American Flat Track: Even More From The Charlotte Half-Mile (Updated)

Daniels Takes Back-to-Back AFT Singles Titles at the Charlotte Half-Mile

Estenson Racing’s Dallas Daniels sealed the deal on his second consecutive AFT Singles title with a sixth-place finish at Saturday night’s Progressive American Flat Track season finale in Charlotte, North Carolina. JD Beach ended his Mission SuperTwins season on a high note by returning to the podium with a third-place finish. Unfortunately, Mikey Rush’s night ended early with a crash on the warmup lap of the AFT Singles Semi. Kolby Carlile had a big crash in the opening laps of the Mission SuperTwins Main and was unable to finish.

The season finale at the Charlotte Motor Speedway was delayed a day with rain on Friday, so it was an abbreviated schedule with only two qualifying sessions. After finishing fifth in his Semi, Daniels lined up on the third row in 10th. The defending AFT Singles Champion needed to finish 13th or better if his rival won. With the big picture in mind, he rode a smart race in the challenging track conditions and was able to advance to sixth, where he would ultimately finish to clinch the crown. In addition to holding on to his number-one plate, Daniels put his name in the record books as the only rider to earn back-to-back titles in the highly competitive AFT Singles Championship. The Illinois rider also had a solid debut in the Production Twins class this season, finishing on the podium at all four rounds entered and taking three race wins.

Beach had a solid start to the evening program, finishing fourth in his Mission SuperTwins Semi to line up on the second row of the grid for the Main Event. It was a complete restart after his teammate Carlile went down early in the race, and Beach was fifth after the first lap and was maintaining that position. Before the halfway mark, the red flag was brought out again after a big crash involving two riders up front. The Owensboro rider lined up third for the staggered restart and was right on the heels of the race leader. Beach had a look at multiple passing opportunities and moved to strike on the final lap of the race. With two laps to go, it turned into a three-rider fight to the finish and he ultimately crossed the line third. He ended the season with a top-five finish in the point standings, scoring a pair of wins and a total of four podiums.

The AFT Singles team went out in the first Semi race of the evening, but unfortunately, Rush crashed on the warmup lap and broke his leg. On the SuperTwins side of the tent, Carlile had a big crash early in the Main Event and incurred a similar injury to his teammate. Both riders were sent to a local area hospital and are being evaluated, and an update will come at a later date.

Tommy Hayden – Estenson Racing Team Manager

“It was a bittersweet night here in Charlotte. The highlight of the night was Dallas wrapping up his second 450 singles championship. That’s quite an accomplishment, and I’m really proud of him and the entire team for everything they put into that. It wasn’t easy this year. We had some obstacles to overcome, but everyone stuck together, and we were able to pull it off. So, that feels really good.

“JD had a really good night in the SuperTwins class. After the red flag, he got a good start and battled for the lead the entire race. In the end, he just barely came up short with third place, but it was a solid podium to wrap up the season. I think we made some good progress on the SuperTwin this year, and we’re happy to see that.

“Unfortunately, Mikey and Kolby had some bad luck tonight. Both of them ended up crashing and having a fairly similar injury, breaking their lower left legs. They are still being evaluated to know the extent of the injuries, but either way, it looks like they’re both going to require surgery and will need a little time to recover. I feel horrible for them to have their seasons end like that. We’re definitely wishing them a speedy recovery and I’m sure they’ll be back fighting up front in no time.”

“It’s an amazing feeling to win back-to-back championships in the Singles class. Today was nerve-racking, though. The track was pretty much everything but what I wanted it to be. It was pretty treacherous, and we had spots that you couldn’t tell were slick spots and some tacky spots that would catch your foot. In practice, I felt decent, but I didn’t qualify all that well. As we went out for our Semi, my teammate, Mikey, spun around in the first corner on the warmup lap, and that kind of freaked me out a little bit.

“Last year, I wrapped my championship up three rounds early, so I’ve never been in the position where I had to ride conservatively. It was definitely a little weird for me, and I wasn’t a huge fan of it because I’m better when I’m riding all out for a win. I felt like I had the speed to win the Main Event tonight, but I had to look at the big picture. It was definitely tough, but I had a few moments in the Semi and the Main Event, so I just needed to focus on whatever I needed to do to seal the deal since a race win didn’t matter. I was kind of paying attention to where I was at and we were able to get the job done in the end. All in all, it was an awesome night. I have to give a big thanks to the whole Estenson Racing team for all of their hard work and sticking behind me.”

