USBA: 2025 Marks A New Era Of Racing

The Utah Sport Bike Association (USBA) – 2025: A New Era of Racing

In 2024, the Utah Sport Bike Association made significant strides to enhance the racing experience for its members. The reintroduction of two-day racing was a huge success, and with the support of the Roadracing World Action Fund, additional Airfence barriers were added, enabling racing to resume on the East course configuration at the world-renowned Utah Motorsports Campus (UMC). The USBA has seen more riders from neighboring states and even Canada, all eager to bang bars with local racers and vie for podium finishes and purse money provided by Burt Brothers Tires and Service and the Outlaw Garage. Following a year of remarkable growth and change, what’s next for the USBA in 2025?

The Utah Motorcycle Law Masters of the Mountains Race Series is truly a series “For the Racer, By the Racer.” USBA board members, most of which actively race themselves, asked their riders for feedback on what they love most about the club, and areas where improvements could be made. After reviewing the feedback, the USBA board went to work and the 2025 season promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Club President David Meyer stated “I am very happy with the recent trajectory of our club, and the progressive changes we’ve made for 2025. Our board and volunteer staff have worked hard this off-season to structure a monumental 2025 season. While the off-season work continues, we are excited to welcome new and existing racers from near and far to the first-class racing experience The USBA offers.”

Continuing the success of 2024, the 2025 season will feature two-day racing with an option for Friday practice hosted by club partner Apex Trackdays. The season kicks off with the annual New Racer Certification on April 12th at UMC. By popular demand, the series is expanding from 5 to 6 rounds in 2025 offering more laps, more fun, and more opportunity to compete for podiums and purse money. Thanks to the ongoing partnership with the Roadracing World Action Fund, racing will take place on the West, East and the coveted Perimeter course configurations, providing racers with variety and the challenge of multiple track layouts. The USBA renewed its partnership with the AMA for 2025 which means racers looking to earn their MotoAmerica license can race for points all summer in Utah working toward the next step of their racing careers.

The USBA will also continue its Supermoto/MiniMoto Race Series, sponsored by Edge Powersports, which includes classes ranging from minimoto to full-size supermoto bikes. “It’s important to create a platform for the next generation of road racers to develop their skills,” said President Meyer. “By offering youth racers a safe, fun, and competitive environment, we hope to spark a passion for the sport and watch them grow into champions.” For 2025, the USBA has partnered with MotoAmerica to host two rounds that serve as national qualifying events for the National Minimoto Championship, which will be held later in the year by MotoAmerica.

In conjunction with MotoAmerica, USBA is hosting two Mini Cup rounds that will qualify riders for the MotoAmerica Mission Mini Cup National Finals being held at Road America August 8-10. Photo by Driveby Shooting,

That’s not all. The USBA is revamping its race day format to provide the ultimate road racing experience. In the past, only the premier “King of the Mountain” racers qualified for their grid positions. This year, all racers will have the chance to lay down their fastest lap in qualifying, ensuring everyone has an opportunity to fight for their best possible position on the grid. The USBA has also simplified race classes and weekend schedules, making it easier for riders to sign up and participate, regardless of the bike they’re riding. Race a cutting-edge superbike or a classic ultra-lightweight? What about a Bagger or Hooligan? No matter what bike you’re on there will be plenty of opportunities to grid up!

Maybe the biggest and most exciting development for the 2025 season is the return of Endurance Racing. The USBA is proud to announce a six-round, two-hour endurance series where racers will test their skill, stamina, and strategy over extended periods on the track. This exciting new championship is set to bring a whole new level of challenge and camaraderie to the series. More details on this will be released soon, but one thing is clear: endurance racing is making a comeback at the Utah Motorsports Campus!

Why Race with the Utah Sport Bike Association in 2025?

World Class Track and Facilities, Purse Money, Contingency, AMA points, Competitive Atmosphere, Endurance Racing, All Classes Qualifying, and so much more! Whether you’re chasing podium finishes, seeking endurance challenges, or just looking for an exceptional racing environment, the USBA offers something for everyone. Get ready to grid up in 2025 — we’ll see you at the track!

World Superbike: American Gerloff Testing For Two Days At Jerez

Garrett Gerloff (Kawasaki WorldSBK Team) is testing at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto, today and tomorrow, January 22-23. This is the third Jerez track outing he has undertaken on the official Ninja ZX-10RR in readiness for what will be his first Kawasaki season in the FIM Superbike World Championship, and his sixth overall.

