ZACC-ONE: The #16 beats Arenas in last-lap fight to claim first WorldSSP victory. Aragon hosted a sublime opening race of the paddock’s weekend.
The FIM Supersport World Championship field went to battle at MotorLand Aragon as they fought for the first points on offer from the Aragon Round. Alessandro Zaccone (Ecosantagata Althea Racing Team) crossed the line quickest of the bunch for his first WorldSSP Race win, and his team’s first win since the team’s founder, Genesio Belvilacqua, passed away in January 2026. Behind him in P2 was Albert Arenas for the eighth podium of his rookie season, and taking the bronze medal was Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) for his second this season, and his 12th in the category.
LAST LAP CINEMA FROM ZACCONE
The 15-lap ordeal was off like a shot at lights out, and it was Arenas who flew off the line to defend P1 with the holeshot. His compatriot Roberto Garcia (GMT94 Yamaha) gave chase as he followed from P2 as they began to leave the rest of the field behind across the first three laps. Alessandro Zaccone fought with Valentin Debise (EASTROC ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing) for P3early on, snagging the position momentarily as he divebombed the Frenchman on the run into Turn 16 on the first two laps. The second move stuck, and after pulling off a similar back straight move on home rider Roberto Garcia, Zaccone got to work in cutting down the gap to P1. He hung in behind a determined #75 whose consistent pace set the P1 bar high. On the run across the line into the final lap, Zaccone made it past Arenas, who took the lead back in on Turn 4. He maintained his composure and used the strong top-end power of his Ducati Panigale V2 to outgun the Spaniard on the back straight and held off the #75 to land his first race win in the category. Arenas will be frustrated to not take the win, but it’s a great result for the Championship picture as both Debise in P2 and Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) P3 in the Championship missed the top four, raising his margin to 31 points ahead of the Frenchman.
BOOTH-AMOS MAKES HIS ROSTRUM RETURN
Tom Booth-Amos dropped two positions across the first lap to ride in P6 with 14 laps to go. By Lap 4, he had made his way back to his P4 grid start position, and at the outset of Lap 9, he slipped by the #37 to climb into P3. From there, he set his sights on managing the race and coming home with a solid P3, which he achieved for his first podium since Assen Race 1. Garcia looked poised for a home podium early on, but the high temperatures looked to take their toll on his tyres as he lost positions to eventually settle for P4. Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) hung out near the front positions with the lead six-rider group and made his way past Aldi Mahendra (AS BLU CRU Racing Team) for P5 on the exit of Turn 15 on the Spanish track’s long back straight. As the Spaniard was forced to ride defensively due to tenacious riding from the Indonesian, the pair fell from the lead group to more than two seconds back with two laps to go and finished as such, with Masia in P5 and Mahendra in P6.
DEBISE SLIDES DOWN THE ORDER
Valentin Debise started strong in the top three. After four laps, he had fallen back down to P7, where he led a four-rider group comprised of Matteo Ferrari (WRP Racing), Simon Jespersen (EAB Racing Team) and Philipp Oettl (Feel Racing WorldSSP Team) at the midpoint of the race. With five laps to go, Oettl had fallen to the back of the group to P10, while Debise continued to lead the Italian and the Dane until Ferrari came out on top of a battle with the #53. With that being the case, the group finished Ferrari in P7, Debise in P8, Jespersen in P9, and Oettl in P10.
Farther back, Filippo Farioli (VFT Racing) fought with Can Oncu (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing), who had to contend with a Back of Grid penalty for a yellow flag procedure infringement in the morning’s Warm Up. The Turk made his way past Farioli for P11, behind another late resurgent run from Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) to finish in P11 despite a P21 grid start.
