Northern Talent Cup: Luciano Wins, Moor 2nd In Race One At Assen
NTC_2021_Classification_Performance_ASN_After_Race11
More, from a press release issued by Dorna:
Luciano lays down a marker with Race 1 win at Assen
The Belgian bounces back with a victory, with Moor and Gurecky completing a podium of usual fast suspects
Saturday, 14 August 2021
Lorenz Luciano (Junior Black Knights Team) was back on the top step in style at the TT Circuit Assen, the Belgian pulling away for a vital win in the standings and another victory in the Netherlands. Rossi Moor (FAIRIUM Next Generation Riders Team) and Jakub Gurecky (JRT Brno Circuit) completed the podium after a close fight for second, all taking vital points as the countdown to the finale continues… and Gurecky sets his sights on the Cup in Race 2.
Moor took the holeshot, but it didn’t take long for Luciano to take over in front. Moor wouldn’t go down without a fight though, and the two had Noel Willemsen (MCA Racing Team), Jacopo Hosciuc (Hos Racing Team) and points leader Gurecky for close company near the front of a huge group fight.
Bit by bit, however, Luciano was able to edge away, leaving Moor to battle it out with Hosciuc, Willemsen, Gurecky and Dustin Schneider (PrüstelGP Junior Team). And bit by bit thereafter, the fight for second became a three-way battle as Moor, Gurecky and Hosciuc pulled away. Schneider also crashed out.
As Luciano crossed the line in some clear air for another impressive win, the Geert Timmer chicane showdown between those on the chase saw Moor head in first and, somehow, the Hungarian defended it. He took second, with Gurecky able to close the door on an attack from Hosciuc to complete the podium, leaving the Romanian fourth.
Willemsen completed the top five ahead of another group led by Stepan Zuda (Motoracing23 Klub V ACR), with Kevin Farkas (Agria Racing Team), Jonas Kocourek (JRT Brno Circuit), Allesauto Racing’s Jordan Bartucca and Tibor Varga (Forty Racing) completing the top ten… although Kas Beekmans (Team KNMV) was within 0.034 in P11.
That’s it from Race 1, with Gurecky 44 points clear at the top. Can he take the Cup in Race 2? 51 points or more of advantage guarantees it…. so tune in for more at 15:20 (GMT +2) on Sunday!
Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup: Race One Results From Austria
More, from a press release issued by Red Bull:
David Alonso dominates great Austrian GP Rookies Race 1
David Alonso, the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup leader, put in another perfect performance to take victory over arch rival David Muñoz and Tatchakorn Buasri. The 15-year-old Colombian replicated his very cool and classy Race 2 victory from the previous weekend at Spielberg, winning by 3.8 seconds.
It had been an incredible early battle with a huge pack of KTMs chasing across the Austrian countryside. Alonso settled himself in and then put the pressure on. Once he got away, the chasing pack could do nothing and for the last handful of laps it came down to a 5 rider chase group with Muñoz and Buasri swapping places with Taiyo Furusato, Dani Holgado and Matteo Bertelle.
On the penultimate lap Holgado bumped Furusato wide leaving Buasri and Muñoz to get away. The Spanish 15-year-old was more controlled and took 2nd ahead of the 20-year-old Thai.
David Alonso faster and faster
“It is so good to get another win. I am surprised because in the second weekend all riders got faster and we knew it was going to be hard.”
“In the first laps, like the other race, I warmed things up, made sure the tyres were good. Then I tried a little bit harder. The first laps I ran alone were not so good but the pace was good so 4 of us got away.”
“I was putting in a lot of effort, I kept pushing and there were some mistakes from the riders behind. That let me go by one second and from that it was much easier. I pushed every lap and was trying to be faster and I managed it.”
“I’m super happy because the feeling with the bike and the pace was incredible. Starting the second weekend like this is very positive.”
“Tomorrow will be even harder so we are prepared.”
David Muñoz only half happy
“The race was very good, it was again a very fast race. My feeling with the bike is very good, better than last weekend. Alonso was very fast today.”
“Tomorrow is another day, a new opportunity. It is very difficult for me, I know that finishing behind Alonso is not good enough, I have to change that, I am only half happy, I have to find something more.”
