Rancho Cucamonga, CA: Dunlop Motorcycle Tires is proud to announce SRX Racing Tires as their new Eastern Road Race and Flat Track Tire Distributor starting November 25, 2024.

Doing business east of the Mississippi, SRX will be the official Dunlop road race tire distributor supplying the record-breaking Sportmax Slick and Rain tires to club racers and track-day enthusiasts. SRX will also be supplying Dunlop’s popular DT4 flat track tires to amateur flat track racers and riders. To get in touch with SRX go to dunlopracing.com, email [email protected] or [email protected], or call (864) 266-3232.

“We are very excited to have SRX Racing Tires accept our offer to become our new Eastern Road Race and Flat Track tire distributor,” said Chad Geer, Director of Product, Marketing, and Motorsports for Dunlop Motorcycle Tires. “Sam and Rhonda (Hannon) are great people who have been with Dunlop at various levels and capacities over the years, so we are confident they have the knowledge, work ethic and commitment to build strong relationships with racers, race organizations, and track-day enthusiasts to promote the Dunlop brand and its superiority.”

“I have been in the motorcycle industry for over 30 years and during that time, I have always been with Dunlop. I started out with Dunlop when I was racing, sold Dunlop tires while I was one of their track-side vendors, and over the last few years I have been running the Dunlop tire service at MotoAmerica events. To now take on the role as Dunlop’s Eastern Race Tire Distributor, I am honored to have this opportunity and very proud and comfortable to promote a product and company I believe in,” stated Sam Hannon, Owner of SRX Racing Tires.

MotoAmerica: Racer/Chassis Tuner Kyle Ohnsorg Tests Talent Cup Racebike

Talent Cup: Kyle Ohnsorg Tests The Krämer APX-350 MA

By Sean Bice

Ever since the Krämer APX-350 MA was introduced this past June as the spec motorcycle for the 2025 MotoAmerica Talent Cup Championship, the biggest question has been, “What’s it like to ride it?” We got a hint in September during our round at Circuit of The Americas when Krämer Motorcycles USA test rider/engineer Finn Chapman did a few demonstration laps and participated in a Q&A session.
But, when accomplished motorcycle road racer and engineer Kyle Ohnsorg was asked to test the bike last month at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway (a.k.a. “Little Talladega”), the 10-turn, 1.33-mile road course located near Munford, Alabama, we followed up with Ohnsorg and asked him to give us his first-person evaluation of the bike. After all, Ohnsorg has ridden and raced a whole slew of motorcycles, from Junior Cup bikes, to Supersport machines, to a Roland Sands/Indian Challenger racebike on which he finished third in Mission King Of The Baggers race two at COTA in 2023. Also, he owns and operates Adrenaline Engineering, which specializes in motorcycle suspension and chassis tuning.

Kyle Ohnsorg tested the Krämer APX-350 MA during four straight days at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway, but because final graphics were not in place, no photos were made available of him riding the bike. Dorna accepted the MotoAmerica Talent Cup into its Road to MotoGP™ program primarily because the APX-350 MA was selected as the spec racebike for the series. Photo courtesy of Krämer Motorcycles USA.

Here is Ohnsorg’s full report, in his own words:

“Last month I received a call from Krämer USA asking if I wanted to assist in testing and developing the new Krämer APX-350 MA. Since I have had great experiences testing with Krämer in the past on their other impressive platforms (690 and 890), I jumped at the opportunity to get some seat time on the new bike. Krämer rented Talladega Gran Prix Raceway for four days of dedicated test-riding with a well-organized plan that covered changes to nearly every aspect of the motorcycle.

