Tray Batey, Mark Junge and John Jacobi took the Vesrah Suzuki GSX-R1000 to the overall and Heavyweight Superbike class win in round four of the Dunlop/WERA National Endurance Series at Willow Springs International Raceway, Saturday, June 4th.
Coming home second on-track in the six-hour race was the local Advanced Kawasaki team of Robbie Dowie, Stuart Smith and Will Eikenberry on a Kawasaki ZX-10R, but they were penalized for cutting their front fender, which did not adhere to Heavyweight Superstock rules, and were docked seven laps, one for each pit-stop they made, dropping them back to fifth overall and second in class.
This promoted Yamaha YZF-R1-mounted Team Velocity Racing riders Ruben Frankenfield, Mark Crozier and Chuck Ivey to second overall and first in Heavyweight Superstock, eight laps down on the leaders.
Sam Fleming, Scott Fisher and Ben Walters rode the Army of Darkness Suzuki GSX-R600 to the Middleweight Superbike class win, finishing 3rd overall, eight laps behind the leader, and a scant 3.8 seconds behind second-place Team Velocity Racing.
Ghetto Customs riders Chris Parrish, Cale Swigger and Russell Stoddard took their Suzuki SV650 to ninth overall and the Lightweight Superbike class win, 17 laps down, while in Middleweight Supersport it was the Dalke Motorsports team of Brian Dalke, Wrenn Smith and Josh Smith-Moore taking the class win, finishing 10th overall, also 17 laps back.
The local Fastrack Riders team of Jack Pfeiffer, Larry Pointer, Darren Fulce, Jeff Hagan and Jay Tanner ran as high as second overall in the beginning of the race, fell back with an electrical problem midway through, and had worked their way back up to sixth overall and second in Heavyweight Superstock when Pfeiffer lost the front in the high-speed turn eight and crashed out during the final hour. Pfeiffer suffered an injured left shoulder and upper arm in the crash, but was otherwise fine.