“I’m glad that we got the race in, with all of the rain and stuff. With the abbreviated schedule, I was nervous because usually, we need as much time as possible before the Main Event to get the bike setup, but it all went really well. In the Main, I was starting eighth, so I was hoping to get maybe a top five. Once we got going, I felt really good, and the bike was working great. We had a few red flags, and each time I just felt better and better. I was working with Jared (Mees) on the inside and outside and trying to figure out a good spot to pass him. I had a really good idea going into the last lap and then two laps to go, Davis (Fisher) came by me and used my idea. So then I had to try and pass two guys and I just couldn’t get it done. To end the year on the box is awesome. The team worked really hard, so it feels good going into the off-season with another podium.”

RED BULL KTM’S MAX WHALE VICTORIOUS AT THE CHARLOTTE HALF-MILE SEASON FINALE

Round 17 – American Flat Track Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The final round of the 2021 American Flat Track Championship took place at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday with a dramatic conclusion to the hotly contested AFT Singles Championship battle. Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Max Whale secured the Main Event win, missing the title by a mere eight points after 17 rounds of bar-to-bar racing. Teammate Shayna Texter-Bauman finished seventh on the night to end the season with eighth overall in the AFT Singles championship standings.

Whale put himself into a favorable spot after qualifying fourth, which allowed him to line up in the first row for the semi. He charged to a third-place transfer into the Main Event, giving him another front row start position. He was in third on the first lap but fell to fourth for a few laps. He then regained positions and moved into second on Lap 7, soon engaging in battle with Kody Kopp and eventually taking the lead on Lap 10. The duo swapped positions a couple times more before a crash late in the race by KTM-mounted Morgen Mischler resulted in a red flag. Whale led from the restart to the checkered flag, a total of 12 laps, to capture the last win of the season.

It was an incredibly hard-fought season for Whale, who contested the AFT Singles Championship down to the final laps of 2021. The Aussie had a decent start to the season but things began to turn around for him four rounds in when he raced his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION to the center of the podium for the first time at the Chicago Half-Mile. He went on to secure five total Main Event wins, along with an additional four podium finishes throughout the season but it wasn’t without its trials. Finishing second overall for the second straight season, Whale has his sights set on a championship bid in 2022 as he gears up to spend the next two seasons with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing squad.

Whale: “It was a solid season finale, I’m super happy with how the team worked all day and I ended up grabbing the win. Overall, it was an awesome season for myself and the team, it was our first year together and we learned a lot, ee progressed all year and we never stopped improving, which was the best part. The next year is going to be great for us, I know it for a fact. I ended up second in the championship but it kind of bums me out because we definitely had a great shot at winning the title this year. We’ll come out next year swinging and see what we can do – hopefully grabbing the No. 1 plate.”

Texter-Bauman had a strong finish to the 2021 season in Charlotte as she placed her KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION inside the top-10 with a seventh-place result at the finale. Known for being a force at the Half-Mile tracks, Shayna came into the weekend with great confidence and she raced her way to a seventh-place transfer in the semi. Working through a challenging red flag restart, Shayna fought hard in the Main Event to ultimately come away with another seventh in the final Main Event of the season.

Still holding onto the title as all-time winningest AFT Singles racer in series history, Shayna added another pair of sweet victories this season with an impressive double-header victory at the season opener in Florida. Coming on strong at the end of the season, Shayna added two additional podium finishes at the Sacramento double-header, along with four top-10s, to ultimately finish eighth in the AFT Singles Championship.

Texter-Bauman: “We struggled a little bit to really get going all day but we made a last-minute change before the Main Event with the fork settings and it made a world of difference. In the Main Event, we came from pretty far back to get up to sixth but there was a red flag restart and I was struggling to see in the light, so I lost a spot off the restart. I was able to bring it home in the final two minutes to hold seventh place, so I felt really strong. Overall, I’m really happy to end the season the way we did and I’m really happy with the motorcycle. I think we made big gains from Port Royal Half-Mile on, and we got our motorcycle back up on the podium twice at the Sacramento Mile and finished strong at Charlotte. I’d like to give a special thanks to KTM, along with George and Evan at Solid Performance WP Suspension, for helping us find a setting that I believe we were missing for the last year and a half. Of course, thanks to our Team Manager, Chris Fillmore, and my mechanic, Justin, for everything. I really appreciate it.”

