MotoGP: Seen During The 2023 Pre-Season Test At Valencia

By Michael Gougis

MotoGP teams opened the 2023 pre-season at Valencia with new equipment, new riders, and new team members. The traditional post-race test in Spain is the last chance for the factory engineers to test their concepts before starting to produce machines during the winter break. It is also typically the first chance for rookies to come to terms with the power of a MotoGP machine, as well as the first chance for riders swapping manufacturers to come to grips with their new mounts.

Former Suzuki riders Alex Rins and Joan Mir rode a Honda RC213V for the first time today, while 2022 Moto2 World Champion Augusto Fernandez moved up to the GASGAS Tech3 RC16 to partner with Pol Espargaro, formerly of Repsol Honda.

Raul Fernandez moved from a KTM to an Aprilia in the new RNF MotoGP Team, alongside fellow KTM expatriate Miguel Oliveira. Former factory Ducati rider Jack Miller moved to the factory KTM squad, while Alex Marquez left the LCR Honda team for the Gresini Ducati seat vacated by Enea Bastianini, who moved to the factory Ducati team.

Honda mixed and matched aerodynamic devices. New Repsol Honda rider Joan Mir rode bikes with two different types of front wings, with and without the lower fairing ducts, and had two different chassis to test. One appeared identical to the chassis used by Marc Marquez and Pol Espargaro in Sunday's race, while another appeared similar to the chassis used by Takaaki Nakagami in Sunday's race. HRC had the new wing on the fairing without the lower ducting, as used by Marquez in Sunday's race. The wing used by Espargaro was not seen on the test bikes on Tuesday. Note the wing in the foreground, with a split upper element and a loop down to a lower element. Note also that the device looks like it was hastily 3-D printed. Photo by Michael Gougis.

Indian Motorcycle also moved the speedometer up for easier viewing and added a new clutch for improved feel and performance. With the new tank panel design, as seen on FTR Sport, and the addition of bold, vibrant colors, the refreshed FTR further broadens the appeal of the FTR lineup to more riders. The FTR is available in Metallic Black, contrasted by Lifted Lime branding with matching rear shock, and Stealth Gray, featuring Orange Burst branding, rear shock and wheels. Finally, the FTR Rally features 19- and 18-inch cast wheels wrapped with knobby tires. The FTR Rally is available in new Black Smoke paint, Desert Earth frame, and the iconic Indian Motorcycle Headdress logo emblazed across the tank. Pricing for the FTR lineup begins at $13,499.

2023 LINEUP: A Diverse Range for Any Rider

Touting a wider range of models and options than ever before, the 2023 Indian Motorcycle line offers a model suited for any rider and a host of new upgrades, including:

·       All Thunderstroke and PowerPlus models receive a new clutch – improving the overall feel and forgiveness. This new slipper clutch reduces engine drag which provides a smoother down shifting experience and comfortable ride while improving your ability to maintain traction when facing poor road conditions. Lastly, the larger friction zone and decreased lever effort reduces your clutch fatigue, which can be beneficial in urban areas or when riding in traffic.

·       Indian Springfield, Chieftain, Indian Challenger, Roadmaster and Indian Pursuit models feature a redesigned LED headlight, which improves reach and spread of light — helping the rider see what lies ahead, while also improving their visibility to other motorists on the road.

·       Integrated buttons on the Heated Seats and Heated and Cooled Seats for PowerPlus and heavyweight Thunderstroke models now feature haptics, which allow riders to feel the button’s responsive when wearing gloves.

Indian Pursuit with Premium Package models now offer Lower Fairing Storage compartments as standard.

·       Models with the four-inch round touchscreen display can now tie their RIDE COMMAND account from the Indian Motorcycle app or website to their bike, allowing app and web-accessible features like vehicle health, vehicle locator and ride tracking.

Across the line, Indian Motorcycle has introduced an array of new paint colors, including Sagebrush Smoke on Chief Dark Horse and Stryker Red Metallic on Scout Bobber Sixty, Chief Bobber and Roadmaster Limited models. Spirit Blue Metallic is a new color option on Chieftain Limited and Indian Pursuit models, while Titanium Smoke is introduced to Indian Challenger Dark Horse models. For a comprehensive view of the lineup’s new paint colors, please visit IndianMotorcycle.com.

For 2023, Indian Motorcycle is introducing an array of functional accessories. First, in partnership with CruzTOOLS®, Indian Motorcycle is launching three accessories, including two tool kits compatible with all models and an axle adapter for FTR models. To add storage to most models, a new All-Weather Vinyl Tailbag attaches to select passenger seats or luggage racks. In addition, a new Syndicate Heated Seat is available for Indian Challenger models, while a Reduced Reach Kickstand is now available for all Indian Challenger and Indian Pursuit models.

For the Chief line, Indian Motorcycle is launching two new bag options. The Chief Fork Bag attaches securely to the front of the handlebars and is perfect for storing smaller items like gloves, glasses, cell phones or water bottles. The new Chief Bobber Saddlebags are water-resistant and add convenient storage without sacrificing style.

