Oxley Bom MotoGP Podcast: Jerez 2024 – Return Of The King

Roadracing World MotoGP Editor and Isle of Man TT winner Mat Oxley and two-time World Championship-winning Crew Chief Peter Bom have started “The Oxley Bom MotoGP Podcast,” which will be focused on the FIM MotoGP World Championship.

This podcast is “Jerez 2024 – Return Of The King.”

The original podcast can be found on BuzzSprout.com or listened to via other places you get podcasts.

From the Oxley Bom Podcast:

Want to become a better rider, going faster than you ever imagined? Try being chased by Marc Marquez! It obviously worked wonders on Bagnaia, who fought to gain perhaps the most hard-fought victory in his career in Jerez.

But Pecco isn’t the only winner here. Marquez shows that he’s back, and that’s good news for everyone. So blame it on the sun or on the crowd’s infectious enthusiasm, but Mat and Peter are over the moon and ready to rave about it. Coming to you, straight from the pit lanes in Jerez to your ears, it’s the Oxley Bom Podcast!

Pipe Dreams Podcast (And Video): E14 – Richie Escalante, Determinado

MotoAmerica racers Corey Alexander and James Rispoli are excited to unveil Episode 14 of the Pipe Dreams Podcast, featuring none other than MotoAmerica Superbike Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki rider Richie Escalante.

Hailing from just outside Mexico City, 29-year-old Richie has his sights set on becoming a MotoAmerica Superbike champion. In this 14th episode, Corey and James delve into the path that led him to Richie’s current place as a top talent within MotoAmerica, a story which until now has remained largely untold.

From his humble beginnings traveling around North America with his dad and brother, Richie Escalante’s story is one of grit, determination, and passion. As the first Mexican rider to claim the MotoAmerica Supersport Championship and his recent ascent to the top of the Superbike class, Richie has become an inspiration to riders across his country.

This podcast marks Richie’s first in-depth interview in English, as he continues to perfect his language skills. We hope you’ll both learn from and enjoy this episode as much as the boys did.

Available on all major podcast platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, the fourteenth full episode with Richie is out now. Video of the episode can be viewed on Spotify or YouTube.

About Pipe Dreams Podcast:

Intro: 2024 Triumph Daytona 660, In The April Issue

Featured In the April 2024 issue of Roadracing World:

The smell of the burning brush lingered far after the flames and smoke had disappeared from the mirrors. Farmers were torching the underbrush torn from fields, clearing the way for the next crops grown in the countryside inland of Benidorm, on the Mediterranean coast of Spain.  I reflected that the only sense I could devote to the phenomenon was smell; I had no extra time or bandwidth for sightseeing. We were burning through the roller-coaster two-lane roads in the local mountains, slashing past the fields as we sampled Triumph’s newest sportbike, the 2024 Daytona 660, at the global launch of the new machine.

Turns came up at a fast and furious rate, with crests, dips and fences limiting the view ahead and keeping me on high alert, fully engaged in hustling the machine into turn after turn, carrying as much corner speed as I dared until the exit opened up and it was time to go to the whip.

This is an important bike for Triumph, as the company looks to build on the success of its  earlier 660cc Triples, the roadster Trident 660 and sport-touring/adventure bike Sport Tiger 660. But the new Daytona it is not simply a Trident with a fairing. The riding position is completely different, the forks are upgraded, the chassis is new…

“2024 Triumph Daytona 660 Intro,” by Michael Gougis

The idea is not to create another middleweight supersport. Triumph wants to attract newer riders, older riders, and people who are interested in a middleweight bike that will perform on curvy roads, serve as a daily commuter and cross a state with comfort, power and style. Read about the details of the company’s latest creation in the April issue of Roadracing World!

American Flat Track: Silver Dollar Short Track Is Saturday, May 4

Progressive AFT Arrives at Historic Silver Dollar Speedway for Inaugural Event

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 30, 2024) – The 2024 Progressive American Flat Track season, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, picks right back up this week with the Silver Dollar Short Track in Chico, California, on Saturday, May 4.

The occasion marks the inaugural Grand National Championship round at the fabled Silver Dollar Speedway. While new to the Progressive AFT circuit, the track boasts six decades of history and has earned iconic status among numerous auto racing superstars, including the likes of Kyle Larson and Brad Sweet, who now serve as the venue’s co-promoters along with business partner Colby Copeland (together SLC Promotions).

The ‘24 Mission SuperTwins title fight was widely expected to be a sequel to last year’s epic featuring all-time great Jared Mees (No. 1 Rogers Racing/SDI Racing/Indian Motorcycle FTR750) and the prodigious Dallas Daniels (No. 32 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT).

