More, from a press release issued by American Flat Track:

Bauman Strikes Late to Win Port Royal Half-Mile

Whale takes points lead with third victory; Gauthier scores first win of 2021.

PORT ROYAL, Penn. (July 24, 2021) – Reigning Mission SuperTwins presented by S&S Cycle Champion Briar Bauman (No. 1 Indian Motorcycle/Progressive Insurance FTR750) denied Brandon Price (No. 92 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750) a first-career Progressive American Flat Track victory in a spectacular inaugural Port Royal Half-Mile presented by Appalachian Harley-Davidson at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pennsylvania.

One day after dominating the pre-race test, Price looked more than capable of doing the same in Saturday’s Main. The Mission Roof Systems pilot worked his way up from outside the top five and into the lead with apparent ease, grabbing the lead just a minute-and-a-half into the contest.

It took the remaining eight-and-a-half minutes for Bauman to reel him back in, frequently employing a very wide line that provided the requisite momentum when it came time for the decisive strike.

That ‘strike’ was actually ‘strikes’ as Bauman threw in a pair of hard passes over the race’s final two laps to put Price behind him and keep him there to the checkered flag.

After securing the 19th win of his career, Californian-turned-Pennsylvanian Bauman said, “I knew I needed to do it late. (Price) had been known today to not be afraid to kinda come up the inside and meet you at the exit. I knew if I was going to do it, I had to run scared and get out quick. I got him once, and then he was able to get back by me in 3 and 4. So I did it again.

“I love this stuff. I love this state, and I love these types of tracks. It was kind of a bummer that I struggled for so long (throughout the day), but I don’t really get that fired up until the Main Event. I was happy to get fired up when it counted and make that one count.”

For Price, the runner-up represented yet another near-miss. On the upside, he also demonstrated both the speed and skill to push the world’s top dirt tracker to the brink.

“It’s a boost of confidence, but I’m gutted at the same time,” Price said. “I led pretty much the whole entire race. I felt him the last few laps, but he made a good move going into Turn 1. I tried to get him back but the track is very technical out there, and I just couldn’t get a drive off of Turn 4 to challenge him for the win.”

Jarod Vanderkooi (No. 20 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750) translated his first-ever Mission Challenge win into the early lead. However, he ultimately found himself overhauled by Price, Bauman, and, finally, Jared Mees (No. 9 Indian Motorcycle/Progressive Insurance FTR750), who snatched away the final spot on the podium.

Fifth went to Davis Fisher (No. 67 BMC Racing/Dick Wall 60 Indian FTR750) by a scant 0.008-seconds over Bronson Bauman (No. 37 Indian Motorcycle of Oklahoma City FTR750), who came out of his Semi looking like a Main Event favorite.

Brandon Robinson (No. 44 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750) finished an uncharacteristic seventh. That off result allowed Bauman to rip open a rather significant championship lead, as Bauman now heads the order by a full 25 points (164-139) over Robinson with Mees in third at 133.

AFT Singles

Max Whale (No. 18 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 450 SX-FFE) took sole command of the AFT Singles championship by adding a third victory to his ‘21 title campaign.

The win didn’t come easily. To earn it, the Australian was forced to go back and forth with a hard-charging Kody Kopp (No. 143 Smartop/Jones Honda/Latus Motors CRF450R), whose performance went a long way to fully justifying the rookie’s abundant preseason hype.

Kopp led several laps and squared up Whale on a number of occasions as part of an adrenaline-fueled ride to a maiden Progressive AFT podium. While his sights were set on the win, Kopp was nearly displaced to third with high-line maestro Morgen Mischler (No. 13 Mission Roof Systems KTM 450 SX-F) ending a race-long charge 0.022-seconds short of the runner-up spot.

Trevor Brunner (No. 21 American Honda/Progressive Insurance CRF450R) and Trent Lowe (No. 48 WBR/Suzuki Motor of America RM-Z450) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. The two followed in Mischler’s wake, reeling in the leaders to put themselves in podium contention on a thrilling final lap that saw the top five finish within a second-and-a-half at the checkered flag.

