World Superbike: American Uribe Joins Outdo TPR Team Pedercini

Outdo TPR Team Pedercini bring American Jayson Uribe to WorldSBK!

Outdo TPR Team Pedercini is pleased to announce that from the next round in Most, Czech Republic, American Jayson Uribe will join them alongside Loris Cresson in WorldSBK.

The twenty-two-year-old has experience in BSB and in the French series where he has achieved many podiums – he was in fact the first American to stand on a BSB Moto3 podium! He has also contested the CEV Moto2 Championship and in recent years has been a prominent rider within MotoAmerica.

Uribe’s signing means that World Superbike has two American riders for the first time since 2014 and underlines Outdo TPR Team Pedercini’s focus of nurturing and developing young up and coming talent.

Lucio Pedercini – Team Principal: “We are delighted to welcome Jayson to the team starting at the Czech Republic round. He is a young rider with a lot of potential, and we are delighted that we have been able to reach an agreement to bring him to the World Superbike Championship with our team. We outlined our plan as a team at the start of the year to work with and develop young riders and signing Jayson is us delivering on that philosophy. It will be a totally new experience for Jayson, and we will do all that we can to help him adapt to the Kawasaki as quickly as we can without adding any pressure to him on his debut.”

Jayson Uribe: “I’m super excited to be given the opportunity to ride with Outdo TPR Team Pedercini at Most. I think it will be a lot of fun to be able to work with such a great and well-established team. I am also excited to reconnect with a few people who are already in the team that I know (the Gimbert family) from 2015, when I raced in the French Superbike series in Superstock. It will be good to get back on a Kawasaki. I don’t have so much experience on the green machine and it is a new track so for sure there will be a big learning curve, especially with the Pirelli tyres which I also don’t know but I am ready for the challenge. Everybody so far has been very supportive and to be finally in the World Superbike paddock, which is somewhere that I have wanted to be for a long time is great. I am doing everything I can to be ready, both physically and mentally and I can’t thank Lucio and Outdo TPR Team Pedercini for the opportunity.”

MotoAmerica: Beach May Fill In For Sick Herrin

JD Beach, a full-time American Flat Track (AFT) racer who previously won a MotoAmerica Superbike race and two MotoAmerica Supersport Championships, is at Brainerd International Raceway and preparing to fill in for Fresh N’ Lean Attack Performance Yamaha’s Josh Herrin.

According to Herrin’s Crew Chief/Team Owner Richard Stanboli, Herrin has a high fever, has tested negative for COVID-19 once, and is currently waiting for the results of a second COVID-19 test.

If Herrin is unable to compete, Beach will ride his YZF-R1 Superbike in his place this weekend in Minnesota.

Beach is riding Herrin’s Yamaha during the MotoAmerica test day today, Thursday, at Brainerd.

Stay tuned for updates.

Canadian Superbike: Round Two Will Feature Full Weekend Of Racing

CSBK Back for Three Days at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, August 13-15

Toronto, ON – The Canadian National Championship motorcycle road racing series, CSBK, will stage round two of their 2021 campaign at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, August 13-15.  The C.T.M.P. round will mark the return to a typical National event schedule for the first time since 2019, pre-Pandemic.

Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is located northeast of Oshawa, ON, about an hour’s drive from Toronto.  The venue is just over 4 kilometers in length and has ten corners.  This track has hosted a wide range of top-level racing events since its opening 60 years ago, and the CSBK Doubleheader event is a staple of summer’s racing schedule.

The August CSBK round at C.T.M.P. will be open to spectators, but tickets must be purchased in advance of the event via the C.T.M.P. web site.  Specific COVID-19 requirements will be in place for CSBK fans, crew, and competitors during the three-day event at C.T.M.P.

The CSBK round at C.T.M.P., usually a double header, will provide three Pro Superbike Feature races in 2021.  Most of the National classes will have two races each – one Saturday afternoon, and the other on Sunday – but the top Pro competitors will have one race on Saturday afternoon and two on Sunday, making for a unique triple header format.

As well, Yuasa Batteries Qualifying for the Pros will take place on Friday afternoon, in two sessions.  The second 15-minute opening will be reserved for the top ten from Q1 and set the grid for all three of the weekend’s Pro Superbike Feature races.