Chris Fillmore, Team Manager: “The title chase for us came down to the final round, and if things would have gone a little differently at Springfield Short Track,  we could have won the championship last night, so that’s a little bit tough to swallow. Overall, I am proud of our team and riders – having seven wins on the season is something to be happy and proud about. Ups and downs will help us grow as a team, so I’m confident and looking forward to coming back stronger than ever next year.”

INDIAN MOTORCYCLE RACING SECURES FIFTH CONSECUTIVE AMERICAN FLAT TRACK MANUFACTURER’S CHAMPIONSHIP

Indian Motorcycle Wrecking Crew Rider Jared Mees Wins Seventh Career Grand National Championship; Indian Motorcycle Privateer Davis Fisher Wins First Career SuperTwins Event at Charlotte Half-Mile

Minneapolis, MN. (October 11, 2021) – Indian Motorcycle Racing, presented by Progressive Motorcycle Insurance, earned its fifth consecutive American Flat Track (AFT) Manufacturer’s Championship, while its Wrecking Crew factory rider, Jared Mees, secured his seventh career Grand National Championship following the conclusion of the 2021 AFT season. In addition, Indian Motorcycle privateer Davis Fisher finished the 2021 season by reaching the top of the Charlotte Half-Mile podium – earning his first career AFT SuperTwins victory.

Entering the 2021 AFT SuperTwins finale, Mees lead fellow Indian Motorcycle Wrecking Crew rider, and two-time defending champion, Briar Bauman by a mere four points. Following a complete red flag restart in the Main, it was Bauman who established himself with the early lead, while Mees ran comfortably in second. Though after hitting a wet section on the track, Bauman’s bike clipped a hay bale and sent him over his bars. With nowhere to go, Indian Motorcycle privateer Sammy Halbert crashed into Bauman’s bike and went flying into the air. Halbert was taken to a nearby hospital via ambulance, while Bauman joined the restart on his back-up bike, but eventually decided he was physically unable to compete and pulled out of the race – ultimately crowning Mees as the 2021 SuperTwins champion.

“First and foremost, we wish Sammy and Briar a speedy recovery. It’s an unfortunate way to end the season, but we know these guys are warriors and will be back stronger than ever,” said Gary Gray, Vice President Racing, Service & Technology. “We also want send a huge congratulations to Davis Fisher and his team, as they put in incredible work and truly deserve this victory. We also cannot say enough about Jared Mees – a true competitor in every sense of the word. Congrats on number seven, Jared.”

The 2021 championship could perhaps be Mees’ finest performance, as he battled through adversity following mid-season knee surgery. Costing him critical points in the season standings, Mees continued to train hard and ended the season by winning five of the last seven races. With 60 career wins, seven championships, and multiple records, Mees is now just two championships from reach his career goal to meet Scottie Parker’s record of nine championships.

JOHNNY LEWIS FOURTH, BTR FLAT TRACK WRAPS UP AT CHARLOTTE HALF MILE

Milwaukee, WI – The final round of the American Flat Track Championship was more than a season ender for Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield. For Johnny Lewis, it was a milestone in a year of growth, development, and historic race results for Royal Enfield in what was a landmark season for the Twins FT race machine. Lewis sailed to another top-five finish at the Charlotte Half Mile at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina, taking fourth in the Production Twins main event.

Lewis’ sixth top-five finish of the season is a testament to not only his race craft, but to the steady progress he and the Moto Anatomy X team have made with the Twins FT. “It’s crazy to think what we have accomplished in this last year–a prestigious win at the Lima Half Mile and six top-five finishes overall,” said Lewis. “To end the season with a fourth at Charlotte Motor Speedway showed that we have been able to develop the Royal Enfield Twins FT into a competitive production-based race bike.”

“Since day one we’ve had so many people step up in so many ways. I don’t like hearing no, or I can’t. If you can’t, I will. But in my group of people we didn’t ever say we can’t. We pushed until the end. We had amazing support throughout the season from Lloyd Brothers Motorsports, Woody Kyle, Wes Hanes and S&S Cycle. We were able to develop each week thanks to Kent Ford, Lowery Racing, Web Cam, Cometic Gaskets, Scott Saunders and Wiseco. I can’t thank them all enough.”

Royal Enfield BUILD. TRAIN. RACE.

The Charlotte Half Mile was slated to be the fourth and final round of the Royal Enfield BUILD. TRAIN. RACE (BTR). Mother Nature had other ideas, however, and rainy weather forced race promoters to postpone Friday’s schedule to Saturday. The BTR women had other commitments, and unfortunately travel logistics did not allow for everyone to alter their schedules, resulting in the cancelation of the final BTR exhibition of the 2021 American Flat Track season.