His most recent test on the ZX-10RR was completed in late November, with Gerloff setting strong times and ending up fourth fastest. There are new parts and set-up options for Garrett to try at Jerez, with Gerloff able to compare them to the materials and machine settings he has used in the previous Jerez outings.

There should also be a greater number of other official and independent teams at this next test than any previous outing at the end of the 2024 season, all of which adds another level of interest for both competitors and fans, who are eagerly anticipating the start of the season itself in late February.

The 2025 WorldSBK campaign will be the first for Manuel Puccetti’s race team as the official Kawasaki entry. This new status has led to a name change for the one-rider effort – now called the Kawasaki WorldSBK Team. This fresh initiative forms positive proof of Kawasaki’s continuing participation in WorldSBK with an official team.

After the Jerez test Gerloff will next ride the Ninja ZX-10RR at the heavily undulating Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal, between 28-29 January.

Round One of the championship takes place at the now legendary Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Australia, between 21-23 February, after the traditional two day official championship organiser’s pre-season test, between 17-18 February.

Garrett Gerloff, stated: “I am very excited to be on the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR again after not riding it since the last test at Jerez in November. I am looking forward to going back to the same track as last time to see if we can find some more improvements. Then, I will be very excited to go to following tests at Portimao. That will be the first time I will ride the bike at a track other than Jerez. I know we can find more improvements from me, the bike and the team, so it should be fun to get 2025 officially started at Jerez.”

Manuel Puccetti, Team Principal, stated: “We’re very happy to be back testing our bikes less than a month ahead of the Phillip Island season-opener. Unfortunately, the weather forecast doesn’t look great for the first tests at Jerez, but we’ll try to make the most of the sessions anyway. As for WorldSBK, we’ve already had the chance to work with Garrett Gerloff on our 2025 version of the Ninja ZX-10RR but we now have a lot of new parts to test, and we hope to be able to do that before shipping the bikes to Australia.”

KTM Introduces 2025 390 SMC R Supermoto

(Editors Note: The 125 SMC R is not listed among KTM’s U.S. offerings.)

For 2025, the supermoto segment receives two welcome additions in the shape of the KTM 125 SMC R and KTM 390 SMC R. These small-capacity SMC R models offer the accessibility and ease of use of a compact single-cylinder motorcycle while providing dynamic riding experiences with real-world usability – with true READY TO RACE attitude.

MODEL RANGE OVERVIEW

The KTM 125 SMC R and KTM 390 SMC R bring supermoto thrills to a wider audience. Boasting long travel suspension, 17” wheels, grippy tires, and a specifically curated selection of rider aids and tech, they provide real-world, sporty riding in an accessible, rider-friendly package.

BODYWORK AND GRAPHICS

The KTM 125 SMC R and KTM 390 SMC R boast a slim and compact body profile, thanks to a very compact 9L metal fuel tank and slimline fairings. These not only reduce overall width but also protect the tank in the event of a fall while optimizing rider ergonomics when standing on the pegs or getting low into a corner.

CTG AND GRAPHICS

The 2025 KTM 125 SMC R and KTM 390 SMC R models feature a completely new, off-road-inspired styling, with a clear and definitive KTM CTG design set in resilient in-mold graphics.

SUSPENSION AND CHASSIS

A new 2-piece steel trellis frame design is based on the Gen 3 platform shared with the smaller-capacity DUKE models but features a different steering head angle, triple clamps, subframe mounts, and rigidity profile, specifically engineered for use off-road, with improved handling, control and stability. The new frame is also designed for greater clearance for the radiator package, with the footpeg location being optimized to fit better the riding style and requirements for aggressive supermoto-style riding.

SUBFRAME

The new subframe sports a sleek, off-road-inspired bolt-on steel trellis design. This unique design contributes to a strong and sturdy build, and the subframe was specifically crafted to offer a one-piece seat while having a long-stroke suspension, as well as being stylish, functional, and thoughtfully designed for purpose.

SWINGARM

The new off-road-ready, gravity die-cast swingarm has been specifically developed to take the punch, the swingarm derives from the new generation smaller-capacity ADVENTURE range.

