LaCurelle Named President & CEO Of MIC, MSF, SVIA, And ROHVA

Christy LaCurelle Selected as President and Chief Executive Officer of
MIC, MSF, SVIA, and ROHVA

IRVINE, Calif., August 1, 2024 — The independent boards of the Motorcycle Industry Council, Motorcycle Safety Foundation, Specialty Vehicle Institute of America, and the Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association voted to select Christy LaCurelle as President and Chief Executive Officer of all four powersports associations, representing stakeholders across the industry.

“I have made it my life’s work to help as many people as possible learn and love life on two, three, and four wheels, and being able to bring my marketing expertise and powersports passion to lead these associations is a privilege,” said LaCurelle. “I am looking forward to working with the teams to get more people riding and driving, to take training, and to always practice safe riding and driving habits whether they are on the road or the trail.”

LaCurelle has a track record of building platforms and teams that create engaged riders and safety enthusiasts.

“With Christy’s twenty years of experience, spanning all aspects of powersports, and deep industry connections, she will be able to hit the ground running and lead the teams to continued success,” said Derek Brooks, Chair of the Motorcycle Industry Council.

“Christy’s work and long-standing commitment to motorcycle safety will serve riders, RiderCoaches, and the broader training community well,” said Croft Long, Chair of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. “We are looking forward to her leading the MSF team in rider education expansion, recruiting more RiderCoaches, and growing the interest and demand for rider safety and education.”

“Earlier this year, the boards assembled a search committee to identify a leader for all four associations. I would like to thank the internal teams for their patience through this search process. This comprehensive process enabled us to connect with many qualified candidates and ultimately find that Christy is the best person to lead the organizations and its talents to seize opportunities and work through challenges with success,” said Marc-Andre Deschenes, Chair of the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America.

“I want to thank Scott Schloegel and Diana Sanchez for assuming the additional responsibility of leading these associations while we conducted this extensive search process. Despite already having enormous workloads, Scott and Diana graciously and deftly led the staff through this time of tremendous change while achieving some remarkable results,” said Ryan Stiver, Chair of the Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association. “Scott and Diana have ensured these associations will have a seamless transition for Christy to take us into the next chapter.”

LaCurelle’s first day at the Associations will be September 3. Schloegel and Sanchez will remain in their current roles through September 3.

“I am looking forward to joining the team, learning about the work, and leading the team to greater results in the future,” said LaCurelle.

MotoAmerica: Rainey Says Thanks For Record-Breaking Ride To The Races

Wayne Rainey Says Thanks After Record-Setting “Rainey’s Ride To The Races” At Laguna Seca

A Record Amount Of $215,00 In Donations To Roadracing World Action Fund For Soft Barrier Purchases

Hello Everyone,

First of all, I want to thank everybody who took part in this year’s “Rainey’s Ride to the Races.” We had a record number of riders and raised a record amount of $215,000 in donations for the Roadracing World Action Fund. The highlight for me every year is inviting the Legends who come and give back to this generation of racers with their time and commitment to improve rider safety. I know all the Legends had a good time both on and off the bikes.

The fourth annual “Rainey’s Ride to the Races” was a huge success and again set a new record for the amount of money raised for the Roadracing World Action Fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The donations are used to purchase Airfence and Alpina soft barriers that help keep our athletes safe. Over the past four years “Rainey’s Ride to the Races” has raised over $500,000 for the Roadracing World Action Fund.

We had close to 100 riders heading out on the ride from the Moto Talbott Motorcycle Museum on the Friday of our race weekend at Laguna Seca. And they were joined by nine motorcycle racing legends – Eddie Lawson, Bubba Shobert, Rick Johnson, Scott Parker, Doug Chandler, Thomas Stevens, Miguel Duhamel, Ben Spies and John Kocinski. We had a better VIP experience this year using existing track facilities for lunch, and other weekend events, with the highlight always being a couple of laps around Laguna with the Legends.

Again, I want to thank again all the riders who helped us raise a record donation amount of over $215,000 this year for the RWAF, especially the Terry Vance Family Foundation, Mission Food’s Juan Gonzales and Robb Talbott for their incredibly generous contributions.

Additionally, I’d like to thank the California Highway Patrol for keeping everyone safe, Gordon McCall for again leading the ride, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and, of course, MotoAmerica and the MotoAmerica team who helped make this ride possible.

I’m already looking forward to the fifth annual Ride. See you all next year.

