0.041s in it: Alex Marquez fends off Acosta for Barcelona Sprint gold. The closest-ever Tissot Sprint finish sees the #73 and #37 go toe-to-toe on home soil, while drama unfolds for title-chasing Martin.

Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) vs Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing). 0.041s. The closest Tissot Sprint finish ever. And it was the sky blue of Marquez who edged out the orange of Acosta in an edge-of-your-seat Saturday blockbuster that saw Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) tumble out of contention early doors. The bronze medal went to Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team), the Italian was only 0.4s away from the victory in Barcelona.

THE START: ACOSTA HOLESHOT, BINDER & MIR CRASH

On the long run down to Turn 1, it was Acosta vs Alex Marquez for the holeshot, with the polesitter just about keeping his elbows wide enough to keep the Spanish GP winner behind him. Drama unfolded a little further back, involving Acosta’s teammate, Brad Binder. The South African, who got a small nudge on the inside from Di Giannantonio, then collected Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol), as both slid out of contention. The Stewards saw it as a racing incident.

Elsewhere, it was a rapid start from Johann Zarco (Castrol Honda LCR), who was getting a wriggle on. The Frenchman briefly held second before Alex Marquez responded, with Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) bullying his way past Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) and Di Giannantonio on Lap 2.

MARTIN OUT OF THE SPRINT

Then, drama struck for the French GP winner. Martin, at Turn 10 on Lap 3, crashed out of the top-five battle. The #89 was uninjured, but that’s now four crashes this weekend for the 2024 World Champion.

THE RUN TO THE FLAG

Back at the front, Alex Marquez pounced on Acosta into Turn 1 to lead the Sprint for the first time. Third place was now Fernandez’s, and that soon became P2 on Lap 5 when the lead Aprilia carved up the inside of Acosta at Turn 5.

With five laps to go, Marquez led Fernandez, Acosta, and Di Giannantonio by 0.4s. The winner would be coming from one of these four, but who? Well, Acosta made his move with four laps to go to snatch P2 back from Fernandez. Could the #37 reel in Marquez, who was now 0.6s up the road?

On Lap 11 of 12, Di Giannantonio then demoted Fernandez to P4 with a classic move at Turn 1, as Acosta clawed back a couple of tenths on Marquez.

Last lap time, and over the line, the margin was down to 0.2s. Acosta swarming, Marquez defending, Di Giannantonio lurking. It was all pointing towards a Turn 10 lunge from the polesitter, but Acosta wasn’t quite close enough. And a Rossi-esque lunge at the final corner wasn’t possible either, as Alex Marquez just clung onto a Sprint win on home soil, with less than a tenth of a second splitting the Spaniards.

Less than half a second adrift was Di Giannantonio, as Fernandez faded in the closing stages to finish P4. Zarco’s good start and subsequent decent pace handed the #5 P5 on Saturday, as Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) produced a fine comeback from a disappointing P13 in qualifying to P6 in the Sprint.

From the front row, Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) ended the Sprint in P7, 0.6s clear of Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP Team). The Japanese rider clawed his way back from 18th on the grid to bag two points in P8, as championship leader Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) struggled to really get going on Saturday afternoon. The Italian’s title chase lead over teammate Martin grows, but only by a single point ahead of Sunday’s Grand Prix.

The closest ever Tissot Sprint finish. That sets us up very nicely for Grand Prix Sunday in Barcelona, so make sure you don’t miss a beat.

Nicolo Bulega won FIM Superbike World Championship Race One Saturday afternoon at Autodrom Most, in Czech Republic. Bulega started from pole position and rode his Aruba.it Racing Ducati Panigale V4R to a 1.330- second margin of victory in the 21-lap race.

More from a press release issued by WorldSBK:

Ducati Duel: Bulega beats Lecuona in epic Most battle to take his winning run to 17 races. The #11 was made to work hard for his latest victory after engaging in an epic scrap with his teammate.

Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) made it 17 consecutive MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship wins with Race 1 victory at the Autodrom Most – but it was the most difficult win of this season so far, after engaging in an unmissable battle with teammate Iker Lecuona as they scrapped it out for victory in the latter stages of the race in the Czech Round. The rostrum was completed by Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team).