For added comfort, Indian Motorcycle is offering Chief riders an upgraded Comfort+ Solo Seat and a two-up Syndicate Seat. The Comfort+ Solo Seat pulls design inspiration from old-school muscle car interiors. The top is more plush than the stock seat and contours to hold the rider securely and comfortably. The new Chief Syndicate Seat complements the bike’s distinct design, while adding comfort and support for both rider and passenger. The Syndicate Seat is made with a durable, weather-resistant black vinyl that won’t fade.

For Chief passengers, Indian Motorcycle is introducing the Low Profile Passenger Backrest, which complements the bike’s style and adds cushioned support to the passenger’s posterior.

Lastly, the new Quick Release Low Profile Trunk for bagger and touring models is expanding its colorway options. The streamlined Low Profile Trunk will now be available in 58 factory colors.

Initial model year 2023 shipping will vary by model. In the coming weeks, new 2023 bagger and touring models will begin shipping to dealers. New 2023 Scout models will start shipping in December. Riders can learn more or test ride by visiting a local Indian Motorcycle dealership. Suzuki’s All-New V-STROM 800DE Features New Parallel Twin Engine

Suzuki Launches the All-New 2023 V-STROM 800DE

Brea, CA (November 8, 2022) – The resounding success of the V-Strom product line has opened a new chapter with the all-new 2023 V-STROM 800DE line. A new product destined to advance a rider’s adventure. The growth and evolution of the V-STROM series has continued since the line’s introduction twenty years ago. The new 800 V-STROMs feature the same all-around capabilities as Suzuki’s recently launched V-STROM 1050DE, but in a smaller displacement bike, offering middleweight performance, precise handling, and a wide set of features.

The V-STROM’s enduring popularity since 2002 has resulted in strong global sales results. To date, worldwide sales have totaled more than 440,000 units. And now the all-new V-STROM 800DE is ready to break new ground once again.

With the all-new V-STROM 800DE, Suzuki focused on advancing a rider’s adventure, while delivering on the needs of a broader V-STROM customer base. In response to these demands, Suzuki engineers’ objective was to design the ideal adventure  package, with engine and frame size optimized for spirited adventure riding. Offering features that advance pure riding excitement no matter the adventure. A new level of versatility and performance was the goal.

To realize these diverse needs, multiple optimization tests were fielded, and consumer feedback was analyzed and implemented to achieve a balance between several factors. The new V-STROM 800DE’s design and specs were finalized through this strategic and constructive process. Resulting in an ideal package for riders.

With the ideal package realized, the V-STROM 800DE features Suzuki’s brand-new parallel twin 776cc DOHC, 4-valve-per-cylinder engine, a rugged new steel frame, the longest amount of suspension travel, and the tallest ground clearance of any V-STROM model ever.

Every aspect of the design is geared to satisfy riders demanding more power than a 650cc class bike may deliver, with the ability to tour comfortably, and confidently explore riding adventures no matter the road.

Key Features

• New, compact 776cc parallel-twin engine uses a 270-degree firing order for strong torque delivery and is equipped with Suzuki’s exclusive Cross Balancer system for smooth operation.

• Equipped with the longest suspension and highest ground clearance of any V-Strom model, the V-STROM 800DE has a 21-inch front wheel for true off-road capability.

• The Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) includes Traction Control* with a trail-oriented GRAVEL mode plus rider-adjustable ABS** with two levels of sensitivity plus the ability to switch off the rear wheel ABS when riding off-road.

• New technology, Mono-focus LED headlights are vertically stacked with a position light below a trim, height-adjustable windscreen, while a multifunction full-color TFT instrument panel delivers a wealth of information.

• Visually stunning, the all-new angular bodywork retains Suzuki’s distinctive Adventure “beak” and is available in Champion Yellow No. 2 or Glass Matte Mechanical Gray topped with new, subtle graphics. The V-STROM 800DE Adventure is available in the popular Glass Sparkle Black color scheme.

2023 V-STROM 800DE / Adventure Models

The V-STROM 800DE’s is designed to “Advance Your Adventure.” This conveys the V-STROM 800DE makes every ride feel like an interesting adventure, the type of adventure riders find inspiring and fun, whether that ride is a simple commute, conquering a scenic fire road, or experiencing an epic cross-country tour.

The V-STROM 800DE builds on the solid legacy earned by other models in the V-STROM family yet offers something different for riders seeking more power and advanced features than on the V-STROM 650.

Highlighted V-STROM 800DE features include increased suspension travel and taller ground clearance, wide tapered aluminum handlebars, a uniquely shaped aluminum swingarm, a 21-inch front wheel, inverted front forks, and a color TFT LCD multifunction instrument panel. All advancing adventure seamlessly.

The V-STROM 800DE also features advanced electronic control systems such as Suzuki Drive Mode Selector, the Suzuki Traction Control System* with G (Gravel) mode, Rear ABS** OFF mode, and Suzuki’s Bi-directional Quick Shift system.

New Parallel-Twin Engine:

• The new design 776cc parallel-twin DOHC engine delivers a superb balance of smooth controllable torque-rich power from low RPM and freely revs up to its peak power output.

• The 270-degree crankshaft configuration provides similar power delivery characteristics as the 90-degree V-twins used in other V-Strom models, while producing a unique and exciting exhaust note.