And both riders have come out swinging, Daniels logging a win among his perfect podium record, and Mees finishing first and second in his last two outings. That said, they actually find themselves chasing the red-hot Brandon Robinson (No. 44 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750), who leads the early-season championship chase with two victories to highlight his run of four consecutive podium finishes.

The shape of the season to date might just call for another rider to step forward and claim top honors this weekend; the Silver Dollar Short Track is the fourth ST on the calendar and the three previous each saw a different rider come out on top (the aforementioned Daniels, Robinson, and Mees).

Two-time Grand National Champion Briar Bauman (No. 3 Rick Ware Racing/KTM/Parts Plus KTM 790 Duke) leads a large contingent of riders eager to do just that, a group that also includes the likes of Davis Fisher (No. 67 Rackley Racing/Bob Lanphere’s BMC Racing Indian FTR750), Brandon Price (No. 92 Memphis Shades/Corbin/OTBR Yamaha MT-07), Jarod Vanderkooi (No. 20 JMC Motorsports/Fairway Ford Ohio Indian FTR750), and Johnny Lewis (No. 10 Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield 650).

There’s no shortage of potential storylines, including the return of Sammy Halbert (No. 69 Dodge Bros. Racing/Castrol Harley-Davidson XR750), who will make another attempt at giving the legendary Harley-Davidson XR750 a 503rd win after coming oh-so-close to doing so in Daytona.

Meanwhile, Mission SuperTwins rookies Trevor Brunner (No. 21 Mission Foods/Zanotti Racing KTM 790 Duke), Max Whale (No. 18 Latus Motors Racing/Liqui Moly Harley-Davidson XG750R), Declan Bender (No. 70 GOMR/BriggsAuto.com/Martin Trucking Indian FTR750), and Morgen Mischler (No. 13 Big Red Super Twins/Al Lamb’s Dallas Honda Transalp) should face better odds of impressing this weekend as the entire field heads in looking to learn the nuances of the circuit.

Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER

Two-time defending Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER king Kody Kopp (No. 1 Rick Ware Racing/Parts Plus KTM 450 SX-F) has utilized a rare combination of speed and consistency to rule over the category the past two-plus seasons.

That trend is very much alive and well in 2024 as Kopp boasts a sizable early lead thanks to alternating runs of first and second this season.

His five nearest rivals are pretty much exactly those most would have predicted prior to the start of the season: Chase Saathoff (No. 88 JPG Motorsports Honda CRF450R), Tom Drane (No. 59 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F), Trent Lowe (No. 48 American Honda/Mission Foods CRF450R), Dalton Gauthier (No. 79 D&D Racing/Certified KTM 450 SX-F), and James Ott (No. 19 1st Impressions Race Team Husqvarna FC450).

But if any of them hope to challenge Kopp for the crown, they’ll need to start beating him on track with regularity. Drane has shown himself capable of doing so since the middle of last season, although he needs a bit more luck on his side for that to be reflected in the points.

Saathoff, meanwhile, comes in with his confidence boosted after having finally earned his maiden Progressive AFT victory while simultaneously motivated to claim his first actual checkered flag following last weekend’s red-flagged affair.

Jared Lowe (No. 63 BigR/Little Debbie Racing Honda CRF450R) is another rider stepping up his game, fresh off his first career Progressive AFT top-five and eager to follow it up with a second in the span of seven days.

There will be plenty to keep spectators entertained off the track as well, including numerous vendors, plenty of food and beverage options, live music, activities for kids, and extensive motorcycle parking.

General Admission Grandstand tickets are just $30 (kids 12 and under free), while Reserved Grandstand tickets are $40 (all ages), Trackside Box tickets are $60 (all ages), and Pit Grandstand tickets offer premium viewing experiences for $70 (all ages).

Interview: American Joe Roberts In Moto2, In The April Issue

0

Featured In the April 2024 issue of Roadracing World:

Even from the far side of Chuckwalla Valley Raceway, the black motorcycle is obviously moving fast, far quicker than anything else. And even though gusting wind whips vision-obscuring sheets of dust across the track, the rider is flying, a second off the outright lap record on a day that was not conducive to speed.

The rider is American Moto2 star Joe Roberts. He’s on his own personal motorcycle, a Yamaha YZF-R1 he bought, paid for, and built himself, and he’s pounding out flying laps. Pirelli stepped up with pre-season tire support for Roberts, who was putting in the hard work to learn the spec slicks he’s racing on this year in Moto2. The season is a bit of a reset for Roberts…

“Interview: American Joe Roberts In Moto2,” by Michael Gougis

At 26, Joe Roberts has rejoined the American Racing team he formerly competed with, and reconnected with the team’s riding coach, John Hopkins, a former AMA Pro, Grand Prix, and World Superbike rider in his own right. This comes after Roberts’ three years with the Italtrans squad, experiencing the heights and depths that racing brings. Roberts ran near the top of the time sheets in pre-season testing and he’s looking to keep progressing, with good results and wins. Catch up with the rider most likely to be the next American in MotoGP in the latest issue of Roadracing World!