“This was a step forward from last weekend, I need to find another step tomorrow.”
Tatchakorn Buasri not happy with mistakes
“For me it was a very difficult race, I made a lot of mistakes, first lap to last lap. I made a mistake with maybe 6 laps left then I stayed in position. Then I pushed again and got up to 2nd but made a mistake on the last lap in that fight and finished 3rd but I am so happy.”
“I am happy to be battling at the front but I need to stop making mistakes, tomorrow I want to try to win, I will push again.”
Broadcast
This weekend’s Rookies Cup races can be seen live on www.redbull.tv and on TV stations around the world.
Race 2 is on Sunday at 16:30, the show starts 10 minutes before the race.

More, from a press release issued by American Flat Track:
Mees Gets His Mojo Back in New York Short Track II
Mischler’s high line spells victory; Smith wins first career Main in AFT Production Twins.

WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (August 14, 2021) – Progressive American Flat Track legend Jared Mees (No. 9 Indian Motorcycle/Progressive Insurance FTR750) was at his crushing best on Saturday night, claiming a lopsided victory in the Mission Foods New York Short Track II presented by Mad Max Indian Motorcycle in Weedsport, New York.
With line choice on the slick Weedsport Speedway surface very much in question for the bulk of the field ahead of the Mission SuperTwins presented by S&S Cycle Main Event, Mees rode decisively. The multi-time Grand National Champion went to the high line from the start and made it work to his advantage.
Brandon Robinson (No. 44 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750) quickly followed suit, utilizing that same line to overtake Friday winner Sammy Halbert (No. 69 Coolbeth-Nila Racing Indian FTR750) and move into second position.
Despite his rivals’ momentum, Halbert remained committed to the low line he took to victory the night before and gradually came under fire from above by Robinson’s Mission Roof System’s teammate, Jarod Vanderkooi (No. 20 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750), as well.
Robinson flashed the pace to offer a potential challenge to Mees at mid-distance but fell back to Halbert and Vanderkooi late after encountering brake issues. Increasing the intensity to the maximum, the three met on the race’s final lap, going side-by-side as they entered the final corner. Vanderkooi split his adversaries as they exited Turn 4 to snatch away runner-up honors at the checkered flag, beating Robinson by a meager 0.003-second gap.
A bruised and battered Halbert was relegated to fourth despite coming home just 0.064 seconds back of second place.
Meanwhile, defending Grand National Champion Briar Bauman (No. 1 Indian Motorcycle/Progressive Insurance FTR750) never really found his footing. After coming together with Robinson early, Bauman tried the low, middle, and high lines to no avail. He was ultimately tracked down and passed by JD Beach (No. 95 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT), who took the final spot in the top five in the process.
The victorious Mees said, “I always have a lot of passion and heart for what I do but getting a win is always a good thing. I said it earlier, going to win a Mile it’s like, ‘Oh yeah, he should,’ because I’ve got a really good package for a Mile, and I’m older and really experienced. I always had really great success on these slippery, small car tracks, but the last couple years, I kind of lost touch with that and Briar has been killing us with that. So to come out here and actually win a clay Short Track, it feels really phenomenal to get that mojo back again.”
Despite Mees earning his third win of ‘21 and Bauman taking his worst result of the season in sixth, Bauman continues to lead the Mission SuperTwins points standings by a healthy 22-point margin over Mees (197-175). Robinson is third at 168.
AFT Singles
Morgen Mischler (No. 13 Mission Roof Systems KTM 450 SX-F) earned his second-career AFT Singles victory — his first since 2018 — and did so in about the most Morgen Mischler-esque manner imaginable.
Starting from Row 3, Mischler ignored the deep pack of riders scraping down low and instead railed his way around the extreme high line. In just a matter of a couple short laps, Mischler was in the lead and leaving the field in his wake en route to the checkered flag.
The win came only after Mischler had stacked up an incredible 16 podiums (including six this season) between victories.
After taking the cathartic triumph, he said, “I nailed the start and was sitting pretty good. I came out of Turn 4 and was already doing pretty well. Then it was just a matter of how high can we run it? After one or two laps, it was pretty incredible to come through the pack from the third row. It’s great. It was a long three years, but it feels so great to be up here.”
