Editorial Note: To decrease track density and increase safety in Stock 1000 sessions, MotoAmerica has decided that the top five riders in the Stock 1000 Championship will from now on ride in Superbike sessions instead of Stock 1000 sessions. This will require Stock 1000 rider results from the two sessions to be combined to determine the final Stock 1000 qualifying order. On Friday, Andy DiBrino, who rode his Ridge Motorsports Park/DiBrino Racing Kawasaki ZX-10R in the Stock 1000 session, was quickest overall with a 1:43.278.

More, from a press release issued by Fairium NGRT:

Third Pole Position out of four races for Rossi Moor.

The first day of the Northern Talent Cup ended in Assen, a very uncertain weather situation awaited the riders for the whole day. In the first free practice of the morning Rossi Moor used to get to know the track well since he never raced the Assen TT in the Cathedral of Speed, despite this, he immediately ranked first. In the afternoon the Fp2 with a totally wet track due to the rain and since between the Fp2 and the Qualifying there was only half an hour Rossi preferred to concentrate on the setup of the bike for the wet. Same situation before qualifying, dry track but very cloudy sky that foreshadowed more rain in the short term, Rossi’s strategy discussed with the team was perfect, immediately in the first laps he proved to be the fastest and on the fourth lap with the time of 1.51.284 has won the Pole Position for the third time out of four races.

Race 1 Saturday 5.15pm CET

Race 2 Sunday 16.30 CET
Rossi Moor:

Very strange day today with very uncertain weather, however I am happy with my 3rd pole in four races. Unfortunately, I crashed in my fastest lap (in the second split I was almost one second faster), but it doesn’t matter. I still got pole distancing the second by almost half a second.

Baz Leads Fast MotoAmerica Friday At Ridge Motorsports Park

Loris Baz On Provisional Pole For HONOS Superbikes In Pacific Northwest

SHELTON, WA (June 25, 2021) – You have to walk before you can run and today Loris Baz started to jog as he earned provisional pole for the weekend’s two MotoAmerica HONOS Superbike races on a scorching-hot afternoon at Ridge Motorsports Park by out-qualifying Jake Gagne, a task that has proven to be virtually impossible thus far in 2021.

Frenchman Baz and his Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati New York Panigale V4 R and Gagne and his Fresh N’ Lean Attack Performance Yamaha YZF-R1 both did their best laps on their seventh go-arounds of the 2.47-mile Ridge, with Baz lapping at 1:40.374 to best Gagne by just .169 of a second.

“It was a good session, like all the weekend since Thursday,” Baz said. “Doing a good job, the guys from the team are doing an amazing job to make me feel comfortable on the bike. We’ve been talking since the beginning of the season that we still don’t have the base setup we want, and I think we found the direction after qualifying at Road America and we showed in race one that we were fast. We’ve just gone in the same direction and improving, and I felt more comfortable on the bike because also we make less changes so every time I go out I know the bike better and I improve myself on the bike. It was a good session. I missed my laps with the last tire, and I think I could have done a couple of tenths more faster. I did a couple of mistakes in section two, and I think I can improve on the electronics, but I’m pretty happy. I’m happy because we worked all day yesterday and this morning with a full fuel tank race simulation and I did a lot of laps. That (Q1) was really the first session we put in low fuel for a time attack, and it worked well so I am happy. I’m improving on my weak point with the Dunlop that is the early laps. That’s where Jake (Gagne) is so strong in the beginning of the race. I’m really happy with what the team is doing because we started late but are catching up.”

Gagne’s best in Q1 was slower than in the morning FP1 session, held in much cooler temperatures, when he dipped under Cameron Beaubier’s lap record with a 1:40.110. Baz, meanwhile, lapped at 1:40.621 in the morning session.

Westby Racing’s Mathew Scholtz was the only other rider to dip into the 1:40s, the South African lapping at 1:40.989 on his 21st lap. Gagne’s teammate Josh Herrin was fourth fastest in Q1 with a 1:41.068, just ahead of M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Cameron Petersen’s 1:41.195.

M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Sean Dylan Kelly put his GSX-R600 on provisional pole for the MotoAmerica Supersport races, the Floridian .652 of a second faster than his rival Richie Escalante and the HONOS HVMC Racing Kawasaki. Kelly’s teammate Sam Lochoff ended the session in third.

Ben Gloddy rode his Landers Racing Kawasaki Ninja 400 to provisional pole in the SportbikeTrackGear.com Junior Cup class. Veloce Racing’s Max Toth was second fastest with Scott Powersports/KTM’s Tyler Scott completing the provisional front row.

Ridge Motorsports Park/DiBrino Racing’s Andy DiBrino put his local knowledge to good use by earning provisional pole in the Stock 1000.

Twins Cup had its Q1 session on a hot Friday afternoon and it was Veloce Racing’s Anthony Mazziotto leading the way over Robem Engineering’s Kaleb De Keyrel and Righteous Racing’s Jody Barry, who was returning to action following his big crash at Road America. Mazziotto was .600 of a second faster than De Keyrel.

Baz Stuns in The Woods of Washington By Going P1 on Friday At The Ridge

A New Track doesn’t Faze the Frenchman as he Puts the Ducati Panigale V4 R in P1

Sunnyvale, Calif., June 25, 2021 – You wouldn’t know The Ridge is a totally new track for Loris Baz and his Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati New York Panigale V4 R SBK, as the Frenchman goes P1 in the first qualifying session ahead of championship leader, Yamaha’s Jake Gagne.