“Being six-feet tall and weighing 155 pounds, I had concerns that I would feel cramped on the bike but I found it to be much more comfortable than many of the other Junior Cup-sized bikes I have ridden and raced in the past. From lap one on the bike, I was blown away at the level of all-around performance and was smiling in my helmet the entire time. The APX-350 MA was light to transition and easy to turn in but did not feel nervous or twitchy. The power was impressively smooth and very predictable. I was impressed by how well the auto-blip and quick shifter worked throughout the track. Even at full lean angle in a decreasing-radius corner, I was able to downshift, and the bike remained planted and smooth. Unlike on other smaller-displacement bikes with softer frames/forks/swingarms, I could feel exactly where the tires were on track and could tell if I was sliding the rear or front at any time. The overall feel of the chassis made it easy to manage a slide with throttle, brake, lean angle, etc. Since we know that not all U.S. tracks are as smooth as MotoGP race courses, we made it part of our testing plan to hit the various bumps at “Little Tally” with various speeds and lean angles. This allowed us to tune both the suspension movement and the flex of the chassis to ensure we had a setup that offered plenty of feel, but also had enough compliance to handle bigger bumps. The bike offers full adjustability (rake, offset, ride height, suspension, ECU, etc.) that allowed us to try many different settings to further understand the capabilities and characteristics of the bike.

“At the conclusion of the four-day test, we ended up with a bike that I felt I could do anything with on track and would feel confident racing. I’m excited to see how the bike continues to progress and even more excited to see how the new 2025 MotoAmerica Talent Cup unfolds knowing how good the Krämer APX-350 MA is right out of the box.“

Ohnsorg’s work with the Krämer APX-350 MA will continue. He is set to test the bike again at COTA, which will enable him to help fine-tune the set-up even more and provide a solid baseline for the teams and riders to use in round one of next year’s inaugural Talent Cup Championship, also at COTA on March 28 to 30 during the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas MotoGP weekend.

MotoGP: Acosta Tops Crashes In 2024

“This is normal,” Pedro Acosta said in his post-Barcelona MotoGP test media briefing, when asked why all three rookies to the class in 2025 had crashed before noon on their first day of riding a MotoGP machine. “They have to learn the tires.”

Acosta would know personally the difficulty of making the change from a Moto2 machine to a MotoGP racebike. The only rookie in the field of 2024, Acosta led the annual falls report for the MotoGP class, hitting the ground 28 times, and said he struggled to adapt from the control Moto2 Dunlop tires to the Michelins used in MotoGP.

Marc Marquez was second with 24, the eight-time World Champion often on the ground as he adapted from riding the Honda RC213V – the only MotoGP machine he had ridden in his entire career – to a 2023-spec Ducati Desmosedici. Marquez crashed the Ducati fewer times than he crashed on the Honda in 2023. Even though he missed three race weekends in 2023, he still crashed the RC213V 29 times.

The 2023 Ducati proved to be tricky on the 2024-spec Michelin tires, with all of its riders near the top of the chart or suffering injuries due to crashes. Marquez’ brother Alex on the other Gresini Racing GP23 ended the season third on crashes with 21, Marco Bezzecchi on the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing GP23 crashed 18 times, and his teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio missed several races due to crash-related injuries.

Of the full-time riders, Honda’s Luca Marini crashed the fewest times, logging only four falls in 2014.

Zonta van der Goorbergh led the Moto2 class crashers with 18. David Almansa and Filippo Farioli crashed 18 times each to top the Moto3 crash chart.

Riders crashed most frequently at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto, with 74 falls logged over the weekend.

The total number of crashes fell from 1009 to 865, the lowest number of crashes since the pandemic-shortened season 0f 2020.

AMA Pro Racing Issues 2025 Progressive American Flat Track Schedule

AMA Pro Racing Announces Provisional 2025 Progressive American Flat Track Schedule

AMA Pro Racing has announced a 16-round schedule for the 2025 Progressive American Flat Track season, promising an exciting new era with a fresh, all-production ruleset and the #1 plate up for grabs following Jared Mees’ retirement.

That battle for supremacy will open with five consecutive bar-banging Short Tracks, starting with the series’ traditional Daytona Beach double opener during the 84th annual Daytona Bike Week. The schedule then transitions to a run through the Midwest, including a doubleheader in Lima, Ohio, and a high-speed showdown at the “Magic Mile” in DuQuoin, Illinois.

The Sturgis TT will serve as a highlight of the schedule again in ‘25, and this time around it will be joined by an all-new doubleheader – the Jackpine Gypsies Short Track I & II – which will also take place in Sturgis during the 85th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, just days ahead of Sunday’s TT.