• The spaced nature of the engine’s power pulses enhances traction and contributes to strong power output at low speeds, making the V-STROM 800DE easier to control on forest roads and trails.

• Suzuki Cross Balancer technology, used for the first time on a production motorcycle, helps create a compact, lightweight design delivering smoother operation.

• The pistons were developed using FEM (Infinite Element Method) analysis to maximize strength and minimize weight.

• The 84mm cylinder bores inside the aluminum die-cast cylinders are plated using Suzuki’s Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) process. Originally developed for racing and proven on the track, the SCEM cylinder promotes better heat dissipation, reduces friction, and provides a wear-resistant seal to the pistons’ rings.

• Dual, linked 42mm electronic throttle bodies provide an authentic response and feel to the rider’s throttle operation further advancing the adventure experience.

• The V-STROM 800DE employs two ten-hole, long-nose, 49 PSI (343kpa) high-pressure-feed fuel injectors maximizing fuel atomization for better combustion efficiency and lower fuel use.

• The 6.0L air cleaner box shape and intake pipe lengths were created using computer-aided design to help maximize peak power output plus stronger torque production at low engine speed. Positioned under the seat, the air box size and shape contribute to the V-STROM 800DE’s slim and compact chassis.

• The stainless-steel 2-into-1 exhaust system uses a high-flow, dual-stage catalytic converter inside the mid-pipe that helps satisfy worldwide emissions standards. A long, upswept muffler is attractive, provides a throaty exhaust note, and is well-positioned for accessory mounting.

• A large-capacity radiator effectively cools the V-STROM 800DE’s parallel twin. A thermostatically controlled cooling fan helps stabilize coolant temperatures at low speed and stops.

• The unique cooling system inlet control thermostat valve helps maintain consistent engine temperature and smooths the idle speed during warm-up. This helps stabilize combustion and contributes to reduced exhaust emissions.

• The V-STROM 800DE is also equipped with a lightweight, compact liquid-cooled oil cooler to help reduce oil temperatures for smooth and reliable engine operation. The Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) helps reduce fatigue on long rides and increases smoother shifting.

SUZUKI Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) Features:

• A Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS) that supports the rider in matching performance to the riding and road conditions, or the rider’s preferred riding style.

• In addition to its 3 standard mode settings (+ OFF), Suzuki Traction Control System (STCS) for the V-STROM 800DE introduces G (Gravel) mode as a fourth setting, designed to help riders better negotiate gravel roads and flat trails.

• Suzuki’s ride-by-wire electronic throttle control system offers throttle action that responds faithfully to the rider’s every input.

• Suzuki’s legendary and precise Bi-directional Quick Shift System (with ON/OFF settings) provides quicker, smoother, more assured shifting, without operating the clutch while in motion.

• The ABS system features a choice of two mode settings for differing road conditions, as well as a Rear ABS OFF mode, helping offer more rider control over braking on gravel.

• The Suzuki Easy Start System starts the engine with one quick press of the starter button.

• Suzuki’s Low RPM Assist function helps maintain engine idle speed for smoother and easier starts.

V-STROM 800DE Chassis:

• Designed around the new, compact parallel twin engine and constructed with rugged steel pipe, the V-STROM 800DE’s backbone style frame is engineered to provide the strength needed for excellent straight-line stability and nimble handling when negotiating rugged trails or touring at highway speeds.

• The engine is precisely fit into the frame to create a rigid chassis that also provides the compliance required for a variety of riding adventures.

• The removable steel sub-frame has a narrow seat rail width that results in a slim seat profile that helps riders control the motorcycle with their legs.

• The frame and engine package helps create an off-road friendly chassis geometry with a long wheelbase and rake, tall ground clearance, and a wide handlebar grip.

• The engine’s short length permits an ergonomic design that places the rider’s hip point further forward than it would be on a V-twin powered motorcycle. This enables riders to shift their weight forward to enhance control over rough terrain and when negotiating tight corners.

• Matched to the V-STROM 800DE’s chassis geometry and long suspension is a new, uniquely shaped aluminum swingarm that enhances vertical, lateral, and torsional rigidity to aid straight-line stability and controlled cornering.

• Developed exclusively for the V-STROM 800DE, the front fork and single-shock rear suspensions’ spring rate, valve, and piston settings tuned to maximize performance and comfort when riding on all surfaces, on- or off-road.

• With a long 8.7-inch (220mm) front fork suspension stroke and 8.7-inch (220mm) of rear wheel travel, this chassis has the most suspension travel ever available on a V-Strom model.

• The long travel suspension and the compact chassis net 8.7-inches (220mm) of ground clearance, the most of any V-Strom model.

• The side stand and optional center stand are both designed to match the motorcycle’s tall ground clearance.

• The SHOWA-supplied inverted style fork has adjustable spring preload plus both compression and rebound damping force adjustment so the suspension may be fine-tuned to match the rider’s preference or the riding conditions.

• Also supplied by SHOWA, the shock absorber in the link-type rear suspension has a remote gas reservoir to stabilize operation on rigorous or long rides.

• The shock absorber has a remote hydraulic preload adjuster so the spring rate may be adjusted quickly by hand when adding a passenger or cargo.

• In addition to the spring preload adjuster, the shock absorber also features adjustable compression and rebound damping force that may be tuned to match the conditions or rider preference.

