World Superbike: Kawasaki Planning Three-Day Test At Jerez

Jerez Test The First Step Into 2022

The first on track preparations for the 2022 FIM Superbike World Championship will take place for the official Kawasaki Racing Team at Jerez in Spain between 15-17 December, just under a month after the culmination of the 2021 season at Mandalika in Indonesia.

Six times World Champion Jonathan Rea will be joined on track by Alex Lowes once again, this time for a three day test at the 4.423km long Circuito de Jerez Angel Nieto in the extreme south west of Spain.

Upgrades and test parts will be available for both Jonathan and Alex to evaluate on the official Ninja ZX-10RR WorldSBK race spec machine before the short winter break begins over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

After a thrilling and incredibly hard-fought 2021 WorldSBK season that saw Rea get to within 13 points of yet another championship win the focus for 2022 is improving the overall race package at each and every round.

Rea scored more podium finishes than any other rider in 2021 and equalled new champion Toprak Razgatlioglu’s tally of 13 race wins, after taking both race victories at the final round in Indonesia.

Even after an injury affected season Alex Lowes scored five podiums in 2021. He continues along the path to a full physical recovery but will test at Jerez this week to ensure that he can evaluate all the new items and set-up options before the mid-winter break begins.

With a provisional calendar already published for the 2022 WorldSBK season the first competitive round is scheduled for Motorland Aragon, between eight and 10 April.

Jonathan Rea, stated: “I am really happy to get back on the bike this side of Christmas because we can try to carry on the good feeling we finished with at the end of the season. Jerez is always a good test circuit to go to because we have a lot of data from there. It is also a circuit that has never been the strongest for us so we can work in some weaker areas. We expect to have some items to test, which is really good because KMC and KRT have been working very hard on some new chassis items and electronics. We hope to improve the feeling of our bike, work together in a good way and the target will be to give good solid info to all the engineers try to improve the overall package. There is no pressure for lap times or anything like that. I am looking forward to it and I hope that the weather is good, and consistent, so that we can get a lot of laps done.”

Alex Lowes, stated: “Obviously this test is important to select the direction we need to go with our package for 2022. Whilst I won’t be 100% fit yet, our performance isn’t our focus at this time. My crew chief Marcel, my electronics engineer Danilo and all the guys on the technical side have been working hard and have prepared lots of options for me to try. I am really excited to see what we can improve. If we get through all these items not only will it be a busy test but it will be job done – this is our only aim.”

Guim Roda, KRT Team Manager, stated: “The plan for this test is to ride with the inertia of the 2021 season and then start to check some of the ideas we have to improve for next year. It is mainly a rechecking of some points KMC has been working on with the bike, and some set-up directions to improve what we have seen this season. We will use the three days at Jerez to try and improve our competitiveness. We cannot use all the track time available, due to the riders’ test day limitations, so we will manage things the best way possible to make good conclusions. Other than that, we will continue working in the best directions we have used this season. We came very close to achieving our goals this year so it is not a matter of big changes but polishing the areas we know were are a bit weak in.”

USMCA Certifies 300th Motorcycle Coach

USMCA Achieves New Milestone with 300 Certified Motorcycle Coaches

Temecula, California – The U.S. Motorcycle Coaching Association (USMCA) has achieved a new milestone as the 300th certified motorcycle coach was named this week. The 300 coaches represent 43 states across the United States and Puerto Rico.

Since 2016, the USMCA has been connecting riders to certified coaches, and the organization is pleased to achieve its goal of having 300 certified coaches in 2021, a few weeks early. “2021 was a year to push the connection between rider and coach while also continuing our effort of outreaching to more coaches and organizations across the U.S., raising awareness and interest toward the USMCA and what coaching can do to build up new and existing riders”, stated USMCA President, Christy LaCurelle. “We are grateful to all the coaches that believe in our mission to grow the sport of motorcycling through proper coaching and can’t wait to continue to grow our number past 300 and fine-tune our marketing message toward riders to make sure all riders know exactly where they can go to find a coach in their area.”

To help improve the way riders can find a coach, the USMCA has been working diligently over the last six months to build a Motorcycle Coaching mobile app; available for download in the Apple iOS and Google Play stores. Having the mobile app free for download and use will make it easier for a rider to connect with a certified coach. A new website that coincides with the app will launch collectively, so the user experience is the same no matter which platform a rider chooses to reach a coach.