SUSPENSION

Both the KTM 125 SMC R and KTM 390 SMC R both feature a 43 mm WP APEX open cartridge front fork, offering 230 mm of travel. The KTM 390 SMC R stands out with its effortless compression and rebound adjustability, allowing for quick tuning in convenient 30-click increments—no tools required, while the KTM 125 SMC R features the same in a non-adjustable setup.

On the rear, both models feature an off-center WP APEX shock absorber with 230 mm of travel, with the KTM 390 SMC R boasting adjustable rebound properties with 20 clicks. The preload is adjustable with a tool. The KTM 125 SMC R rear shock is not adjustable for rebound, but preload can be adjusted with a tool.

WHEELS AND TIRES

Both the KTM 125 SMC R and the KTM 390 SMC R feature 17” wheels at each end in 110/70 R17 and 150/60 R17 dimensions respectively. The KTM 390 SMC R boasts spoked wheels wrapped in Michelin power 6 tires, while the KTM 125 SMC R is equipped with cast wheels.

BRAKES

The KTM 125 SMC R and the KTM 390 SMC R are equipped with powerful 320 mm radial brakes on the front and 240 mm single piston brakes on the back for proper supermoto stopping power.

ENGINE

Both SMC R models are powered by a new generation of lightweight, compact small single-cylinder engines and dubbed the LC4c – c for compact, which debuted in the recent KTM DUKE range. Building off the experience gained with the previous generation of small single-cylinder engines, these powerplants are completely redesigned, with newly optimized cylinder heads and gearboxes ready for EURO 5+ compliant. This new engine platform introduces updated service intervals, with the first service occurring at 1,000
km, followed by regular services every 10,000 km thereafter. Valve checks are performed every 20,000 km.

CYLINDER HEAD

This new LC4c powerplant features a larger valve cover with a smaller cylinder head, reducing the weight at the upper end of the engine. A new thermostat position – mounted directly into the cylinder head – improves thermal monitoring and provides more stable running temperatures under different riding conditions.

FUEL INJECTION

New injectors are now angled directly into the inlet valves to reduce build-up in the inlet channel. These new injectors also provide a finer fuel spray, making for more efficient combustion and less emissions.

NEW AIRBOX

A new airbox has been optimized to suit the SMC R packaging. This has been done to allow the engine to sit higher, increasing ground clearance and allowing a more focused rider triangle.

EXHAUST

A unique, stainless steel exhaust design means the system fitted to the KTM 125 SMC R and KTM 390 SMC R does not need an end muffler. This has resulted in a total weight saving of 2 kg. The new exhaust is equipped with a Double-Catalyzer to comply with Euro 5+ regulations and features active control whereby the ECU not only adjusts the fuel mixture for optimal detonation but also adjusts the mixture to ensure an optimal  temperature to reduce emissions. The active combustion system also works to detect any misfires, helping to diagnose the status of the catalytic converter and store
information for OBDII diagnosis. For riders looking for more, specially engineered and designed KTM PowerParts are available to add more style, clearance, or power to the overall package.

GEARBOX AND CLUTCH

Improved gear guidance reduces shift forces within the gearbox, and was achieved by replacing the previous 5mm guides with 6mm guides at the fork pins along with other small optimizations. The shift drum shape has been optimized for easier shifting between the 5th and 6th gears, making for smoother movements of the gears along the shafts. The shift lever travel has also been reduced resulting in quicker and responsive action. A Power Assisted Slipper Clutch is now installed on all models, with optimized gears on the clutch basket and flywheel reducing weight and making for easier clutch control, along with an optional Quickshifter+ system.

TECH

Setting the benchmark for the smaller displacement supermoto segment, the 2025 KTM 125 SMC R and KTM 390 SMC R boast real-world technological advancements that not only enhance the riding experience but also safety.

RIDE AND ABS MODES

The 2025 KTM 390 SMC R feature selectable Ride Modes. The default setting is STREET and for riders looking for more control, as well as SPORT Mode where Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC) can also be turned off completely. A new memory feature is added to the 2025 line-up. The motorcycle will remember your selected Ride Mode when the motorcycle is turned off and will retain this mode once started up. All SMC R models are fitted with dual channel ABS, this is thanks to the Bosch 10.3MB Modulator. If a rider selects SPORT Mode, he or she can choose between Road, Supermoto or Supermoto+ ABS. The KTM 125 SMC R has no selectable Ride Modes.

LED LIGHTS

All models in the 2025 lineup feature LED lights, providing excellent visibility during the day and illumination at night.

