M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Lochoff Wins ASRA Team Challenge At Daytona (Updated Again)

In his first visit to the historic racetrack, Sam Lochoff rode a Dunlop-shod M4 ECSTAR Suzuki GSX-R600 to overall and GTU class victories in the ASRA Team Challenge endurance race Friday during the 38th Annual Race of Champions at Daytona International Speedway, in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Lochoff, riding the same Suzuki GSX-R600 he used to take third in the 2021 MotoAmerica Supersport Championship, started the race on row eight of the grid, in the second wave, and took the overall race lead on lap 15 of a scheduled 55 laps.

Lochoff led the race into the first of two anticipated pit stop windows, and after all of the leading teams had pitted, Lochoff emerged with a 23-second advantage thanks to the quick work of his experienced M4 ECSTAR Suzuki pit crew.

Moving up to second place during the pit stops was four-time Daytona 200 Champion Danny Eslick, who had started the race late due some fuel spilling out of the fuel tank on his TOBC Racing Triumph Daytona 675R on the grid and that spilled fuel needing to be cleaned off the motorcycle.

Some very fast laps and a quick pit stop allowed Eslick to work his way up to second overall.

Shortly after the pit stops, the race was stopped when Slopoke Racing crashed into the Airfence barriers outside of Turn Six, causing a lengthy red flag stoppage.

On the restart, Lochoff got the holeshot from pole position, started ripping off some of his fastest laps of the race, and pulled away to win the race by 14.576 seconds.

Finishing second overall and in the GTU category was Birch Racing/B&D House’s Jody Barry and Dorsey “DJ” Birch on a Pirelli-equipped Yamaha YZF-R6. Taking third overall and in GTU was 16-year-old Joseph LiMandri, Jr., who rode his Pirelli-fitted Bauce Racing Yamaha YZF-R6 solo.

TOBC Racing’s Eslick retired with a clutch failure shortly after the restart.

Because of the red flag, the race reached its two-hour time limit before 55 laps could be completed. M4 ECSTAR Suzuki’s Lochoff completed 43 laps.

We will update this post after the official results are released.

Royal Enfield Leading Motorcycle Expedition To South Pole

ROYAL ENFIELD TO LEAD A FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND MOTORCYCLE EXPEDITION TO THE SOUTH POLE

90° SOUTH – QUEST FOR THE POLE: An extraordinary endeavor in celebration of 120 years of pure motorcycling.

Milwaukee, WI – For 120 years, Royal Enfield has maintained the legacy of building simple, authentic, motorcycles that are engaging and fun to ride. Riding through time and tough terrain since 1901, Royal Enfield has emerged victorious in excursions that test the endurance of man and machine. To commemorate 120 years of the pure motorcycling culture, Royal Enfield will take on yet another ambitious attempt—a first-of-its-kind motorcycle expedition that will attempt to reach the geographic South Pole.

90° SOUTH – Quest for the Pole serves as a tribute to the brand’s commitment to pure motorcycling, and to the courage and fortitude of explorers who have made history on two wheels. In this ambitious attempt to push the boundaries of motorcycling possibilities, two Royal Enfield riders will undertake a 39-day trek across Antarctica on a 478-mile (770 km) ride from the Ross Ice Shelf via the Leverette Glacier on expedition-ready Royal Enfield Himalayans. The journey is to commence on November 26, 2021, beginning in Cape Town, South Africa. The expedition will witness two Royal Enfield riders—Santhosh Vijay Kumar, Lead – Rides & Community, Royal Enfield; and Dean Coxson, Senior Engineer – Product Development, Royal Enfield—attempting to reach the geographic South Pole to the Amundsen-Scott Pole station.

“Over the last 120 years, we have created and nurtured a thriving culture of riding and exploration around the world,” said Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director of Eicher Motors Ltd. “This pursuit of exploration has been a quintessential part of our DNA, and 90° South – Quest for the Pole is another chapter in our series of extraordinary, epic motorcycling rides. In the past, rides like Himalayan Odyssey have paved the way for motorcycling adventure in the Himalayas and an epic expedition like this to the South Pole will once again inspire people to become adventurers. A test of endurance and perseverance for man and machine, this expedition is the first of its kind attempt to traverse the 478-mile (770 km) route to the South Pole on a motorcycle.”