All USMCA certified coaches are existing, independent motorcycle coaches. Having coaches complete the certification ensures they have passed a national-level background screening, are CPR/ First Aid certified and SSI Certified.

“2021 has been a record-breaking year for the USMCA in terms of coaches completing their renewals and getting their first-time certification. With our MotorcycleCoaching.org website receiving more traffic than ever for riders to connect with a coach in their area, we felt there was no better time to make the connection easier by creating a mobile app. We are grateful for our coaching network and look forward to another record-breaking year in 2022,” stated Lindsey Scheltema, USMCA Executive Director.

About the U.S. Motorcycle Coaching Association (USMCA)
USMCA is an association where riders and parents can connect to motorcycle coaches they can trust through the network, www.MotorcycleCoaching.org.

All USMCA Certified Coaches are required to adhere to a code of conduct, pass a background check and hold certifications in abuse prevention, CPR/First Aid, concussion protocol, heat illness & cardiac arrest training.

World’s Leading Brand Of Tortillas And Wraps Renews With Three-Year Deal. Seven-Round 2022 Series Kicks Off At Daytona In March

IRVINE, CA (December 14, 2021) – MotoAmerica, North America’s premier motorcycle road racing series, is pleased to announce Mission Foods, the world’s leading brand for tortillas and wraps, will continue as the title sponsor of its Mission King Of The Baggers Series for the next three years, beginning with the expanded seven-round 2022 season.

With a year of title sponsorship under its belt from the inaugural three-round Mission King Of The Baggers Series in 2021, Mission returns to again be the naming rights holder of the championship that has grown to seven rounds for the 2022 season. The series will kick off with two races in the highly anticipated season opener on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, March 10-12.

We can’t think of a better place to start the series than Daytona and we look forward to another awesome series with Mission as our title sponsor for King Of The Baggers.”

– Harley-Davidson and ABIC to Host a Joint Conference Call Today at 8:30 AM ET

MILWAUKEE and NEW YORK and LONDON, Dec. 13, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Harley-Davidson, Inc. (“Harley-Davidson”) (NYSE: HOG), the world’s most desirable motorcycle company, and AEA-Bridges Impact Corp. (“ABIC”) (NYSE: IMPX), a special purpose acquisition company with a dedicated sustainability focus, sponsored by executives of AEA Investors and Bridges Fund Management, today announced that they have entered into a definitive business combination agreement under which ABIC will combine with LiveWire (the “Company”), Harley-Davidson’s electric motorcycle division, to create a new publicly traded company. Its common stock is expected to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “LVW”.

LiveWire plans to redefine motorcycling as the industry-leading, all-electric motorcycle company, with a focus on the urban market and beyond. As a strong and desirable brand with growing global recognition, LiveWire plans to develop the technology of the future and to invest in the capabilities needed to lead the transformation of motorcycling. LiveWire will draw on its DNA as an agile disruptor from the lineage of Harley-Davidson, capitalizing on a decade of learnings in the EV sector and the iconic heritage of the most desirable motorcycle brand in the world.

Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO of Harley-Davidson:
“Today’s announcement is a historic milestone with LiveWire set to become the first publicly traded EV motorcycle company in the U.S.  By building on Harley-Davidson’s 118-year lineage, LiveWire’s mission is to be the most desirable electric motorcycle brand in the world, leading the electrification of the sport. This transaction will give LiveWire the freedom to fund new product development and accelerate its go-to-market model. LiveWire will be able to operate as an agile and innovative public company while benefitting from the at-scale manufacturing and distribution capabilities of its strategic partners, Harley-Davidson and KYMCO.”

John Garcia, Chairman and Co-CEO of AEA-Bridges Impact Corp:
“We are at the confluence of two seminal shifts impacting the industry – vehicle electrification and sustainability. LiveWire is well-positioned to become the premier sustainable electric motorcycle brand and redefine the industry by leveraging the manufacturing and distribution expertise of Harley-Davidson and KYMCO. We’re excited to partner with Harley-Davidson and the LiveWire team to help define the future of electric motorcycles as the industry continues its rapid transformation.”

Together, Harley-Davidson, ABIC and KYMCO, believe in the future of LiveWire as a dedicated electric brand with the ability to lead, grow and revolutionize the electric motorcycle industry and beyond.

LiveWire:

Building on a 10-year journey within Harley-Davidson and established as a separate division in 2019, LiveWire is an industry leading, all-electric motorcycle brand with a focus on the urban market, and a mission to pioneer the electric motorcycle space and beyond.