EARLY RED FLAG

At the start, Bulega converted his pole position into P1 through Turn 1 ahead of Montella and Lecuona, while Alberto Surra (Motocorsa Racing) moved up to an early P4. The race was red flagged after a big crash for Danilo Petrucci (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) at Turn 13 on the opening lap, with the red flags shown at the start of Lap 2. The #9 was taken to the medical centre following the incident and diagnosed with lower back and left hip contusions, plus bruising to the first, fourth and fifth fingers on his left hand and a pelvic injury. He was taken to hospital for further assessments. The race was restarted over a 21-lap distance, with the grid based on the original starting positions.

AN EPIC BATTLE FOR FIRST

It was a similar story for Bulega when the lights went out as he maintained P1 through the opening lap, with Montella and Lecuona settling in for P2 and P3 while Surra again jumped into fourth. The #5 was able to keep the #7 at bay over the first few laps, but Lecuona made his move at the start of Lap 4 at Turn 1 to move into second place. Lecuona wasted no time in closing down his teammate, bringing the gap down to just a couple of tenths by Lap 7. Nothing could separate the Ducati duo throughout the race, and on Lap 14, Bulega ran wide into Turn 1, but he was just able to hold Lecuona off. A lap later, the #7 made his move for P1 under braking, and held position despite running wide through the opening corner of the lap. On Lap 18, the battle ignited once again, as Bulega tried to make a move but was unable to do so, but he got ahead at Turn 1 at the start of Lap 19. That move proved to be decisive as Bulega extended his winning run to 17 races, and his 33rd win overall, putting him level with Troy Corser. Lecuona made it 10 consecutive P2 finishes. Montella came home in a relatively lonely P3, finishing ten seconds behind Lecuona and three seconds clear of Gerloff.

A CLASH AND A BEST RESULT SINCE 2024

The fight for fourth was igniting between Surra, Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) and Garrett Gerloff (Kawasaki WorldSBK Team) but that came to a head on Lap 4. Sam Lowes made his move for P4 on the #67 at Turn 15 and Surra fought back through Turn 16, with the #14 crashing out. The incident was placed under investigation by the FIM WorldSBK Stewards, with Surra given a Long Lap Penalty. Shortly after, Gerloff made his move for P4, passing Surra at Turn 20 as he claimed his best result for Kawasaki – and his first top four finish since he was on the podium at Aragon in 2024 for BMW. He had to resist Axel Bassani (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) but ‘El Bocia’ finished in fifth with Lorenzo Baldassarri (Team GoEleven) completing the top six.

COMPLETING THE TOP TEN

Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) battled his way up the order from 14th on the grid to finish in seventh, with Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha) finishing as the lead Yamaha in eighth place. Surra was classified in ninth after taking his Long Lap Penalty, with Stefano Manzi (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) finishing inside the top ten.

SCORING POINTS IN RACE 1

Tarran Mackenzie (MGM Optical Express Racing) finished less than a second away from Manzi as he came home in P11, while Xavi Vierge (Pata Maxus Yamaha) was 12th. The #97 finished just 0.029s from Mackenzie after they scrapped it out, while Tommy Bridewell (Superbike Advocates) was also involved in that battle. The #46 finished just 0.009s behind Vierge. Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) scored points on his WorldSBK return with 14th, after starting from 20th, with Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) just 0.006s behind the Dutchman. Bahattin Sofuoglu (Motoxracing WorldSBK Team), Somkiat Chantra (Honda HRC) and Mattia Rato (Motoxracing WorldSBK Team) were the final classified riders, with Yuki Kunii (Honda HRC) and Sam Lowes listed as retirements.

Moto2: Vietti Takes Pole Position At Catalunya

Celestino Vietti was the man to beat during Moto2 World Championship qualifying Saturday at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, in Spain. Riding his Pirelli-shod Beta Tools SpeedRS Boscoscuro, Vietti navigated the 2.89-mile (4.66 km) course in 1:41.076, breaking Manuel Gonzalez’s 2026 All-Time Lap Record of 1:41.288 he set Saturday morning in FP2.

Collin Veijer was second-best with a 1:41.338 on his Red Bull KTM Ajo Kalex.

Manuel Gonzalez claimed the third and final spot on the front row with a 1:41.436 on his Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP Kalex.

More from a press release issued by MotoGP:

Vietti flies to record-breaking Barcelona pole. The Italian set a new Moto2 lap record to clinch a rare Saturday P1 ahead of Veijer and championship leader Gonzalez.