“This is obviously not the ending we were hoping for, but this is a reality of racing,” said Breeann Poland, Marketing and Communications Lead – Royal Enfield Americas. “There are elements beyond our control and we have to roll with the punches. This marks the end of the American Flat Track BTR championship, but look for the women to be racing various events throughout the winter.

“I can’t express how proud I am of all the women in this program—watching them all push themselves both on and off the track and grow as racers, and as people. They are truly testament to the success of the Build. Train. Race. program and we are more excited than ever to reach to even bigger heights in 2022!”

The Royal Enfield BTR Road Racing program is already looking toward an expanded platform with American Flat Track next season. An announcement on the 2022 Royal Enfield BUILD. TRAIN. RACE. USA Flat Track program, including details on the application period, is coming soon. Find more information at https://buildtrainrace.com/.

Bulgarian born racer Mihail Florov sets his sights on MotoAmerica after pairing up with the Innovation Race Team to bring the first BMW M 1000 RR Superbike to the United States to race in the highly competitive and prestigious MotoAmerica Superbike class.

The Innovation Race Team is also proud to announce a collaboration with technical partner Alpha Racing. Alpha Racing pride themselves in being the world’s leading specialist in professional racing parts and services for all BMW Superbike models, they boast a deep routed partnership with BMW Motorrad Motorsport and the official BMW Motorrad teams and will be a valuable addition to the project to ensure Florov has the best possible chances of success in the United States as he sets sail on his journey away from Europe.

Mihail has plenty of on-track experience to his name, starting his career racing in the Greek and Spanish Championships placing second overall in the Greek R3 Challenge Cup and fifth in the Spanish R3 Challenge Cup in the same year. The following year he moved up to a higher capacity 600cc machine racing in the Spanish CIV Open600 class, very nearly clinching the title in his first year on a Supersport machine eventually finishing in an impressive third place overall. In 2020 and 2021 he raced for the highly successful Stratos Team in the National Spanish ESBK Supersport series with some strong results including a best result of P4 before opting to fully focus on 2022 and withdraw from the series earlier this year. Following his withdrawal he has spent time getting to grips with the BMW S1000 RR completing tests and events to understand the BMW and the extra power the 1000cc has to offer.

The goal of the Innovation Race Team powered by Alpha Racing is to help develop Florov and continue his steady growth as a motorcycle racer, focusing on developing his physical and mental strength as he takes the biggest leap of his career so far. The team’s focus is to develop the 2022 BMW M 1000 RR in the United States and aid Florov in his development with the goal of eventually battling at the front of the field against the very best riders the MotoAmerica series has to offer, combining all areas of the team to create a competitive and strong package with technical support from Alpha Racing.

Jacques Cochran, Innovation Race Team: “Innovation Race Team is dedicated to developing the sport and ensuring the future of talented riders. Having Alpha Racing as an official technical partner is a natural fit in our mission to develop our maintenance talent and provide our rider with the best-equipped Superbike to challenge for the top MotoAmerica Superbike spots. We will be fighting strong in 2022 and for many years to come.”

Alpha Racing: “We are delighted to take part in this exciting Superbike project as a technical partner in one of the strongest national championships worldwide. In order to be competitive in the series it is important that the structure regarding the team, rider and equipment work seamlessly. With many years of racing know-how and our Performance Parts we would like to contribute another piece to the success of the newly founded Innovation Race Team based around a young, highly motivated rider. The BMW M 1000 RR Superbike is set up and prepared with the utmost precision in our Competence Center in Germany. Furthermore, the team will receive additional on-site support from our Race Support staff at all MotoAmerica rounds. We look forward to the cooperation with the Innovation Race Team and eagerly await the start of the 2022 racing season.”

Mihail Florov, Innovation Race Team rider: “I am super excited to race with an Alpha Racing ready-to-race prepped 2022 BMW M 1000 RR. Having Alpha Racing as a technical partner in my box will be a huge boost in confidence knowing I have a bike in great hands helping me restrain this beast. It is going to be an amazing challenge for me and a new chapter of my racing career. I have put a lot of sweat and tears into my training to get myself to a new level, focusing and knowing I will be more than ready. Having a BMW Superbike with their new projects team is a really good combination. I will be getting my first taste of the new BMW M 1000 RR with their race-ready bike soon and it will be a special and amazing moment. Going to a different country without knowing any of the tracks is a big challenge but I am looking forward to this moment. I am so excited to race in MotoAmerica after being glued to my seat watching the championship action unfold this year learning as much as possible from my future competitors. MotoAmerica has really fast riders racing at a high level and is an internationally well-known championship. I will be doing my best to learn fast and get to the front positions and demonstrate the power of the BMW. I am honoured to be a part of this brand new team and recognise the magnitude of this unique opportunity. I want to make an impact on the racing world and prove my abilities in 2022 and prove it is more than just racing. I am ready for this challenge!”