Once Mischler made it clear the high line was the fast line, several riders reconsidered their tactics. One of those riders was Brandon Kitchen (No. 105 Husqvarna Motorcycles/Vance & Hines Husqvarna FC450), who made a late push to overhaul the likes of Dallas Daniels (No. 1 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F), Trent Lowe (No. 48 WBR/Suzuki Motor of America RM-Z450), and Tanner Dean (No. 38 1st Impressions Race Team Honda CRF450R) to finish as the race’s runner-up and secure his first podium of 2021.
Despite not getting a great start and never settling into a comfortable line, defending champ Daniels still managed to fight his way onto the box. Combined with last night’s victory, his Saturday third not only saw him get his title campaign back on track, but reclaim the championship lead.
Lowe finished fourth, while pre-race title leader Max Whale (No. 18 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 450 SX-FFE) minimized the damage by slipping past early leader Dean at the flag to round out the top five.
As a result, Daniels now leads Whale by a narrow two-point margin (178-176).
AFT Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines
It was several years in the making, but Cameron Smith (No. 44 Fredericktown Yamaha/Richie Reynolds Racing MT-07) is officially a Progressive American Flat Track Main Event winner.
Smith first showed the potential to run up front in AFT Singles competition as far back as the 2016 season, but he didn’t truly establish himself as a threat to claim the checkered flag until this season. Following a pair of ‘21 runner-ups — including last night’s near miss — Smith at last broke through with a dominant victory.
Holeshot artist Cory Texter (No. 65 G&G Racing/Yamaha Racing Yamaha MT-07) didn’t get his usual flier of a start, which altered the completion of the race completely. With Texter running fourth early, Smith slashed past Dalton Gauthier (No. 79 D&D Cycles/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson XG750R) and then tracked down leader Dan Bromley (No. 62 Memphis Shades/Vinson Construction Yamaha MT-07).
Smith made his move just past half-distance and did so in style; he powered around the outside of Bromley and then brushed back his opponent’s attempted counter maneuver to lock down first position. Once in front, he dropped the field en route to a 1.270-second margin of victory.
“Oh my gosh, we’re so excited to come out here and get a win finally,” Smith said. “After getting second two times, I think we were ready. We knew we could do it and we showed it tonight. And big thanks to (my crew), they made me feel like I was sailing the ship on dry land, I was so smooth out there.”
Despite being unable to stand and riding in intense pain after injuring his left ankle last night, Gauthier not only soldiered on, he worked past Bromley to improve upon his Friday third with a runner-up result on Saturday.
Unfortunately for Bromley, his slide down the order didn’t end until after the race’s final corner. Texter pulled off a last-gasp move to bump Bromley off the podium altogether after he looked to be in good shape to score a first win of ‘21 over the Main’s opening half.
Ryan Varnes (No. 68 RVR/Rausch Fuel Kawasaki Ninja 650) held off Ben Lowe (No. 25 Mission Roof Systems Harley-Davidson XG750R) to complete the top five. Lowe’s sixth still came as an impressive performance considering he was forced to start from the back of the pack, burning his provisional start after crashing out of contention in his Semi.

Daniels Reclaims Points Lead at New York Short Track II
Estenson Racing’s Dallas Daniels headlined a second consecutive successful Progressive American Flat Track outing for the team at last night’s New York Short Track II, returning to the podium and reclaiming the AFT Singles championship lead in the process. The Mission SuperTwins duo of JD Beach and Kolby Carlile built upon their Friday efforts to secure respective fifth- and eighth-place results. Daniels’ Singles compatriot, Mikey Rush, collected some valuable championship points in the slippery track conditions at the Weedsport Speedway.
While Daniels’ Friday night victory will go down as the highlight of the weekend, his third-place finish last night was no less critical to his greater efforts. The prodigious pilot again struggled with his start and never locked in on a comfortable line, but he somehow still willed his way near the front of the field. Once there, the teenager again demonstrated his late-race acumen by executing a late-race move to land on the podium in third despite several riders jockeying for the position on the race’s final lap. As a result, Daniels moved back to the front of the tight AFT Singles title fight, owning a narrow two-point margin.
