MotoGP: Martin, Zarco Staying With Pramac Racing In 2022

Johann Zarco and Jorge Martin will remain as the riders for the Pramac Racing Team for the 2022 season.

Pramac Racing is glad to announce that the formation of the team will remain unchanged for the next MotoGP season. Johann Zarco, the 30-year-old from France, and Jorge Martín, 23 years old from Spain, will defend the team colors once more for the next MotoGP season. After the first six Grand Prix with three podiums, Zarco is second in the world standings. Martín mean whilst, a rookie in the highest tier, obtained a splendid third place at the second race in Qatar. He then fell victim to a bad crash at Portimao which has kept him out of all the Grand Prix up to this weekend. Both riders, who are directly under a contract with Ducati, will be able to use the Desmosedici GP 2022 next year.

Paolo Campinoti: “We are very satisfied to be able to continue on this “project” with Johann and Jorge, two boys with whom we get along very well and with whom we are reaching excellent results. Both Ducati and ourselves firmly believe in their abilities; we couldn’t be happier.”

Paolo Ciabatti: “Johann and Jorge this year have inserted themselves very well in the Pramac Racing team. For this reason, together with Paolo Campinoti and Francesco Guidotti, we have decided to proceed with them into 2022. We will put at the disposition of both, the official bikes for next season as well. We are certain that they will provide us with many satisfactions.”

MotoAmerica: Jump Start Penalty Changed

MotoAmerica has updated the penalty associated with race start infractions like jump starts, according to Competitor Bulletin 08-2021.

A jump start, or “anticipation of the start,” is defined as the “motorcycle moving forward when the red start lights are on” whether or not the motorcycle leaves the rider’s grid spot.

Historically and up until the last round of the MotoAmerica season, the penalty for a jump start has been a ride-through penalty where the rider is required to ride through pit lane during the race at or below the pit lane speed limit (60 kph/37 mph) before exiting pit lane and rejoin the race.

In most cases, this is a severe penalty. For instance, when Bobby Fong served a ride-through penalty for jumping the start of MotoAmerica Superbike Race Two at Road Atlanta, the ride-through penalty cost him about 20 seconds.

For 2021, the FIM Superbike World Championship, following the lead of the FIM MotoGP World Championship has switched to issuing two long-lap penalties to any rider who has a jump start.

A long-lap penalty is when the rider must navigate a pre-determined section of track outside of the normal road course, costing them extra time but only a few extra seconds.

At the wet French Grand Prix, Jack Miller exceeded the pit lane speed limit during the mid-race bike changeover, incurring a double long-lap penalty. Those penalties added about five seconds total to Miller’s time and he was still able to win the race.

Racetracks used by MotoAmerica are not currently set up with sections of track to be used for long-lap penalties.

Considering all of this, MotoAmerica, which runs under rules set by AMA and closely following FIM rules, has decided to change the “standard and minimum penalty” for a jump start to a five-second time penalty to be assessed at the end of the race.

Penalized riders and their teams, however, will be notified of the penalty during the race “as soon as practical,” according to the MotoAmerica Competitor Bulletin. Greater penalties may also be imposed for those who gain a “significant advantage or for repeated offenses during the season at the discretion of Race Direction.”

According to MotoAmerica Operations Director Niccole Cox, MotoAmerica is exploring the possibility of adding long-lap penalties in 2022.

More, from another press release issued by Team Suzuki ECSTAR:

Alex Rins has been ruled out of his home GP after a cycling accident. The Team Suzuki Ecstar rider will unfortunately have to sit out the Grand Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya due to an unfortunate accident he suffered while training this morning with his bicycle on track.

The Spaniard fell during a training lap and as a result he suffered damage to his right arm, with a large contused area and a lot of pain. He was quickly taken to Barcelona’s Universitari Dexeus Hospital for further examination and medical checks revealed a fracture in the radius bone. The fracture was immobilised and tomorrow morning Rins will undergo surgery to fix it.

Furthermore, he also had a cranial impact during the crash so he was checked with a CT Scan upon his arrival in hospital – the test revealed nothing of concern.

Doctor Xavier Mir, Director of the Hand Surgery and Microsurgery Unit in the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedic Surgery at the Universitari Dexeus Hospital reported: “Alex Rins has suffered an articular fracture of the right distal radius with a small displacement and high inflammation. We have two options; one is to immobilise the fracture with plaster, but the recovery would take around 4-6 weeks. Or, as an alternative, we propose an operation, which we consider is the best option. Tomorrow morning we will intervene and affix two screws to the injured bone”.

TEAM DIRECTOR

Esteban joined our team in 2019. He and Maverick had already worked together before in 2013 and won the Moto3 World Championship that year. We are very grateful to Esteban for his dedication and passion during our time spent together, which led to eleven podiums for Maverick, including four wins, three second places, and four third places. Saying ’Goodbye‘ to one of our crew members is always a sad occasion, but it was a mutual decision based on what‘s best for both parties. We wish Esteban all the best for the future.