The season’s stretch run will feature its two most iconic events – the world-famous 78th Peoria TT and a doubleheader at the legendary Springfield Mile – before returning to Lake Ozark Speedway for a season finale set during the 19th Annual Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest.

The AFT AdventureTrackers™ will return with an expanded schedule in ’25. Building on the class’ highly successful 2024 debut, it will be featured at all three Sturgis events, along with the Peoria TT.

The upcoming season will feature further innovation via the introduction of the Triple Challenge format that will be utilized at the Lima Half-Mile I, Jackpine Gypsies Short Track I and Springfield Mile I, in which the overall winner and final points payout will be determined by three races of increasing distance and importance.

Adding to the excitement along the way will be the inclusion of Royal Enfield’s Build. Train. Race. program at select events.

BMW Introduces 2025 F 900 R and F 900 XR

A 2025 BMW F 900 R.

BMW Motorrad USA proudly presents the updated 2025 F 900 R and F 900 XR. The new BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR benefit from technical and visual upgrades as well as from significantly extended standard equipment.

With the new BMW F 900 R dynamic roadster and the new F 900 XR crossover bike, BMW Motorrad takes its popular mid-range product range to a new level. Both F-models are designed for sportiness and fun with even more agile handling and are suitable for experienced riders as well as newcomers and those returning to motorcycling. While the new F 900 R focuses on sporty riding, the F 900 XR has everything it takes to be a confident partner on both windy roads and on longer tours with luggage.

“With a significantly extended range of standard equipment, fully adjustable upside-down forks, lighter wheels and a weight saving of 6.6 lbs., we have been able to make the BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR even more attractive. The new F 900 R also benefits from a sportier riding position and the F 900 XR from optimized aerodynamics.”
Anton Huber, Project Manager

Engine and Drivetrain

The new F 900 R and F 900 XR are even more dynamic and safer thanks to the new “Dynamic” riding mode and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), now standard.

In the new BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR, the tried-and-tested 895 cc two-cylinder in-line engine produces 105 hp and 68.6 lb-ft over a wide torque curve, while meeting current Euro 5+ homologation standards. With a 270/450 degree firing interval, the engine generates a very emotional exhaust note. The new sports silencer, available as a genuine BMW Motorrad Accessory in collaboration with Akrapovič, provides an even more expressive exhaust sound.

The F 900 R and F 900 XR are offered with two standard riding modes, Rain and Road. The optional Dynamic riding mode has received new settings. It has a throttle response curve that is more direct, making it ideal for sporty riding. Dynamic Traction Control DTC, which ensures a high level of riding safety, is also a new standard feature on both models. It contributes significantly to the high riding dynamics and exemplary riding safety. DTC provides valuable support and a significant safety advantage, especially in changing riding conditions, on surfaces with less grip and surfaces with changing friction.

The engine control unit detects a spinning rear wheel by comparing the speeds of the front and rear wheels via the ABS sensors with data from the lean angle sensor box. In this case, it reduces drive torque within milliseconds by reducing the ignition timing, intervening in the fuel injection system, and influencing the throttle position.

DTC also uses a sensor cluster to measure the lean angle and takes this into account in its control behavior. DTC works with the different riding modes to ensure maximum riding safety.

DTC provides valuable assistance and an enormous safety advantage when accelerating. However, it cannot redefine the physical limits of riding. It is still possible to exceed these limits through misjudgment or riding errors. However, DTC helps to make the most of the bike’s dynamic capabilities in a much safer manner. The DTC can be switched off separately for special requirements, such as riding on the track.

In addition to the anti-hopping clutch, the new BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR now feature standard MSR Engine Drag Torque Control. This system prevents rear wheel spin or skidding caused by abrupt throttle release or downshifting, for an even higher level of safety.

Chassis and Suspension

On both the new BMW F 900 R and the new BMW F 900 XR, the front wheel is guided by new, torsionally rigid, upside-down 43 mm telescopic forks. In contrast to the previous models, the rebound, compression and spring preload are all adjustable. This makes it possible to tailor the forks to suit individual requirements, operating conditions, and load conditions. Suspension travel is 5.3 inches (F 900 R) and 6.7 inches (F 900 XR).