• The V-STROM 800DE rides on sturdy spoke-style wheels and is equipped with a 21-inch front wheel for greater stability and better control off pavement. The rear 17-inch wheel accepts larger tires for better grip and ride compliance. Both wheels feature aluminum rims laced with stainless steel spokes that better absorb shock from irregular road surfaces.

• The new 90/90-21 front and 150/70R17 rear Dunlop TRAILMAX MIXTOUR tires feature a new semi-block tread pattern with long, straight diagonal grooves to provide traction off-road while reducing sound on paved roads.

• The aggressive-looking tread features wider, deeper grooves exclusive to the V-STROM 800DE that help achieve an optimal balance between on-road handling and longevity, and nimble handling on unpaved trails.

• The wheels are tube-type to provide the tires ample support for aggressive riding on paved and unpaved surfaces.

• Suzuki selected brake components best suited to the V-STROM 800DE’s suspension and spoke-style wheels to provide controlled stopping power whether on the road or out on the trail

• The front brakes use a pair of strong, but lightweight dual-piston NISSIN-supplied front brake calipers grasping 310mm floating-mount discs.

• The front calipers are axial mounted to provide ample clearance to the front wheel’s spokes while allowing for strong and light axle holders at the bottom of each fork leg.

• The rear brake combines a single-piston, slide-pin style NISSIN caliper with a 260mm disc, providing the rider with precise braking control and aiding low-speed maneuvering.

• Compact Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)** monitors wheel speed to match braking to available traction.

• The rider can select from two levels of ABS sensitivity and can elect to switch off the rear wheel’s ABS function for off-road use (see the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) section for more information).

• The V-STROM 800DE has a wide tapered handlebar cast in strong yet flexible aluminum that allows it to flex and absorb shock when riding on unpaved surfaces. In addition, the wider grip position helps provide enhanced control, particularly when standing on the foot pegs to negotiate rough terrain.

• In addition to the practical purpose of helping shield the rider’s hands from the elements as well as flying stones, the standard equipment hand guards signal the V-STROM 800DE’s adventure capability.

• Both the clutch and front brake levers have adjustment knobs so the rider may quickly set them to a comfortable reach. The shifter and rear brake pedal may also be adjusted to the rider’s preference.

• The mirrors’ design complements the V-STROM 800DE’s styling while proving an excellent view of objects behind the rider.

• Wide, steel footrests help the rider comfortably maneuver the V-STROM 800DE on diverse types of roads. Rubber inserts damp vibration but may be removed, providing the rider’s boots with even more grip on the pegs.

• Designed for performance and comfort, the one-piece seat is built upon a strong, but lightweight base that helps keep seat height reasonable. The seat bottom, dense foam, and slip-resistant cover stand up to rigorous use while still providing all-day touring comfort for the rider and passenger.

• The fuel tank has a generous 5.3-gallon (20L) capacity but is shaped to be thin at the rear to flow into the slim seat, which aids the rider in touching the ground at stops.

• The internal construction and cap of the fuel tank were engineered so the gasoline capacity is the same for both the 49-state and California versions.

• The modest windscreen is designed to maximize the rider’s visibility when riding on roads or trails. Developed through wind tunnel testing, the windscreen deflects wind blast and sounds away from the rider.

• The windscreen’s mount provides for 3-step height adjustment that may be set in 0.6-inch (15mm) increments (using a hex-type tool).

• The lightweight resin luggage rack incorporates easy-to-grasp grab bars and aligns with the passenger section of the seat, offering a larger surface for carrying cargo or luggage.

• The cargo section of the rack was designed to make the installation of a Suzuki Genuine Accessory top case simple and secure.

• A new, standard item is a mesh guard to protect the radiator from flying stones and other debris when riding on the trail.

• The V-STROM 800DE features a plastic undercover. This polyethylene skid plate provides engine and exhaust protection with minimal resistance when riding over rocks and rough terrain.

Brea, CA (November 8, 2022) – The 2023 GSX-8S is brand-new, engineered from the ground up to deliver streetfighter performance for a new generation that’s sure to turn heads and Make a Statement. Powerful, agile, and ready to go, the 8S offers a strong appeal to a broad range of riders, regardless of their age or riding experience.

The GSX-8S joins the Suzuki line featuring trendsetting naked sportbike styling combined with real-world performance, user-friendly electronic rider aids, confident handling, and optimized comfort.

During the development of the new GSX-8S, Suzuki followed a strategic process aimed at creating superior performance and value by focusing on rider needs. Suzuki engineers aimed for the ideal combination of engine and suspension performance, ergonomics, and features. To reach this ideal combination in one bike, multiple optimization tests were conducted, with consumer feedback given to achieve an ideal balance. The new GSX-8S was refined through a strategic and constructive process, resulting in what we believe is the ideal middleweight street bike.

The new GSX-8S features Suzuki’s brand-new parallel-twin 776cc DOHC engine mounted in a new frame design. Marking a new innovative path for future Suzuki products, the GSX-8S is a brand-new naked middleweight streetfighter with a robust engine, an agile chassis, a suite of electronic rider aids, plus stunning looks, and a smart price that’s in line with the demands of a new generation of riders. Every aspect of the motorcycle is geared to deliver a satisfying experience to riders who desire more power than a 650-class motorcycle may deliver, and who desire a satisfying ride that is exciting and dependable.

