominating practice and first qualifying, World Endurance Champions and current series leaders Suzuki Castrol posted the second fastest time for tomorrow’s 24-hour Le Mans World Endurance second round in France. SERT rider Vincent Philippe set the early pace aboard the French squad’s GSX-R1000 with the Suzuki Castrol number two team a close second until yesterday’s night practice when they recorded provisional pole position. The fastest team today was Yamaha GMT94 with a time of 1:38.174 ahead of Suzuki Castrol (1:38.354), Yamaha Austria (1:38.631) and Suzuki Castrol 2 (1:38.663). A 45-minute warm up session starts at 10.30am local time tomorrow with the race at 12.30pm. Yamaha Austria ‘s Igor Jerman (1:41.042) was sixth fastest, ahead of seventh placed Warwick Nowland’s 1:41.249 for Yamaha Phase One Endurance. Suzuki Castrol No1’s Keiichi Kitagawa (1:39.370) was fastest in today’s session 2, but could not match Philippe or Gimbert’s time. Yamaha Austria’s Sebastien Scarnato (1:38.846) was third, Kawasaki Bolliger’s Patric Muff (1:1:41.815) was seventh and Denis Bouan for Yamaha Endurance Moto38 (1:41.824) was eighth. Gwen Giabbani moved Yamaha Austria up to the top of the timing screen in today’s third session. His time of 1:38.631 was in front of yesterday’s fastest man, Suzuki Castrol’s Matthieu Lagrive, who’s best time today was 1:38.649. So Yamaha GMT94 have taken the overall provisional pole position, ahead of Suzuki Castrol No.1 in second place and Yamaha Austria in third. Fourth place went to the No.2 Suzuki Castrol team and fifth to Team Kawasaki France. Yamaha Endurance Moto38 were the third fastest qualifying permanent team in ninth place, in front of Yamaha Phase One Endurance in tenth, Kawasaki Bolliger in 11th place, Suzuki Fagersjo-el.se in 14th, Yamaha Team Acropolis Zone Rouge 99 in 15th and Kawasaki Diablo 666 in 17th overall.