A 1:41.076 all-time Moto2 lap record in Barcelona from Friday pacesetter Celestino Vietti (Beta Tools SpeedRS Team) made sure the Italian clinched his first pole position since the 2024 Austrian GP. 0.262s was the gap to second place Collin Veijer (Red Bull KTM Ajo), the Dutchman securing an important front row before he takes a Long Lap penalty on Sunday, with Manuel Gonzalez (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) – the World Championship leader – completing the top three.

Having come through Q1, Ivan Ortola (QJMOTOR – Bordoy – MSI) improved on his penultimate lap to earn P4 on the grid, with compatriots Alonso Lopez (ITALJET Gresini Moto2) and Aron Canet (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) rounding out the top six, with that result acting as Canet’s best qualifying result of the campaign.

Having had a huge moment early in the session coming out of Turn 10, 2025 Catalan GP winner Daniel Holgado (CFMOTO Impulse Aspar Team) starts P8, one place behind Czechia’s Filip Salač (OnlyFans American Racing), and one place ahead of reigning Moto3 World Champion Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo). How good is it to see the #98 looking fast and comfortable again?

It was a trickier Saturday for the riders P2 and P3 in the championship, with Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2) and Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) starting from P10 and P11 respectively. And in P13, there’s David Alonso (CFMOTO Impulse Aspar Team). That’s a trio of Moto2 race winners coming from the mid-pack.

Tune into the Moto2 race at 12:15 local time.

Perrone grabs pole by 0.005 in Barcelona. The Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider takes to the top late on, defeating Muñoz and Uriarte.

Valentin Perrone (Red Bull KTM Tech3) takes pole in Barcelona after a stunning late dash for the top, putting in a 1’46.679 to edge out David Muñoz (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) by just 0.005. Rookie Brian Uriarte (Red Bull KTM Ajo) completes the front row.

After the first runs it was Almansa on top but it all came down to that final push. By the flag, the Spaniard had lost out not only on provisional pole but also the front row – with Uriarte taking over, and then Perrone coming through to take it by just 0.005. Muñoz slots in between the two, pushing Almansa down to fourth.

Row 2 sees the Spaniard joined by Marco Morelli (CFMoto Gaviota Aspar Team), with Jesus Rios (Rivacold Snipers Team) slotting into sixth. Championship leder Maximo Quiles (CFMoto Gaviota Aspar Team) starts P7, looking for a good launch to hammer home his advantage.

More from a press release issued by WorldSBK:

DEBISE UNDETERRED: The ZXMOTO rider took his manufacturer’s fourth rookie-season win in Most Race 1. A six-position grid penalty couldn’t stop the #53 as he brought home his sixth career win.

It was Valentin Debise (EASTROC ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing) at the helm of his ZXMOTO 820RR who took home the 25 FIM Supersport World Championship Riders’ Championship points on the opening race of the Czech Round for his Chinese manufacturer’s fourth win of their rookie season. Chasing him home on Saturday was Can Oncu (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) in second, who continues to return to form, and Albert Arenas (AS BLU CRU Racing Team), who takes the bronze medal for his seventh podium result in nine races.

ZXMOTO MOUNTS A COMEBACK FOR FRANCE’S 75th WIN

Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha) went past Can Oncu on the run into the opening chicane, followed by the Turk and his teammate Roberto Garcia (GMT94 Yamaha). Albert Arenas worked his way towards the leading trio and uncorked a brave move down into Turn 1 of Lap 4 for P1, towing Valentin Debise (EASTROC ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing) up with him to kick off a five-way melee for P1 across the first eight laps. While Mahias’s pace dwindled by the race’s midpoint, seeing him back to P5, Valentin Debise (EASTROC ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing) held P1 ahead of the quartet of Yamahas. In a frustrating turn for Garcia, he suffered a tech issue with five laps to go. Despite his Balaton Park Race 2 podium, this marks the #37’s fourth retirement in five races. Further forward, despite his penalty, which saw him start in P6, Debise scampered ahead while Oncu and Arenas fought amongst themselves behind him, finishing six tenths clear for his fourth win of the 2026 season. Arenas in P3 took his sixth consecutive podium, and in P2, ahead of him, Oncu continues to improve his season with his fourth podium in a row.