Wayne Rainey

MotoGP: Rins Re-Signs With Monster Energy Yamaha Through 2026

Yamaha Sign Álex Rins for the 2025 and 2026 MotoGP Season as Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Rider

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. is delighted to announce that Álex Rins will be staying on as a rider with the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team in 2025 and 2026 alongside Fabio Quartararo.

Silverstone (UK), 1st August 2024

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that Álex Rins has signed on with the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team for the 2025 and 2026 MotoGP season.

The vastly experienced Spaniard is a household name for MotoGP fans. He has ample experience in the MotoGP paddock and has many premier-class and lower-class race victories (6x MotoGP, 4x Moto2, 8x Moto3, 18 in total) and podiums (18x MotoGP, 17x Moto2, 23x Moto3, 58 in total) to his name.

These achievements, on top of his skills, superb work ethic, and attention to detail, have Yamaha fully confident in their partnership with the 28-year-old. Moreover, Rins’ extensive experience has proven extremely valuable in 2024 and keeping him as a part of the project is a crucial element in Yamaha’s multi-year plan where bike development has the highest priority.

Following a foot and a hand injury sustained by Rins at the 2024 Dutch GP Race, MotoGP fans are eager to see the number-42 rider return to action in the British GP weekend as the second half of the 2024 season commences. Rins underwent surgery during the summer break and has been giving it his 100% to make a full recovery in time for Silverstone.

LIN JARVIS

Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Racing

We are delighted to announce that Álex Rins will continue as a Yamaha factory rider for a further two years.

We have clearly stated that we have a strong desire and intent to return to the top again in the MotoGP championship. To achieve that goal, we have already recruited new staff, changed our internal organisation structures, and expanded our external technical partnerships. We have additionally committed to expand our presence in 2025 with an independent second Factory Team and now it is time to ensure that we have the riders we want to achieve the results we, and they, crave for.

Álex signing on for two more years is an important part of our plan for the MotoGP Project.

Álex is not only a very talented and fast rider, but he is also technically savvy, a hard worker, and a real team player. The collaboration between Álex and Fabio gives Yamaha the confidence that together they can strengthen the bike development project.

Now that the 2025-26 Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP rider line-up is established, we are greatly looking forward to the next 11 races of the 2024 season with Álex and Fabio, fully focused on the task at hand.

ÁLEX RINS

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Rider

I’m very happy to continue working with Yamaha for two more years, and I want to thank the team and the management in Iwata for their trust in me.

We have a clear goal, to bring Yamaha where it belongs, and that’s to fight for championships.

Since the first minute, I have seen Yamaha’s willingness to improve and how they are putting in all the resources to reach that objective. As a result, and thanks to our work, we have made some important steps this season heading in that direction, and we want to continue that way in the following years.

I’m delighted to keep bringing my experience in MotoGP and work ethic to a team that has proved to be pushing very hard all together and that will continue doing so.

Pipe Dreams Podcast (And Video) E17: Cameron Petersen – Long Road To The Top

Cameron Petersen – Long Road To The Top

MotoAmerica racers Corey Alexander and James Rispoli are excited to release Episode 17 of the Pipe Dreams Podcast, featuring current factory MotoAmerica Superbike racer Cameron Petersen.

Cameron’s racing quest began at a very young age and has spanned the globe from his birthplace in Spain, childhood upbringing in Zimbabwe, to his current residence in Southern California. The claimed South African grew up around racing under the tutelage of his father, ex-Grand Prix racer Robbie Petersen.

A successful launch to his professional campaign in the South African Supersport series led he and his father to leave everything behind, including his mom and sister, to continue his career in the then newly-formed MotoAmerica series. Like many of our guests, Cameron’s career has experienced its share of highs and lows.

Now in 2024, Cameron is in his second year of racing for one of the most coveted Superbike teams in the series and is a multi-time race winner. After hearing Cam’s story, this achievement seemed like an unattainable dream just a few short years ago.

We hope you enjoy hearing about the immense sacrifices Cameron and his entire family made to make his dreams come true.

Available on all major podcast platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music, the seventeenth full episode with Cameron is out now. Video of the episode can also be viewed on Spotify or YouTube.

American Gouker Takes Top-10 Finish At Catalunya

American Nathan Gouker Takes His First Top 10 Finish in ESBK Moto4 Race in Barcelona, Anthony Lupo Jr. Takes Top 15 Finish in Moto4, Kensei Matsudaira Injured in PreMoto3 Qualifying

July 28, 2024

The fourth round of the RFME ESBK Spanish Superbike Championship was held this past weekend at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. Americans Nathan Gouker and Anthony Lupo Jr. raced in Moto4, and Kensei Matsudaira in the PreMoto3 category.