American Flat Track: More From The Charlotte Half-Mile

Mees Crowned 2021 Grand National Champion at Dramatic Progressive AFT Finale

CONCORD, N.C. (October 10, 2021) – An epic Progressive American Flat Track season finale was all but guaranteed with the Mission SuperTwins presented by S&S Cycle title on the line. Even still, the Honda Charlotte Half-Mile at the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., proved more dramatic than anyone could have possibly foreseen.

After the checkered flag dropped and a season’s worth of points were stacked up, the legendary Jared Mees (No. 9 Indian Motorcycle/Progressive Insurance FTR750) completed his two-year climb to reclaim the Grand National Championship.

Following 15-and-one-half rounds, a titanic Grand National Championship fight took a fateful turn in the blink of an eye. Two-time defending Mission SuperTwins presented by S&S Cycle king Briar Bauman (No. 1 Indian Motorcycle/Progressive Insurance FTR750) shook free from an early dogfight with Mees to stretch out several bike lengths at the front. The two title contenders would spend the next several minutes in a game of cat-and-mouse, with Bauman managing a gap of just under a second despite Mees’ desperate attempt to eat away at the advantage.

If Bauman held that lead to the checkered flag, he was set to become just the sixth rider in history to win three consecutive Grand National Championships. But that dream became a nightmare when he got loose in the wet section and his machine stood up underneath him.

After nearly pulling off a miraculous save, Bauman ultimately clipped a hay bale and was sent over the bars. His bike then skittered directly into the path of podium contender Sammy Halbert (No. 69 Coolbeth-Nila Racing Indian FTR750), who had nowhere to go and was sent high into the air in a dramatic crash.

After some time, Bauman was able to return to his feet while Halbert was unfortunately unable to continue the race and was transported to be evaluated for injury.

Further proving his worthiness as a champion, Bauman mounted his back-up machine and lined up at the back of the grid for the restart with five minutes plus two laps remaining to decide the title. Unfortunately, his battered body was unable to match his bravery, and after a short stint, Bauman was forced to retire into the pits.

While the title was effectively decided at that point, the race was not. JD Beach (No. 95 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT) stepped forward to provide Mees a fierce fight for the win. As the time ticked away, the two were slowly reeled in by Davis Fisher (No. 67 BMC Racing/Dick Wall 60 Indian FTR750) and Jarod Vanderkooi (No. 20 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750), who turned it into a four-way scrap as the clock hit 0:00.

With two to go, Beach took his shot, which was skillfully brushed away by Mees.

Fisher, however, took advantage of their tussle, slipping under Beach and then lining up Mees in the year’s final corner. He got underneath the champion-to-be and powered past him as they sprinted to the checkered flag.

The paddock erupted as Fisher hit the stripe 0.114 seconds ahead of Mees to claim his maiden premier class victory. Beach held on for third, followed by Vanderkooi and Brandon Robinson (No. 44 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750) to complete the top five.

Fisher said, “Oh man, it was a fight. All season long was a grind, just to stay fit and keep working on the bikes all week long. It feels so good. I even had thoughts to not even come to Charlotte this year. We loaded up the van and left the trailer at home and made the trip. This morning my sponsor said he was glad we came and asked me if I was glad too. I said, ‘I don’t know — I’ll tell you tonight!’ It feels so good. I’ve got 41 hours to think about it on the way home.”

Future Hall of Famer Mees now boasts the ’12, ‘14, ‘15, ’17, ’18, and ‘21 Grand National Championships, along with the 2009 and 2011 GNC1 Twins Championships and the 2012 GNC1 Singles Championship. He said, “I hand it to Briar. He’s definitely one of the toughest competitors — if not the toughest competitor — I’ve ever dealt with.

“The famous saying is you win ‘em any way you can. I don’t know… the hype isn’t there at this very second… but to win these things you have to cross the finish line. Man, he made me step up my game these past few years — there’s no doubt about that. He’s one tough competitor. We had a little ‘bro-out’ moment back there, and I told him, ‘Hey, you’re gonna heal up and the battle will resume next year.’”