LiveWire will develop the technology of the future and will invest in the capabilities needed to lead the transformation of motorcycling.

As a pure-play EV brand with first-mover advantage, LiveWire has brand presence in North America and Europe, with planned expansion into additional markets including Asia.

LiveWire has a deep track record of R&D investments and a clearly defined strategy to capture increasing market share and consumer adoption in the growing two-wheel EV transition, following significant investment to date.

LiveWire has a compelling financial profile with a robust new product pipeline with breakthrough technology and features, and a clear path to attractive long-term profitability.

LiveWire will also include STACYC, the all-electric balance bikes for kids.

Strategic rationale:

LiveWire will benefit from its industry-leading strategic partners, leveraging Harley-Davidson and KYMCO’s engineering expertise, manufacturing footprint, distribution, supply chain infrastructure and global logistics capabilities.

LiveWire will be the first public EV motorcycle company in the U.S. with its products designed and developed in America.

LiveWire will expand its own product portfolio while focusing on the rapidly developing future of EV, ensuring that future technology is applicable to Harley-Davidson’s core segments.

EV is an integral part of The Hardwire, Harley-Davidson’s 2021-2025 strategic plan to achieve long-term profitable growth and shareholder value creation. The transaction provides the required focus and investment necessary to win in electric.

Transaction Overview:

The transaction will be financed by ABIC’s $400 million cash held in trust*, a $100 million investment from Harley-Davidson, and a $100 million investment from KYMCO, through a PIPE (private investment in public equity).

The combined company is expected to have an enterprise value of approximately $1.77 billion and post-money equity value of approximately $2.31 billion at closing.

Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO of Harley-Davidson, will be Chairman and serve as Acting CEO of LiveWire for up to two years following completion of the transaction. Ryan Morrissey will serve as President of LiveWire

LiveWire’s Board of Directors will include independent directors in addition to representation from Harley-Davidson and ABIC.

The net cash proceeds will be used to fund LiveWire’s strategic plan to accelerate its go-to-market strategy, invest in new product development, and enhance its global manufacturing and distribution capabilities.

Upon closing of the transaction, Harley-Davidson will retain an equity interest in the Company of approximately 74%, ABIC’s shareholders will own approximately 17%, and ABIC’s founders and KYMCO will own approximately 4% each*.

As the majority shareholder in LiveWire following the transaction, Harley-Davidson will continue to consolidate LiveWire’s results of operations for GAAP financial reporting purposes. LiveWire will be reported as a separate segment within Harley-Davidson’s financials with GAAP disclosures recognizing amounts attributable to the noncontrolling interests.

The transaction, which has been approved by the boards of directors of both Harley-Davidson and ABIC, is expected to close in the first half of 2022, and is subject to the approval of ABIC shareholders and other customary closing conditions.

FHO Racing BMW Announces International Road Race Rider Lineup

FHO RACING SET TO SPEARHEAD BMW’S 2022 ROAD RACING CAMPAIGN WITH HICKMAN AND MCCORMACK

FHO Racing will make their much-anticipated debut at the International road races in 2022, lining up as the official BMW Motorrad road racing team with Peter Hickman and Brian McCormack on board the Bavarian-built machines.

Both multiple road race winner Hickman and McCormack will ride BMW M 1000 RR machinery for Faye Ho’s team in the Superbike and Superstock categories at the Isle of Man TT and North West 200 as well as the Ulster Grand Prix, should it make its return to the road racing calendar.

Both riders will also contest the Macau Grand Prix, which is set to return in November next year, with all four events having failed to run since 2019 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hickman will be aiming to carry on from where he left off in 2019, a year that saw him take Superbike and Superstock success at the world-famous Isle of Man TT. He remains the outright lap record holder around the Mountain Course, his lap of 135.452mph set on the BMW S 1000 RR in 2018.

2019 also saw him win Superbike and Superstock races at the Ulster Grand Prix, where he set a new outright lap record of 136.415mph. The lap saw him and BMW enter the Guinness Book of Records with their lap being a new world record for a circuit still in use.

The Louth-based rider was also victorious in the Superstock class at the North West 200 whilst second place was taken at the Macau Grand Prix, a circuit where he’s already won on three occasions whilst riding BMW machinery.

McCormack, meanwhile, continues with the team after having a solid BSB season in 2021, a campaign which saw him get valuable track time ahead of the return of the International road races next year.

