The team is running a slightly leaner operation this weekend, Robertino Pietri in Daytona Sportbike and Josh Day in Supersport. Damian Cudlin was forced to sit out this weekend after a sponsor that was supposed to fund the Cudlin side of the garage pulled out. The team continues working on finding a sponsor solution for the Cudlin side of the garage and are confident the hard-charging Australian AMA rookie will be back for Barber. After waking up to a wet racetrack, the team sent out Josh Day for a couple of exploratory laps to check out the conditions. Day ended up parking the ESP/ Venemotos R6 for most of the session, concluding that there was nothing to be gained in the tricky conditions. The first Daytona Sportbike session was a little better with a distinct dry line forming where Robertino Pietri was able to get some decent times that put him in thirteenth overall. The second Supersport session proved more productive for Day where he ended the session in third overall with a time of 1:33.9. The second Daytona Sportbike session was equally productive for Pietri where he was able to improve his time by two seconds, good enough for thirteenth overall in the highly competitive class. Robertino Pietri: “Overall the first day went well even though I just missed out on Superpole by two tenths”¦again. The first session was still a little damp off the racing line and I did a 1:33.689 which was good enough for thirteenth place. The second session I picked up over two seconds, unfortunately the rest of the field got faster also. I ended the second session in thirteenth place with a 1:31.311. Tonight the ESP/ Venemotos crew will make a few changes to the front end to get more feeling, and I’ll try and better the lap time tomorrow and find a good race setup.” Josh Day: “We decided to sit out this morning’s half wet, half dry session. It wasn’t wet enough to get a good wet setup and it wasn’t dry enough to set a good lap time. I did a lap to check out the conditions and set a blistering nine minute lap time! Luckily, the conditions were better for the afternoon session and I was able to drop my time down to a 1:33.9, good enough for third position. It was the first time I have ridden this particular R6 and we are going to make some suspension changes tonight and see if I can pick up some time tomorrow. I liked being on pole at Daytona and that is my goal for tomorrow’s qualifying.” Evan Steel: “All in all, we are pretty happy with how today went. I’m disappointed that sponsor issues have kept us from running Damian here, but I’m confident we can get him back on track at Barber. Tino just missed Superpole by two tenths and Josh was third overall in the second practice session. We’ll make some changes tonight and look to improve on our positions for tomorrow.” For Sponsorship inquiries contact Murph at Syndicate Motorsport Management, LLC: (+1) 831 464 3458 or email: [email protected] Team ESP/ Venemotos Yamaha: Evan Steel Performance is a small, personal, specialized shop located in Tucson, Arizona that deals with all aspects of motorcycle road racing.