At this year’s Calabogie opener, 2019 champion Ben Young of Clarksburg, ON, earned the Yuasa Batteries Pole Award aboard his Van Dolder’s Home Team BMW.  CSBK rookie Alex Dumas from Desmaures, QC, won both Calabogie races for the Liqui Moly/FAST School Suzuki squad, chased home in both instances by Young and Lynden, ON, based Jordan Szoke on the Canada General Warranty Kawasaki.  In 2020, current CSBK National champion Szoke won both races held at C.T.M.P.

Two races will be held for the middleweight Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike category, where Sebastien Tremblay of Laval, QC, leads the standings for the powerhouse Turcotte Performance Kawasaki squad.  BMW mounted Anthony Bergeron of Racine, QC, heads the Amateur Superbike class, and in Amateur Sport Bike, Yamaha’s Brad MacRae of Perth Road, ON sits atop the standings.

The busy Super Sonic Roadrace School Amateur Lightweight Sport Bike category, always popular at C.T.M.P for tight slip-streaming battles, is headed by Mack Weil of nearby Keene, ON, aboard his Motorcyclecourse.com Kawasaki.

Unofficial motorcycle “Speed Week” will kick off August 6-8, with the Vintage Road Racing Association’s annual classic event.  This includes an Endurance event on Friday afternoon, and practice and racing throughout the weekend.  A limited number of tickets for the V.R.R.A. event will be available through the organizing group’s web site.

British Superbike: Championship Racing At Thruxton This Weekend

Stage set for Thruxton thriller as Bennetts British Superbike title fight hits Hampshire

The Bennetts British Superbike Championship hits Hampshire this weekend (July 30 – August 1), as Britain’s biggest motorsport series returns to Thruxton for the first time since 2019, with VisionTrack Ducati’s Christian Iddon leading the standings.

Four different race winners and a further three riders have so far celebrated podium finishes this year, and Iddon arrives at the fourth round with a slender six-point advantage over his closest rival Jason O’Halloran. The pair have constantly swapped position at the top of the standings throughout the opening nine races of the season.

Iddon regained the lead in the standings after claiming his second win of the year in the final race at Brands Hatch, fending off race one winner Tarran Mackenzie, who elevated himself into third in the overall standings after his podium hat trick in Kent.

O’Halloran took his winning tally to four in the second race at Brands Hatch. The Australian has taken more victories than his rivals so far in 2021, only losing the lead in the standings courtesy of a crash in race two at Knockhill.

Danny Buchan came close to a podium return last weekend after his Knockhill double for SYNETIQ BMW and is just seven points adrift of Mackenzie ahead of the next three races, whilst his teammate Andrew Irwin will be wanting a repeat of 2019 when he claimed his first Bennetts BSB race win at the circuit.

Home hero Tommy Bridewell scored a pair of second places at Brands Hatch, to keep the Oxford Products Racing Ducati team in the top five ahead of their home round this weekend, just ahead of rookie wonder Rory Skinner on the leading FS-3 Racing Kawasaki.

Skinner’s teammate Lee Jackson is seventh with FHO Racing BMW’s Peter Hickman holding the final place in the all-important top eight in the standings ahead of the end of season Showdown.

Just adrift of the top eight ahead of the next three races of the season are Rich Energy OMG Racing BMW’s Bradley Ray and just two points adrift, Josh Brookes.

The defending champion scored his best result of the season last time out in fifth place, but is yet to return to the podium, and will be pushing to change that at the circuit where he was victorious in 2019.

Bennetts British Superbike Championship standings:

Christian Iddon (VisionTrack Ducati) 163

Jason O’Halloran (McAMS Yamaha) 157

Tarran Mackenzie (McAMS Yamaha) 137

Danny Buchan (SYNETIQ BMW Motorrad) 130

Tommy Bridewell (Oxford Products Racing Ducati) 100

Rory Skinner (FS-3 Racing Kawasaki) 86

Lee Jackson (FS-3 Racing Kawasaki) 73

Peter Hickman (FHO Racing BMW) 73

Christian Iddon – VisionTrack Ducati

Championship leader

“I have never been to Thruxton on the Ducati, obviously we hadn’t at Knockhill either, but we had tested there. It will be a bit of an unknown for me, so I am interested to see how we get on.