Race winner Whale said, “This track is really hard when you’re leading; I didn’t know what anybody was doing behind me. I had a good start, but then I saw a red front fender come around the outside in (Turns) 1 and 2 and thought, ‘Oh — I’m going to have to see what that is next lap.’

“Kody rode a great race with very minimal mistakes, but I found a few lines in 3 and 4 and had a better run off 4 and ended up getting him. But he rode awesome.”

Whale’s big night was made that much bigger as a result of the relative struggles of defending class champion Dallas Daniels (No. 1 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F), who finished ninth, and rival Henry Wiles (No. 17 American Honda/Progressive Insurance CRF450R), who finished 15th.

Whale now leads Daniels by 15 points (151-136). When asked how that expanded margin impacts his strategy moving forward, he said, “Nothing changes. I’m just going to try to keep winning races. The bike is good and I’m enjoying it, so I might as well keep trying.”

2019 AFT Singles champion Dalton Gauthier (No. 79 D&D Cycles/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson XG750R) earned his first AFT Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines victory of the season tonight with a large contingent of home-state fans cheering him on.

Gauthier shook free from 2018 AFT Singles king and fellow Pennsylvanian Dan Bromley (No. 62 Memphis Shades/Vinson Construction Yamaha MT-07) relatively early. He then went about building up his advantage en route to a blowout victory.

“It felt awesome winning in front of all the PA fans,” Gauthier said. “That was a fun race track, and I hope we come back next year. That helped my confidence so much. I’ve just been struggling so much this year. I’ve been trying my hardest, but I feel like I shouldn’t be trying so hard. Tonight, I just cruised out there. I can’t thank the Vance & Hines guys enough for giving me an awesome motorcycle.”

Title leader and holeshot expert Cory Texter (No. 65 G&G Racing/Yamaha Racing Yamaha MT-07) made Gauthier’s breakthrough a bit easier by stumbling off the start from pole. By the race’s midpoint, Texter clawed his way into a three-way battle with Bromley and 2020 AFT Singles champ Dallas Daniels (No. 32 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07).

Despite taking part in his first-ever oval race aboard a twin-cylinder (he earlier won his class debut at the Atlanta Super TT), Daniels overcame the twin challenge presented by Texter and Bromley to lock down an most impressive runner-up finish.

As for Texter, the fact that a seventh podium in eight races felt like a bit of a disappointment is a testament to the type of season he’s putting together. Despite Gauthier’s Saturday night triumph, Texter walked away with a still-imposing 31-point lead in his favor.

Johnny Lewis (No. 10 Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield Twins FT) fought his way forward throughout the Main, ultimately putting the Royal Enfield ahead of Bromley’s Yamaha for fourth by 0.007 seconds.

The Port Royal Half-Mile presented by Appalachian Harley-Davidson will air on NBCSN on Sunday, August 15, at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT, featuring exclusive features and cutting-edge aerial drone and onboard footage.

Rea prevails in WorldSBK title fight as he becomes the first rider in history to win at one track 13 times

As the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship returned to the TT Circuit Assen, a titanic three-way battle for the podium welcomed fans back to the circuit as Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) continued to make history with his 13th victory in Race 1 at the Prosecco DOC Dutch Round.

It means Rea becomes the first rider in WorldSBK history to win 13 times at a single circuit, having converted pole position into a win after he held off the challenge from his nearest rivals to claim more WorldSBK history. The race was Red Flagged with just a few of the scheduled 21 laps following a crash for Jonas Folger (Bonovo MGM Action) at Turns 6 and 7; after the German rider was on course for a career best WorldSBK result. Folger was conscious and taken to the medical centre for a check-up following the crash. The German rider will be transported to Assen Hospital for further assessments and has been declared unfit for the remainder of the round.

LIGHTS OUT AND A BATTLE FROM THE OFF

Polesitter Rea lost out from the start to Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK), with the Championship leader able to jump Rea on the run down to Turn 1. The Turkish star then ran wide through Turn 4, allowing Rea back through with the six-time Champion tried to break away but to no avail.

Rea’s start and Razgatlioglu running wide allowed Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) to challenge the leaders but his race soon came to an end after he crashed at Turn 8 on Lap 3, forcing the Italian to retire from the race. It was the same corner that Alvaro Bautista (Team HRC) had a crash at a lap earlier which put the Spanish rider out of the race.