MASIA CARVES OUT A HARD-FOUGHT P4

Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) and Matteo Ferrari (WRP Racing) crossed swords in the early running as they fought for P8. The Spaniard made his way through on the Italian on his way to an eventual P4, moving past Oli Bayliss (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) and, later on, Lucas Mahias with a late move. With other riders’ retirements, the Frenchman and the Aussie take strong results in P5 and P6 respectively, just ahead of Matteo Ferrari (WRP Racing) in P7.

FARIOLI GOES CLIMBING

Behind the trio, Filippo Farioli (VFT Racing) found a step at Most as he converted his P14 grid start to a P8 finish – his best finish since Aragon last season. Philipp Oettl (Feel Racing WorldSSP Team), Simon Jespersen (EAB Racing Team) and Alessandro Zaccone (Ecosantagata Althea Racing Team) did battle late in the race, heating up lap by lap until the three crossed the line three wide. The German got his nose in front to take P9, just five thousandths ahead of Jespersen, who was in turn seven thousandths ahead of Zaccone.

TWO CRASH OUT FROM THE TOP TEN

Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) was up in the top eight until he missed the braking point on Turn 1 of Lap 3, falling to P9 as a result, which only got worse when he crashed on Turn 20 to fall to the back of the grid. Aldi Mahendra (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) was in the point-scoring positions before he crashed out on Turn 10, falling to the back of the grid.

The top six from the WorldSSP Race 1: Full results here!

MotoGP: Acosta On pole Position At Montmelo

Pedro Acosta claimed pole position during MotoGP qualifying Saturday at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, in Spain. Riding his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing RC16 on the dry 2.89-mile (4.66 km) track, the Spaniard turned a 1:38.068 to top the 22-rider field.

More from a press release issued by MotoGP:

SHARK ATTACK: Acosta takes first pole of 2026 as Bezzecchi crashes in Q2. The KTM star was the star on Saturday morning as he heads the field off the line.

Barcelona has delivered again with a mixed-up order making for a mouthwatering prospect ahead of MotoGP’s Tissot Sprint and Sunday’s Grand Prix. Having dominated Friday, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) put in a stellar showing to bag his first pole since the Japanese GP in 2024 whilst he’s joined by Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) and Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) on the front row. Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) crashed at Turn 2, leaving him 12th on the grid.

Red sectors were lighting up the timing screen instantly in Q1 as a power-packed line-up hit the track. After the opening run, it was Enea Bastianini (Red Bull KTM Tech 3) and Morbidelli who were provisionally moving on through, with pre-session favourites Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) and Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) in P3, P8 and P11 respectively. Martin took P1 overall in his second run with two minutes to go but a lap later, binned it at Turn 5. It’d still be good enough to see him through but a late charge from Morbidelli saw the Italian take P1 on his final lap, the #21 leading the 2024 World Champion into Q2. For Pecco, he missed out, rooted to P3 and 13th on the grid overall.

Crunch time on Saturday morning, a blockbuster Q2 in prospect. KTM’s strength across the weekend meant two of them were going for pole and after the opening runs, it was Acosta who had set the early benchmark with a 1’38.118 ahead of Alex Marquez and a mighty lap from Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team). A slow first flyer for Jorge Martin saw him down in 12th as his first stint ended.

With the second runs now underway, it was a disaster for Bezzecchi who crashed at Turn 2 and that left him P9 at best – not ideal for the Championship leader. Behind him on-track, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) stormed up the order to fifth. At the pointy end, Acosta bettered his lap time to maintain P1 whilst a stonking lap from Morbidelli put the #21 provisionally in P2.

The chequered flag waved and it was a first pole since Motegi in 2024 for Acosta, the Shark with bite this weekend as he gave the Red Bull KTM Factory Team a first pole since Pol Espargaro at the 2020 European GP. Morbidelli impressed team boss Valentino Rossi, in attendance from the service road, as he took a first front row since Sepang last year, whilst Alex Marquez completes the front row in third. Raul Fernandez took his best qualifying since Buriram with fourth on the grid, ahead of a fantastic Johann Zarco (Castrol Honda LCR) who takes a fourth top ten in five GPs. Top Ducati in the standings Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) will start sixth.

A valiant effort from Quartararo sees him take seventh whilst Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) took a first top ten on the grid since the Sachsenring in 2025. Martin could only manage P9 in the end but did outqualify teammate Bezzecchi for the first time since they became teammates last year. Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol) completes the top ten, ahead of Jack Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP) and Bezzecchi, the Italian with his worst qualifying showing since Sepang last season when he was P14.