“My philosophy is the same as always, I do my best every time I go out. it is nice to be leading the championship, I have had that for two consecutive rounds now. Certainly, the target is obviously to be leading the standings at the end of Sunday when we leave Thruxton.

“It’s a hard-fought championship and you never know who you are going to be up against, but at the moment there seems to be a couple of riders who stand out, who have been there every weekend.

“Myself and Jason have probably been the most consistent of those and it has been really, really close between us! There has been a swing in the championship and Jason is really strong and you can never count him out as he showed on Sunday morning after having a really difficult Saturday. I also think that Josh is going to be right up there, he is spectacular at Thruxton as he is at most tracks, and he had a very good end of Brands Hatch – I think we will see a good return to form for him.

“We have a good flow and I want to keep the ball rolling, which is much easier said than done! To maintain this consistency is no easy task in such a tight championship, but I will continue to do the best job I can.”

Take Action To Protect Motorsports During “RPM Act Week” Aug. 2-6

PRI and NCMA Join Forces To Protect Racing in North Carolina

— Partnership results in RPM Act Week from August 2-6 —

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (July 28, 2021) — Performance Racing Industry (PRI) has joined forces with the North Carolina Motorsports Association (NCMA) to protect racing in the Tar Heel State—home to over 50 racetracks and over 30,000 motorsports jobs. As the leading advocacy group for the racing industry, PRI unites motorsports businesses, race teams, racers, and fans to strengthen the industry’s ability to advocate and protect motorsports.

PRI is committed to growing and protecting the racing community from threats, including government overreach. Working with PRI, NCMA is actively fighting against Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) overreach and urging NCMA members and the North Carolina motorsports community to join in RPM Act Week on August 2-6.

“Motorsports has a long history as an American tradition, and yet the industry is at great risk,” said David Miller, NCMA executive director. “Working with PRI and the entire motorsports community, we will be able to make our voices heard and protect the hobby well into the future.”

As part of the EPA’s National Compliance Initiative, aftermarket parts businesses are being targeted and jeopardized. Companies are being fined and risk being shut down. The RPM Act is a bill that will protect the racing industry by clarifying that it is legal to convert street vehicles into dedicated race cars, and it ensures that motorsports parts businesses can legally produce, market, and install racing products.

The bipartisan bill was recently introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), with Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) serving as the lead Republican cosponsor. Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) is serving as the lead sponsor of the RPM Act in the U.S. Senate and is working closely with the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to position the bill for reintroduction and passage in 2021. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) has served as an original cosponsor of the RPM Act and is a strong supporter of the legislation. The RPM Act must be passed into law to ensure that the motorsports-parts industry can continue to sell products that enable racers to compete, and that racers can continue to convert street vehicles into dedicated race cars.

NCMA and PRI are joining forces to make our voices heard in the state. During RPM Act Week, North Carolinians are urged to raise awareness of the bill by posting on social media, linking to articles, and writing legislators to support the bill and pass it into law. Supporters can write to their legislators by visiting www.SaveOurRacecars.com and downloading images for social media by visiting www.PerformanceRacing.com/RPM-Assets.

“This is the time for the race community to band together and make their voices heard,” said Miller. “We must work together to protect our rights and save our race cars.”

MotoAmerica: Championship Heading To Brainerd July 30-August 1

Gagne Going For 10 Straight As MotoAmerica Brings Superbike Racing Back To Brainerd International Raceway

Jake Gagne Rides Into Minnesota With Nine Straight Wins As Superbikes Return
To Minnesota, July 30-August 1.

IRVINE, CA (July 28, 2021) – The last time Brainerd International Raceway hosted an AMA Superbike race, Jake Gagne was a 10-year-old boy with dreams of being a champion. Now, 17 years later, Gagne and the MotoAmerica Series heads to Minnesota for round six with the Californian riding a nine-race win streak in the HONOS Superbike class and looking for more.