NEW DASHBOARD

The SMC R range comes with a new 4.2-inch TFT dashboard with a unique UI specially designed for the compact screen size. Made from bonded glass, the TFT also features a polarization coating to reduce glare and improve readability on bright days. This ensures riders can quickly and easily see all relevant information such as speed, fuel level, and gear indicator. All new generation SMC R models will also be equipped with connectivity functions, such as a music player via the KTM Connect App, the ability to answer incoming calls, and turn-by-turn navigation. The new dashboards are supported by completely redesigned switchcubes featuring a 4-way Joystick with optimized ergonomics and Illuminated switches. These allow riders to control various functions of the motorcycle, such as lights, indicators, and Ride Modes, and of course, interact with different connectivity
features. Lastly, a new connectivity unit connects the motorcycle to the rider’s smartphone via Bluetooth. It enables the rider to access features such as turn-by-turn navigation, music library directly from the dashboard, call in and out and Remote Control Mode, which allows the rider to control their phone via the switch cubes.

Madonna di Campiglio, the Pearl of the enchanting Dolomites and location linked to Audi by a strong and active partnership that has lasted 12 years, is the theater for the third year in a row of the Ducati Lenovo Team Launch. In fact, the Desmosedici GP and the new pair of riders – who will take part in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship (first race scheduled for the March 2nd in Thailand) – were unveiled this morning at the Palacampiglio.

After a record-breaking year, with the Constructors’ World Title, the Teams’ World Title and 13 wins, the Ducati Lenovo Team is back, reconfirming its desire to improve and aim for excellence. New technical features for the Desmosedici GP25 and continuity in the design with the predominant Ducati Red and the neon detail, which recalls the Ducati logo, increasingly recognizable and distinctive.

The 2025 season means an exceptional duo of riders: Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia who returns to the track with the number 63 and Marc Márquez who bring the 93 on the fairing of the Desmosedici GP. An amount of 11 World Titles, considering the various categories, to give the right value to the Borgo Panigale project. Bagnaia aims to be once again a protagonist of the Championship while Márquez wears Red for a new beginning.

On the stage of ‘Campioni in Pista’, an event organized by Ducati in collaboration with Trentino Marketing and the Madonna di Campiglio Tourist Board, in addition to the riders and the Team management, also Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, Luigi Dall’Igna, General Manager of Ducati Corse, Luca Rossi, President of Lenovo’s Intelligent Devices Group, Timm Barlet, Director of Audi Italia and Tullio Serafini, President of the Madonna di Campiglio Tourist Board.

The start of the MotoGP season is around the corner. Today, before enjoying the spectacular ski slopes of the Pearl of the Dolomites, the Ducati Lenovo Team riders will be present in the downtown of Madonna di Campiglio, Sissi Square, form 5:00 pm to meet all the fans. On Tuesday, January 22nd, the first official interview with the Bagnaia-Márquez duo is also scheduled, which will bring the voices of the two Ducati Champions to the world from the snowy slopes of the SkiArea Madonna di Campiglio through broadcasting on the official Ducati YouTube channel.

Claudio Domenicali (CEO Ducati Motor Holding):

“The presentation of the 2025 Ducati Lenovo Team is an important moment for the whole Company. Our goal of continuous improvement has guided the choices for this season and we are confident that a Team with two champions like Pecco and Marc will be an inspiration for the entire crew. The mutual contribution that Pecco, a great interpreter and expert of the Ducati package with which he has won more than anyone else in recent past years, and Marc, a rider of unquestionable talent and experience, means for sure an extra value. In these years we have always believed in our abilities, and being able to invest in a system, we built our best moment ever: from a sporting point of view, creating the fastest bike on the grid and attracting the strongest riders of this generation and from a business point of view, applying this winning method also in planning, design and in the development of the series products. 2025 promises to be full of challenges and we are preparing to face them with the strength of a product range made of light and technological bikes and an extraordinary Team that promises an unprecedented show”.