Hailing from Waterford, McCormack is the fastest rider from Southern Ireland ever at the Isle of Man TT with his lap of 128.812mph in the 2019 Senior TT helping him achieve his best finish on the island of ninth. He’ll be aiming to improve upon that next year and also break the 130mph barrier for the first time.

In addition, McCormack has a best finish of fifth at the Ulster Grand Prix, recorded in 2018, on his impressive CV as well as a host of other top ten finishes around the high-speed Dundrod circuit. Joining FHO Racing for 2022, when he’ll continue to receive support from the Roadhouse Bar in Macau, gives him a perfect opportunity to make a real impression on the International road race results, something which he aims to grab firmly with both hands.

Faye Ho, Team Owner: “It’s a real honour for FHO Racing to be chosen by BMW Motorrad as their official team at the 2022 International road races especially as we’ve only been in existence for a year! It shows the progress and impression we’ve made, both on and off the track, and returning to the roads in 2022 with Peter and Brian is very exciting for everyone connected with the team.”

“Peter’s record speaks for itself whilst Brian’s results have continually improved and we’re quietly confident both riders will excel next season. On a personal note, the road races are very important to me and having attended the likes of the TT and, obviously, Macau on a regular basis, I’m thrilled to be attending them in 2022 with the team and in an official capacity.”

Hickman said: “After three years away, I’m delighted to be heading back to the International road races next year and equally delighted to be doing so with FHO Racing. Having re-signed with the team in the British Championship, after a successful season this year, it’s great to be contesting the likes of the TT and NW200 with them too and I can’t wait.

“I had some great times at the road races with the S 1000RR and with the way it performed on the short circuits this year, I’m excited to see what we can do with the M 1000RR on the roads; I’m confident we’ll turn a few heads!”

McCormack said: “To say I’m over the moon to be riding the FHO Racing by Roadhouse Macau BMW for Faye and the team alongside Hicky at the International roads and selected National Superstock rounds would be an understatement! The team are amazing and although this year was challenging for me with injuries and learning everything that goes with riding a Superbike, everyone made me feel at home and looked after me really well.

“Riding for the team in 2022 will give me the best tools and team I need to move up the results at the Isle of Man TT, North West 200, Macau GP and, hopefully, the Ulster GP too. I can’t thank Faye, Darren, Hicky and rest of the team enough for this chance. I am also delighted to continue with the backing from Roadhouse Macau for next season.”

Scott Grimsdall, BMW Motorrad UK, Head of Marketing and PR said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be returning to the international road racing programme following the challenges of the last few years, and it’s great to be doing so with FHO Racing. The Isle of Man TT and North West 200 have been an integral part of BMW’s racing calendar especially in the last decade and we firmly believe we can add to the considerable success we’ve already achieved next year.

“In a short space of time, the FHO Racing team have more than proved themselves and with Peter Hickman spearheading BMW’s road racing challenge in 2022, it’s a really exciting prospect for us. We can’t wait for the racing to start!”

Recent Wedding: Cameron Beaubier – Shelby Smith

Five-time MotoAmerica Superbike Champion and current Moto2 World Championship racer Cameron Beaubier married Shelby Smith December 11 in Roseville, California.

Video: Interview With Moto2 Racer Sam Lowes

“I aim to come out fighting for the World Championship from the first race in 2022”

Sam Lowes completed a successful second season with the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team in 2021 with a fourth place finish overall in the Moto2 World Championship. Lowes claimed an impressive tally of five podiums, three victories and six pole positions to show once again why he is one of the fastest in the intermediate category. In this special interview, the Briton reflects on a positive year while outlining his goals for 2022.

Can you give us your assessment of the 2021 season?

“The last season had some really good points and unfortunately some not such good points. We finished fourth overall in the World Championship and I’m slightly disappointed with that because we started the season so strongly with wins in the first two races in Qatar. I then made some mistakes and lost points and in doing that I lost some momentum and some confidence. I certainly want to do better than fourth overall next year.”

What lessons have you learnt in 2021 that will help make you stronger in 2022?

“You always learn something that can help you in the future and this year I felt I controlled my emotions a lot better. Sometimes I should have accepted the position I was in and finished the race rather than trying to push for a little bit more. It’s all so easy to say after the event but I have learnt a lot in my second year with the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team. They’ve helped improve my riding and we all know as a group there are a lot of things we can improve on to help us fight for the title next year.”

What would say was your best moment of the 2021 season?