Wrapped in Suzuki’s new generation styling for the GSX line, the GSX-8S features an aggressive, mass-forward look that is slim, compact, well-balanced, and ready for action.

Key Features

• The fully new GSX-8S is a thoroughly modern street fighter design that sets a trend for an exciting new generation of Suzuki motorcycles ready to carry the brand into the future.

• New, compact 776cc parallel-twin engine uses a 270-degree firing order for strong torque production and uses Suzuki’s exclusive Cross Balancer system for smoother operation.

• The Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) smooths shifting and engine braking, while shifting has never been easier with the Bi-directional Quick Shift system.

• High-quality KYB suspension delivers controlled handling while ABS-equipped** NISSIN radial-mounted 4-piston brake calipers with dual, floating brake rotors provide controlled stopping power.

• The GSX-8S uses the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) with a three-mode Suzuki Drive Mode Selector and the four-mode Advanced Traction Control System* plus Suzuki’s popular Easy Start & Low RPM Assist systems.

• Select from Suzuki’s Pearl Cosmic Blue, Pearl Tech White, or Metallic Matte Black No. 2 / Glass Sparkle Black paint scheme – each featuring unique logos and graphics that help identify the sport’s newest performance motorcycle.

GSX-8S New Parallel-Twin Engine:

• The 270-degree crankshaft configuration provides a comparable, but more powerful experience as provided by the 90-degree V-twin engine used in the SV650 models.

• The spaced nature of the engine’s power pulses enhances traction and contributes to ample power output at extremely low speeds, making the GSX-8S easy to maneuver in slow traffic or through tight corners.

• Suzuki Cross Balancer technology, used for the first time on a production motorcycle, helps create a compact, lightweight design that delivers smooth operation.

• The pistons were developed using FEM (Infinite Element Method) analysis to maximize strength and minimize weight.

• The 84mm cylinder bores inside the aluminum die-cast cylinders are plated using Suzuki’s SCEM process. Originally developed for racing and proven on the track, the SCEM cylinder promotes better heat dissipation, reduces friction, and provides a consistent wear-resistant seal to the pistons’ rings.

• Dual, linked 42mm electronic throttle bodies use a newly configured Accelerator Position Sensor (APS) to provide an authentic response and feel to the rider’s throttle operation.

• The GSX-S8 has two ten-hole, long-nose, 49 PSI (343kpa) high-pressure-feed fuel injectors that maximize fuel atomization for better combustion efficiency and lower fuel consumption.

• The 6.0L air cleaner box shape and intake pipe lengths were created using computer-aided design to help maximize peak power output plus strong torque production at low engine speed. Positioned under the seat, the air box size and shape contribute to the GSX-S8’s slim chassis.

• The GSX-8S has a new, distinctive short muffler design that produces an exciting and unique exhaust note. Most of the exhaust system is located under the chassis in an optimal, centralized location that benefits handling.

• The stainless-steel 2-into-1 exhaust system uses a high-flow, dual-stage catalytic converter inside the mid-pipe that helps satisfy worldwide emissions standards.

• From the mid-pipe, the exhaust flows into an under-chassis chamber that has a short new muffler design with an upswept end cap that slightly protrudes from the right side of the chassis.

• The digital ignition fires iridium-type spark plugs that increase spark strength and combustion efficiency, contributing to higher power, more linear throttle response, easier engine start-up, and a more stable idle. These quality components also last longer than conventional spark plugs.

• A large-capacity radiator effectively cools the parallel twin’s power output. A thermostatically controlled cooling fan helps stabilize coolant temperatures when riding at low speed and constant stops.

• The unique cooling system inlet control thermostat valve helps maintain consistent engine temperature and smooths the idle speed during warm-up. This helps stabilize combustion and contributes to reduced exhaust emissions.

• Additional heat is removed from the engine via the use of a lightweight and compact liquid-cooled oil cooler (like those used on certain GSX-R models).

SUZUKI Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) Features:

• A Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS) supports the rider in matching performance to the riding and road conditions, or the rider’s preferred riding style.

• There are three standard mode settings in the Suzuki Traction Control System (STCS) for the GSX-8S. The settings for each mode were custom-tuned and thoroughly evaluated to maximize the GSX-8S’s capabilities as a top-performing streetfighter, with the flexibility to adapt well to changing weather, road, and riding conditions, and to make the overall riding experience exciting and enjoyable in these conditions.

• Suzuki’s ride-by-wire electronic throttle control system offers throttle action that responds faithfully to the rider’s every input.

• Suzuki’s legendary Bi-directional Quick Shift System (with ON/OFF settings) provides quicker, smoother, more assured shifting, without operating the clutch while in motion.

• The ABS system contributes to more stable braking by helping prevent the wheels from locking up, even under hard braking. The system is programmed to monitor wheel speed and match stopping power to the available traction. The ABS control unit features a compact, lightweight design that contributes to making the bike nimbler.

• The Suzuki Easy Start System starts the engine with one quick press of the starter button.

• Suzuki’s Low RPM Assist function helps maintain engine idle speed for smoother and easier starts.

