More, from a press release issued by MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR):
O’Halloran bounces back from early crash to top Thruxton free practice times
Jason O’Halloran leads his Bennetts British Superbike Championship rivals into tomorrow’s eBay Sprint race at Thruxton as the McAMS Yamaha rider recovered from his crash in the opening session to top the times by 0.072s.
The Australian had captured the position at the top in the final five minutes of the second session where just 0.9s covered the top 15 riders. O’Halloran upped the pace to push Peter Hickman back into second. Ray’s best lap time though came on his final lap of the session, surging into second and it was enough to nudge Tom Sykes on the MCE Ducati outside of the top three.

The former World Champion had his best opening day of the season in fourth place, just ahead of Honda Racing UK’s Glenn Irwin who completed the top five with Kyle Ryde holding sixth position at the chequered flag.
Danny Kent was the second of the former World Champions to feature in the top ten, holding seventh place for the Buildbase Suzuki team, maintaining his position ahead of Lee Jackson on the leading Cheshire Mouldings FS-3 Kawasaki.

Tommy Bridewell was ninth fastest at his home round for the Oxford Products Racing Ducati team, just 0.004s adrift of Jackson ahead of him with Ryan Vickers completing the top ten on the FHO Racing BMW with Attis Sports.

“That’s day one at Thruxton done, I had good speed on new tyres and good pace on old tyres so I already feel really comfortable on the bike.
“The first session we just used one tyre, but felt strong.
“I had a little tip off at the end which was my first crash for the year, I just tucked the front going into the Complex which was not ideal but the bike wasn’t too damaged so it was all cool.
“This afternoon we just worked on a new setting and continued working for the races. I am feeling really strong and can’t wait for tomorrow.”

Normally, MotoAmerica Superbike and Supersport racers are prohibited from testing and/or racing at venues immediately preceding MotoAmerica events, but by rule, participation in endurance races is not restricted.

Camacho Breaks Track Record At Eagles Canyon Raceway
JC Camacho Takes his Second Track Record of the Season at Eagles Canyon Raceway
Fifth Track Record of 2022 for the Pirelli DIABLO Superbike Range
ATLANTA – Pirelli Tire North America captured its fifth absolute motorcycle track record of the 2022 season with JC Camacho at Eagles Canyon Raceway in Decatur, Texas. The new lap record of 1:54.836 came during the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) series on Sunday, August 7. It marked the second track record of the season for Camacho who relied on the performance of Pirelli’s DIABLO Superbike slicks.
“That’s two track records on the board this year,” said Camacho. “We did it once at Cresson and backed it up again at Eagles Canyon Raceway this past weekend. It’s a huge win for us! I think we’ve really found something with the way the bike is working and the Pirelli tire options we have from track to track are a huge piece of the puzzle. Only time will tell when we hit the track again, but I’m pumped to keep the momentum rolling!”
Camacho’s new lap record was set in the Formula 1 Expert class using Pirelli’s DIABLO Superbike SC1 125/70R17 front and DIABLO Superbike SC0 200/65R17 rear slicks aboard his Kawasaki Ninja® ZX™-10R.
“Another weekend, another record! JC has been on a roll lately and putting in some impressive rides at each racetrack he visits,” said Oscar Solis, Senior Racing Manager, Pirelli. “The competition between all the riders is pretty cool and now JC and Stefano Mesa are tied at two track records apiece this season. We can’t wait to see who the first rider is to reach three with their DIABLO Superbike slicks!”
Camacho’s second lap record of the season comes just one week after Vasiliy Zhulin set a new lap record around NC Bike. Racers across North America continue to showcase Pirelli’s DIABLO Superbike range as the go-to tire choice for setting lap records and reaching the top step of the podium when a spec tire rule is not implemented. Reward prizes are offered to riders who set a new motorcycle track record while using Pirelli race compound tires.