It allowed Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), who has shown glimpses of strong pace throughout the weekend so far, was able to close in on Razgatlioglu and Rea, before Rea made his move on Razgatlioglu on Lap 5. Three laps later, Redding made the move on Razgatlioglu at the same corner, the fast right-hander of Turn 6, demoting Razgatlioglu to third.

AN ONGOING TITANIC BATTLE

There was nothing to separate the lead trio as the race entered the second half of the 21-lap encounter although a mistake from Redding allowed Razgatlioglu through for second place, but it also allowed Rea to jump ahead by a couple of seconds ahead of the battling duo, with Razgatlioglu and Redding continue to fight until the end; Redding finishing the race in second place ahead of Razgatlioglu after passing the Turkish star on Lap 16 to secure second place.

Home hero Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) claimed a stunning fourth after battling his way up from ninth on the grid, taking advantage of the crashes to Rinaldi and Bautista as well as Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), with Lowes crashing at Turn 5 on Lap 3. Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK) equalled his best WorldSBK result to date with fifth. Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team finished in sixth place after starting from 21st; the American did not set a lap time in the Tissot Superpole Session. Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) started one position ahead of Gerloff, after a technical issue in Superpole, but finished one place behind the American in seventh. Leon Haslam (Team HRC) claimed eighth place with Chaz Davies (Team GoEleven) and Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) claiming ninth and tenth respectively.

COMPLETING THE POINTS

Isaac Viñales (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) claimed his best WorldSBK result to date with Leandro Mercado (MIE Racing Honda Team) returning to the points after him and MIE Racing opted to miss some rounds to focus on improving the bike. Loris Cresson (OUTDO TPR Team Pedercini Racing) claimed his first WorldSBK points with 13th place, taking advantage of wildcard Andrea Mantovani (Vince64)’s double Long Lap Penalty being converted into a ride through penalty after he did not take his Long Lap Penalties.

TO NOTE

Tito Rabat (Barni Racing Team) was a late-race retirement after he brought his Ducati machine back to the pitlane. Kohta Nozane (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) crashed out of the final chicane while Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) also crashed out, at Turn 15; both Nozane and Mahias crashed on Lap 13.

The top six following WorldSBK Race 1 at the last completed lap, full results here:

1. Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK)

2. Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) +3.093s

3. Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK) +3.214s

4. Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) +4.478s

P1 Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK)

“I felt good from the get-go. Just a little bit of battling with Toprak. I wanted to get a clear track and do my rhythm because I knew that I could be a little bit faster and try to push away. At the end, I just had to manage a little bit as the rear tyre was dropping. I already took the best performance out of it. So happy, so happy to have these guys here in the grandstands. Looking forward to tomorrow. Now we have almost 21 laps under our belt because of the Red Flag. I hope the guy that went down is okay. Come back tomorrow with more info and try again.”

P2 Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati)

“First of all, it’s great to have all the fans back here. It really gives emotion when you battle, you really feel the adrenaline, you push for every centimetre on the track. I hope you guys were entertained. I struggled a little bit in the beginning and then I got my pace. Then I started to fight Toprak and we gave Jonathan the time to go away. I felt I had the pace to close the gap but because I was fighting, I used a lot of the tyre. We ended up P2 and I’m happy with that. It’s good to be back on the podium and great to be here in Assen.”

P3 Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK)

“Normally, in the race, I was waiting until the last lap because I can follow Scott and see which corners he is slower in. I was waiting until the last lap, but we saw the Red Flag. I am not happy because in the first laps I was feeling good, but after the front tyre was destroyed and it wasn’t possible to follow Jonny. Tomorrow, we will see.”

More, from a press release issued by MotorSport Vision Racing:

Boom! It’s Buchan fastest from Iddon at Brands Hatch

Danny Buchan fired the SYNETIQ BMW to the top of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship SUPERPICKS Free Practice times at Brands Hatch this afternoon, in a top 12 covered by just 0.969s as he moved fastest in the final minutes of the day.

The top 12 riders progress directly into tomorrow’s Q2 session and Buchan continued to build momentum throughout the day at his local circuit, snatching the leading position from championship leader Christian Iddon in the closing moments.