GSX-8S Chassis:

• A rugged new steel frame developed for the GSX-8S contributes to comfort, straight-line stability, and nimble handling.

• The new exposed seat rails are engineered to support the rider well and contribute to the GSX-8S’ slim appearance and stripped-down look of functional beauty.

• KYB inverted front forks with a 130mm stroke deliver a plush, controllable ride and feature stable damping characteristics that make them suitable for both sports riding and long-distance rides.

• The dedicated link-type mono-shock KYB rear suspension is set up to contribute to straight-line stability and agility, even when carrying a passenger. The mechanical preload adjuster is particularly useful when heading out to ride tandem.

• Radial mount front brake calipers mated with 310mm outer diameter floating-mount dual discs provide sure stopping power and controllable braking performance. The rear brake has a 240mm outer diameter disc and uses a single-piston pin-slide caliper.

• The cast-aluminum wheels feature a unique new lightweight design that looks great and contributes to nimble handling and sporty performance.

• The GSX-8S is shod with a new generation of Dunlop RoadSport 2 radial tires (120/70ZR17 at the front; 180/55ZR17 at the rear) designed to perform optimally and provide consistent grip in a variety of street riding conditions.

• The GSX-8S uses a uniquely shaped, lightweight aluminum swingarm offering enhanced torsional rigidity to better support the increased suspension travel and contribute to straight-line riding stability.

• The fuel tank features a 14L (3.69 gals) capacity that helps deliver the right balance between riding range and slim, compact looks that heighten the appeal of the GSX-8S’ sporty styling.

• The tapered aluminum handlebars provide a sporty yet comfortable upright riding position and feature a wide enough grip to contribute to positive control when steering the GSX-8S.

• The rider’s seat is built for comfortable sport riding. Delivering solid support for the rider toward its rear edge, the seat is shaped to offer freedom of movement and is covered in durable materials that offers a positive grip.

GSX-8S Styling:

• In developing the styling for the new GSX-8S, Suzuki’s design team set a goal based on the three keywords, “New Era”, “Visual Structure”, and “Icon”.

• “New Era” reflects the goal of creating a thoroughly modern design that sets a direction for an exciting new generation of motorcycles ready to carry Suzuki into the future. The 2022 model GSX-S1000 established the beginnings of a modern design language featuring sharp lines and an edgy futuristic look.

• “Visual Structure” reflects the goal of exposing the bike’s functional parts, painting them in the new body colors, and simplifying the bodywork and graphics to put a spotlight on the visceral appeal of its structural elements.

• “Icon” seeks to create a unique silhouette with an iconic presence, instantly recognizable from a distance, and symbolizing the future of Suzuki design.

• All combined, the styling creates an appealing new mass-forward, aggressive look that is slim, compact, well-balanced, and ready for action. The new GSX-8S is set to become the naked street fighter of choice for riders of all experience levels.

Moto Guzzi Launches V9 Bobber Special Edition

MOTO GUZZI V9 BOBBER SPECIAL EDITION

THE NEW SPECIAL SERIES OF THE SPORTY CUSTOM FROM THE EAGLE BRAND FLAUNTS ITS DUAL BOLD AND ELEGANT SOUL WITH TRULY UNIQUE DETAILS

ALUMINIUM COMPONENTS, SLIP-ON EXHAUST AND A BRAND-NEW DARK LOOK ENHANCE THE CHARACTER OF A UNIQUE MOTORCYCLE

V9 Bobber is the sporty custom from Moto Guzzi that introduced the medium engine size bobber category. It’s a bike with a huge and authentic personality and a minimalistic style, characterized by the almost entirely total black look of every component and by large, oversize tires that ensure abundant contact on the ground, just like the ones mounted on the motorcycles in the second post-war American era that raced on fast dirt tracks, leading to the bobber phenomenon.

And it is precisely this authentic sporty heritage that characterizes the V9 Bobber Special Edition, the new special series from Moto Guzzi with a nocturnal look that stands out with its truly unique equipment package.

First and foremost, the new Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber Special Edition boasts a special Workshop twin-tone black and grey color scheme that enhances the metal teardrop fuel tank (which has a billet aluminum cap) and it also extends to the aluminum side panels. The bar-end mirrors mounted at the ends of the handlebar, along with the fork seals and the short front mudguard complete the equipment.

These elements amplify the sensation of perceived quality which is already high on the V9 models. The welds of the new frame and the quality of its paintwork are immaculately finished, as are the meticulous details of the 90° transverse V-twin engine, not only in terms of the casting but also the matt black that brings out the Moto Guzzi branding milled on the aluminum cylinder head covers.

It pays to look at the intimate details of this motorcycle, its touch conveying the construction tradition and culture so typical of the best Moto Guzzi models.

The unmistakable sound of the Moto Guzzi 850 twin cylinder is highlighted by the street-legal slip-on exhaust painted matte black, with the bottom in aluminum and characterized in the terminal part by a sleek, oblique shape.

Elegance and sportiness blend together in this special V9 Bobber version, characterized, as always, by a sporty, active, and extended riding position that is never sacrificed thanks to the on-board space, ideal even for the tallest riders. These qualities, along with the overall curb weight limited to just 210 kg and its seat height of just 785 mm, brilliantly emphasize the high level of comfort, control, and riding pleasure of a truly unique and unmistakable bike.