AFT Singles

The AFT Singles finale played out about as tensely as possible considering the situation at hand, but in the end, Dallas Daniels (No. 1 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F) did exactly what he needed to in order to become the class’ first-ever back-to-back champion.

With a 20-point gap separating Daniels from second-ranked Max Whale (No. 18 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 450 SX-FFE), the only way Daniels wouldn’t hold onto the #1 plate was if Whale won and Daniels finished lower than 13th.

While that seemed like an unlikely prospect in theory, it felt a whole lot more realistic once the rubber actually hit the dirt. As the deciding race took shape, Whale put himself up front in an intense battle with Kody Kopp (No. 143 Smartop/Jones Honda/Latus Motors CRF450R) while Daniels cautiously circulated down in 12th on a tricky course that repeatedly demonstrated the capacity to catch riders out without notice.

Adding to the tension, the race was red-flagged late following a Morgen Mischler (No. 13 Mission Roof Systems KTM 450 SX-F) crash. That forced Daniels to navigate the close quarters of a restart, but he actually made up ground in the process, getting away well to slot into a safe sixth.

Whale did all he could, slashing past Kopp to claim his class-leading fifth win of the year. Just behind, Trent Lowe (No. 48 WBR/Suzuki Motor of America RM-Z450) pulled off a spectacular late strike to ace Honda teammates Cole Zabala (No. 51 American Honda/Progressive Insurance CRF450R) and Trevor Brunner (No. 21 American Honda/Progressive Insurance CRF450R) in order to pick up his first podium of ‘21 in his very final attempt.

And then came Daniels, who rolled across the line in sixth to successfully complete his championship defense.

An emotional Daniels fought back the tears as he said, “This championship has been tough — a lot of ups and downs this season. I can’t thank my team enough. It’s been a hard season and these guys stuck behind me. To make history like this is awesome. It was tough tonight because the track was treacherous. It just means the world to me.”

Race winner and championship runner-up Whale said, “It’s really satisfying. You’re only as good as your last race. You know, it’s awesome to get the win, and I’m super pumped. The team and I worked so hard today. But I’m also bummed because I really wanted to win the championship this year. But that’s how it goes really — it’s motorcycle racing. Congrats to the whole Estenson team and Dallas — he rode great all year.”

AFT Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines

The late-season transition of Jesse Janisch (No. 96 Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson XG750R) from the couch to AFT Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines podium contention ended on the top step of the box.

Once regarded primarily as a 450cc TT ace, Janisch proved he more than belonged on a twin after being drafted to sub for the injured Dalton Gauthier (No. 79 D&D Cycles/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson XG750R). With finishes of second, third, third, and fourth to his name in limited duty, Janisch put the cherry on top with a narrow victory in the finale over Ben Lowe (No. 25 Vance & Hines/Mission Roof Systems Harley-Davidson XG750R).

Janisch said, “It’s insane, right? I didn’t expect it. Honestly, I don’t think anyone really expected it. It’s such an honor to get a chance with such a prestigious team. Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson, they’ve got the XG750R working amazingly. Like I’ve said before, I think it’s the best bike in the class. And to just get the opportunity is unreal.”

With the class crown already decided in favor of Cory Texter (No. 65 G&G Racing/Yamaha Racing MT-07), Chad Cose (No. 49 Vance & Hines/Ranger/Roof Systems Harley-Davidson XG750R) and Dan Bromley (No. 62 Memphis Shades/Vinson Construction Yamaha MT-07) came into Charlotte set to decide the championship runner-up between them.

Cose was the race’s early leader and Bromley joined Cose, Janisch, and Lowe in a mid-race tilt for first place. Cose ultimately faded to seventh while Bromley rounded out the podium, but the differential still wasn’t quite enough for Bromley to catch Cose for runner-up honors.

Johnny Lewis (No. 10 Moto Anatomy X Powered by Royal Enfield Twins FT) hustled the Royal Enfield to fourth. Meanwhile, class champ Texter added one final top five to a championship-winning season that tallied up seven wins, 11 podiums, and 13 top-fives in 16 races.

The Honda Charlotte Half-Mile will premiere on NBCSN Saturday, October 16, starting at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT. It will re-air on Friday, October 22, at 6:00 p.m. ET/3:00 p.m. PT.

The smallest gap in the history of Endurance – 70 milliseconds – separated BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team from YART–Yamaha Official EWC Team at the finish of the 6 Hours of Most. The factory BMW won their first endurance world championship race and the Yamaha team climbed on to the podium for the first time this season. Third at Most, Yoshimura SERT Motul were crowned 2021 FIM EWC world champions.