Speaking about the brand’s initiative to encourage explorations, and wishing the expedition great success, B Govindarajan, Executive Director, Royal Enfield remarked, “It has been an unbroken legacy of 120 years, of fueling and pushing the boundaries of human exploration, and being an ally to many explorers. It is their journeys and adventures that have inspired us to attempt this first of its kind motorcycle expedition. This bold and ambitious attempt to ride to the very end of the earth illustrates the resilience of the human spirit, and we hope to complete it successfully as an ode to all Royal Enfield riders, and to inspire their own expeditions.”

To be conducted in close partnership with Arctic Trucks, 90° South – Quest for the Pole will be attempted on two, purpose-built Royal Enfield Himalayans. Arctic Trucks, a member of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators, are renowned for their expertise in the field and have covered over 350,000 km on the Antarctic Plateau. They have supported and serviced several scientific expeditions and activities, as well as commercial and NGO expeditions in the past.

HIMALAYANS BUILT FOR ANTARCTICA

For this expedition, two Himalayans have been modified in-house, with functional upgrades to be able to navigate snow and ice to function under the extreme Antarctic conditions. The Himalayan was tested for this arduous journey at the Langjokull glacier in Iceland, with an intent to mirror the conditions in Antarctica. Phase 1 of testing was held in September 2020 while phase 2 of testing concluded in July 2021.

Minimal changes have been made to the Himalayan motorcycles to make them ready for the terrain and weather conditions in Antarctica. For greater torque at the rear wheel, the countershaft sprocket has been changed from a 15- to a 13-tooth unit. A tubeless wheel setup with studded tires will allow the tires to run at very low pressures, and to increase floatation on soft snow while also providing adequate traction on hard ice. The team has introduced a stronger alternator using rare earth magnets, enabling the Himayalans to produce more current and enable the team to run heated gear off the battery.

Launched in 2016, the Royal Enfield Himalayan is a simple, extremely capable, and go-anywhere motorcycle. Inspired from the experience of decades of riding in the Himalayas, and traversing thousands of kilometers of challenging terrain, the Royal Enfield Himalayan was built to be a versatile motorcycle that is capable on the road, as well as off the beaten track. The Himalayan has been a trusted ally for many adventure seekers around the world.

The motorcycles will be ridden on a compacted snow track from the Ross Ice Shelf to the South Pole, to reduce motorcycle drag and limit emissions to an absolute minimum. Royal Enfield is consciously ensuring no footprint is left behind by the expedition team except wheel tracks that will quickly be lost to snow drift. In line with our #LeaveEveryPlaceBetter initiative, the team will ensure all waste including human waste is brought back for appropriate disposal.

Ducati Adds New Scrambler Models For 2022

Ducati Scrambler reveals the new models for 2022 to its fans

New 2022 models of the “Land of Joy” presented in the second episode of the Ducati World Première: Ducati Scrambler 1100 Tribute PRO and Ducati Scrambler Urban Motard

The Ducati Scrambler 1100 Tribute PRO was created to pay homage to the history of the air-cooled twin-cylinder engine, fifty years after it was first introduced on a Ducati

The new Ducati Scrambler Urban Motard is a model with a contemporary look, designed for younger fans of the “Land of Joy” and for all those looking for an easy, fun and sporty bike

Borgo Panigale (Bologna, Italy), 14 October 2021 – Ducati Scrambler was the protagonist of the second episode of the Ducati World Première 2022 (link to the video here), which saw two new models – Ducati Scrambler 1100 Tribute PRO and Ducati Scrambler Urban Motard, that enrich the “Land of Joy” range for 2022 – presented to enthusiasts from all over the world.