Aprilia Announces Lighter RS 660 Extrema

APRILIA RS 660 EXTREMA

A SPECIAL VERSION OF THE BEST-SELLING SPORT BIKE IN EUROPE MAKES ITS DÉBUT AT EICMA 2022: IT IS CHARACTERIZED BY AN EXCLUSIVE EQUIPMENT PACKAGE AND BEARS A NAME SYNONYMOUS WITH SPORTINESS

THE SC PROJECT EXHAUST SYSTEM, THE CARBON COMPONENTS, THE SINGLE-SEATER TAIL FAIRING, AND THE SOFTWARE FOR THE UPSIDE-DOWN GEARBOX MAKE RS 660 EXTREMA THE SPORTIEST AND LIGHTEST IN THE RANGE

Credit for the great success achieved by the RS 660, sold in 72 countries and currently the best-selling sport bike in Europe, goes to Aprilia’s fortunate 660 project, which skillfully interprets sportiness in an innovative and modern way through a range of lightweight and high performance bikes, as well as technical and electronic features usually reserved for models in higher categories to give expert riders a thrilling ride but at the same time accessible and fun even for everyday use by new riders.

Aprilia presents Extrema, the sportiest version of the current RS 660 model range. The name is reminiscent of that of the Aprilia 125 Extrema, one of the highest performances and fastest eighth-liter ever, manufactured from 1992 to 1994.

Thanks to its refined and new standard equipment, RS 660 Extrema tips the scale with an amazing curb weight of 166 kg and sets a new bar in terms of weight to power ratio (which comes in at 100 HP, a record in its class) which, as we all know, is fundamental for fun on the road and effective riding on the track.

The 2023 Aprilia RS 660 Extrema comes with a SC-Project exhaust system and other special parts. Photo courtesy Aprilia.

This milestone is achieved by the special standard equipment which includes, first and foremost, a new and lighter street-legal exhaust system by SC Project with carbon silencer positioned on the right side (and no longer beneath the engine). It also comes with the black anodized aluminum silencer bracket which allows you to remove the passenger foot pegs, leading to even lighter weight. Also contributing to the overall reduction in weight are the front mudguard and the new belly pan with a brand-new design, both made of high-quality carbon.

The sporty nature of RS 660 Extrema is also emphasized by the single-seat tail fairing, which replaces the passenger seat to enhance the sleek design of the rear area. The passenger seat comes with the bike, which maintains its two-up riding approval. In addition to the standard electronics on the RS 660 (which include traction control, cornering ABS, engine brake, engine map, and wheelie control – all adjustable) RS 660 Extrema also has software that allows you to set up quick shift in upside-down configuration. This means that the gearbox can be configured completely autonomously, without replacing any bike component, in street or race version – ideal for track days. The new dedicated white and red livery is clearly sport-inspired and contributes to making it recognizable at a glance.

Aprilia Unveils ELECTRICa Project Aimed At Younger Riders

APRILIA ELECTRICa PROJECT

THE APRILIA ELECTRICa PROJECT IS A LOOK INTO THE FUTURE OF YOUTHFUL MOBILITY; AN INNOVATIVE VISION THAT ASPIRES TO FREEDOM AND FUN, VALUES IN LINE WITH APRILIA’S FOUNDING PRINCIPLES; VALUES THAT WILL REMAIN AT THE BASE OF ALL APRILIA MODELS OF THE NEAR FUTURE

The ELECTRICa project represents Aprilia’s vision of mobility for the youngest riders of the near future. It is a window that opens towards tomorrow, a careful and competent look forward that Aprilia, always on the cutting edge of experimentation, offers the new generations to guarantee them fun in motorbike riding in any environment and without barriers.

So, as just happened with the introduction of the 660 platform, which met the demands of the youngest generation of motorbike riders to perfection with a range of high performance, lightweight, and fun motorcycles – but at the same time easy and accessible – the ELECTRICa is the original and brand-new project from Aprilia dedicated to the next generation.

The ELECTRICa project uses all the know-how made available from the Piaggio Group (that Aprilia is part of), which has been working on electric propulsion since 1975, having introduced a long line of vehicles throughout the times such as the MP3 Hybrid, the first hybrid scooter in the world.

The enormous possibilities introduced by digitalization and networks are producing a radical change in life habits for all. Because an increasing amount of activity can be carried out remotely, commuting needs will also change but moving around without barriers will remain a necessity, especially among the youngest people. The thrilling riding experience that only a bike can provide cannot be virtually replaced or reproduced. The ELECTRICa project is a new concept – a lightweight, zero emissions bike with a fun and satisfying ride to provide maximum freedom and riding pleasure even for use in the cities of the future: the fun and freedom of riding will, therefore, not be lacking and they will always be the cardinal principle at the base of all vehicles built by Aprilia, the sport bike factory par excellence.

The look is unmistakably Aprilia, especially from the front where a modern interpretation of the triple headlamp cluster typical of all Aprilias stands out to favor stark and clearly sporty lines. Accessibility is guaranteed by the compact dimensions and the low saddle height, but also by the light weight and the presence of both brake controls on the handlebar, a choice that makes the transition from scooters easier.