The first edition of the 6 Hours of Most won’t be forgotten in a hurry. A crazy duel was fought during the last few minutes of the race between BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team (Ilya Mikhalchik, Markus Reiterberger and Kenny Foray) and YART–Yamaha Official EWC Team (Marvin Fritz, Karel Hanika and Niccolò Canepa). The German riders Markus Reiterberger for BMW Motorrad and Marvin Fritz for YART offered viewers a spectacular fight for the win. A mere 70 milliseconds separated the two machines at the finish. An absolute first in world Endurance! Over the last half-hour, Marvin Fritz beat the fastest race lap four times. He set the final record, a 1:33.875, on his second-last lap.

It was also BMW’s very first victory in the FIM Endurance world championship.

The duel nearly eclipsed the fight for third place on the podium between Yoshimura SERT Motul and Webike SRC Kawasaki France Trickstar. The Franco-Japanese Suzuki team (Gregg Black, Xavier Simeon and Sylvain Guintoli) fended off the attacks of the French Kawasaki to the very end. Yoshimura SERT Motul’s objective was to win a 17th world title in style and also climb on to the podium at Most. They achieved their objective.

Thanks to their win, BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team claimed the overall runner-up spot.

Webike SRC Kawasaki France Trickstar (Jérémy Guarnoni, Erwan Nigon and David Checa) finished 4th at the 6 Hours of Most after running a flawless race. The factory Kawasaki team wound up the season on the third step of the overall podium.

Wójcik Racing Team (Gino Rea, Sheridan Morais and Dan Linfoot), who were at the front of the field throughout, finished 5th at Most. It was their best result following a tough season.

ERC Endurance-Ducati (Etienne Masson, Lorenzo Zanetti and Mathieu Gines) made progress at every race and were 6th at the finish ahead of the first Superstock, No Limits Motor Team (Luca Scassa, Kevin Calia and Alexis Masbou).

The Czech team TME Racing took 2nd place in the Superstock class after a superb race among the Superstock front-runners. Energie Endurance 91, 3rd in the Superstock class, climbed on to the podium in class for the first time.

BMRT 3D Maxxess Nevers, the winners of the FIM Superstock World Cup at the Bol d’Or, were forced to withdraw. Thanks to their win at Most, No Limits Motor Team claimed the runner-up spot in the FIM Endurance World Cup.

6 hours of flat-out racing

After Gregg Black’s holeshot in the saddle of Yoshimura SERT Motul’s Suzuki, Mike di Meglio placed F.C.C. TSR Honda France in the lead. Ilya Mikhalchik quickly took over the lead for BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team while Marvin Fritz was doing a fast climb back up after a sluggish start from pole.

The first incidents affected the leading pack two hours into the race. F.C.C. TSR Honda France crashed and ended up not classified. Tati Team Beringer Racing and Moto Ain also crashed when they were in the Top 10, followed by VRD Igol Experiences whose Yamaha suffered engine failure.

VRD Igol Experiences were 7th and determined to defend their 2nd place in the overall standings. They were not classified despite a lap pushing the bike to get past the finish line, but their determination won them the Anthony Delhalle EWC Spirit Trophy.

With two dominating victories at the 24 Heures Motos and the Bol d’Or 24 Hours in France, the official factory team started the fourth round, and season finale, with a comfortable lead in the championship standings. However, the team of Gregg Black, Xavier Siméon and Sylvain Guintoli, still needed to secure a good result to take the title at the 6 Hours of Most.

The team had a strong start when the super-cool and fast-starting Black grabbed the holeshot from third position on the grid. Without taking any unnecessary risks but keeping a strong pressure on the team’s opponents in the championship, the French-English-born rider finished his stint by placing the Suzuki in third position as he handed over to Siméon.

The excellent and smooth work continued with Black’s teammates Siméon and Guintoli putting in consistently-fast stints. As the hours passed, some racing incidents upset the order of the leaderboard for the team’s nearest challengers, but Yoshimura SERT Motul made no mistakes.

The three riders settled into a strong and comfortable third position and kept a steady pace, right up until the chequered flag fell, to take the third step of the podium. In doing so, they won the 2021 FIM EWC title in convincing style with a total of 175.5 points, some 42.5 points ahead of second-placed BMW Motorrad.

Suzuki has now won a total of 20 Endurance World titles; 16 with the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) and now the 2021 title with the new Yoshimura SERT Motul team. For the French-Japanese Yoshimura SERT Motul team, it is a crucial win in its first year of EWC participation.