If not for a mechanical DNF in the opening race of the season at Road Atlanta, Gagne could be en route to a perfect season as he’s won the nine races since the series opener. And those nine straight wins translate into a 65-point lead over the only other rider with a victory in 2021, Westby Racing’s Mathew Scholtz. After being really challenged for the first time this season at Laguna Seca, Gagne knows it may get a bit tougher as the season rolls through its second half.

“This is my second year on the bike,” Gagne said. “We did good work in the off-season. Again, we haven’t really had to make any big, crazy changes all year on the bike. We bring it off the truck and it’s comfortable. We do little tweaks here and there. As everybody kind of works into their zone and gets their bike – Mat (Scholtz), and Loris (Baz) and Josh (Herrin) and Cam (Petersen) and all those boys – they get that bike where they want it to be. We’re up for some good racing the rest of the year. I know it’s not going to be as easy as it was in the very beginning, that’s for sure. We’ve just got to keep doing our work, having fun and enjoy the racing.”

Brainerd International Raceway has changed since an AMA Superbike race was last held in Minnesota in 2004 so there is hope that an unfamiliar layout may help those trying to derail the Gagne train. Several of the top teams and riders tested the new-to-them layout earlier in the year and they will get a second test day on Thursday, prior to the start of the racing weekend, July 30-August 1.

The battle for second in the title chase is currently being contested between five or six riders and none of them believe the championship is over. Far from it. But first things first and the problem for them remains trying to find a way to beat Gagne.

Although they haven’t beaten Gagne and his Fresh N’ Lean Attack Performance Yamaha YZF-R1 on track yet, the three riders the closest to Gagne in the championship have been consistent with all three finishing all of the 10 races thus far.

Scholtz has a victory and five other podium finishes and he’s 65 points behind and, like the rest, he’s searching for answers in the “How do we beat Gagne?” challenge.

Fifteen points behind Scholtz sits Gagne’s Yamaha teammate Josh Herrin. Herrin has five podium finishes, including two second-place finishes in round four. Much was expected of Herrin at the last round at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, but the 2013 Superbike Champion and Laguna Seca lap record holder only mustered up two fifth-place finishes.

M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Cameron Petersen is having a breakout year in HONOS Superbike with four podiums and the non-defending Stock 1000 Champion is just eight points behind Herrin and fourth overall.

If not for three non-finishes, Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati New York’s Loris Baz would be a lot closer in the title chase than fifth as he’s consistently come the closest to challenging Gagne with four second-place finishes. Two of those seconds came in the last round at Laguna Seca with the Frenchman beaten to the finish line by just a tick over a second in each race. Baz sits 15 points behind Petersen, is fifth in the championship, and is hopeful that a trip to a track that no one in the series has raced on will prove to be beneficial.

Petersen’s M4 ECSTAR Suzuki teammate Bobby Fong is next up in sixth. Fong’s season started well with a second-place finish in the opening race, but that was the last time he was on the podium in 2021. His last four races have been very un-Fong like with eighth, seventh, seventh and sixth-place finishes.

Hector Barbera has shown speed and consistency in his rookie season of MotoAmerica racing on the Scheibe Racing BMW. The Spaniard’s best finish thus far has been a fifth in race two at Ridge Motorsports Park.

Eighth in the HONOS Superbike point standings is Travis Wyman Racing’s Travis Wyman, which translates into him leading the Superbike Cup Championship for racers using their Stock 1000 motorcycles in the HONOS Superbike races.

Fellow Stock 1000 racer Jake Lewis is ninth in the Superbike standings and second in Superbike Cup and he’s just three points behind Travis Wyman.

Kyle Wyman, meanwhile, is 10th in HONOS Superbike on his Panera Bread Ducati Panigale V4 R with the New Yorker set to return from an elbow injury this coming weekend at BIR. Wyman put former MotoAmerica Superbike Champion Toni Elias on the Ducati at the last round at Laguna Seca with the Spaniard finishing eighth and seventh in the two races.

Brainerd Superbike Notes…

The last time Brainerd International Raceway hosted AMA Superbike racing was in June of 2004 with Jake Zemke earning his first-career AMA Superbike victory over Miguel Duhamel and Mat Mladin.

In addition to AMA Superbike racing, BIR also hosted the World Superbike Championship for three years – 1989, 1990 and 1991.