Luigi Dall’Igna (Ducati Corse General Manager):

“As usual, Madonna di Campiglio welcomes us in its truly evocative setting for the Ducati Lenovo Team Launch. After a record-breaking year in terms of performance and results, our goal remains the same. We want to continue improving, even if every year, looking at the numbers and statistics, it is increasingly difficult. We are very proud of the entire working group and we are ready to face a new challenge in MotoGP, which has always been the maximum expression of motorcycle racing. Expectations are high, is normal, because we have an excellent technical package and a pair of riders that need no introduction with 11 World Championship titles across the various categories. They are probably among the strongest guys on the entire MotoGP grid: Pecco (Bagnaia) remains a point of reference for Ducati and I am sure Marc (Márquez) will be able to settle into the Team and show all his talent. We know that the other manufacturers are making a strong effort and I expect even higher competition where Ducati Corse can be competitive”.

Luca Rossi (President of Intelligent Devices Group di Lenovo):

“Ducati and Lenovo represent much more than a sponsorship—it’s a true partnership between us built on shared values, aligned goals, and a passion for innovation and performance. Building on the remarkable progress and learnings from recent years, we’re working hand-in-hand with Ducati to push the limits even further as we enter the eight MotoGP season together. Thanks to our cutting-edge technology, we will continue to drive performance to new heights for the 2025 season. We’re proud and honored to be part of the team’s remarkable journey as they face intense competition with unwavering determination, a strong team spirit, and a bold, forward-thinking approach”.

Francesco Bagnaia (#63, Ducati Lenovo Team):

“It will be the fifth season with the Ducati Lenovo Team, we have shown that we are a close-knit working group. I will return to the track with the number 63 after a 2024 that did not give me the greatest joy, the title I mean, but was very hard-fought and I have achieved several records. I have learned a lot, I tried to make the most of each situation and the sensations on the bike, in Barcelona in the first testing session after the GP, were immediately positive. I have a new teammate, a strong and competitive rider and, together, we can take the development of the bike to an even higher level. It will be demanding, I will try not to leave anything to chance and to face the season with the same spirit as always”.

Marc Márquez (#93, Ducati Lenovo Team):

“I am really happy to be here wearing the official colours of the Ducati Lenovo Team. It is exciting to be here today in Madonna di Campiglio, opening a new MotoGP season that marks the start of what I consider to be the most important challenge of my career. During this winter I have been able to disconnect a little but I also had time for training hard and now I’m feeling ready for facing a new year that will be challenging and exciting. I am really looking forward to continuing with the work that we started at the Montmeló testing session last November and getting back on the bike in Sepang and then in Buriram. My first short-term goal is to enjoy riding because I kwon that if I manage to do that everything else will follow. As I have said many times, when you are in an official team, the goal cannot be other than to be competitive in every race, fighting for podiums and victories and to try to be protagonist in the World Championship. During the days I have been able to share with the Team so far I have seen that the working atmosphere is fantastic and I can’t wait to ride the Desmosedici GP again. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Claudio Domenicali, Gigi Dall’Igna, Mauro Grassilli and Davide Tardozzi for their trust and the wonderful and warm welcome they gave me. We can have a lot of fun this season”.

World Superbike: BMW Riders “Good And Happy” Going Into 2025

The start of the 2025 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship is getting closer, and testing has already started, with the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team completing a one-day test at Jerez last year. At the team launch in Berlin this week, riders Toprak Razgatlioglu and Michael van der Mark spoke about their first impressions of the 2025 machine, which features revised aerodynamics, changes to the engine and more, while Team Principal Shaun Muir and BMW Motorrad Technical Director, Chris Gonschor, also explained what the riders had told them.

“IT’S A LITTLE BIT BETTER” – Razgatlioglu aiming to be fast out of the blocks

After claiming the 2024 title in stunning fashion, with 18 wins and 27 podiums despite missing two rounds, Razgatlioglu is aiming to defend his title with the #1 plate on his M 1000 RR. ‘El Turco’ was adapting to the BMW machine in the early phases of last year but, with a year of experience under his belt, is expecting to be fast from the start in 2025 despite changes to the bike and only one day of testing on it.

The Turkish star said: “We improved the grip a little bit, which is good as it’s what I need. We improved that a little bit and the electronics side. In general, I’m feeling very similar and there’s not a big difference. The fairing is a little bit different, and the bike feels more agile. This is a good step. In general, I know the bike. I’ve learnt it and I know the character. This is a big advantage for me for the new season. Last year, when we got to Phillip Island, I was still learning my bike. This year, I know it and I’ll start fast immediately. It’s a little bit better but we need to see with all riders; I rode alone at the test and only did one day. It looks not bad, but it was also very cold conditions. We need a hot conditions test. I’ll miss the first test at Jerez because my finger’s broken. Maybe I’ll go to Portimao but if not, we’ll see at the Phillip Island test. I’m excited to have the #1.”