The new F 900 R and F 900 XR also feature new 17-inch cast aluminum wheels from the S 1000 R model, which weigh around 3.9 lbs. less. The reduced rotational mass is reflected in improved acceleration, braking and handling. The wheel dimensions are 3.5 x 17″ front and 5.5 x 17″ rear with 120/70 ZR 17 and 180/55 ZR 17 tires.

Another new standard feature on the F 900 R and F 900 XR is BMW Motorrad ABS Pro. In contrast to BMW Motorrad ABS, ABS Pro goes one step further and offers more safety when braking in corners by enabling ABS-assisted braking at lean angles. ABS Pro prevents the wheels from locking even when the brakes are applied quickly and reduces abrupt changes in steering force and thus the bike from returning to the upright position, even during sudden braking. The benefits are increased braking and riding stability combined with the best possible deceleration even when cornering.

ABS Pro is designed for road use, with medium to low friction values and optimum braking stability in the Rain and Road riding modes. Regulation takes place at an early stage. In Dynamic mode, ABS Pro assumes that the road surface has very high grip and has a high coefficient of friction. Accordingly, ABS Pro is designed for optimum deceleration, control is late and rear wheel lift detection is reduced.

Another new standard safety feature is Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), which provides greater safety when braking in difficult situations by preventing unintentional acceleration. As soon as the sensor cluster supplies a certain deceleration value during braking, any simultaneous desire to accelerate on the part of the rider is detected as implausible and throttle valve opening is suppressed. This keeps the motorcycle stable and shortens the braking distance.

Electronics

The two new F Series models are equipped with a new battery that is 1.7 lbs. lighter. The new F 900 R and F 900 XR also have a new rear end with function-integrated turn indicator lights. In keeping with the “all in one” concept, the short, lightweight number plate holder and the rear turn indicator and number plate lights form a single unit, while the brake and taillight functions are integrated into the turn indicator lights.

The new F 900 XR features Headlight Pro with adaptive headlight as standard. Other new standard features include the USB-C charging port on the right-hand side of the cockpit with a maximum charging current of 2.4 A and heated grips.

The adaptive headlight, part of Headlight Pro, offers more safety when riding at night. This adds additional LED modules which allow for better illumination of the road in bends, ensuring a safer night-time ride. The adaptive headlight, which is unique in these two motorcycle classes, works by activating these additional LED elements in the main headlights, which are equipped with their own reflectors, depending on the lean angle. The adaptive headlight turns on when the motorcycle leans by more than 10 degrees and is travelling at a speed of more than 6 mph. The additional lighting effect functions optimally up to a lean angle of approx. 25°.

The F 900 XR has distinctive LED light guides to the left and right of the lower headlamp edge, indicating that it is part of the BMW Motorrad XR family.

Ergonomics and Design.

“We have made the riding position on the new F 900 R even more sporty and dynamic with an optimized ergonomic triangle. The new F 900 XR benefits from optimized front fairing aerodynamics, which is reflected in a significant reduction in helmet shake.”
Dominik Menzel, Product Manager

The handlebars, footrests and foot levers of the ergonomic triangle of the new BMW F 900 R have been redesigned. The handlebars are positioned further forwards than on the previous model. A sportier, front-leaning riding position has been achieved by moving the footrests further back and optimizing the foot control positions.

The new F 900 XR offers more touring capability and long-distance comfort thanks to optimized aerodynamics in the front fairing. The redesigned wind deflector reduces wind pressure on the rider, resulting in significantly less helmet buffeting and even greater riding comfort.

The hand protectors, which are standard for all equipment variants, also provides improved protection from the wind and weather. The new F 900 XR can also be fitted with a new, optional 1.18-inch higher windscreen.

Standard and Optional Equipment

Like all 2025 model year BMW motorcycle models, the new F 900 R and F 900 XR include the Ultimate Care Break-In Service, or “600 Mile Service” as standard. This included service further provides BMW customers with a truly premium experience. Time and mileage limits apply – maximum 6 months from the in-service date or maximum 750 miles – whichever comes first.

Pedro Acosta (31). Photo by Michael Gougis.

Tickets for the DAYTONA Short Track I & II are already on sale, while the remainder of the season’s slate will be made available for purchase in the weeks ahead.