Little known fact: When it first opened in 1968, Brainerd International Raceway was known as Donneybrooke Speedway.

Jake Gagne is rapidly moving up the list of all-time AMA Superbike winners in 2021. Gagne now has nine wins and that ties him with Kevin Schwantz and Aaron Yates for 20th. Gagne has won all his Superbike races in 2021. The all-time win leader is Australian Mat Mladin with 82 wins.

Next up on the AMA Superbike all-time win list of current MotoAmerica Superbike racers is Josh Herrin with eight wins. The only other current AMA Superbike race winners are Bobby Fong and Mathew Scholtz with three wins apiece.

Three-time 500cc World Champion and MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey never lost an AMA Superbike race at Brainerd International Raceway. In 1983, Rainey beat Mike Baldwin and Wes Cooley to take victory on his Kawasaki; in 1986, he beat Fred Merkel and Gary Goodfellow to take the win on a Honda; and in 1987, he topped Kevin Schwantz to take his third AMA Superbike win at BIR, again on a Honda.

We’ll put in the laps and fine-tune the settings on the bike so that we’re dialed in and ready to go. The goal is two podium finishes and hopefully those two results are race wins. “I’m very excited to race at Brainerd this weekend,” Jack said. “I’m looking to be fast straight out of the gate and keep the momentum rolling throughout the weekend. Also, I’ve been to this track before, so I think I’ll have a bit of an advantage over most of the other riders. I’ve been training hard for this round, and a special thank you goes to my riding coach Michael Carder for helping me prepare for this round.”

MotoGP: Crutchlow Filling In For Morbidelli For Three Races

Crutchlow to join PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team for next three races

Cal Crutchlow will stand-in for the recovering Franco Morbidelli at Styrian, Austrian and British GPs

PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team welcomes Cal Crutchlow to the Malaysian squad as stand-in for Franco Morbidelli while the Italian rider continues his recovery from left knee surgery.

Crutchlow will take part in the two Grands Prix in Austria, held at Spielberg, and the BritishGP at Silverstone – his home race.

Crutchlow is no stranger to Yamaha MotoGP machinery, having started his premier class career with the Japanese marque in 2011 – spending three seasons aboard the Yamaha – and is now the official factory test and development rider.

Razlan Razali, Team Principal, PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team

After looking at all the options, it was a collective decision between Yamaha and ourselves to ask Cal Crutchlow to fill in for Franco, while he recovers from surgery. Cal is a credible and experienced rider, who is currently a test rider for Yamaha. As an independent team, this is where we can really step up to help Yamaha. Cal will be able to rack up some good mileage on our M1, which should aid him with his testing and development work for Yamaha. Cal will replace Franco for the next three races and we have no real targets for him in terms of results. We will do all we can to help support him and make him feel comfortable in the team. He’s already familiar with some of the key people in the team, which helps, and I’m sure he’s up for the challenge.

Cal Crutchlow, PETRONAS Yamaha Sepang Racing Team

It’s great to be back riding with Yamaha this year as the official test rider and to be able to step in when needed is good for all parties. I’m looking forward to riding for PETRONAS Yamaha SRT in the three Grands Prix. Obviously it’s not in the best circumstances and I wish Franco a good recovery, I hope he comes back strongly after the knee surgery. I’m sure he will because he’s been riding fantastically over the last two years.

I think it’s difficult to set targets for these three races and it will be more about understanding the bike, as I’ve had limited riding days this year. The good thing will be that I can compare the bikes and I should be able to gather a lot of data for Yamaha. It’s a bit like being thrown in the deep end, as it’s a very competitive MotoGP class, but I’m really looking forward to it and it’s going to be good to be back on the grid.

I’m looking forward to meeting the team in Austria, although there will be some familiar faces for me because Wilco Zeelenberg was my Team Manager in Supersport in 2009 and I actually raced against Johan Stigefelt some years ago, so it’s going to be a pleasure to be back with them.

“I’m very excited to race at Brainerd this weekend,” Jack said. “I’m looking to be fast straight out of the gate and keep the momentum rolling throughout the weekend. Also, I’ve been to this track before, so I think I’ll have a bit of an advantage over most of the other riders.
