The Village Idiots team rode their Dunlop-shod RaceworX Yamaha YZF-R6 to a solid margin of victory at the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association’s (CMRA) last 4 Hour Big Bike Endurance race of the season this past Saturday, October 26, giving them the win and the overall endurance championship for 2013. CMRA held its final round of Big Bike Endurance, Mini Endurance, and Mini Sprint grids, bringing over 10 hours of racing action to Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas. Beautiful weather with temperatures in the 70’s, and very little breeze made for great track conditions on the 2.9-mile counter-clockwise course.

The Mini Sprint grids ran on the 1.8-mile short course and were a great warm up for the endurance races, with Formula 4 and Texas Tornado Boot Camp Superstock E again having 26 and 28 entries each. The Junior Motard class, for younger racers age 8-12, had eight bikes on the grid and had some good racing with only 1.180-second separating the first and second place finishers at the checkers. The 2 Hour Mini Endurance also ran on the 1.8-mile short course with a combined grid of 33 teams and classes including Formula 4 and Formula 7. As the final race of the season started, the Green Machine team of Brandon Altmeyer, Ryan Andrews, Jesse Davis, and David Tiede put their heads down and grabbed the lead, turning a 1:20.768 fastest lap of the race on lap 14 on their Kawasaki 250R. The Tip Toes & Tonka Trucks team of Rebecca Caudle, Jeremy Harvey and Ron Mears, riding a Kawasaki 250R, had their hands full with the Desert Brats Racing team of Rick Hogge and Brad Thomas, also on a Kawasaki 250R, and the race leaders battling pulled them away from the rest of the pack by a lap. Heading into the final hour, the Green Machine team stayed strong, widening their lead to a full lap over second, taking the checkers at 1:15 pm for the overall win and first in Formula 4. This win also gave Green Machine the overall Mini Endurance championship for 2013 as well. Tip Toes & Tonka Trucks shook off Desert Brats Racing for second overall and second in Formula 4. Desert Brats Racing crossed the line for third overall and third in Formula 4. The Speedlab team of Bill Syfan and Jeff Mendelson, Hi-Zoot Racing team of Scott McDermott, Alan Phillips and Nathan Winchester, and the OnRoad OffRoad Racing team of Roger Albert, Dustin Sperry, and Wyatt Sperry rounded out the top six finishers.

The 4 Hour Big Bike Endurance race had a combined grid of 36 teams, with classes including A Superbike, C Superbike, Formula 2, and Modern Classic Endurance. When the green flag dropped at noon, the middleweights went at it. The Village Idiots team of Brandon Cleland, Chris Headley, John Orchard, and Garet Tomlinson took the early lead, holding off the Yamaha YZF-R6 mounted LocoMotion team of Alonzo Contreras, Ryan Max Johnson, Matt Vastine, Derek Wagnon and Mark Windham. The Lone Star Track Days team of Brandon Altmeyer, Conner Blevins, Andy Galindo, Mark Niemi, and Eric Williams on their Kawasaki ZX-6R were in the mix too, outrunning the Desert Rats Racing team of Stephen Guynes, Rick Hogge, Derek Thomas, and Greg Wanless on their Yamaha YZF-R1 for third.

As the afternoon wore on, the Village Idiots kept their lead, stretching it to one lap heading into the final hour. LocoMotion kept a firm grip on second, and the Davis Rod & Cycle team of Jesse Davis, Alan Phillips, and Kevin Schwantz got around the Lone Star Track Days team for third going into the final 30 minutes of the race. When the checkers dropped at 5:45 pm, the Village Idiots crossed the line for the win in C Superbike and the overall win. LocoMotion held off Davis Rod & Cycle, taking second in C Superbike and second overall. The team that has to put up with World Champion Kevin Schwantz, Davis Rod & Cycle, took third in C Superbike and third overall.

Rounding out the top six overall finishers were Lone Star Track Days, Desert Rats Racing, and the two-rider iron man team ST II (Chris Fields/Kenny Smith).