The VisionTrack Ducati rider had moved ahead in the final ten minutes when he upped the pace to nudge Jason O’Halloran down the order; the McAMS Yamaha rider had been leading the way with 20 minutes remaining of the second session.

His teammate Tarran Mackenzie was fourth despite his small crash earlier this morning, but a resurgent Glenn Irwin stormed into fifth for Honda Racing in the closing stages, pushing Lee Jackson back into sixth.

Gino Rea had held a position inside the top ten for the majority of the session for Buildbase Suzuki and he was seventh, narrowly ahead of the second SYNETIQ BMW of Andrew Irwin.

Peter Hickman and Bradley Ray completed the top ten with Tommy Bridewell and Kyle Ryde the final riders to make the cut for the SUPERPICKS 12, who will be guaranteed their place in tomorrow’s Q2 session.

For defending champion Josh Brookes, his woes continued as he just missed out in 13th position on the second of the VisionTrack Ducatis.

Bennetts British Superbike Championship, Brands Hatch, SUPERPICKS Free Practice 2 result:

  6. Lee Jackson (FS-3 Kawasaki) +0.558s
  7. Gino Rea (Buildbase Suzuki) +0.563s
  8. Andrew Irwin (SYNETIQ BMW) +0.630s
  9. Peter Hickman (FHO Racing BMW) +0.645s
  10. Bradley Ray (Rich Energy OMG Racing BMW) +0.739s
  11. Tommy Bridewell (Oxford Products Racing Ducati) +0.804s

Danny Buchan – SYNETIQ BMW

Fastest at Brands Hatch after SUPERPICKS Free Practice 1&2

“I am feeling good and to top a session is a good way to start the weekend. To come to Brands Hatch and show that we can be fast here as well as on the tight and twisty tracks is a big thing for me.

“There’s been a lot of critics; obviously it’s not done yet, but people have been saying I can only win at Knockhill, but I know I can win at other tracks!

“It’s a credit to my SYNETIQ BMW team. We made some changes there at the start of the session it didn’t feel 100 percent good, so we made another change and it felt amazing, even on the used tyres it felt really strong, so I’m confident wet or dry we can do a good job.”

This is an incredible opportunity for me to join this historic brand, and I am honored and humbled to be a part of the development and release of their off-road motorcycles. Building something from the ground up is something that really is intriguing to me at this stage of my career. What is impressive to me is Triumph’s dedication, and passion to develop a top of the class product. Everyone that I have been involved with this project, from the engineers, design groups, R&D dept., etc., have shown extreme passion for what they are doing and that is a recipe for success and something that I love being a part of.
We all share that same passion, and that’s to be the best.

If you are familiar with the Triumph brand, you already know the quality of craftsmanship is top shelf, and the off-road models will follow suit to their past!

Not only are these exciting times for me, but it’s an exciting time for the off-road industry to be adding another brand to the mix and the opportunities that lie ahead for all off-road consumers.  I can’t wait to see the reactions when these models hit the dealer’s showroom floors.”

Ivan Cervantes:

“I have loved Triumph motorcycles right from being a small kid, seeing them in films and on television. So, to be working with Triumph from the beginning of this project is an amazing opportunity for me, not just because it is working with one of the world’s greatest motorcycle brands but also for being part of building something from zero.  It is a dream come true for any racer!

Like me, everyone I am working with at Triumph is focused to make the bikes the best they can be.  I cannot wait to see the bikes competing at a world level, but I also look forward to when I can stand in a Triumph dealer and know I was part of this very special project.”

Ricky Carmichael – The G.O.A.T.

To many, this motorcycle hall of fame inductee will need no introduction. Ricky Carmichael is the greatest motocross racer of all time, aka “The G.O.A.T”.  As an amateur RC won 67 National Championships, before turning pro at age 17.  In his pro career, he won a record 15 motocross championships, with two perfect seasons, and a further five supercross championships.  Over both motocross and supercross RC won an unsurpassed 150 races.  Ever popular in the paddock and with fans, RC was voted AMA Rider of the year five times during his career.

Since retirement from professional level motocross racing as an athlete, RC has still stayed heavily involved in the sport he loves, from owning a championship winning team, designing tracks for the Daytona Supercross, running Ricky Carmichael University, commentating on the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, and working with Triumph as part of the most exciting development in his sport in decades.

