Ducati domination on day one at The Ridge for the 2024 Steel Commander MotoAmerica Superbike Championship
Sunnyvale, Calif., June 28, 2024 — Loris Baz and Josh Herrin painted The Ridge Motorsport Park red on the opening day of action for round five of the 2024 Steel Commander MotoAmerica Superbike Championship.
The Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati duo produced a dominant performance in Washington, Baz leading the charge with a 1:40.034 lap time of the 2.5-mile venue in Qualifying 1. Baz’s growing confidence was clear as the Frenchman delved into the Ducati Panigale V4 R’s electronics for his time attack, and after 18 laps across the day, he’s confident of grabbing a first-ever MotoAmerica victory this weekend.
Josh Herrin’s run of excellent form continued at The Ridge as he looks to further the Warhorse HSBK team’s podium streak. Herrin completed 17 laps across the day and finished with a best time of 1:40.197 for second overall.
All eyes will now be on the ultra-important Qualifying 2 session, which will start at 10:25 a.m. CDT on Saturday, June 29.
2024 The Ridge Superbike Qualifying 1 Results – Top 5
P1 – Loris Baz (Ducati) 1:40.034
P2 – Josh Herrin (Ducati) 1:40.197
P3 – Bobby Fong 1:40.304
P4 – Cameron Petersen 1:40.382
P5 – Jake Gagne 1:40.809
Loris Baz (Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati–#76)
“It’s been a good day for sure,” Baz said. “FP1 was tough as I was still relearning the track. I had ridden here in 2021, but that was a long time ago, so I had to refamiliarize myself with the layout and get all the references correct because the corners are so blind here.
“This morning, I think we all made the same mistake of using the soft tire in the cold weather for FP1, but I was confident we could do the lap times. For qualifying, we made some electronic changes, and I did a lot of laps on the hard tire in case we needed to use that for the race. Then we put the softer tire in, and I felt great. The times came, and so did the confidence. I can ride more and more like I want, and this is a great feeling.”
Josh Herrin (Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati–#2)
“Obviously, I want to be the guy in first, but to see our team finish the day one-two like that was really cool,” Herrin said. “It’s been a long time since Ducati had a one-two in American Superbike like that. It’s got to be at least since the early 2000s, so to do that is huge for this team.
“I’m happy to see Loris stepping up the pace because now we are close enough in terms of speed that we can use each other’s data and information to help each other. So, I’m really happy and I think we’ve got something for the pack come race one and two.”
Qualifying 2 is set for 10:25 a.m. CDT on Saturday, June 29. Race one is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. CDT that same day, and race two is set for 3:10 p.m. on Sunday, June 30.
Mathew Scholtz was fastest during MotoAmerica Supersport Qualifying One (Q1) Friday afternoon at Ridge Motorsports Park, in Shelton, Washington. Riding his Strack Racing Yamaha YZF-R6 on Dunlop control tires, the South African lapped the 2.5-mile track in 1:42.538. Not only was that enough to top the field of 30 entries and claim provisional pole position, it was also fast enough to break Rocco Landers’ 2022 All-Time Lap Record of 1:42.774.
PJ Jacobsen, the current Championship point leader, was second-best with a 1:42.988 on his Rahal Ducati Moto w/XPEL Panigale V2.
Jake Lewis was third-quickest with a 1:43.031 on his Altus Motorsports Suzuki GSX-R750.
Corey Alexander finished the session fourth with a lap time of 1:43.357 on his Rahal Ducati Moto w/Code 3 Associates Panigale V2.
Jacobsen’s 17-year-old teammate Kayla Yaakov rounded out the top five riders in Q1 with a 1:43.529.

Herrin’s teammate Loris Baz did a 1:42.466, which put him sixth in the order.

Hobbs’ teammate Tyler Scott rounded out the top five in the session with a 1:45.946.
Álvaro Carpe took his second Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup Pole after being clearly quickest through the late afternoon Qualifying session, the Spanish 17-year-old hit the top of the timing screen with his 2nd lap and improved with his 4th and 6th.
The blustery wind from the two free sessions had died away but neither FP1 leader Rico Salmela, the Finnish 16-year-old nor Valentin Perrone, the 16-year-old Argentine who headed FP2, could better Carpe when it mattered.
Salmela came closest with his 11th and final lap but was still 0.405 seconds off in 2nd. Brian Uriarte completes the front row and the 15-year-old Spanish Le Mans winner is keen to go a place better than the double second he recorded last time out in Mugello.
Carpe confident
“It is very important because Max is not here because of the penalty and I must make the most of that. I am 3rd in the championship 13 points behind Max and I must get the maximum points to go into the summer break with as big an advantage as possible. That is my goal.
“I started the session with a good feeling and the new tyre, as I caught the group it gave me a good reference and I could set the new lap record here so I’m very happy.”
Salmela will put it all together tomorrow
“A couple of times I had a good lap going, once I lost I think half a second in the last sector because I overtook 4 riders in the last corner. On the last lap, my quickest, I had to pass 2 riders in the braking to the last corner, it was difficult.”
“So I didn’t put that perfect lap together but I feel good with the overtaking and I think this is the most important for tomorrow, 2nd is a good place to start.”
Uriarte has game
“It’s my first time here but I did plenty of laps on the game,” he laughed. “It’s super fast, I enjoy that, a few bumps in some corners but I like it.”
“I had a little bit of chatter but I think it’s the same for everyone. For the race, no plan. You can have a plan but the races get crazy and so you just have to go for it.”
Marco Morelli 4th again
“It’s a fun track, it’s flat and I like that, I love the fast corners. It is more or less like Jerez,” explained the Argentine 16-year-old who won the first race of the year there. “I found a good pace but couldn’t do better than last year, I was 4th then too. That’s OK, I’m happy with the bike and the race should be good.”
Ruche Moodley 5th on his own
“I’m not totally happy with 5th but considering that I was riding alone, that’s not bad,” stated the 17-year-old South African. “But I want more in the race tomorrow and I was getting ready for the race. I think that to get the pole you need a slipstream but I just went alone because I did not want to lose time.”
Dodo Boggio 6th and happy
“I’m very happy because I have struggled in the Rookies this year and finally here I am finally going well,” smiled the 16-year-old Italian. “With the new tyre in Quali the bike felt great and I really enjoyed it so I think the race will be good.”