“IT FELT GOOD STRAIGHT AWAY” – a good year for van der Mark in store?

Van der Mark had an injury-free year in 2024 and finished in the top six of the World Championship standings for the first time since 2021. He took a wet weather victory at a soaking Magny-Cours as he delivered a masterclass in the wet, while he also ended the year on the podium with his friend and teammate, Razgatlioglu. For 2025, van der Mark is aiming to start where he finished last year, and his first impressions of the new bike were also positive.

The Dutchman commented: “It was just one day but it was nice to get out on the bike. It was nice to get the first feeling with the new package. It felt good straight away. It’s always difficult, when you’re out on track alone, to compare with other bikes. The best thing for us is that the first impression and feeling for us was positive. Some small areas where we wanted to improve so we’ll see where we are in the first test at Jerez.”

“THEY HAD A SMILE ON THEIR FACE!” – work to do despite good first impression

Technical Director Gonschor was delighted with the initial feedback from the riders, but admitted there was still work to do to refine the package ahead of the season-opening Australian Round. He stated: “Luckily, they had a smile on their face! It was a very good first impression but, like always, the very first test with a new bike, new engine specification and a whole package gives you some homework and questions. Overall, they saw the potential of the bike and it has improved compared to last year. Nevertheless, you have to work hard to gain every improvement in every aspect and we need a bit more testing to be perfectly prepared for Phillip Island.”

“THEY FEEL GOOD AND HAPPY” – another strong year for BMW?

Gonschor’s thoughts were echoed by Muir, the Team Principal, who stated the feedback he received was that it was an improvement in the whole package and not one specific area. He said: “The M 1000 RR now has a 2025 upgrade. It’s got a complete new aerodynamic package complete with the bike. A lot of work has been done on this. The engine has been upgraded. It’s got a top-end cylinder head modification and other internals. Generally, that package is much more sophisticated for us. The test team have worked many kilometres on this bike. The first impression of Toprak and Michael was that no one specific area was an improvement; it’s the package felt stronger everywhere. We only did one day. The first impression from Toprak and Michael was that they feel good and happy.”

Eli Tomac Takes San Diego Supercross Victory

Julien Beaumer Earns Career-First Win in 250SX Class

San Diego, Calif., (January 18, 2025) In a race that took the battle down to the final lap, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Eli Tomac grabbed the win inside Snapdragon Stadium to earn his 53rd career Monster Energy AMA Supercross victory. Significantly for the crowd favorite, Tomac takes over the points lead for the first time since suffering what was potentially a career-ending injury in 2023.

Team Honda HRC Progressive’s Jett Lawrence was on Tomac’s rear fender until the very end but never mounted an attack for the top spot; Jett’s second place finish marked a strong improvement from his 12th place finish at the Anaheim Opener. Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb led early but was overtaken by Tomac and Lawrence nearly simultaneously at the race’s mid-point. Webb, under the weather, held off a late race charge from Progressive Insurance ECSTAR Suzuki’s Ken Roczen to keep his podium spot. Last weekend’s winner, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Chase Sexton recovered from a first lap crash; he reached sixth place by the time the checkered flag flew. The Western Regional 250SX Class produced a new first-time winner when Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Julien Beaumer earned his first Supercross win and took over the division’s points lead.

“It has been a long time since I’ve won one of these 20-minute Main Events. So it feels so good to rebound from last weekend; it was a heartbreak there in Anaheim… I had to work for this. I made a lot of passes and was able to keep it on two wheels. This feels so good.” – Eli Tomac.

Honda’s Jett Lawrence finished second in the 450cc Supercross race in San Diego. Photo by Feld Motor Sports, Inc.

“That [race with Eli] was awesome. He got me at the start and I was trying so hard just to get close enough to make a pass, but he was ripping… I’m just happy that I’m ten positions better than last weekend, for sure, so I’m happy to be on the box… We tested hard this week to try and get the bike to a better spot, and it was much better.” – Jett Lawrence

Cooper Webb was third and said “It was a good race. I was able to lead a lot of laps. I got a great start, much better than last week. We saw that those two guys [Tomac and Lawrence] were coming, and then they were [by me and] gone, just like that… I’ve been a bit under the weather so at about the halfway point that was all I had. I gave it my all, had a great battle with Kenny, and was able to hold him off and get a solid podium.”