The electric motor is positioned in the central area and powers a chain final drive. The keyless system, the LCD instrumentation, and phonic wheels in the rims introduce the theme of technology aimed at practicality, as well as active electronic aids for a safe riding experience, an area where Aprilia has been a pioneer and is still at the top among manufacturers on a global level.

Giorgio Parodi Association Hosts Motorcycle And Air Show In Italy

The first GP Day took place in Celle Ligure; a whole day dedicated to Giorgio Parodi’s memory, the founder of Moto Guzzi from Genoa and brilliant aviator, a wonderful event with many bikers and flight lovers coming from different Italian regions.

Giorgio’s passions, motorbikes and aircrafts, led him to establish Moto Guzzi in 1921 together with his father Emanuele Vittorio, and later in 1928, to found the Aeroclub di Genova with another prominent citizen, Enrico Profumo.

Starting from the early hours in the morning, old and modern motorbikes met in front of the municipal building, with Associazione Moto Guzzi Genova friends waiting for them, while Voli di Mare seaplane started its flights with many tourists staring at the sky.

During this warm October day, models as Airone, Astore, Cardellino, Le Mans and other important pieces, part of the Italian motorcycle heritage, made a parade on Celle Ligure natural stage in a unique contest, while take-offs and ditches left intrigued the many participants to this unusual air-motorsport show.

Moto Guzzi has recently blown out 100 candles as the Italian Air Force (which Giorgio Parodi belonged to) will do in 2023. To celebrate these important anniversaries, we must not be missing two pieces by Danilo Luce, a songwriter from Abruzzo region, who has translated into music the roar of the engines on the road and in the sky. “Tutti Pazzi per la Guzzi” and “Un cuore in Volo” have become the official musical theme for every Guzzisti meeting.

The Giorgio Parodi Association, organizer, and promoter of the whole event is very fain for the success of the event and would like to express its thankful appreciation to Celle Ligure Municipality for the great support in the organization and to all associations and clubs and every single person who contributed to make really unique this day, without forgetting the Gaslini Institute, a ‘just cause’, which the fundraising was addressed to.

And now let us meet up next in 2023!

World Superbike: Jake Gagne And Attack Racing Attack The World!

Featured In the November 2022 issue of Roadracing World:

By the time the 2022 season was over in the United States, Jake Gagne and the Attack Performance Yamaha Racing team had earned a second consecutive MotoAmerica Superbike Championship.

When they were on, nobody—not even MotoGP race winner Danilo Petrucci on a bona fide factory-built Ducati Panigale Superbike—could touch them on U.S. racetracks. At this moment in history, Gagne and Attack were the best in American road racing.

Attack Racing owner Richard Stanboli has never been shy about new challenges. So when the time was right and the money was there, the team plotted to race against the best in the world…

—Attack The World! Part One, by Michael Gougis

It was something that hadn’t been seen in a very long time—an American team and rider packing up their MotoAmerica racebike and entering a World Superbike race. That’s exactly what Attack Racing did, entering as a wild card in the Superbike World Championship race at Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal.

In addition, the 2023 lineup features a variety of new color options, highlighted by vibrant color schemes for FTR and FTR Sport on newly designed tank covers.

“Fully loaded with models and styles for the widest range of riders, the 2023 lineup is a powerful testament to our team’s relentless effort to build and refine a truly comprehensive product offering over the past nine years,” said Mike Dougherty, President for Indian Motorcycle. “This effort has been focused across the line and within each model lineup, as evidenced by the introduction of the FTR Sport – the addition of which creates four unique FTR offerings, each with its own style and personality.”

FTR: An American Original

Headlining the 2023 model year news is the introduction of a new FTR mid-range trim, the FTR Sport. Replacing FTR S, the FTR Sport sits just below the premium FTR R Carbon, but above of the FTR and FTR Rally – creating four distinct trim models for riders to choose from.

New for 2023, the FTR Sport and FTR R Carbon are upgraded with a four-inch round touchscreen display powered by RIDE COMMAND, featuring navigation. The FTR R Carbon separates itself as the premium offering with carbon fiber components, premium seat, fully adjustable Öhlins gold front forks and a gold piggyback shock. The FTR Sport touts a new tank panel design and is available in Black Metallic with Indy Red accents and White Lightning with Indy Red and Black Metallic accents. The iconic Indian Script logo tank panels are exclusive to the FTR R Carbon, which is finished with a classy Cloud Silver and Championship Gold pinstriping.

While primary componentry carry-over for FTR and FTR Rally models, all four FTR models now offer a new sport exhaust muffler, and a retuned front braking system, which provides a firmer feel.

Performance Adjustable Levers will also be available in spring 2023. In addition, Indian Motorcycle has expanded its carbon fiber offering with three new pieces, including an Exhaust Heat Shield, Frame Guard and a Sprocket Cover. To enhance comfort, Indian Motorcycle has introduced a durable and weather-resistant Comfort+ Seat, which combines comfortable ergonomics with additional padding where needed most.

Indian Challenger Elite: Ultimate in Style & Exclusivity

The concept is also clearly reflected in the V- STROM 800DE’s thoroughly modern and aggressive adventure styling.