Bio:
Iván Cervantes – El Torito

Five time World Champion Iván Cervantes’ racing career began in motocross, where the Spaniard won five national titles, before moving to enduro in 2002.  At 23 years old, Iván made history by becoming the first Spanish champion in the EnduroGP E1 category.  He followed this with a further three world championship titles in EnduroGP and an FIM Indoor Enduro World Cup championship title.  In 2008, Iván became Spain’s first and only overall winner, in the 83rd edition of the International Six Day Enduro.  Following his Enduro career Iván turned to the Dakar for his next challenge, where he competed three times and finished what is arguably the toughest motorcycle race in the world, twice.

Honda Offering California-Legal 2022-Model Off-Road Bikes

Honda Offers Robust Lineup of Green Sticker-Compliant Dirt Bikes

CRF450X, CRF-F trail family are off-road legal in California for 2022

TORRANCE, Calif. – Honda continues to offer a number of dirt bike models that meet the California Air Resources Board’s new emissions standards for 2022 model-year and later off-highway vehicles. CARB’s updated rules eliminate new Red Sticker vehicle sales for model year 2022 and onward. Model-year 2022 and later off-highway vehicles that are not Green Sticker compliant will not be allowed to operate in California SVRAs.

Announced last March, the 2022 CRF450X continues to be eligible for a Green Sticker and may be legally ridden year-round at SVRAs. Suitable for trail riding, this popular model performs at such a high level that it is also capable in competition, having amassed 14 victories in the Baja 1000, including the last six editions.

In addition, the entire CRF Trail family—the CRF50F, CRF110F, CRF125F and CRF250F—remains Green Sticker compliant. The road-legal CRF450RL may also be legally used in California SVRAs.

“With CARB’s changing regulations, we’ve heard from a number of customers who are concerned about being able to ride their dirt bikes in California public riding areas, but many Honda models are already Green Sticker compliant,” said Brandon Wilson, Manager of Sports & Experiential at American Honda. “We’ve moved our off-road line in this direction over the past several years, enabling us to offer one of the powersports industry’s more substantial lineups of Green Sticker-compliant models. Equipping off-highway vehicles with the necessary clean-running technology isn’t always easy, but doing so is an important way of protecting the environment and keeping public riding areas beautiful.”

Honda’s lineup of Green Sticker-compliant powersports products isn’t limited to two-wheel models, as many Honda ATVs and side-by-sides can also be used year-round in California’s public off-road areas.

AFT Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines

More history made: Rea claims 13th victory at Assen in curtailed Race 1

TRIUMPH ANNOUNCE THEIR INTENT TO ENTER THE MOTOCROSS AND ENDURO WORLDS

Triumph Motorcycles is excited to announce that development is well underway on a comprehensive range of all-new competition Motocross and Enduro motorcycles. Joining our class-leading and globally renowned motorcycle range, this all-new competition MX and Enduro (Dual Sport) family will bring all of Triumph’s engineering expertise to riders and racers worldwide.

This will be accompanied by a landmark moment for Triumph and the MX and Enduro racing world with an all-new Triumph factory race program and a commitment to top-tier championship racing in both Motocross and Enduro series.

Coming hand-in-hand with this commitment to race and win at the highest level in the sport, Triumph is proud to announce that global Motocross legend Ricky Carmichael and five-times Enduro World Champion Iván Cervantes have joined the Triumph family as active partners in both bike testing and preparation for racing.

An announcement of the timetable for the launch and reveal of the motorcycles, as well as the racing program and the full story on the product advantages the new Triumph MX and Enduro offer, will follow in the coming months.

Nick Bloor: CEO Triumph Motorcycles Ltd:

“Today’s announcement marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Triumph brand,
which everyone at Triumph is incredibly excited to be part of. We are 100% committed
to making a long-lasting impact in this highly competitive and demanding world, with a single-minded ambition to deliver a winning motorcycle line-up for a whole new
generation of Triumph riders”

Ricky Carmichael:

“I am thrilled to announce that I am joining the Triumph family and even more excited to be a part of their new endeavor into the off-road product category.