Suzuki dominated the event as, in the Superstock category, the victory went to the GSX-R1000R #44 of No Limits Motor Team ridden by Luca Scassa, Alexis Masbou and Kevin Calia. The Italian team finished second in the FIM World Cup.

Damien Saulnier – Team Manager:  “We came to take the title and we hoped to get on the podium too. I have a thought for the #333 with whom we fought a great battle. At the finish there was emotion, joy and a deep gratitude for Yoshimura because this association led to impressive work. I am very proud of this team. We wanted to take as little risk as possible but still take our chances. The package with the bike, tyres and riders worked very well. Dominique Méliand entrusted me with the keys of the SERT and I am happy, in my position as team manager, to offer this team a second title.”

Yohei Kato – Team Director:  “I am very pleased and honoured to win the championship in the first year of participation as the Yoshimura SERT Motul team. We vowed to fight in this Endurance World Championship on behalf of the Suzuki Factory Team. This season has proved to be a dream come true by winning two of the world’s most famous 24-hour races, namely, the 24 Heures of Le Mans and the Bol d’Or.

“This world championship title is the first for this new team and the 20th for Suzuki. Suzuki, Yoshimura and SERT will keep working together to improve the Suzuki GSX-R1000R into an even better package. The whole team will respect each other in the spirit of one for all, all for one. I think this is the best possible result to mark the continuation of our efforts!

“Thank you to all the Yoshimura, SERT and Suzuki fans who warmly supported the new Yoshimura SERT Motul team. We pledge to attract fans to an even better championship next year and Yoshimura SERT Motul will go all out to defend its title.”

Xavier Siméon:  “I had a small scare during the race on an oil stain. Crashing was forbidden in this race and I was lucky to save the bike in extreme circumstances. We had less pressure than at the Bol d’Or where we had to make up the points lost in Estoril. In Most, we could make a careful race which allowed us to win this title which rewards all the team’s work.”

Gregg Black: “SERT is probably one of the best teams in endurance racing for a long time. The association with Yoshimura has paid off because we have an incredible bike. The team has done a lot of work as well as Yoshimura and it is a pleasure for us to ride this bike. The team has also often shown a good racing strategy and that’s important because it’s not always the fastest on the track who wins the championship. So I am very happy to have worked with Yoshimura and my two new teammates.”

Sylvain Guintoli:  “This season was like a dream because everything went according to plan. The most incredible thing for me was to win the 24 Heures Motos and the Bol d’Or – two events that I absolutely wanted to win one day. That’s why I had the idea to join Yoshimura SERT Motul. This title is fantastic because it rewards all the work done by everyone. We arrived here with the championship in mind but also the will to be on the podium, so the contract is fulfilled!”

Dallas Daniels – Estenson Racing AFT Singles

Royal Enfield caps off a successful season of American Flat Track racing with Moto Anatomy X and BUILD. TRAIN. RACE.

Combining the expertise of each team member including team owners Jacques Cochran and Simon Florov with Mihail Florov and an Alpha Racing Technician will provide the team the stability and support required to fight at the highest national level in the USA, a level so high that it can command and attract ex-Grand Prix and WorldSBK riders Loris Baz and Hector Barbera with multiple riders in the class previously competing in Grand Prix races and the WorldSBK championship.

SUZUKI CLINCHES THE 2021 ENDURANCE WORLD TITLE

Yoshimura SERT Motul celebrates winning the 2021 Endurance World Championship.

Yoshimura SERT Motul: GSX-R1000R – 3rd / 1st World Championship.
No Limits Motor Team: GSX-R1000R – SST Class – 1st / 2nd World Championship.

Suzuki claimed the Endurance World Championship crown today at the final round of the 2021 Endurance World Championship (EWC) at the Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic. Its factory-supported Yoshimura SERT Motul team delivered a faultless and calculated race.

The 2021 season confirmed the superiority of the Suzuki brand in the FIM EWC.

Sylvain Guintoli (1) riding the winning Yoshimura SERT Motul Suzuki GSX-R1000R

Sylvain Guintoli:  “This season was like a dream because everything went according to plan. The most incredible thing for me was to win the 24 Heures Motos and the Bol d’Or – two events that I absolutely wanted to win one day. That’s why I had the idea to join Yoshimura SERT Motul. This title is fantastic because it rewards all the work done by everyone. We arrived here with the championship in mind but also the will to be on the podium, so the contract is fulfilled!”