Rush’s Saturday struggles closely resembled those he endured on the slick track the night before; the Californian again finished his Semi in ninth, one spot out of an automatic qualifying position. He utilized his provisional start and worked his way up from last to 13th. The precious points earned on a difficult evening saw him move up one position to fourth in the ‘21 class championship standings.
Meanwhile, Beach’s Friday improvements carried over into Saturday as hoped. After much searching, he finally found his groove aboard the #95 Yamaha MT-07 DT at mid-distance. Using that line to pick his way up the field, he finally dispatched the reigning Mission SuperTwins Champion with two laps remaining to claim the final spot in the top five.
Teammate Carlile had a tough start to the day with a technical issue in the first qualifying session, which put him at the back of the grid. He and the team kept working, and he gained ground as well as the premier-class Main Event evolved. The New Yorker opened the race in 10th and worked his way forward to an eventual eighth-place result.
A fully confident Estenson Racing squad will now carry huge hopes and equally high expectations as they travel to next weekend’s Peoria TT at the iconic Peoria Motorcycle Club in Daniels’ home state of Illinois.
Tommy Hayden – Estenson Racing Team Manager
“We had a pretty good night here at the second round at Weedsport in both classes. It was good to see Dallas back up his strong finish from yesterday with another podium. That was definitely good for his championship hopes; to leave here leading in the points is a big turnaround and a big positive on the day. Mikey made some progress today but still wasn’t where we know he can be. We learned some stuff, and he made improvements on a track he wasn’t comfortable on, but some of the upcoming tracks are going to suit him better.
“On the Twins side, both guys were consistently competitive throughout the day. In the Main Event, they battled back from not-so-great starts to move toward the front. JD ended up fifth and Kolby eighth — that’s definitely one of our stronger performances on an oval. This is the type of track that in the past we haven’t done so well at. So to come out of here with two pretty solid results and not too far behind the leaders is a positive. We hope to carry this momentum through the rest of the year.”
Dallas Daniels – Estenson Racing AFT Singles
“It was a bit of a challenging night. The day started off well. We had a good qualifying and won our Semi and had the second pick for the Main Event, so I was feeling pretty confident, but the track was a little different than it was last night. It was a little bit slicker, and we were going lower and lower, chasing the moisture. That kind of went away in the Main Event. I got a pretty bad start in the Main, and that didn’t help me at all. I got off about fourth or fifth and was finally able to bring myself up to third and missed out on second by about a wheel at the finish line.
“It’s definitely a little bit disappointing because I wanted to win both of them, but it was a really good weekend and very important for the championship. We were 15 points down coming in, and now we’re two points up. A big thanks to the whole Estenson Racing team. Those guys bust their butts and continue to believe in me. Like I said before, we were kind of in a slump, and we persevered and had a great weekend. What better weekend to have than one like this right before the Peoria TT? That’s my favorite track, so I’m looking to go there and have some fun.”
JD Beach – Estenson Racing Mission SuperTwins
“The race was crazy today! All-day long everyone was running around the bottom of the track, and we really didn’t think we would get off of there. Then in the 450 race, Morgen (Mischler) went straight to the top and was rolling really well. So before our Main, you could see all the SuperTwins riders checking the track out to decide where to go. My game plan was to go straight to the bottom and let them all go up top. Well, that went right out the window when the green light went, and I went to the top. I kept searching between the top and the bottom of the track, trying to decide where I wanted to run. Once I committed to the bottom and got in a good groove, I started moving forward. I had no idea what place I was in but knew I was closing in on Briar (Bauman) and wanted to get by him. At the end of the race, I found out we got fifth, and I was over the moon. We came into this weekend thinking it wasn’t going to be good because of how slick this track is, but we had a great one in the end. A big thanks to my crew who worked so hard all weekend.”
Kolby Carlile – Estenson Racing Mission SuperTwins
“I started the day off not feeling super comfortable on the bike. It’s kind of the feeling I had since the Semi yesterday, and we didn’t really know which direction to go. We all came together and really came up with a good plan. We made one decision, and it worked out well, and we kept going that way. Sadly, I missed the first qualifying session, which was the faster one, and that put me in the last qualifying position for the rest of the night. In the Semi, I felt really good. I had the same pace as everyone else, but I just wasn’t able to make my way up through the field. When it came time for the Main, I got a good start and found a line pretty quickly. I finished in eighth place, but that was only seven seconds behind the winner, and it felt like a really good, competitive eighth-place finish, and I’m super happy with it.”