A jumbled-up order, an unmissable Sprint in prospect – get yourselves ready for lights out at 15:00 Local Time (UTC +2).

WSBK: Bulega Breaks Lap Record, Takes Pole Position at Most

Nicolo Bulega took pole position during World Superbike Superpole qualifying Saturday at Autodrom Most, in Czech Republic. Riding his Aruba.it Racing Ducati Panigale V4 R, Bulega recorded a lap time of 1:29.616, which was not only good enough to top the 22-rider field and secure pole position it also eclipsed Toprak Razgatlioglu’s 2024 All-Time Lap Record of 1:30.064.

Yari Montella qualified second with a 1:29.896 on his Barni Spark Racing Team Ducati Panigale V4 R.

Iker Lecuona, Bulega’s teammate, did a 1:30.111 to earn the third and final spot on the front row.

Row two starters include ELF Marc VDS’ Sam Lowes (1:30.339), Motocorsa Racing’s Alberto Surra (1:30.388), and Kawasaki ZX-10RR’s Garrett Gerloff (1:30.417).

Danilo Petrucci finished 9th with a time of 1:30.671 on his ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team M1000RR.

The #11 was almost three tenths clear of Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) as he secured P1 at the Czech Round, while Bulega’s teammate, Iker Lecuona, completed the top three but was half-a-second down on his teammate.

THE FIRST RUN

A brief yellow flag was shown at Turn 1 when Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) crashed after he set his first time of 1’31.120s, with the #22 able to take his bike back to the pits. Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) set a 1’30.201s to claim a provisional P1 ahead of Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team), before Iker Lecuona (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) set a 1’30.163s to take P1 – and lap a tenth away from the existing lap record at Most.

MONTELLA TAKES THE FIGHT TO BULEGA

Montella was the first to start his second stint and set a provisional pole time of a 1’30.051s, but Bulega smashed his time with a 1’29.616s to smash the lap record by more than four tenths to continue his unbeaten start to 2026 in Tissot Superpole sessions. Montella improved his time again to set a 1’29.896s but finished three tenths down on the #11. Lecuona was able to improve his time to a 1’30.127s but had to settle for P3. It’s Bulega’s 14th pole in WorldSBK, and his sixth in a row (including Jerez 2025), the third-best streak in WorldSBK history set by Doug Polen and Tom Sykes while Montella made it four front row starts out of five rounds in 2026. For Lecuona, it’s his third consecutive front row start.

SURRA TAKES HIS BEST SUPERPOLE RESULT

Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) used his second stint to climb up the order after posting a 1’30.339s to take fourth on the timesheets, with Alberto Surra (Motocorsa Racing) backing up his Hungarian Round form in Czechia with P5, taking his best WorldSBK Superpole result so far. He set a 1’30.388s to take a second row start, and American star Garrett Gerloff (Kawasaki WorldSBK Team) will complete the second row after claiming P6.

BASSANI AND MANZI SHINE

Axel Bassani (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) finished as the lead Bimota rider after securing P7 in Superpole, posting a 1’30.467s, and ‘El Bocia’ was just 0.050s away from a second row start. Lorenzo Baldassarri (Team GoEleven) finished in eighth with Danilo Petrucci (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) in ninth and rookie Stefano Manzi (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) claiming lead Yamaha honours with P10.

RACE 1 GRID CHANGES

Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) set the 12th fastest time in Superpole but received a back of the grid penalty for improving his best sector time under yellow flags in FP3. Somkiat Chantra (Honda HRC) received the same sanction for the same offence, with the pair set to line up 20thand 21st on the Race 1 grid respectively.

Joel Kelso (GRYD – Mlav Racing) takes P8 ahead of Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing), with Hakim Danish (AEON Credit – MT Helmets – MSI) completing the top ten – looking for more after his super speed to top Friday.

More from a press release issued by WorldSBK:

Lap record obliterated: Bulega claims Most pole in sensational fashion, Montella and Lecuona P2 and P3. Montella had provisionally taken P1 in the 15-minute session, but Bulega smashed the lap record to make it five poles in five rounds.

Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) claimed pole position at the Autodrom Most in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship by destroying the existing lap record.