“Winning the first race in Qatar was very special because it was a long winter, you’ve done all the training and testing and there is a big build-up, so I was really proud and happy to win that. Winning again in Misano after a few difficult races was also special because in that period as well I seemed to keep finishing in fourth position and just missing the podium.”

What are the key areas you feel can be improved for 2022?

“I need to understand that in some races when you’re in a good position and maybe not feeling the best with the package, it is crucial to finish and score points. That helps you build momentum for the next race because each time you DNF you must pick yourself up and start again at the next race. I know I can be a little bit smarter in certain situations and in terms of my riding I still need to improve in the middle of the turn and on corner exit.”

What is your plan for the start of the winter break?

“I always analyse the previous season and try to understand where I and the Team can be stronger because we are all trying to be better moving forward. I’m going to be working hard and training, but I’ll also take time to enjoy myself with my family because it is important to have that balance. We have the potential to fight for the World Championship next year and we need to do that and this winter will be concentrating on doing everything possible to make it happen in 2022.”

What are your goals for 2022?

“My goals for next year are clear. I must be fighting for the World Championship, and I believe both myself and the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team can do that together. I want to be competitive and battling at the front in every race because if you do that, you’ll be a title contender. I need to improve in a couple of areas because the competition in Moto2 is so tight, but I aim to come out fighting for the World Championship from the first race.”

You have a new teammate for 2022 with Tony Arbolino joining the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team, so what do you think about him as a rider?

“Tony has proven how fast and talented he is because in 2020 he was fighting for the title in Moto3 all the way down to the last race and that’s not easy. It wasn’t easy in his first year in Moto2, but this is such a competitive class, and it is hard to understand his level after just one season. He did some great rides in Le Mans and Austin where he was very fast. To be as fast as he was on a difficult track like Austin, having never ridden a Moto2 bike there was impressive. I expect him to be fast next year and I’m looking forward to working with him because he seems a really cool and great guy. It will be a nice ambience together, which I think was missing at times this year, and I’m sure we can help each other improve.”

MotoE World Cup: Escrig Joins Tech3 E-Racing

Alex Escrig set for MotoE debut with Tech3 E-Racing

Alex Escrig will be joining the Tech3 E-Racing team next year in the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup alongside Spanish compatriot Hector Garzo. The 17-year-old native from Valencia will make his debut in the electric class at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, the first MotoE races of the fourteen scheduled in 2022, and already has his eyes set on the price.

The young rider competed in the Spanish championship in the 80cc class in 2015 and 2016, before he contested for two seasons in the Spanish PreMoto3 category and finished 3rd overall in 2018. This great result allowed him to get his ticket to the Red Bull Rookies Cup for the 2019 and 2020 seasons, during which he managed to finish one time on the podium. Alex is coming out of an incredible 2021 season as he is the new European Stock 600 champion, having won 10 races out of 11.

Alex Escrig

“For next year, my objective is obviously to win the championship. But before everything, I am looking forward to learning about the bike and I want to have fun riding it. The MotoE bike will be different from what I know, but I am very keen to discover new riding techniques. I want to gain experience in fighting for world championships with older riders who are more experienced than me.”

“Hector Garzo will be my teammate for the second time of my young career, and I have known him since I was 4 years old. It will be a pleasure to share a box with him again. We have a good relationship, he has experience in MotoE, so I hope that we will share podiums together.”

Hervé Poncharal

Team Manager

“It is a great pleasure to announce that the Tech3 E-Racing team has now finalized its 2022 line-up. Alongside Hector Garzo, we are delighted to welcome Alex Escrig, a young and promising rider whom we have been following for a few seasons. We have been amazed by his 2021 season as he won the European Stock 600 championship with 10 victories out of 11 races.”

“Clearly the FIM Enel MotoE World Cup is becoming more and more attractive for the riders, and we are proud to be bringing a mix of experience and youth with our new line-up into the electric class. Alex will dispute his rookie season and will have a lot to learn, but I am sure that we can count on Hector to give him a few tips as they know each other already, both being from Valencia. We can’t wait to be in Jerez for the first test session of 2022, and I am sure that our riders will be fighting for podiums and victories next year.”

For more information on the USMCA or become a USMCA Certified Coach, visit www.USMCA.org.

Additional information about the proposed transaction, including a copy of the Business Combination Agreement and the investor presentation, will be provided in a Current Report on Form 8-K to be filed by AEA-Bridges Impact Corp. with the SEC and available at www.sec.gov.