Mikey Rush – Estenson Racing AFT Singles
“It was a tough weekend. The track was super slick, and I never really found my comfort zone. I used my provisional to get into the Main. We kept working, and I was able to fight my way from the back to 13th. It wasn’t the weekend I was hoping for, but we were able to salvage some points. I’m looking forward to moving on to Peoria.”

O’Halloran maintains winning momentum at Donington Park
Jason O’Halloran continued his winning streak in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship by claiming victory in the opening BikeSocial Race at Donington Park, following an intense battle in the opening race of the weekend.
O’Halloran launched into the lead from the pole position, but Glenn Irwin soon grabbed the advantage to put the Honda ahead. Meanwhile though Tarran Mackenzie had moved into second place as championship leader O’Halloran was initially pushed back down the order.
By the third lap, Christian Iddon had carved his way through from fourth to become the third different race leader in as many laps, before Glenn Irwin then regained the position a lap later.
The BMW Safety Car was deployed when Joey Thompson crashed out at Coppice on the fifth lap, with the pack forming up for the restart with Glenn Irwin leading Iddon, O’Halloran, Mackenzie, Andrew Irwin and Ryan Vickers.
Glenn Irwin defended his position hard, holding off the chasing pack as O’Halloran moved up the order and was holding second place by the halfway point of the race.
Two laps later and O’Halloran made a move for the lead into Redgate and started to try and break the pack. The McAMS Yamaha rider edged out a 1.866s advantage at the chequered flag over the final seven laps.
The battle for the final podium positions continued to rage right until the finish line as Mackenzie had fought back into second place, narrowly ahead of Glenn Irwin and Iddon.
However, the McAMS Yamaha rider was demoted to third on the final lap when his Honda Racing rival made a final attempt for second on the brakes at Roberts for the last time and had the edge to the line with Iddon in fourth.
Tommy Bridewell was fifth for the Oxford Products Racing Ducati team after Ryan Vickers was issued a two-second time penalty for a course cut on the RAF Regular & Reserve Kawasaki, pushing him to sixth just ahead of Andrew Irwin.
Lee Jackson finished eighth to maintain the final position in the top eight in the standings currently, with Peter Hickman and Bradley Ray completing the top ten. It was another difficult race for defending champion Josh Brookes; he ended the race in 18th position.
The victory in the opening race means that O’Halloran has put himself in contention for the £50,000 prize in the Milwaukee Summer Grand Slam, if he can complete six consecutive race wins across this weekend at Donington Park and the next event at Cadwell Park.
However, tomorrow his Bennetts BSB rivals could also put themselves in with a chance, as five victories across the six races nets a £25,000 prize and four wins claims £10,000.

Bike Social Race 1 winner
“The start of the race was actually quite difficult as I think all the boys know now they’ve got to get in front of me to try and slow me down a little bit!
“Once I get to the front I seem to be able to do my own thing and I’ve got really good pace, so I know I just need to get to the front.
“I was giving it as good as I was getting it, especially at the start as it was pretty frantic! I wasn’t really too keen on using the kerbs in the first part of the race, which is why I kept getting passed into turn one because I wasn’t committing to the last chicane.
“Once I figured out what I could do I got to the front, got my head down and once I saw plus one on the board, I just controlled the gap.
“I had a really strong pace so I am looking forward to the longer races tomorrow as I think it will suit us even more. Just another five races to go to try to win the Milwaukee money! It was definitely nice to start off with a win and keep myself in the mix for it.”

Fourth For Iddon At Donington Park
The opening race at round five of the 2021 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Donington Park today proved to be a challenging affair for the VisionTrack Ducati team and although Christian Iddon took a solid fourth place, team mate Josh Brookes crossed the line out of the points in 18th.
Both of Paul Bird’s riders had enjoyed productive first days on the factory-supported VisionTrack Ducati Panigale V4RR at the Leicestershire circuit with the fourth and fifth fastest times putting them straight into today’s second Superpicks session, but that qualifying session proved more challenging with Iddon and Brookes slipping back to eighth and 15th respectively.