Kyle Wyman Racing’s (KWR) Hayden Scholtz made it three Harley-Davidsons in the top four thanks to his lap of 1:48.340.
And Stefano Mesa rounded out the top five riders with a 1:49.154 on his race-kitted Tytlers Cycle Racing Energica Eva Ribelle electric machine.
Mikayla Moore led MotoAmerica Royal Enfield Build. Train. Race. (BTR) Free Practice One (FP1) Friday morning at Ridge Motorsports Park, in Shelton, Washington. Riding her Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 on Dunlop spec tires, the defending Champion navigated the 2.5-mile track in 2:09.636, to top the field of 13 female riders.

Lauren Prince was equally close in third with a 2:11.375.
Cameron Petersen led MotoAmerica Steel Commander Superbike Free Practice One (FP1) Friday morning at Ridge Motorsports Park, in Shelton, Washington. On board his Attack Performance/Progressive Yamaha YZF-R1 on Dunlop Sportmax Slick control tires, Petersen covered the 2.5-mile road course in 1:41.529.
Petersen’s teammate Jake Gagne, the three-time and defending Champion, was second-best with a 1:41.689.
Josh Herrin made it tight at the top with a time of 1:41.700 on his Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati Panigale V4 R.
Hayden Gillim was fourth-fastest with a 1:41.894 on his Real Steel Motorsports Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP, which is more of a Stock 1000 bike than a Superbike.
Cameron Beaubier was fifth with a 1:42.324 on his Tytlers Cycle Racing BMW M 1000 RR in spite of breaking his right heel less than four weeks earlier.
Herrin’s teammate Loris Baz did a 1:42.466, which put him sixth in the order.
In spite of riding with an injured shoulder from a crash less than two weeks ago at Brainerd, Xavi Fores did a seventh-quickest 1:42.669 on his Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki GSX-R1000R.
Bobby Fong, the current Championship points leader, was eighth in the opening practice with a 1:43.100 on his Wrench Motorcycles Yamaha YZF-R1.
Sean Dylan Kelly’s best lap time of 1:43.493 on his EasyHealthPlans.com/TopPro Racing BMW was good enough for ninth.

Mathew Scholtz was the quickest rider during MotoAmerica Supersport Free Practice One (FP1) Friday morning at Ridge Motorsports Park, in Shelton, Washington. Riding his Strack Racing Yamaha YZF-R6 on Dunlop spec tires, the South African lapped the 2.5-mile course in 1:44.389 to lead the field of 30 entries.
Corey Alexander was the best of the rest with a 1:44.803 on his Rahal Ducati Moto w/Roller Die + Forming Panigale V2.
Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki rider Teagg Hobbs turned a third-fastest 1:45.387 on his GSX-R750.
PJ Jacobsen was fourth with a 1:45.501 on his Rahal Ducati Moto w/XPEL Panigale V2.

Defending Champion Hayden Gillim was second-fastest with a time of 1:43.965 on his Real Steel Motorsports Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP.

The session was interrupted with a red flag to deal with a crash by Nolan Lamkin, who was seen later walking around the paddock.

Compliance status
We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience,
regardless of circumstance and ability.
To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level.
These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible
to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.
This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific
disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.
Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML,
adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.
If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email
Screen-reader and keyboard navigation
Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with
screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive
a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements,
alongside console screenshots of code examples:
Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website.
In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels;
descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups),
and others. Additionally, the background process scans all the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag
for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology.
To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on
as soon as they enter the website.
These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside it.
Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.
Disability profiles supported in our website
Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.
Additional UI, design, and readability adjustments

Animations – person with epilepsy can stop all running animations with the click of a button. Animations controlled by the interface include videos, GIFs, and CSS flashing transitions.
Content highlighting – users can choose to emphasize important elements such as links and titles. They can also choose to highlight focused or hovered elements only.
Audio muting – users with hearing devices may experience headaches or other issues due to automatic audio playing. This option lets users mute the entire website instantly.
Cognitive disorders – we utilize a search engine that is linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to decipher meanings of phrases, initials, slang, and others.
Additional functions – we provide users the option to change cursor color and size, use a printing mode, enable a virtual keyboard, and many other functions.
Browser and assistive technology compatibility
We aim to support the widest array of browsers and assistive technologies as possible, so our users can choose the best fitting tools for them, with as few limitations as possible. Therefore, we have worked very hard to be able to support all major systems that comprise over 95% of the user market share including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera and Microsoft Edge, JAWS and NVDA (screen readers).