British Superbike: Tito Rabat Racing This Weekend At Thruxton
The heat is on: Thruxton set for Bennetts BSB scorcher in fight for Showdown spots
The Bennetts British Superbike Championship returns to Thruxton for the fastest round on its calendar this weekend (12/13/14 August) and the heat is on to be inside the top-eight in the standings ahead of the Showdown in just nine races’ time.
The high-speed Hampshire circuit has traditionally produced some of the closest races of the season and McAMS Yamaha’s Jason O’Halloran leads the standings into the event where he was a triple winner last year.
The ‘O’Show’ was victorious in the opening race last time out at Brands Hatch but it was his teammate Tarran Mackenzie who did the double in races two and three. The reigning champion proved that he is back to full fitness after injury and he intends to get his title defence firmly back on track.
The Cheshire Mouldings FS-3 Kawasaki pairing of Lee Jackson and Rory Skinner lock out the next two positions as they bid to consolidate their position in the standings, whilst Kyle Ryde and Silverstone treble winner Glenn Irwin complete the top-six ahead of three races across Saturday and Sunday.
Home hero Tommy Bridewell wants to put his past woes at Thruxton behind him and put on a strong show for his local crowd; his Winchester-based Oxford Products Racing Ducati team also has high hopes for the weekend ahead.
After his victory double last month, when he became the sixth different race winner of the season, Mackenzie holds the final place in the top-eight.
A total of ten riders have claimed podium finishes so far this season, but Peter Hickman, Danny Buchan and Josh Brookes are just outside of the leading eight positions and have all been podium finishers at this weekend’s venue in the past.
This weekend also marks the much-anticipated Bennetts BSB race debut of 2014 Moto2 Grand Prix World Champion Tito Rabat with the TAG Honda team, as he becomes the third World Champion to join the grid.
The Barcelona-based contender has also most recently been a race winner in the Spanish Superbike Championship riding for the LaGlisse Honda team.
Bennetts British Superbike Championship standings:
- Jason O’Halloran (McAMS Yamaha) 265
- Bradley Ray (Rich Energy OMG Racing Yamaha) 255
- Lee Jackson (Cheshire Mouldings FS-3 Kawasaki) 187
- Rory Skinner (Cheshire Mouldings FS-3 Kawasaki) 174
- Kyle Ryde (Rich Energy OMG Racing Yamaha) 170
- Glenn Irwin (Honda Racing UK) 156
- Tommy Bridewell (Oxford Products Racing Ducati) 137
- Tarran Mackenzie (McAMS Yamaha) 105