Chase Sexton finished sixth, and said “On the first lap I almost got landed on and then in [about] the next turn I fell over. It was just me not being ready to go at the gate drop, honestly. That kind of lit a fire under me and after that I really feel like I rode the best that I’ve ridden in a long time… Some night’s aren’t your night so we’ll come back at A2 and try to get back on the top step.”

In 250SX Class racing, Red Bull KTM’s 18-year old Julien Beaumer followed up his career-first podium with his first career win. Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cole Davies, in only his second pro race, led early with Beaumer making several moves for the lead before working his way past six and a half minutes into the race. Triumph Racing’s Jordon Smith was steady in third until taking over the second-place position at the race’s midpoint. Defending 250SMX World Champion Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Haiden Deegan fought forward from a mid-pack start. With just under four minutes left on the clock Deegan reached third, capitalizing on a mistake in the rhythm section from Rockstar Energy GASGAS Factory Racing’s Ryder DiFrancesco.

“It was an amazing main event. I got off to a good start and was just trying to be patient behind Davies. I tried to wear him down a little bit and then made my move. From there I just tried to ride my own race.” – Julien Beaumer

Jordon Smith was second in the 250cc race and said, “It was a good day. We were changing settings on the bike all day trying to make it better. We still have a lot of things that we can dial in a little bit just to get a little more comfortable, but overall [the bike’s] been really good… the track was gnarly tonight. There were a lot of rocks coming out, even in the faces of the jumps, so you had to be careful.”

Haiden Deegan was third in 250cc Supercross and said “Congrats to Juju, that was a good race on him. My race was just embarrassing, I’m sorry you had to watch that. I just got a little pumped up in the beginning and it just [got worse] from there. All I can do is work harder this week and come out swinging.”

From left, Alex Marquez, Nadia Padovani and Fermin Aldeguer. Photo courtesy MotoGP.com

Gresini Racing’s new MotoGP™ project has finally been unveiled, with Alex Marquez and Fermin Aldeguer shining as bright as ever today at the Imola International Circuit for this season’s presentation. A younger line-up and pastel blue, now combined with a new, ‘swaggering’ chromed tint are the main novelties for the new year, in which Gresini Racing aim to continue battling at the sharp end of the field.

There was time during the presentation to remember team founder Fausto and complete a couple of laps of the Imola circuit, but also to enjoy a Gresini-Racing history museum and a movie-themed tunnel, in memory of the team’s recent past. It was a journey between distant and recent past to introduce a future as exciting as this year’s Desmosedici GP24 machines.

#73 Alex Marquez: “I’m starting the third consecutive year with the team, and I must admit this winter was a very long one. The year finished on a high and it’s almost time to return to action. The new colours are incredible, and I hope everyone likes them. We’d love these colours to come with great results and from my side, I did everything I could this off season to be as physically and mentally prepared as possible for 2025.”

#54 Fermin Aldeguer: “It is a first for me on several levels, and my first team presentation as a MotoGP rider. The new livery of the bike is fantastic and very aggressive, and I think it reflects well the spirit of this team, who for many years have proven to be a great institution. The desire to take to the track is high, but this unveiling is already a big step forward towards this 2025 season.”

Nadia Padovani, Team Owner Gresini Racing: “We’re leaving behind a great 2024, and we embrace with great motivation a 2025 in which the expectations remain high. We have a team with plenty of experience, two very talent riders, and we’re eager to continue to surprise as we’ve done from 2022 until now… Fermin has just arrived, but he already found a place in our hearts, while I believe Alex can and must battle for the top five in each race weekend. We’re extremely happy with this new project and the bike has a special touch with a bit of chrome touch everywhere. We’re ready!”

American Garret Gerloff (31) is testing with the official Kawasaki WorldSBK Teamfor two days at Jerez. Kawasaki Europe photo.

A 2025 KTM 390 SMC R. Photo by Rudi Schedl/courtesy KTM.

First appointment from February 5th to 7th in Malaysia, at the Sepang International Circuit, when the Ducati Lenovo Team riders will be on track for the first official testing session (Shakedown test – Sepang International Circuit – January 31st/February 2nd – Michele Pirro).

The San Diego Supercross pays points for both the 17-round Monster Energy AMA Supercross season and the 31-round SMX World Championship™.