Conditions changed considerably before the race as light rain steadily fell but the track had dried sufficiently for the race to be declared dry and full slicks were the order of the day.
A good start for Christian saw him move up to fourth on the opening lap and two laps later, he took the lead for the first time. From there on in, it was a major battle and with the front three riders edging away, the Tyneside-based rider had to settle for fourth at the flag.
Brookes’ race was compromised by a technical issue, and he wasn’t able to reproduce the pace he’d shown yesterday. Battling against the problem, he had to ride round the issue and, after one off-track excursion, crossed the line in 18th place.
Christian Iddon: “I had a reasonable race, but it was a strange start as some people were being quite steady although conditions were a lot better and drier than they thought. That allowed me to come through quite quickly but after that it was a real battle. Everyone has strong pace around this circuit, but I got caught up a bit with Glenn Irwin, rather than staying ahead of him, and that allowed a gap to open up. Fourth’s disappointing as we want the podium credits and when you don’t finish on the box, it’s hard to be content. We’ll make improvements for tomorrow’s races and look to get into a good rhythm.”
Josh Brookes: “We showed more potential at the beginning of the weekend but I’m not sure it was a real indicator of performance as I’m still struggling with the 2021 bike. I’ve accepted I’m not going to get my 2020 bike back and need to persevere as best I can but, unfortunately, I had an issue with the engine braking during the race. That affected my entry into every corner, but I learned how to ride with the issue although too much time was lost so we’ll try again tomorrow.”
Johnny Mowatt, Team Co-ordinator: “It was a solid result for Christian although we’re obviously slightly disappointed not to have finished on the podium. He got duffed up a little bit and didn’t quite have the pace of the front three. The weekend started strongly for Josh and the qualifying position didn’t reflect his performance, but such is the nature of the course, losing a couple of tenths can be a massive difference. He had an issue in the race which compromised his pace, so we’ll look at all the data to see what’s happened and go again tomorrow.”
Tomorrow’s races are scheduled to take place at 13.00 and 16.30 respectively.

2-2 for Honda Racing UK at Donington Park
Donington Park’s National Circuit has proved once again to be a happy hunting ground for the Honda Racing UK team, as Glenn Irwin and Tom Neave both finished on the podium in today’s opening Bennetts British Superbike and Pirelli National Superstock Championship races in second place respectively, aboard the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP.
Having placed third overall in combined times in yesterday’s free practice sessions, Tom was full of confidence heading into today’s Superstock Qualifying at the Leicestershire circuit. Showing the potential of the Fireblade, Tom stormed ahead early in the session to the top of the times, where he remained to claim his first pole position of the year.
A dramatic change in weather conditions saw the Superstock race declared wet and reduced to 15 laps. Getting caught up off the line, Tom dropped down to eighth place on the opening lap. However finding confidence in the wet conditions and with a dry line appearing, he started to make his way back through the pack. Picking off his rivals and posting consistent lap times, by lap 11 Tom had moved into podium contention in second place and was hot on Luke Mossey’s heels for the top spot. Passing Luke, Tom crossed the line to take the chequered flag, however the Honda-man was demoted to second place after he had passed Mossey who ran wide, under yellow flag conditions. Tom is now sitting sixth in the standings with 88 points, ahead of tomorrow’s Race 2.
Celebrations continued for the first Superbike race, with Glenn placing second after a solid ride across the 20 laps. Qualifying on the front row in third place, he had a superb start off the line jumping straight into the lead. Leading the way for the majority of the race he was eventually caught by Yamaha’s duo Jason O’Halloran and Tarran Mackenzie, and dropped to third. Keeping calm and staying close to Taz, Glenn made his move to take second place where he crossed the line to take his second podium of the 2021 season.
Glenn’s teammates Ryo Mizuno and Takumi Takahashi are getting to grips with the 1.98-mile circuit and improving their times throughout each session. During the race the teammates enjoyed a battle with each other, with Ryo eventually pipping Takumi to the post finishing 19th with Takumi 21st.
The team will be back in action tomorrow (Sunday 15 August) for two more Superbike races and the final Superstock race of the weekend.
