Riding his MV Agusta Reparto Corse F3 800 RR on Pirelli control tires, Dutchman Bendsneyder lapped the 2.76-mile (4.44 km) course in 1:32.310 to top the field of 21 riders and earn his first ever pole position.

The British racer Tom Booth-Amos was the best of the rest with a 1:32.499 on his PTR Triumph Factory Racing Street Triple RS 765, and the Frenchman Lucas Mahias earned the third and final spot on the front row with a lap time of 1:32.635 on his GMT94-Yamaha YZF R9.

More, from a press release issued by Dorna:

Bendsneyder claims pole despite crash at Phillip Island season-opening Superpole session.

WorldSSP returns for the 2025 season in their season-premier Tissot Superpole session which welcomed Bo Bendsneyder to the podium for his first ever pole.

FIM Supersport World Championship rang in the new season with the first race event of the weekend with their opening Tissot Superpole session on Friday afternoon in Australia. A sunny afternoon at Phillip Island hosted the WorldSSP grid who sunk their teeth into the 2025 season with several key twists already in this season-opening session. Dutch rider Bo Bendsneyder (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) finished fastest despite not finishing the session, suffering a heavy crash with eight minutes left in the session at Turn 2. The WorldSSP season looks like it will be hard to look away from, as the Tissot Superpole session featured 14 riders within a second of the polesitter.

SUPERPOLE’S SUPER TRIO: Bendsneyder P1 despite early exit

Bendsneyder set hot lap after hot lap throughout the session after wrestling P1 away from Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing), however he suffered a crash in the long Turn 2 Southern loop, a highside sending he and his bike careening into the gravel. He was taken to the medical centre for a check-up. Before exiting, he set the fastest lap which held for the rest of the session with a time of 1’32.310s. Second-placed Booth-Amos replicated his results from Free Practice earlier in the day with a P2 finish of 1’32.499s for his first front row in WorldSSP. Making a late jump up the time sheet, 2017 WorldSSP Champion Lucas Mahias (GMT94-YAMAHA) staked his claim on the rostrum with a 1’32.635s time, his first podium since Round 2’s Race 2 where he also claimed third.

ONCU AND MAHIAS LATE HEROICS: The Turkish rider and French 2017 Champion punched their second-row ticket

Can Oncu (Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Racing Team) leaped up the grid thanks to a quick lap in the dying minutes of the session, the Turkish rider claiming the first position on the second row on the back of his 1’32.644s lap. Valentin Debise (Renzi Corse) clung to the top three positions throughout the session however late laps from Mahias and Oncu bumped him down the timesheet to P5. Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) wasn’t quite able to replicate the magic he was producing throughout preseason testing, however a P6 finish from a time of 1’32.765s is a positive result from the Spanish WorldSSP rookie.

TOP 10 FINISHERS: Bayliss snags a row three appearance

Hometown hero Oli Bayliss (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) narrowly missed out on the second row, only 0.049s behind Masia in P6, and a time of 1’32.814s sets him up nicely at the front of Row 3. Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) seemed to struggle with his bike’s grip in sectors of the track, the 2024 World Supersport runner-up placed P8 with a 1’32.841s lap time. Marcel Schroetter (WRP Racing) was just 0.008s behind Manzi, a step behind the times he was laying down in testing and this morning’s Free Practice. His fastest lap in the session was 1’32.849s. Grabbing a late place in the top 10, Michael Rinaldi started his WorldSSP career on a good note, a time of 1’32.889s earning him P10 for tomorrow’s Race 1.

FREE PRACTICE NOTABLES: Toba crash, Farioli injured

Valentin Debise maintained his rapid pace from testing this week topping the grid again, followed in P2 Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) just 0.027s behind him. Rounding out the three fastest times in the Free Practice, Bo Bendsneyder (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) continued his rise in WorldSSP by claiming P3.  Filippo Farioli suffered from an engine issue in Free Practice, spewing oil on the track, and eventually precipitating a crash in Turn 9’s Lukey Heights. It was a big high side crash which he walked away from but was later diagnosed with a broken left ankle. The incident left track attendants with their hands full to fill up the spilled oil in prior corners. Achieving a P7 time on his Honda CBR600RR, Kaito Toba unfortunately say his progress dashed by a session-ending crash in Turn 11 during the Superpole session.

Moto3: Rueda Tops Final Test In Jerez

Jose Rueda took his Red Bull KTM Ajo machine to the top of the time sheet in Jerez on the final day of the last official preseason test for the Moto3 World Championship.

Rueda’s 1:43.357 was just under the outright lap record of 1:43.710 set last year by World Champion David Alonso. The next two quickest riders, Joel Kelso and Adrian Fernandez, also were under Alonso’s mark.

Fernandez was the quickest Honda, while KTM took seven of the top 10 positions.

World Superbike: Riders Talk About This Weekend’s Season Opener

Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team):

“Last year was an amazing season and now we’re using the #1, I need to keep it for next year. This isn’t easy because everyone is very strong, especially all the Ducati riders and Bulega. He’ll come back stronger. Last year, he did an incredible job every race weekend but I know he’ll start stronger this year. I’m still working and the team too. We’re still working for the best setup, we’ll never give up. I’ll always trying to do my best in the race and the team are pushing more than 100%. We’re using the #1 and this is important; winning the Championship this year is my biggest target because I’ve never won the Championship with the #1. This weekend is important, I need to start strong. I’m feeling better than Monday! I feel less pain. I’m very happy that the weekend is starting. I think I feel now 8/10, maybe 9. I feel good and I’m ready to race.”

Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati):

“I don’t know if I’m the favourite, I’m just thinking about where I can improve. Everyone will improve so I know I need to keep taking steps forward and improving with my team, keeping the good confidence with the bike, and always staying in the first position. lots of riders were fast during the test like Toprak, Iannone, Petrucci, Locatelli, Bautista, lots of fast guys very close, I think it will be an interesting weekend.”

Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati):

“I’m looking forward to the weekend, especially in the last test I was feeling much better on the bike and was starting to recover my confidence, so I enjoyed the two days of testing a lot. I’m looking forward to starting the weekend, in the first race you always feel a bit nervous like it’s the first day of school, so I’m really looking forward to it and let’s see if I can keep the same confidence this weekend! Nicolo looked really strong, Petrucci, Iannone, and Toprak with the BMW, I think this track is good for bigger riders, you need put lots of pressure on the bike every time with fast corners and changing direction. Smaller riders like myself are maybe at a disadvantage but either way I enjoy riding here and it is one of my favourite tracks. I have won many races here and for the victory there is a clear name, but the podium there will be a strong battle.”

Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team):

“I’m really excited to start this new chapter. It’s not completely new as me and the whole team have changed. We’re getting used to the new colours. The KB998 Rimini is a fantastic bike. I’ve enjoyed riding it from the first test in the winter. The test at Phillip Island went well, it’s been enjoyable to ride. Some parts of the bike are very strong, some parts that we’re still trying to improve which is completely normal. It would be a dream to start the new project with a win. We have to be careful to not expect too much. Last year, arguably, this track was the strongest track for the Kawasaki, and we took advantage of that. This year, it’s not the same bike, but you never know. From the test, Bulega and Iannone looked strong and consistent and Petrucci as well. Alvaro’s always strong at this track. Locatelli’s always fast here, Toprak is always going to be in the fight for the victory. One of the most exciting things is there are 12 or 15 people who could be on the podium; this is the reality.”

Moto3: Munoz Edges Lap Record In Jerez Testing

David Munoz on the Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP KTM was just under the outright lap record for Moto3 machines in the second day of the official preseason test in Perez.

Munoz clocked a 1:43.604, just under the 1:43.710 set by David Alonso last year.

World Supersport: Bendsneyder, MV Agusta Top Testing In Australia

Australia’s second and final day of preseason testing before the 2025 WorldSSP season is in the books, and several new characters have made their mark during the test

Bo Bendsneyder (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) continued to show impressive form during Day 2 of the Official Test for the FIM Supersport World Championship field as he lapped more than half-a-second clear of surprise package Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura). The Spanish rookie took P2 as he showed a glimpse of his early potential at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.

Bendsneyder made it two for two in Australia’s testing days, recording a thunderous P1 with the fastest lap of the test; setting a 1’31.595 with another very strong performance for Bendsneyder, raising his stock even higher. Spanish star Masia has dropped into the WorldSSP paddock this off-season and has made a name for himself already in testing, finishing P5 on Day 1 and now P2 on Day 2, holding P1 until minutes before the end of the session on the back of a 1’32.129s. Valentin Debise (Renzi Corse) rounded out the would-be rostrum for the second time in two days with a 1’32.332s. Once again he was the second fastest Ducati, but last year’s fourth-place finisher looks like a Championship contender if he keeps this pace up.

Can Oncu (Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Racing) broke into the top four, improving on his P13 finish on Day 1 with a 1’32.387s lap. Germany’s Marcel Schroetter (WRP Racing) claimed P5 on Day 2, riding his Panigale V2 for a personal best on the day of 1’32.433. In sixth, Filippo Farioli joined his MV Agusta Reparto Corse teammate Bendsneyder in the top six on the back of his 1’32.544s lap.

Oli Bayliss came in at P7 with his 1’32.557s lap, an improvement on his Day 1 best of 1’33.563s. 2024 WorldSSP Championship runner-up Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) landed in P8, riding his new Yamaha R9 for a fastest lap on the day of 1’32.602s. Lucas Mahias (GMT94-YAMAHA) placed the same as he placed in Monday afternoon’s FP2, in P9, with a 1’32.687s lap. Xavi Cardelus (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) improved from a P16 finish on Day 1, claiming a top 10 spot with a personal best on the day of 1’32.730s.

The top six from Day 2:

1 Bo Bendsneyder (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) 1’31.595s, 51 laps

2. Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) +0.534s, 46 laps

3. Valentin Debise (Renzi Corse) +0.737s, 45 laps

4. Can Oncu (Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Racing) +0.792s, 58 laps

5. Marcel Schroetter (WRP Racing) +0.838s, 49 laps

6. Filippo Farioli (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) +0.949s, 65 laps

Track hours will be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day with a lunch break (mandatory cold track) from Noon to 1:00 p.m.

This is a great opportunity to test Dunlop tires and get some extra seat time just prior to Daytona, so interested teams should send an email message to Dunlop’s Cori Maynard at “[email protected]” no later than February 28 and express their interest in participating.