Jason O’Halloran
McAMS Yamaha
Championship leader
“I am really looking forward to Thruxton; I have really good memories of there from last year when we did the triple win, which was good. It is a track that I enjoy, the fastest on the calendar that we go to, we don’t get to ride it as much as the others so once a year it is always something to look forward to.
“The Yamaha works really well at Thruxton; it is always a different type of race. It is one of the only races in the year where it is more about strategy rather than how fast you can go in the race.
“I expect a big challenge this year there from everyone; it is one that riders seem to enjoy and go well at. Coming off the back of Brands where we set the fastest lap of the weekend to get pole position, won on Sunday and had a 1-2 for McAMS Yamaha in both races, so it was an amazing weekend for the team. It was also a really good points and podium points score for us.
“We are improving the feeling with the bike all of the time and feeling really strong coming into the right part of the year, so I am looking forward to the next few rounds and trying to win some more races.”
Tommy Bridewell
Oxford Products Racing Ducati
“Coming into the home round as always I am excited, but for some reason, and I don’t know why, I genuinely feel probably more excited than I ever have done going into Thruxton. I think it is because we have obviously been getting our head around this new spec of bike and some circuits I have expected to be really strong and it has actually been harder than I thought. Other tracks I have expected to be a lot weaker at, we have actually been really strong.
“I am hoping the love-hate relationship with Thruxton is at an end and it just becomes a love-love relationship because I genuinely would love nothing more than to just have a good, strong show for my home crowd.
“I am not saying I am going to win three races but I am optimistic and positive that I hope we are able to try and fight for the podium as that is the goal.
“I think coming off of a strong weekend at Brands Hatch, the team are still working to try and get that next step. I think it is a big element of the weekend in all honesty is also just trying to consolidate as many points as possible as the Showdown is creeping up.
“We are in a strong position for it, but we also can’t afford to have a bad weekend. I want to fight for the podium but I also want to come away from the weekend with three, strong points-scoring results.”
Experienced Firm Selected For Laguna Seca Repaving Project
WELCOME RACE FANS: GRANITE GETS TOP SPOT FOR CONTRACT AT ICONIC WEATHERTECH RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA
WATSONVILLE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)--Granite (NYSE:GVA) announced today that it has been awarded an approximately $12 million dollar construction contract for various improvement projects at the historic WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. The classic track, constructed in 1957, has hosted numerous car and motorcycle racing championships, cycling events, antique car gatherings, concerts, and more. The contract was awarded and will be funded by the County of Monterey. The award was included in Granite’s second quarter CAP.
The new contract adds to Granite’s recent raceway work, which includes the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, the Thermal Club and the BMW Performance Center in Thermal, California, and the Honda Proving Center in Cantil, California.
The project scope consists of resurfacing the entire track and replacing the existing start-finish bridge and starters platform. This includes the construction of a prefabricated steel truss pedestrian bridge with concrete decking and concrete bridge footings and abutments, concrete pedestrian walkways, ramps, and stairs, hand railing, chain link fencing, mechanically stabilized earth walls, cast-in-place walls, as well as related drainage improvements and utility relocations. In addition, the project will reconstruct the raceway’s pit lane. The track was last resurfaced in 2007.
“Laguna Seca is an absolutely iconic feature of the Monterey Peninsula, and this project gives Granite the opportunity to be part of the history of the circuit,” said Steve Kaesler, Granite construction manager. “We have a long relationship with Monterey County and are grateful to grow that relationship further with this project. The replacement of the start-finish bridge and track resurfacing is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our connection to the community here on the peninsula.”
Granite’s Salinas facility will provide the hot mix asphalt for the project and Granite’s Handley Quarry will provide aggregate and import backfill.
The project is expected to begin in November 2022 and anticipated to be completed by June 2023.