Honda Adds Winglets, Traction Control To 2024 CBR500R

American Honda Announces Updates to Popular Midsize Models

  • CB500X adventure bike becomes NX500 for 2024
  • CBR500R and CB500F also included in the announcement
  • All three models receive updates for the 2024 model year

American Honda today revealed three of its 2024 model-year 500cc on-road motorcycles, all of which have received notable updates. The announcement includes the adventure-ready NX500 (formerly known as the CB500X) as well as the sporty CBR500R and the CB500F naked bike.

The versatile NX500 is the perfect gateway to adventure riding, and for 2024 it makes strides in performance while shedding weight. A number of improvements to the chassis, suspension, engine and electronics contribute to an improved on- and off-road package. For riders who prioritize performance on the pavement, the sport CBR500R and naked CB500F also benefit from numerous upgrades, most notably redesigned bodywork and a superior electronic interface. The three models have shared a focus on approachable, rider-friendly design, well-rounded performance and solid reliability.

“Honda’s midsize lineup remains a core focus for the company, as these models suit a wide range of riders, in terms of skill levels and preferred riding experience,” said Colin Miller, Assistant Manager of Public Relations at American Honda. “The advancements made with the NX500, CBR500R and CB500F are aimed at enhancing the experience for all riders, from casual commuters to lifelong enthusiasts. We’re confident that each of these bikes will remain at the forefront of its respective category and continue to deliver memorable rides for years to come.”

All three models are available in dealers now.

NX500

The letters NX have a long history with Honda, thanks to the 1988-’89 NX650 adventure bike. NX means “New X-over,” which is a perfect description for the NX500 (previously called the CB500X). Fun on a winding road or a gravel trail, and ready to go the distance, the machine’s all-around credentials are reinforced with an impressive update to its adventure styling. The wheels are lighter, and the suspension settings have been upgraded to improve ride quality. The slipper-clutch-equipped twin-cylinder engine also benefits from the addition of Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC).

CBR500R

A longtime hit with customers who are looking for performance while also keeping an eye on enjoyment and approachability, Honda’s twin-cylinder midsize sport bike gets an important refresh for the 2024 model year. Among the improvements are sharp, Fireblade-inspired styling (including a new fairing with winglets that improve handling); new LED headlights that increase visibility; a new 5-inch TFT display, offering Honda Selectable Torque Control, delivering peace of mind in slippery conditions. With an unmatched combination of style, performance and affordability, the CBR500R’s popularity among riders of all skill levels comes as no surprise.

CB500F

The CB500F leads the way when it comes to versatility and rider-friendly performance in a naked package, and for 2024 it’s made even more capable. Aggressive new styling yields aerodynamic benefits, while the addition of a 5-inch TFT display and Honda Selectable Torque Control enhance the riding experience. Offering smooth power delivery and a narrow, lightweight chassis design, the CB500F is welcoming for new enthusiasts but maintains a nimble character that can be appreciated by riders of any skill level. Practical yet capable, the CB500F once again proves that sporty performance, eye-catching style and world-class reliability don’t need to come at a price that breaks the bank.

Intro: 2024 Triumph Daytona 660, In The April Issue

Triumph sold more than 40,000 (combined) Trident 660 roadster and Tiger Sport 660 adventure bike models in three years, attracting more new riders, younger riders, and women riders. It has high hopes for the same type of success with the new Daytona 660 sportbike, which is based on the Trident, but with upgraded suspension, a sportier riding position, 17% more power, and a 20% higher redline.

BPR RACING TEAM TO COMPETE IN MOTOAMERICA STOCK 1000 CHAMPIONSHIP

Exciting news is coming to the MotoAmerica paddock as Bryce Prince, new owner of Kern County Powersports in Bakersfield, CA, heads his very own race program to compete in the MotoAmerica Stock 1000 championship. Bryce (17) along with teammates Wyatt Farris (101) and Deion Campbell (194) will be riding a trio of 2024 BPR Racing Yamaha YZF-R1Ms built by Bryce Prince himself. Bringing more than 20 years of combined racing experience, Bryce and his team are excited to return to the MotoAmerica paddock and compete for a championship again.

“After taking a few years off from professional racing to focus on my new life with the dealership, I am excited to get back into the MotoAmerica paddock,” Bryce said. “Being able to use the time I’ve had to build a reputable race shop here in CA, I am excited to showcase our potential at a national level. Deion, Wyatt, and I will all be looking to put us on the top step of the box! I must give thanks to Kern County Powersports and all our supporters for making this deal possible. Specifically, Quinten Robles from Next Level Cycles, who I will be working with alongside to manage the BPR Race Program.”