#2 Glenn Irwin
Today was a good day coming away with a podium and in particular a second, after the safety car we had some chatter issues once the tyre temperature had dropped, but I did my best to adapt around that. It was great to battle with Mackenzie and I felt maybe with a few more laps I could have taken the fight to Jason [O’Halloran], but we’ll have to wait until tomorrow for that. I’m pleased to have got second, a huge thanks to the Honda team we’ve worked hard to get me in the right place this weekend. We know the Fireblade is strong at Donington, as we showed last year, but we’re still trying to find something ‘perfect’, but as Uncle Tim said, ‘perfect doesn’t exist’, so that helped my outlook, helped me understand and to accept things and adapt, which I think we managed in qualifying. We deserved that podium today and I’m looking forward to two more races tomorrow.
#88 Ryo Mizuno
I was able to do my best in today’s race. I tried to improve my pace in each session from all free practice sessions to today’s race, but after the safety car I couldn’t increase my pace and got separated from the group in front. I was able to keep a good pace at the end of the race, so I will use warm up tomorrow to find my pace and aim to move up further in the two races.
#13 Takumi Takahashi
In today’s race I didn’t get a good speed, like I was hoping I had at Thruxton in Race 1. I managed to make up some places, but I still don’t completely understand this track. I need to improve to get good speed and rhythm just after start. I’ll try to push more tomorrow.
#68 Tom Neave
I feel like I’ve got confidence back after the podium at Thruxton and feel I’m finally back to where I need to be, picking up from where we left off last year. I knew we could be strong here; this is my happy hunting ground. We started from pole and the result shows we can comfortably win the race come rain or shine. I’m so gutted to have been demoted to second place, I worked so hard for the win after dropping down to eighth at the start. We start tomorrow again from pole after I set the fastest lap, I know I’m on good form and have some fire back in my belly and the fact I didn’t win today, just makes me ever more hungry for tomorrow’s race.
More, from a press release issued by Dynavolt Triumph:
Brandon Paasch on the box at Donington Park

Dynavolt Triumph’s Brandon Paasch achieved his aim of a podium finish in today’s 20-lap Quattro Group British Supersport Championship sprint race at Donington Park.
The great British weather struck again when, prior to the race, rain started to fall at the Leicestershire circuit but the track fully dried for the start and Paasch was able to fight for his first podium in the supersport category with a third place.
Brandon Paasch: “Overall a pretty good race one here at Donington Park, got my first podium in the supersport class. Pretty happy with that but right now I think it’s important to focus, get back to work and try to improve for tomorrow, try to keep going forward. The goal is to win races and we’re on our way so I’m happy with the progress, let’s keep working.”
Teammate Kyle Smith’s day didn’t go quite so well with a huge crash in qualifying. Smith was unhurt but his Dynavolt Triumph was destroyed in the incident. Thankfully he had posted a fast lap before the crash and started the sprint race in fifth on the second row of the grid. Despite the tremendous efforts of the pit crew in rebuilding the bike, Smith experienced clutch issues and faded but still found great race pace to cross the line in eighth position and bag eight points, holding on to third in the championship standings.
Kyle Smith: “Little bit of a difficult race today. We had a big crash in qualifying this morning, the team did a fantastic job getting it up and running for the race but we ended up having no clutch, struggling to go down the gear box braking. So I managed to finish the race and get some points which is good but it’s not where we want to be. Hopefully we can get that fixed for tomorrow and we’ll have the pace to be running up front.”
Dynavolt Triumph Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “Superb race for Brandon, a really good job by him. I’m pleased for him and Simon and George his technicians. We always win as a team but it’s nice for both sides of the garage to have success so congrats for that, a great job.”
“For Kyle I can’t say enough about the team, both sides of the garage helped to repair the huge damage to that bike. We built a brand-new bike, new frame, new swing arm, new everything in just over three hours so fair play. Then Kyle had clutch slip in the race. When you have a big crash like that, these things can happen. We’ll investigate that and put it right for tomorrow. He struggled to down shift but he learnt to blip the throttle, which he couldn’t do before so there’s always positives! When he worked that out he had the pace in the race the same as the leaders so I’m sure he’ll be right up there fighting for the win tomorrow and we’ll have two bikes up there. Looking forward to it.”