UtahSBA: Lopez Wins Rain-Shortened Feature Race
Round 5 of the Utah Motorcycle Law Masters of the Mountains series was held on Saturday August 6th on the Utah Motorsports Campus’ Perimeter track configuration.
Racing kicked off on Saturday morning with two qualifying sessions for the afternoon’s premier race, Moto United KOM GTU/Moto Station-Pirelli KOM GTO. Few contenders chose to participate in the first qualifying session but previous winner Genaro Lopez set a fast lap of 1:57. Qualifying session two saw almost the full field of competitors take to the track in an effort to best Lopez’s lap time from session one. The early fast lap time in session two was set by Ryan Richardson with a lap time of 2:01 with Kellen Birch posting a time of 2:01.837. Later in session two Richardson dropped his qualifying time to 1:59. Late in the session second place points holder Dave Meyer posted a lap time of 2:01.331 to squeak by Birch for the third place qualifying spot. Lopez’s lap time from session one held and the front row for the race would be Lopez, Richardson, and Meyer.
In the Mechanic Modern Vintage GTO/GTU race, GTU points leader Josh Fisher struggled to control a huge wheelie off the start, allowing Braxton Young to take the hole shot into Turn One. After Fisher regained control he tucked in behind Young in Turns Two through Four, ultimately making a pass for the lead in Turn Five. The lead group of Fisher and Young controlled the race from there and came home in first and second respectively. Farther back in the pack, racers Brian Gerwe, Kirk Doyle, and Don Rothfuss had a heated three way battle for positions third through fifth on lap two exchanging positions multiple times. At the start of lap three Doyle in third led Gerwe in fourth, with Rothfuss losing the pace and falling behind in fifth. Eventually Gerwe passed Doyle to secure a podium spot, the final top three being Fisher, Young, Gerwe.
In the Moto United Open Super Stock race Richardson was on pole and got a great jump off the line and led Birch and Cole Phillips into turn one. Birch was unable to hold Phillips off for long and Phillips moved into second by the end of lap one. Richardson opened a large gap out front and cruised unchallenged for the win. Meanwhile, Alex Zinaich in fourth would close the gap to Birch in third in Turn Five on lap two. Phillips, Birch, and Zinaich were tip to tail leading into Turns Eight and Nine. Zinaich proved unable to match the pace ahead and drifted back, leaving Birch and Phillips to fight for second. On the last lap of the race Birch closed the gap to Phillips on the front straight and stalked him for the rest of the lap, ultimately trying an unsuccessful last turn pass attempt. As the checkered flag flew the final order was Richardson, Phillips, and Birch. After the race Richardson commented on the win, “I could see that I had a nice gap so I just tried to back it down, not take any unnecessary risks, and practice hitting my marks ahead of this afternoon’s King of the Mountains Race. I’m racing the MotoAmerica round at Pittsburgh so I need to thank all the people who are helping to make that happen: My dad, Trackstar, Dunlop, Crossbeam Builders, Moto United, E.C.S. Heating and Air, Moto United, Utah Motorcycle Law, and Kawasaki/Team Green.”
Moto United KOM GTU/Moto Station-Pirelli GTO King of the Mountain series points leader Anthony Norton was injured in an earlier crash and was forced to sit out Round 5 and plan on returning for Round 6. With Norton absent there were three riders all within striking distance of the number one plate all looking to close the points gap. When the starting lights went out, Richardson got off to a great start and beat other front row competitors Lopez and Meyer into Turn One. Lopez passed Richardson in Turn Five and posted a 1:56.665 lap time on lap two. Richardson in second was close enough to make it interesting, but with a best lap time of 1:57.038 he remained in second throughout the race and Lopez and Richardson finished in first and second. In the battle for third Birch passed Meyer on lap three. Further back, Cole Phillips was able to use the draft to pull within inches of Remington Mathews’ fender on the front straight of lap four. It took several laps but Phillips successfully overtook Mathews on lap six for fifth position. The following lap Phillips and Meyer traded places twice but Meyer ultimately came out ahead in fourth. On lap seven the rain began to fall and worsened until the race was red flagged on lap eight, two laps short of full race distance. The top three were Lopez, Richardson, and Birch, this being Birch’s first time on the podium this season. In a post race interview Lopez wished to thank his wife, parents, and his family and friends. He also wanted to extend special thanks to the Motostation team and Pirelli for “giving me the winning package. Without them I would not be anywhere closer than I am now. Hopefully I can keep giving them good results.”
As the track fell silent, racers, family, and sponsors gathered around the barbeque to chew the fat and make plans for Round 6, which will be held at Utah Motorsports Campus on the West track configuration on September 3rd. As always the Utah Sport Bike Association races with the help of our dedicated volunteers and generous sponsors. We can’t thank you all enough and we couldn’t do it without you. We look forward to seeing you all again at Round 4 in September.
The Utah Sport Bike Association is a Utah Non-Profit dedicated to promoting education, safe riding, and competition in the Intermountain West. You can find more information about the USBA, upcoming events, and schools at www.utahsba.com or find us on Facebook.

British Superbike: O’Halloran Rebounds From Crash To Lead FP2 At Thruxton
Editorial Note: Americans Julian Correa and Eli Banish were 11th and 28th, respectively, in British Talent Cup FP2 at Thruxton.
BSB FP2

Bennetts British Superbike Championship, Thruxton, SUPERPICKS Combined Free Practice times:

“That’s day one at Thruxton done, I had good speed on new tyres and good pace on old tyres so I already feel really comfortable on the bike.
“The first session we just used one tyre, but felt strong.
“I had a little tip off at the end which was my first crash for the year, I just tucked the front going into the Complex which was not ideal but the bike wasn’t too damaged so it was all cool.
“This afternoon we just worked on a new setting and continued working for the races. I am feeling really strong and can’t wait for tomorrow.”