The sole Ducati rider this weekend following Kyle Wyman’s crash at Road America and subsequent broken elbow, Baz completed 20 laps of The Ridge’s undulating layout. His best time (1:40.374) is 0.169-seconds clear of Gagne in Q1. It’s tight, with the top six covered by just over one second.

Baz and the Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati New York team will now regroup for Qualifying 2 tomorrow morning but the early signs are positive for a good result in Washington.

Loris Baz (Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati New York – Ducati #76)

“It’s been a pretty good day,” Baz said. “I definitely think we found the right way to set up the bike after qualifying in Road America. I feel better on the bike and we’re going the same direction now. Each time we make a change, they’re just small steps. We’re not making massive changes to the bike from session to session, and it makes a difference because each time I get on the bike I know what to expect.

“I’m really enjoying the V4 R now. This is the best the bike has been all year, it’s still not perfect but we’ve made a lot of good improvements and we’re working really well as a team.

I’m really happy to end the day P1. My last lap I think I had two-tenths in the pocket and missed it, but anyway, tomorrow morning we have another qualifying session and another Q tire so we’ll try again, but I’m really happy to start the weekend like this.”

British Superbike: Bridewell Fastest In Practice At Oulton Park

Editorial Note: American Brandon Paasch, riding his Dynavolt Triumph Street Triple RS 765, was seventh overall in British Supersport practice Friday at Oulton Park.

More, from a press release issued by MotorSport Vision Racing:

Bridewell fastest to lead the SUPERPICKS 12 into Oulton Park Qualifying

Tommy Bridewell set the benchmark on the opening day of the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park today, launching his Oxford Products Racing Ducati ahead of Jason O’Halloran in the final two minutes of the session to lead the SUPERPICKS 12 into tomorrow’s action in Cheshire.

The new event format instantly delivered a battle to be in the leading 12 positions on the combined free practice times after the opening two sessions, which selects the SUPERPICKS 12 who automatically progress into tomorrow’s pole position-deciding Q2 session.

The opening session took place in damp conditions and that added even more importance to this afternoon’s SUPERPICKS free practice two.

At the beginning of the session Kyle Ryde had been one of the first riders to move to the top of the times, however it wasn’t long before Christian Iddon edged ahead for the VisionTrack Ducati team.

The Rich Energy OMG Racing BMWs were on the attack though and Bradley Ray went to the top, only for his teammate Ryde to displace him shortly afterwards.

Ryde was heading the times from Danny Buchan, Ray and Josh Brookes when a technical problem for Joey Thompson caused a red flag for track contamination.

A final shootout for the top 12 positions commenced when the session resumed as Buchan headed to the top of the times for SYNETIQ BMW ahead of Danny Kent, Iddon, Gino Rea and O’Halloran.

McAMS Yamaha then went to the top of the times as O’Halloran upped the pace again to lead Iddon in second position and Buchan in third.

However Bridewell was on a roll and his final sequence of laps fired him to the top of the times in the closing three minutes to hold off O’Halloran and Iddon.

Ray’s final lap put him up into fourth position ahead of Buchan and Peter Hickman who led the FHO Racing BMW charge.

Tarran Mackenzie made it both McAMS Yamahas in the top eight as he held off Lee Jackson and Danny Kent with his final run.

Defending champion Brookes completed the top ten for VisionTrack Ducati as Glenn Irwin and Gino Rea rounded out the SUPERPICKS 12 – the riders who will automatically progress into tomorrow’s Qualifying 2 session.

Tomorrow the action continues with a final Bennetts BSB Free Practice session ahead of the two stage SUPERPICKS Qualifying and the opening BikeSocial race of the triple-header weekend.

Fastest on combined SUPERPICKS Free Practice times

“In the wet this morning, we made some big changes and I just felt confident and happy that I could go a good chunk quicker. The track was drying fairly rapidly so we sat the last five minutes out and I was happy with that.

“For the afternoon session I put in a bit of a banker lap in, which put me in fourth and that felt good. I always knew the last 15 minutes would be like a mini qualifying session after the red flag and that was good fun.

“The new free practice format is very good for me because I am definitely a Saturday and Sunday man, but I have to focus and work harder on a Friday. I actually prefer it now because it means something – I go straight through to the Q2 in qualifying.

“The bike and the team are working really well, but we are definitely keeping our feet on the ground because it is early days. I love this place and I can’t wait to get racing tomorrow.”

Successful surgery for Franco Morbidelli

PETRONAS Yamaha SRT rider underwent knee surgery this morning in Bologna, Italy

This morning PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team rider Franco Morbidelli underwent a 1-hour surgery for his injured meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Carried out in Casa di Cura Madre Fortunata Toniolo at Bologna, Professor Maurilio Marcacci and his team are satisfied with the surgery and the outcome of the operation. Franco will now stay in the hospital until Sunday for observation. Upon release the Italian will be able to start the recovery process, which will include an eight-week rehabilitation programme.

Franco Morbidelli

After another painful incident with my left knee training on Wednesday I made the decision, together with PETRONAS Yamaha SRT and the VR46 Academy, to fix this issue that I’ve been carrying for too long now. I underwent surgery this morning with only one idea in my mind: to come back in the best form as soon as possible and to be able to perform at 100% on the bike. I want to thank Professor Maurilio Marcacci and his team for their work. I can’t wait to be able to start my recovery process. I’ll miss my team, my bike and all the fans during this period, but I’m looking forward to being at the circuits again and enjoying racing. Thank you for all of your messages of support.