The Ducati Scrambler 1100 Tribute PRO has been created to pay homage to the history of the air-cooled twin-cylinder engine, fifty years after it was first introduced on a Ducati, which was in 1971.

Created by Ducati Scrambler with modern-classic bike lovers and motorcycle history enthusiasts in mind, the Ducati Scrambler 1100 Tribute PRO pays tribute to the history and achievements of the Borgo Panigale motorcycle company. For this bike, the Centro Stile Ducati was inspired by iconic Ducati elements of the 1970s, such as the special “Giallo Ocra” livery, the Ducati logo of the time designed by Giugiaro and the spoked wheels, which are black and integrate perfectly with the tones of the celebratory livery. Further distinctive stylistic details are represented by the circular rear-view mirrors and the brown seat with dedicated stitching.

From a technical point of view, the bike has the characteristics of the Ducati Scrambler 1100 PRO family. It has an iconic and at the same time original design, an agile chassis and a 1,079 cc engine that delivers 86 hp of power at 7,500 rpm and a torque value of 9.2 kgm at 4,750 rpm, characterized by generous torque right from low revs.

The Ducati Scrambler 1100 Tribute PRO comes standard with three Riding Modes, each associated with different Power Modes and various levels of Ducati Traction Control (DTC). Furthermore, thanks to the front headlight with LED light guide, the bike is always visible and recognizable even during the day.

Another new model for 2022 is the Ducati Scrambler Urban Motard: a motorcycle created to experience the city environment by making itself noticed through a combination of style, sportiness and fun.

The name chosen for this latest version immediately evokes the characteristic atmosphere of large cities and is aimed at all those who live the city with energy and enthusiasm. The Centro Stile Ducati has interpreted these concepts through the proposal of a new livery that combines in an unprecedented way colours Star White Silk and Ducati GP ’19 Red in energetic graphics, inspired by the world of street art and metropolitan graffiti.

The Ducati Scrambler Urban Motard is powered by the 803 cc L-twin engine with desmodromic distribution, which delivers 73 hp of power at 8,250 rpm and 6.7 kgm of torque at 5,750 rpm, offering brilliant performance that never becomes intimidating for the rider, guaranteeing great agility in city traffic and fun on itineraries full of curves.

The reference to the Motard world of this version is clear in the choice of elements such as the 17” spoked wheels, the high front mudguard, the flat seat and the side number plates, which are perfectly integrated into the Ducati Scrambler design.

The Urban Motard is also equipped as standard with a headlight with LED DRL, a hallmark of all Ducati Scrambler models, which is combined with the rear light with full LED diffusion technology.

Confirming Ducati’s attention and commitment to active safety for its enthusiasts, the Borgo Panigale motorbike manufacturer has chosen to equip all Ducati and Scrambler Ducati models with Cornering ABS, which guarantees high levels of safety even when braking with the bike at an angle.

The models are also designed for the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS), which enables a smartphone to be connected to the bike via Bluetooth, while the USB socket positioned under the seat is standard.

The new Ducati Scrambler Urban Motard joins the “Land of Joy” 800 range, alongside the Ducati Scrambler Icon, Ducati Scrambler Icon Dark, Ducati Scrambler Nightshift and Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled models. The Ducati Scrambler 1100 Tribute PRO is part of the range of best performing bikes in the Ducati Scrambler family, together with the Ducati Scrambler 1100 Dark PRO and Ducati Scrambler 1100 Sport PRO models.

Both new models of the Ducati Scrambler range will be available at dealerships in the Ducati network from November 2021. All Ducati Scrambler models are also available in a 35-kW version for A2 license holders.

To give fans of the “Land of Joy”, the universe that truly represents self-expression in Ducati, an opportunity to express their attitude to customization in the best way, Ducati Scrambler offers a wide choice in terms of clothing and accessories. The clothing line includes helmets, technical gear and lifestyle products (which can be purchased in dealerships or through the online shop), while the accessories collection includes a range of items, such as seats, tank panels and approved exhausts, all viewable through the online configurator.