Nathan Gouker returned to racing after an injury sustained six weeks ago in Round 2 in Valencia where he fractured his arm. Nathan made a strong return, qualifying 14th and finishing the weekend’s races with an 11th place finish in race 1, and a 10th place finish in race 2 where he finished less than 5 seconds from the race winner while setting the 3rd fastest lap time of the weekend.

Nathan Gouker:
“So thankful to be riding again. The Ajevo Nox#27 team had the Stadler bike working great all weekend, 2nd fastest top speed in race 2. Happy to show them some progression and better results than my previous showing. Of course we’re looking for better results, but recovering from injury just 6 weeks ago, this is exactly the weekend we were hoping for. We learned a ton, showed we have pace, and are starting to understand how to be more consistent and competitive each weekend. Thanks to all my sponsors, we couldn’t do this without you!”

After making his ESBK Moto4 debut in Round 3 at Estoril, Anthony Lupo Jr. continued to adapt to the new category and made progress throughout the weekend. He qualified in 18th and completed the two races of the weekend in 14th and 16th, getting closer and closer to the front each time and setting his fastest lap of the weekend in race 2.

Kensei Matsudaira continued to work with the team to improve the setup of his bike and his riding in the PreMoto3 category, and despite a strong showing in qualifying, he suffered a high speed crash at the end of the qualifying session and was ruled out of competition in the two races of the weekend. Fortunately his injuries were not serious and he will be making a return to racing for the next round in Estoril.

Kensei Matsudaira:
“I was working well during all the sessions and made another step forward in qualifying but unfortunately I had a big highside in turn 7 and wasn’t able to race this weekend. Nothing broken and I will be back on a bike in week. Thanks to HJC Helmets, Bison Track, and Alpinestars for keeping me safe. Full gas for the next round in Estoril! Thank you to the team and everyone for their support.”

The next race, round 5 of the RFME ESBK Spanish Superbike Championship will be held at Circuito Estoril in Estoril, Portugal on August 31 – September 1.

MotoGP: Contract With Local Government Secures Return To India

MotoGP™ signs contract with Uttar Pradesh for the Grand Prix of India

A new agreement, signed directly with the Government of Indian region Uttar Pradesh, confirms MotoGP™ will return to Buddh International Circuit for the next three seasons

Wednesday, 31 July 2024

MotoGP™ has signed a new contract with Invest UP, the Government of Uttar Pradesh’s agency that facilitates international investment into the state. The agreement confirms the Indian Grand Prix will be on the calendar from 2025 to 2027 inclusive. The event will continue to be held at Buddh International Circuit, which made its debut on the MotoGP™ calendar in 2023.

With a population of over 1.4 billion people and more than 200 million motorcycles on its roads, India is a key global market for MotoGP™, our manufacturers and many of the sport’s partners. Two-wheeled transportation counts for nearly 75% of the total number of vehicles used daily.

India also has a healthy established audience for MotoGP™, with further scope to grow in coming seasons. The inaugural Grand Prix at Buddh saw more than 100,000 fans come to see history made as the world’s most exciting sport raced in the country for the first time.

This new agreement, signed directly between MotoGP™ rights holder Dorna Sports and the government of Uttar Pradesh, the most populous region in India, provides the perfect backdrop to further the success of both the sport and motorcycle industry across the country.

Mr. Manoj Kumar Singh, Chief Secretary-cum-Infrastructure & Industrial Development Commissioner, Government of UP, emphasized the monumental significance of this agreement: “Bringing MotoGP to Uttar Pradesh not only elevates our state on the global sports stage but also catalyzes substantial economic growth across tourism, hospitality, and associated sectors. This event will magnetize visitors worldwide, spotlighting Uttar Pradesh’s prowess in hosting world-class sporting extravaganzas.”

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, said: “We’re very happy to announce this new agreement made directly with the government of Uttar Pradesh. The inaugural Indian Grand Prix was a key success and brought an enormous amount of value to both MotoGP™ and our host region of UP, so it’s fantastic we are able to continue building that together into the future.

“India is an essential market for MotoGP™, with a healthy, established audience for the racing, and one we know we can increase exponentially. There are also hundreds of millions of two-wheeled vehicles used across the country every day, making it vital for our manufacturers and for the sport itself thanks to MotoGP™’s position as the pinnacle of two wheels.

“We’re very proud to work directly with the government of Uttar Pradesh to bring MotoGP™ back to India, and UP and Buddh International Circuit, for the next three seasons.”
